My mother broke her femur in a fall at her assisted living facility. The doctors and surgical team were awesome, but she was abruptly informed of her discharge shortly after the operation. I left to get her clothes, but when I returned, she was on the stretcher in her hospital gown with her rear end exposed, which was disrespectful to her. The discharging physician also prescribed TYLENOL for pain relief for her still technically broken femur that had just undergone an intense surgery. This drugstore medication seemed inappropriate and raised concerns about staff training and awareness of levels of necessary care. Bergan Hospital has positive qualities, but some staff definitely need better training to ensure proper patient care and dignity.

Life-prolonging treatments were stopped and my father was placed on comfort-only care without a documented decision-making capacity evaluation, without documentation of his expressed wishes, and without an ethics consult, despite clear family disagreement. Critical decisions were made based solely on direction from his spouse (POA), even though no physician had formally documented that my father was incompetent to participate in his own care. At no point was there a structured attempt to ensure that this decision aligned with my father's wishes at the time, nor was there a neutral ethics review to guide the team through an extremely complex and emotionally charged situation. Instead, sedation was increased, antibiotics and fluids were stopped, and the course toward death was allowed to proceed without adequate procedural safeguards. This experience left our family feeling that the process prioritized expediency and avoidance of conflict over ethical diligence, transparency, and patient autonomy. Regardless of outcome, families deserve confidence that every appropriate step was taken to ensure decisions are made with, not merely for, the patient. I hope this facility reviews its end-of-life protocols to ensure that future families are not left questioning whether proper ethical standards were followed at the most critical moment of their loved one's life.

I think I've spent 4months or so total time admitted to the place. Maybe more. 99% of the time I get spectacular service and treatment from amazing doctors. Have only had 1 absolute terrible experience with the ultra sound department. That catastrophe alone is why I took a star away. Several cafes, gift shops, cafeterias, and little bodega-type shops are around the entire hospital. Free valet parking. Amazing people. Beautiful artwork and one beyond-awesome garden area full of blown glass art. Going to the hospital to see that area is worth a trip, even if you don't 'need' to be in the hospital. I live in South Sioux City, NE; two hours away. And I have incredibly easy access to health care in my town and Sioux City, IA. But, I come down to Omaha for my major health needs. That's how good this place is. I'm thankful for the doctors here that literally have saved my life. More than once.

On Friday night my daughter went to the ER via ambulance in extreme pain 7 days after her gall…read morebladder had been removed. She got more compassion from the ambulance people. At ER they took bloodwork then put her in the waiting atea where we were with her in a wheelchair writhing in pain. After 2 hours with nurses coming in and out basically ignoring her and talking with other nurses and receptionists I begged someone to take her back and get seen. They did and got her a CT scan as well as a urine sample. The doctor said everything was normal. We had told them about her recent surgery prior to this. We insisted on an ultrasound which the doctor basically denied stating that they couldn't do it over the weekend because no one was available. I googled and this wasn't a true statement. They could have done one if among other symptoms severe stomach pain and swelling which she had. Pain meds they gave her did nothing. Needless to say they discharged her after now 4 hours of her being in obvious extreme pain. Saturday we called the on call due to her of excruciating pain. He asked if Lakeside ER did an ultrasound which we replied no. He sent her to Methodist ER. Her bloodwork showed high elevated white bl count indicating a severe infection. The ultrasound was painful but it showed that something was off and admitted her immediately. They also did a CT scan. b Both her ultrasound and even the CT scan showed liquid buildup from her gallbladder surgery which causes severe pain. So they finally got her pain under control and antibiotics in her. They found liquid and are treating her. I cannot believe the indifference Lakeside ER medical staff showed my daughter and her severe pain she obviously was in saying everything was normal when it wasn't meaning her bloodwork. How could medical professionals be so cold and just ignore such obvious symptoms. The white blood count didn't magically appear in just a few hours later nor the other abnormal signs even in a CT scan which meant this was a very bad indicator of something being wrong when it was found at Methodist ER. The ultrasound sho more but even so. I am shocked at this treatment and coldness from the staff. I wished the ambulance took her to Methodist in the first place to get her proper care especially her pain under control. Such callousness of Lakeside staff is inexcusable. Horrible people who are supposed to be not only compassionate but competent as well.

The staff was incredibly professional, warm, and genuinely funny. We even shared a few laughs about my skating mishap (because hey, if you can't laugh at yourself while getting X-rays, when can you?). I got triaged, X-rayed, casted, and sent on my way with a smile--and a very stylish hard cast. The quality of care was top-notch--thorough, efficient, and delivered with kindness and humor. Every single person I encountered made me feel seen, heard, and well taken care of. I've never had such a smooth, friendly ER experience. Seriously impressed. The nursing staff on the recovery floor were eager to help us learn how to take care of our first baby, as we are pretty much clueless! And, and many people noted to us, the food was very good. The only recommendation I would have is for some more proactive accommodations for the dads/support people who stay with the new mom and baby. Totally get that the mom and baby are the patients, but little things like having two towels in the bathroom instead of one, would go a long way in making their extended stay easier too.

The doctor I saw was extremely rude and passive aggressive saying things like "You should feel lucky I let you stay there" to my boyfriend who was in the room with me. I had informed her I have a hard time with needles and she proceeded to pierce into my hand for the test causing it to be in immense pain. It still hurts and I feel she may have pierced into the wrong spot in my hand. Then at the end of it all she tells me that she mainly works as a headache specialist and does "this stuff" (nerve work) on the side. The only plus side from my visit was the people at the front desk were very pleasant and kind to everyone but other than that the rest of my visit to the neurological institute of this hospital was a mess.
