My wife and I were traveling threw Eugene Oregon and decided to stay the night. My wife didn't want to leave the room so we decided to order take out from Beppe & Gianni's Trattoria. Both my self and my wife have spent extensive time in Italy and know Italian quarantine very well. So we were quite interested in trying this location based on many of the reviews a the menu. This is my verdict. I ordered the LASAGNA DELLA CASA, and the Tiramisu for the desert. First the lasagna, I read the Yelp reviews on this establishment prior to ordering. For the most part the reviews were good. I read two reviews that claimed that the sauce is canned. After tasting the sauce I can guarantee that those who are claiming that the sauce is canned clearly have a pallet that is fit for judging can dog or cat food. When it comes to real cuisine they have no clue of what they are talking about. I can guarantee the sauce is hand made. Even with it being take out I can tell you that. The lasagna was very good. The sauce was outstanding, the pasta was perfectly cooked and the Italian sausage is amazing. It has a perfectly balanced flavor with a wonderful flavor of fennel, not over powering yet its presences was very enjoyable. Overall for take out I was impressed. I will definitely be returning to this location to try this dish again in a dine in experience. Now for the Tiramisu. I have eaten this dessert in Italy at some very high end restaurants. As far as the Tiramisu at Beppe & Gianni's, it is on par with the best that I have eaten in some of the best Italian restaurants in and throughout Italy. And absolute symphony of wonderfulness. Let me remind you this was a take out order, that being said I am looking forward to returning to this location for the sit down experience. When I do that, I will take photographs of the cuisine and post them. It is not fair to an establishment to take pictures of takeout. When I went into the Restaurant to pick it up, I saw the plating and it was outstanding. The takeout box just doesn't do it justice. I highly recommend this location. read more

I went here with my partner for our anniversary dinner tonight. We arrived around 6:45 after spending 10 minutes trying to park. There was an event happening at the arena so parking was sparse but luckily we were able to find some street parking around the park just south of here. We walked in and were greeted immediately and within five minutes had a table. They were super busy so I was surprised at how quickly they seated us. Our table was in a full room so it was a bit loud but we didn't mind. Our server took our orders and left us to chat. We got the bread to start, then I got the bucatini with chicken and my partner got the lasagna. We also got the ricotta cheesecake for dessert. All of the food was delicious! The bread was soft inside with a tough crust. The bucatini was perfectly cooked and balanced. The cheese did split a bit as it cooled but it wasn't too bad. The chicken was also a bit overcooked and dry, not as juicy as I was hoping. My partner's lasagna was a bit blackened on top which made him cough at first but the flavors otherwise were good. The cheesecake was delicious, with the raspberry topping being especially tasty. Our server was very nice and checked on us often. The restaurant seemed clean but a little bit dated. The bathrooms were clean, single person and gender neutral. They don't take reservations so make sure you have a backup plan if you plan to go on a Friday or weekend night. Parking is also a bit difficult if something is going on on-campus so make sure you give yourself some extra time for that as well. All in all this was a lovely night and a great way to celebrate our anniversary. It was expensive (about $100) but good for a special occasion. We will probably be back at some point! read more

I am a stickler for Italian food, so take this with a grain of salt: the food was good, almost like something you'd get in Italy, but it just tasted a little bland compared to real Italian food. However, I can completely understand the appeal of the restaurant. The ambiance was very traditional Italian, the service was great, and we had a lovely time. Pro tip: there are LONG wait times and no reservations. We got there at 4:45/4:50 in order to get seated at 5. The restaurant was full by 5:10. If you don't want to eat at 5, a 7pm is probably your next best bet. read more

I'm sad that I was a little disappointed in the experience here. It was way too hot and since the air conditioner at my mom and sister's house was out we were not about to cook in the house. I chose the puttanesca, which I thought was really quote good. The portion size was good as well. I'd wanted the pasta all' Adamo, but as I suspected the sauce was made ahead and they couldn't take out the mushrooms (makes sense, but I had to ask!). My sister had the cappella di vescovo (aka Bishop hats) and I thought it was REALLY good, even if she wasn't the biggest fan of it. Though my puttanesca was good, I would order the cappella di vescovo if I we came here again. I didn't try mom's lasagna, but she was happy with it. They also had a kids menu which I was thankful for given the menu isn't on the cheap side. My favorite part of the meal may actually have been the appetizers. The roasted garlic with cambozola was SO good. I know that people roast whole garlic heads, but I never understood what made that special (or how to do it correctly, obviously) until we had this, and it was so good. Our other appetizer was the bruschetta mista, with which we chose to have all five of the possible toppings. I love tapenade and this was no exception, but the cannellini bean topping may have been my favorite. It was delicious and made me think I need to figure out what I can do to make a some sort of appetizer from the beans. Service was just ok. The server didn't come to check on us very often. We were indoors, which was nice since it was so hot, but it was kind of dim. I think it's been mentioned before but the decor is so outdated; it's like what you might expect from an Olive Garden or something with the wallpaper and stuff. It's just kind of corny. We also weren't offered any bread to start though it seemed like maybe other tables were given complimentary--it's ok, just was weird. Maybe what was the most... odd, I guess, is that they brought a cup of dried grated parmesan, a la Kraft, and that just seemed cheap for a restaurant that's supposed to be this caliber. Parking is not the best, though there's a few along the east side of the building. Street parking and possibly in the mechanic lot to the west of the restaurant (unless my sister was just playing with fire). read more

I found Beppe & Gianni's on a few YouTube recommendations for places to try in Eugene. The location is close to the university campus. I believe there was maybe a 30 minute wait so we killed a little bit of time at the cafe across the street. The inside of the restaurant was nice, the decor was like we were in someone's house but with about 20 other tables around. I'd say it was cozy and comfortable set up for a place that was really busy. The food was great so it made for a great date night place. read more

I had heard all of the talk about this place...so wife and I decided to stop in and try this place on a trip to Eugene. It was pretty busy for a weekend -- but we were able to get a table rather quickly. Service was pleasant and the ambiance is nice..it is an older house converted to a restaurant and very quaint. I ordered the lasagna and my wife ordered the carbonara -- food came out hot and well presented. But the meal itself was not overwhelmingly. The food was just good, truly it didn't suffice my standards. However, I was quite appalled by how the utensils were touching the table with no placement of napkins under them; for the whole restaurant... it's quite unsanitary. The service was mid. My bf and I decided to try 2 appetizers and a dessert dish, with no interest of ordering an entree and our server was openly offended by it; I feel it was very unprofessional of him. I went there to celebrate my brothers birthday and was totally unimpressed with their food. It was as though I was in the middle of staring at a king with no clothes! The tomatoes in the Caprese were like cardboard. Apparently this restaurant doesn't know how to age well their tomatoes so they become ripe and juicy and tasty. The bruschetta mists was very bland and some pieces were very hard to cut. Finally the eggplant parmesan must have been frozen and tasted like cardboard! It wasn't all bad, the Piedmont wine was great and the desert was tasty. This place is overrated! Very disappointing experience in general. These people do an injustice to Italian cuisine! read more

We started with their Roasted Garlic with Cambozola which had a whole roasted garlic, melted cambozola cheese served with their bread. We then ordered an array of pasta dishes- ravioli house special, cappelli di vescovo (bishop hats), and pasta all' adamo. The food was delicious. The pastas were fresh. Definitely order some wine to pair with your lovely entrees. The trattoria does not take reservations but there was still lots of room when we arrived two hours after opening. We had not been in a while. The bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar was plentiful and delicious. The mussels and clams dish came in a very olive tasting tomato sauce. The bivalves were delicious. The spinach salad came with bacon and plenty of delicious pine nuts. The ricotta ravioli special was covered with an elegant white sauce with spring mushrooms and spring herbs. Unfortunately, all the cooked dishes were over-salty. Proper amounts of salt would still allow those who want more to add from the shakers on each table. Our table was well situated, the waiter efficient and the sound level good. A very comfortable spot. read more

We stopped in for dinner and overall had a good time! I ordered the spaghetti carbonara, and while the flavor was absolutely on point - creamy, well-seasoned, with nice pancetta bits - I personally found the portion of noodles a bit overwhelming. I would've loved fewer noodles that's for sure, and maybe a bit more richness or depth to the sauce to balance it all out. Still tasty, just slightly unbalanced for my taste. My husband had the lasagna, which he enjoyed. It was hearty and satisfying, although the tomato sauce leaned a little strong. Nothing major, just a bit overpowering in parts. The portions overall are very generous, which some may love, but I/we found it to be a little too much - especially for Italian food (pasta coma). Next time, I'll try to go for something smaller or ask if there's a lighter portion available. The service was fantastic - attentive, friendly, and welcoming from start to finish. The ambiance was a bit loud for my taste, and I do wish they offered a broader drink selection - something beyond just beer and wine would really elevate the experience. I brought my daughter here for a quick dinner off campus during a recent visit. The service was very nice and accommodating for us, especially since the place was getting busy. I ordered the lasagna and a few appetizers to try out - olive pesto (I think) and bruschetta. My daughter went for a seafood pasta with scallops. Overall, I liked the location and set up of this place and the food was more progressive than I expected for Eugene. My favorite of all the items was the olive based appetizer actually. We came here on a weekday evening. It was busy but there were still some tables available. Speaking of the tables, they are crammed in there tight. Hard to be comfortable and not be hearing everything your neighbor table is saying, let alone sitting on top of them. The server was super quick and helpful! They don't have a kids menu or kids cups so I probably wouldn't recommend for kids, although they were able to make "kids versions" of pasta dishes and had high chairs. Our kids enjoyed it. We ordered the bread (wonderful but wish it were free), caprese salad (delicious), the Caesar salad (average), and carbonara pasta. We split the carbonara between two adults and it was more than enough- very rich but good. The kids split the butter and cheese fettuccine (not on the menu, but the server said it was an option) and we had a lot left (kids filled up on bread). Overall pretty good but not sure I'd revisit. We visited on a Saturday after a UO softball game - the restaurant is easy walking distance from the field. We knew there were no reservations and were warmly greeted by many staff at the front and shown to a table right away. The restaurant is a quiet cozy house and we did not feel cramped at all but were able to see what other diners ordered which helped because portions are VERY generous. We had the bread/olive oil/vinegar appetizers and drinks - the Bellinis are very pretty! We had lasagna, mediterranean seafood pasta, bishops hats and the special. We were too full for dessert. Sadly, our server was inattentive and repeatedly left the table while we were still ordering. To top it off, they charged $17 for a toddlers portion of buttered noodles. We really enjoyed our meal tonight! It is walk in only. The restaurant is in a beautiful old house nestled into a neighborhood right by UofO. Lots of tables tucked away throughout. A bar and lots of beautiful paintings & art throughout. Our waiter was attentive and helpful. It's always a little loud since it's such close seating, but I think it's fun. It's a romantic date night spot and seems to always be filled up each time we've been. We got a special for appetizer, which closely resembled bruschetta, though I think it had another name. We also got the artisan bread with oil & vinegar to enjoy. We both then ordered the same meal, ha. It was called: BUCATINI QUATTRO FORMAGGI. A four cheese imported pasta dish that was delicious. We topped it with more Parmesan and grilled chicken. It was so tasty and we both enjoyed our meals very much. Plenty of leftovers as well. There are a few parking spots alongside the restaurant, and street parking and then you can also park down side roads and walk a short distance to the entrance, which is what we ended up having to do. Oh boy, it's hard to know where to start on Beppe and Gianni's. A block from University of Oregon, walking distance from campus in an adorable converted house, we read on a foodie website they were one of the "essential" restaurants in town, so I was sold and actually pushed my dining partner pretty hard to go here. I love an old house for charm. To start, we had no wait during the weekday and breezed right in for early dinner. The food here wasn't as expected (although I would qualify it as "fine" and we could tell it was a favorite with locals and students.) Dishes featured old style Italian platters with green beans and homemade pasta. The waitstaff was friendly and professional and they had a pretty good wine list. The biggest issue (now I'm moving around in my chair uncomfortably) is there seemed to be a sewer system issue, resulting in an unpleasant olfactory situation going on near the powder rooms. I'll be frank, it was significant. We all know that old houses have old pipes (and have seen all the cute signs reminding visitors to be considerate when flushing, etc.) but this really was a next level problem from a odor standpoint. I have absolutely no idea why people think this is a good restaurant and line up to get in. I've eaten here several times, at other peoples choosing, but last night was the straw that broke the camels back. I won't return. Party of 8 and we're seated at a Costco folding table that is completely inadequate for a large party. A BBQ or lawn party, ok, but don't throw a table cloth on a wobbly temporary table and think we don't notice. Buy a wooden table if you're such a "fine dining" restaurant. I felt like I was eating at a food cart. Chairs are horribly uncomfortable too. Service was abysmal. Party of 8, tip is guaranteed so why actually attend to them? Waiters never asked if we wanted more drinks or even offered dessert after our dinner...just lame. I ordered the halibut and it was about 1/4" thick and grilled to death and so dry and chewy I could barely get it down my throat. 42.00 wasted They do not serve cocktails in this "fine dining" establishment Waitress touted up the specialty bruschetta, which we ordered 2 of and it was not toasted at all, just sliced bread with ricotta cheese and 1/8 tsp fig jam. 4 pieces...14.00 Such a disappointment all the way around. My daughter had the salmon and I had the eggplant. We ended up sharing everything because it was all delicious! We were sooo hungry and I was super excited to eat here as the food looked really yummy. I skipped wine with dinner since we'd been wine tasting during the day but ordered all sorts of menu items. We started with their roasted garlic dish, and OMG! Obsessed! I HAVE to make this at home. It was soooo good. I recently bought my Mom a terra cotta garlic roaster and I'm sure I'm a few seconds away from a one click buy on one for myself. This dish is heaven! The cambozola was insane, melty goodness smothered atop grilled bread with spreadable roasted garlic!!! If you come here and don't order this item, you have messed up. Next I enjoyed their spinach salad, which I really liked and made me feel ever so slightly better about previously devouring my weight in cambozola. I ordered the Bishop Hats pasta dish as my entrée, I felt was very nicely done. Felt like a special choice. I love me a great home made pasta. My friend ordered the Penne Ragu, which I felt was far too basic of a choice but he seemed to enjoy it. I feel like it was something you feed a four year old who is allowed to have lamb and pork. I tried it but the red sauce was just a bit much. My brown butter sage and parm sauce was much, much more my speed. We skipped dessert although I rarely turn down a tiramisu menu item but we had a remainder birthday cake and other goodies to have and I wanted to ensure I had some room to enjoy these. I really loved the set up of the place, it reminded me of an Italian dinner in Rome minus everyone speaking English ;) but the way the space openly flowed from one area to another really made me think of some special dinners I've had in Italy. I'd highly recommend this spot. People seem to really enjoy it as the entire place was quite busy until we departed for the evening.
