I reached out to Bergen County Swingsets and multiple other companies last week when I wanted to purchase a swingset for my kids. Unfortunately due to the Corona virus visiting locations was not a viable option. Harry was very informative and knowledgeable about the products and offerings in the industry. He took the time to look at the other units I was initially interested in and he explained their pros and cons, not just the cons. In the end I really liked the Woodplay Outback 6 in redwood for my kids (Ages 3.5 and 1.5). He tried to talk me out of spending the extra money for the monkey bars now but I really want them when the kids get substantially older and want to make sure that I had the matching items. On Saturday we spoke for 90 minutes about the general product and my vision for the playset On Sunday we spoke for 50 minutes with follow up questions and ensuring I understood everything. On Monday I called in the morning and told Harry that we wanted to order. On Thursday morning his installer called me and was on the way. By 2:30pm the playset was up and we were ready to play. In the end I could not be happier. I ended up with a playset that I can see my kids enjoying into adolescence and the quality that will make that possible. This was a huge purchase for our family as we wanted a swing set that would outlast our 4 boys and be there forever. I called a few companies including Bergen County Swing Sets for estimates. Harry spent a ton of time (multiple days/many hours) with us on site at my house and in his store selecting the area and the perfect swing set for us and our kids. We originally wanted the set in one place in our yard - he stayed and tried to figure out how a set could have worked in that area. His main point was it had to be safe - We ultimately moved it to another site in the yard. Point being - never hasty, spent all the time we needed with him - he never looked anxious to leave or aggravated that we used so much of his time. He never up-sold anything - in fact it was quite the opposite - He was incredible. The install came ahead of schedule. The two guys that did the install were so nice and professional. They all - both the guys and Harry - were incredibly focused on the safety of the set. Believe me they would not install the set if there was any issue of safety . They worked wonderfully and even tolerated my kids being in their way a little bit because they were so excited. The "Wood works" set we chose is as sturdy as can be. My whole family is enjoying the set - even the adults- that is how sturdy it is. We don't have a ton of bells and whistles - one of the things Harry kept telling me is to get the bones of the set first then add onto it as time goes on. Again, never up-selling me on anything. The nature of wood is such that it rots in 5-6 years in the sun/rain/cold. Sooner or later you will need a piece replaced and this is where the problem is with this business. The owner of Bergen Swing Sets is the kind of sly salesman that will promise you the moon and the stars just to get you to buy a swing set but will cheat you out of your money on the warranty when it comes time for that simply because he can. We have had a terrible time trying to replace a few rotten pieces for several months now, horrendous. No luck. Beware, don't trust this guy, go someplace else. read more

In the end, I should have bought a cheaper one at half the price and bought 2 that would have lasted longer. I am very happy with the swingset purchased, but the service was terrible. I was ignored in the store while the owner b.s'd with another customer (not talked about swingsets, that would be fine, but literally talked about a sports game while I waited). Also, I never could get a definite answer on when the installers were going to come. I had to call 5 times, after the two weeks, instead of the store calling me with a delivery date. I kept getting put off and told how busy he was, how many people wanted it to be installed. I'm sure they did, and I was one of those people. I was told call back in a few days, they'll have the schedule. Then I was told to call back again, and again. The installers did come, and the set is great, but I will never purchase from here again. This guy is a liar and a nasty person to deal with. He makes promises, then doesn't keep them. He charges a lot of money for his crew's services and then claims he is not making money off any of it. No one works for free. He keeps saying he will send his crew and doesn't follow up. I stupidly paid him in full and he still hasn't finished what he promised. He yelled at me so I had my husband deal with him the next time, then he yelled at him and my husband told him to go away and we will find someone else to deal with. Stopped payment on the check. Should have followed my gut instincts when I walked in there and Mr. Huff was telling me about all the other swing set places going out of business, how he gives his customers his cell #, blah blah blah. Total joe salesman. Needless to say swing set was installed totally uneven and when I called to ask they level it out, instead of being helpful he threatened to come "yank it out of my yard" for me daring to complain. Long story short, I stopped payment immediately on my check, and after waiting one long month later with a dangerous uneven swing set in my yard, it took one of his installers all of 20 minutes to come and fix and do the job right. Was all his demeaning threatening necessary? My advice to anyone walking in that show room is buyer beware. Had I paid in full up front I would be left with an uneven swing set. Thank heavens I did not and only left a deposit and had time to stop payment. Finally, his disrespect towards me as a woman and mom was uncalled for. Pure bully. I work full-time and am very busy. My plan was to buy a swing set the day I visited Bergen County Swing Sets since I made the time to go there. The owner was rude and does not understand the concept of customer service. He insisted upon showing me pictures of low-end swing sets and "problem swing sets" to "educate" me about what not to buy. I simply wanted to buy one within my price range, as long as the quality was good, but he wouldn't give me any prices or lead me in the right direction. We live in Westchester but called this company because they were a vendor of Playnation and we wanted to see a swing set in person before ordering. We called to confirm they had them on display and get directions. Drove all the way out there in nasty traffic to Upper Saddle River only to discover they only had models from 2 other companies on display and they were cut down to fit under low ceiling. After being ignored for the better part of an hour Barry tried to help us but it was his first day in this store and only knew another brand that was almost identical to one they were showing but didn't know Playnation. After we finally got to talk to the owner and our daughter was getting restless we ordered a Horizon Playnation set we saw on the web through them out of desperation and frustration sight unseen. As we were writing it up, Harry, the owner gave me a whole story about crossing the bridge and how it would cost another $100 for delivery even though he just told me its just coming from his warehouse in a pick-up and he sold others in an adjacent town not to mention he asked me if they could take Tappanzee vs GWB and I said we lived equidistant from both. Then Barry was totaling up the invoice and our daughter was restless so ran out of there in a hurry and didn't notice until I got home that he added $100 to the price and another $100 for the extra delivery fee. When I called to complain it was an argument back and forth and took multiple calls and giving them our credit card # several times before they agreed to put the refund in. Then we started calling a few days after the truck he said we were on was supposed to leave NC to see if he had it in his possession and we would schedule delivery. We kept getting excuses it was on its way but Harry made a big deal of distinguishing if we buy from him versus web site the truck goes directly to his warehouse and not knocked around as much so no excuse 4 days later. At that point I asked him to cancel and refund my money. He was upset that I wanted to use Amex but my instinct was correct. He then called back and asked if I wanted it installed in 2 days. All of a sudden, he has it and an opening in the calendar? We said no thank you and that we still wanted to cancel and get a refund. I immediately logged a claim with Amex after providing him our credit card information yet again. So far we have waited weeks with no refund other than the $100 duplicate charge and, of course, no swing set either. Today is exactly 1 month since we paid him in full to ensure on time delivery/installation and "to make the next truck". Harry won't even respond to Amex's inquires. Ultimately, Amex has my back but at this point I have to assume the delay and nonresponse is just for spite to make me wait 8 weeks for resolution. Please take your business ANYWHERE but Bergen County Swing sets or any of the other names Harry does business under! Heed this cautionary tale. I wish we had seen truthful reviews before we drove out there to see him. read more
