I'm a new mom, and I called the emergency hotline after receiving a concerning lab result. Unfortunately, my phone automatically went on Do Not Disturb, and I accidentally missed Dr. Beretta's call. She did leave me a voicemail, but in it she stated that she didn't have access to my lab results and wouldn't be able to help me that night, advising me to call the office the next morning. What shocked me was what came after. At the end of the voicemail, it seems she thought she had hung up -- but she hadn't. I overheard her speaking rudely about me for not answering, in a very dismissive tone, despite the fact that she had already said she couldn't help me regardless. She then left the phone line open for several minutes, during which I could hear her family conversations in the background. As a patient, and especially as a new mom seeking care during such a vulnerable time, this was deeply upsetting. If a provider shows such impatience and lack of compassion in a small situation as the on-call physician, I truly worry about how she might treat patients during something as critical as labor and delivery. I would absolutely recommend avoiding her at all costs. In fact, I'm now considering changing hospitals entirely, just to make sure I don't have to encounter her when it matters most -- the birth of my child. Stay safe out there, moms. We deserve providers who are kind, caring, and compassionate -- especially when we're entrusting them with our lives and our babies. read more

I was referred to Dr. Beretta as a specialist when I had repeat standard diagnostic tests that were all negative through OneMedical. I had adverse symptoms for a gynecological issue for many months and had seen another OBGYN prior who was at a loss for how to help me. I also wanted to consult on a partial hysterectomy for other problems related to horrendous fibroids, adenomyosis, and endometriosis. Having prior experience working in top tier academic healthcare settings, my health literacy is higher than average and I'm comfortable asking complex questions about physiology, procedures, and treatment protocol. I found her to be completely arrogant, rough, and rude. She hurt me when she examined me and declared that all I had was a yeast infection. It turned out I did not have that at all as all of my other tests indicated. It wasn't until a year and three more practitioners later that I received a proper diagnosis: dermatitis caused by a drug interaction. We discussed my surgical options and she was dismissive of the questions I had. There was no way I would choose to allow someone so brash and cavalier to put their hands inside my body. Unfortunately I read the reviews here before I went to the appointment and hoped they were old and irrelevant. I would never refer a person to see this physician. If you need a specialist, try to go to Stanford instead. read more

This review is long overdue, but my negative experience has stayed with me and other women should know that they can make a different choice for a doctor. I will never forget these words and in the coldest tone of voice: "I can't speak to you when you're crying like this." That was what Dr. Beretta said to me when I called her to ask what I should do as I suffered a miscarriage, while alone at work. That's just the icing on the cake. Dr. Beretta often cancelled appointments last minute due to rushing off to deliveries (many offices do not do this, as I later learned). Her nurse was beyond unprofessional, telling me that my lab results showed I could not have children; in addition to this information being wrong (I went on to get pregnant naturally and have two healthy daughters), this is information that should be delivered by your doctor. Dr. Beretta did nothing to handle her nurse's ongoing bad behavior. The staff was rude and dismissive, which shouldn't have surprised me as they take their lead from the doctors for whom they work. Go elsewhere. Kind AND smart doctors exist. No doctor should make their patients feel like garbage. read more

I had a terrible encounter with this woman ( Sandra Beretta) and her behavior was totally questionable to be a doctor. She came into my office being very aggressive, rude with me and a technician. She made the comment that I'd better hope she's not my doctor if I come into her clinic!!Very unprofessional and questionable! Sandra Beretta is a very entitled woman who believes in bullying those who are in a lesser roll than hers. I believe that she lets her emotions cloud her judgement when being a doctor and that is a concern that any one of her patients should have when being treated by her. Overall, I feel like based on the comment she made her license should be revoked. Dr Beretta is a superb OBGYN and part of an amazing team at Medical Arts. I am not her patient, but she treated me like one of her own during my extended stay in the hospital and safely delivered my twins after convincing me to change course. My twins didn't spend a minute in the NICU and I recovered like a champ. She is professional and efficient and warm. Humorous side note--during a follow up visit after my belly had shrunk back down, Dr Beretta saw that my (c-section) scar was slightly downturned and expressed dissatisfaction with this outcome, which was truly not attributable to her stitching but rather to one twin being positioned far off center. She asked if I was having more kids so she could fix it--a true perfectionist. You really could not ask for a better OBGYN than Dr Beretta. read more

Sandra Beretta delivered my son at Mills Peninsula Hospital. I was fully dilated at ~4:15 pm, and should have started pushing then, but Dr Beretta did not arrive until 5:05 pm - that's because she had appointments at her office four miles away, and prioritized them over my delivery. Due to Medical Arts' policy (her group) there was no other doctor available at the hospital. So I was left screaming in the bath tub, not pushing, without my baby monitored for close to an hour while she finished her day at the office. When she finally arrived she hadn't read my short birth plan, was playing catch-up, and acted angry with me and the nurses! In my birth plan I had explicitly written that I didn't want to lie on my back to push - I wanted to be on all fours, or squat. Within minutes of arriving Dr. Beretta forced me to be on my back which was breathtakingly painful -- I made no more progress in my pushing after that. During this time she spoke down to me and rolled her eyes at me. My baby went into distress and I ended up with a vacuum assisted birth which has caused a nightmare of medical problems. I do not recommend her. Since you have no control over which of the group's doctors delivers your baby, I don't recommend her group either. read more

Dr Beretta is friendly, knowledgeable, doesn't rush through her exams, and takes the time to answer all questions and concerns. Ditto for her nurse. I also appreciate the fact that they do their lab work in-house rather than contracting out, as I seem to have bad luck with over-charges from medical lab billing departments. The staff in this office leave something to be desired, however. On more than one occasion, the person answering the phones acted as though dealing with people was a huge burden. They seem to have a habit of hiring office workers who can't resolve simple questions or issues, have poor customer service skills, and just fail at follow-up. When my prescription refills maxed out, the receptionist said "well, she (my Gynecologist) won't authorize more refills because you haven't been in for two years." She completely missed her opportunity to not irk me and to drum up more business for them, because her correct statement should have been something like "I see it's been awhile since your last appointment -- what day would be good for you to come in?" Now that I think about it, I had to call them to find out why my pharmacy hadn't heard from them for several days. read more

I've been going to Dr. Beretta for probably 12 years now. After searching for the perfect gynecologist and finally finding her, I wasn't going to switch for anything. Even when I had lousy insurance and she wasn't in my network, I still went to her and I paid for the visit out of my pocket! She makes my visit as comfortable as one can make it for what we have to go through... legs up, scooch down, a little further, a little further please... I never feel rushed and she always takes time to ask about my health and make sure all my questions are answered before she disappears for one more year. Lacks one star only because on occasion I've waited 20-45 minutes for my scheduled appointment and the staff could be much more friendly. read more

I have lived all around the country and never gone to any but female GYN. She is the best, quick, efficient. She takes time to listen and answers completely. A wonderful doctor. Dr. Beretta recently delivered my first child - and we had some complications but the Dr. was a rock star the whole time and really came through for us whatever we needed. She continuously communicated all our options and probabilities with each turn of fate and let us make the best decisions for our family. I felt like she and the staff at her practice completely had my back the whole time and supported all our decisions. She really helped me get through this particularly difficult time and I was able to stay calm and feel centered because of it. She has a very calming influence, and I already was confident in her skills. A lot of people (my extended family included) might have described my birth experience as "bad" or "risky" had they been me b/c the baby was late and I'd had preeclampsia, and wound up in the hospital a long time before finally having a C-section, but I never felt negative about it. I felt calm and relaxed thanks to the good doctor's advice. I knew I was in stellar hands. The best things I did during that time was follow Dr. Beretta's advice and guidance. read more

I am going to be as frank as possible with this review. I really generally dislike the healthcare industry. I hate going to appts, hate the way the office smells and most of the time the way many doctors have become so whatever about visits basically making it seem that they are doing you a favor by seeing you. However it is something you need to do yearly. I am really not a person to review doctors and doctor offices because hello it is your health however my experience with this particular doctor was so demoralizing, I felt the need to say something. I would have given her one star but the office staff was good. Now in these days of Russian roulette with what you get with OBGYN, GP's, dentist ect...it has become progressively harder to find good ones that you can trust. I do not know what is going on with the healthcare industry but you know what - it is an industry and one that we pay a crap load of money to. Huge ass insurance premiums or to paying out of pocket for their "services". Since moving here I have been playing musical chairs with doctor offices trying to find a decent one. I thought based on the reviews perhaps the tides were changing. I was like maybe just maybe this office would not move you through like cattle through a slaughterhouse. Now.... I don't know if Dr. Beretta was having a crappy day when I came for my afternoon appt and for that I am sorry but you know what I was there for a service - a service that is regarding my health not some random oil change at a Jiffy Lube. She might be great at delivery babies but she really needs to work on her bed side manner in the office. Dr. Beretta was RUDE, dismissive, did not listen, not comforting, made me feel stupid did not ask anything about my past health and I was literally in the office for 7.5 minutes before she "diagnosed" was wrong with me {without any past details of my health} and was ready to recommend me on medication I do not want to take. She basically did what most doctors due they place a band aid on what they think is wrong with you comparing you to other women. Last time I checked we are all different and maybe what works for woman A does not work for woman B. I left defeated and I left the office more confused than when I walked in. I also do not appreciate being told by someone I just met who barely knows me no too put all my eggs in one basket when I did not quite jump on her band aid bandwagon. Now if Dr. Beretta would have explained things a bit less condescending and would have been a bit more compassionate this review would not be happening. I do not leave many negative reviews but this one is well deserved. Listen you need to make sure the Dr. is a fit with you and is your partner with your health. Doctors offices are just like restaurants if you do not like what it had to offer and their services you do not go back. I am truly disappointed I had high hopes. read more

I have been going to Dr. Beretta for over 14 years. She is one of the most knowledgeable, caring and professional physicians. In fact, all the physicians in the practice are high caliber and the best in their field. I can say this as I encountered a serious medical problem six years ago. Dr. Berretta immediately directed me to the best possible care and protocol and above all, she monitored my care. I don't know what I would have done without her both emotionally and physically. I am still under her care and know whatever recommendation she gives will be the best. I do follow her instructions and trust her competency and experience. One realizes an excellent physician and practice when one has medical problems. In short, Dr. Beretta and her team are the most competent and caring physicians in this specialty in our area. Update! I had a baby! Dr Beretta and staff were extraordinary every step of the way. I met all the doctors, love the receptionists (especially Christine, but they're all wonderful), took a childbirth class at Peninsula with Lauren the nurse who was awesome, and when it was time to have a baby, Dr Verosko was on call and was so amazing. Dr Beretta came by to see me after the baby was born and was so warm, caring, and sweet. You couldn't ask for a better OB/GYN practice. read more

I have been going to Dr. Beretta for more than 12 years and have been very happy. she is very caring and compassionate at the same time extremely professional. I do not undrestand why some people gave her one star??? for not being able to get in??? it dose not mean that she is not a good doctor it just mean she is super busy and in demand!!!!! I'm 36 weeks pregnant and came in to 2nd floor at Mills peninsula because I was leaking clear fluids doctor on call was very very rude (Dr. Beretta) she said it was normal and that a test on swab that she didn't even do came out negative for amniotic fluid. I asked if I can have a ultrasound to see if fluid was ok she said no because it's the weekend and she didn't have time and she was super busy with people who really needed her and she felt that I was good, keep in mind they failed to deatect a UTI I had two weeks ago and was having contractions the whole time I was there. I told her I understand but as a mother of already two I didn't think it was normal and I would feel better if I could atleast see if the baby had enough amniotic fluid or even a vaginal exam just to be on the safe side. She said nope all she did was feel my belly for literally 3 seconds and told me it was normal to call Monday to request an ultrasound from my ob because she will not issue me one and she needed to go attend real emergency's and left the room. I hope I don't see her again and praying she is not on call when I deliver my baby, I will literally leave and give birth at a different hospital. I'm even considering looking for a new ob and hospital to deliver after this incident. I left labor and delivery without any answers, I'm still leaking fluids read more

17 years later and it's interesting to read that, the same things I experienced with the birth of my baby, others have experienced recently. Dr. Beretta had come recommended, and been really nice during the pregnancy appointments, though I only got to see her a couple of times; the practice wants you to see all of the ob/gyns at some point during your pregnancy, so that you are familiar with whomever delivers you. At any rate, Dr. Beretta was very late to the the birth (kept seeing appointments at her office until the very last minute, then ran in to deliver my child at the 11th hour), was very brusque to me while I was in labor, and didn't follow up with me later. I should add that the very experienced delivery nurse was very unhappy that she was so late---at one point remarking "I can deliver the baby myself if necessary, but it would be nice if she made an appearance!" Also, since, without her authorization, I could not receive the epidural, we very nearly missed the window. The anesthesiologist was a rock star in getting the needle in between the less than 2-minutes apart contractions. Funny how you remember these things so long after the fact---you think maybe it could have been a more positive experience? Also, importantly, I had been forthright during our appointments that I was fearful of the possibility of PPD, given family history. Lo and behold, I did experience it, and when I called Dr. Beretta's office to let her know and ask for an appointment to discuss (ie, get a referral for help), she could not get off the phone fast enough. (Literally, "I don't have training for that, and you should go see someone. Good luck." And hung up on me.) This happened just after the 8-week checkup appointment where I was left in a room and forgotten by both Dr. Beretta and her staff; staff went to lunch and Dr. Beretta went to the hospital to attend a birth, while nobody checked on me in the room. Having had very little sleep, what with a newborn, I fell asleep on the table in the room while waiting for the doctor to appear, and woke up 45 minutes or so later, wondering what the hell had happened. Peeking my head out the door to find out when she was going to see me, I found everyone gone but a staff member who was eating her lunch, and no sign of the doctor. I believe I left without being seen, but am not sure. It's possible I ended up waiting another hour to be seen, and then that was the end of it. I don't think I ever went back to her office. At any rate, it's very sad to see that others have had a similar experience, even recently. The person who had recommended Dr. Beretta's office to me left the practice after her second baby; had a similar experience. read more

I'm 22 and I've never been to an OB-GYN. I was really nervous and called for an appointment at 955 am on August 4, 2010. The receptionist who answered the phone was so rude. She was asking me something about my insurance and since I never use my insurance card because I'm a healthy 22 yr old I was a little slow and she was annoyed and talked so condescendingly to me. I was so intimidated that I just said, nevermind and i hung up. Maybe Dr. Beretta is a great doctor but man, that receptionist needs to be a little less intimidating specially for first time patients. Barking receptionist. Very bad first impression. read more

Dr. Beretta came highly recommended to me from several friends and colleagues which is why I selected her as my obgyn. Having had her as my doctor for the past 5 years, I can see why she came so highly recommended. Dr. Beretta has since delivered all three of my babies, which included 2 high risk pregnancies (first of which was a twin pregnancy), and I knew that I was in good hands throughout each of the pregnancies. She is kind and caring, confident and experienced, organized and patient. Just the kind of doctor I needed to put me at ease and help navigate through two tough pregnancies and post partum challenges.. Throughout my two pregnancies, I also saw Dr. Yu, Dr. Verosko, and Dr. Burke, each of whom I would also highly recommend. Dr. Yu is so calm, caring, and thorough. Dr. Verosko is a ball of energy with a great way of sharing facts and perspectives and always asking about the patient, and Dr. Burke has such a nurturing and calming way about her. I appreciated each of them for their unique personalities and approaches and for how they, along with Dr. Beretta as my primary OBGYN, helped get me through my pregancies. The nursing staff at Medical Arts OBGYN is also phenomenal. I have always appreciated Lois, the triage nurse, who is so knowledgeable and experienced and is always available to promptly answer questions and provide assistance whenever necessary. Additionally, Laurel is amazing - always remembering my name and is a gifted instructor for the birthing classes offered by this practice. The other nurses are also sweet and friendly . Again, I'd highly recommend Dr. Beretta and the Medical Arts OBGYN practice in general! read more
