Our fence was very old and desperately needed replacement. A contractor friend who does pretty good work had used this fence company so we called and got an estimate. Friendly, professional salesman met with us, gave us some tips and we put down the deposit. From what I understand the company we hired made the fence but a contracted company did the installation. There were a few issues with the sales sketch which the installer worked around but otherwise they seemed fine. At my first glance it looked ok- (anything was better than the old fence!) but when my husband came home he looked at it from across the street then walked around the fence and he noticed several sections of fence were unstable, the the longer lines of the fence were not straight or even, many random pickets were visibly crooked and the gate opened the wrong way. The salesman came back to review and said he would send back the contractor to correct. They fixed the issues and they flipped the gate but the latch is now upside down. read more

I am very disappointed with this entire company, from the office staff who handles the accounts to the owner. They are highly Unprofessional, Rude, Unempathetic, and Bullies. The company made a mistake on THEIR part, and now that they have realized it, they are blowing up my phone and strong-arming me to correct their mistake. They do not act in good faith; contrary, these people think they have the right to place demands and threats as they see fit. I came in to get some materials and I spoke with a young lady Donna She seems to be preoccupied and didn't really know what she was doing. Also, she was dressed inappropriately she had a short shirt on showing belly and tight pants I'm sure she couldn't breathe in them she was a bit flirtatious, and it didn't feel right. We needed a fence replaced. We waited 2-3 weeks for an appointment. The inspector came on time. It took my husband about 3 weeks to agree on what kind of fencing we wanted after that. We informed the inspector, but he never got back to us with the a quote. It has been 4 weeks since I provided him with the information. I have contacted their office 3 times now and they are very nice, they confirm my information and then proceed to "remind" the inspector - who never gets back to me. read more

For each project, Bergen Fence installed a high-quality product, comfortably within the promised timeframe. I am now working with Bergen Fence on a large fence project for my new house. In my experience, Bergen Fence has always been respectful, communicative, and fair. Having solicited multiple quotes, their prices seem competitive. They have always made a point of meeting with me at the outset to understand my needs and goals for the project, and then recommending the ideal solution (even if it was less costly). On the day of install, they have made sure that the fence was being installed in accordance with my expectations by asking for my input on anything that came up. John came by to do our estimate on 6/10 & we were warned about the 5-7 week delay. Luck was on our side, as the permit was approved quickly & materials were in. Our fence was installed by 6/28. Trucks rolled in around 9am & finished by 4:30pm. Everyone on the job was great & John stopped by midday to check in on the progress. Very happy with our privacy fence & the picket on the side fence. DO NOT EVER work with this company. They would get zero stars if I had the option. 5 years ago we had a deck and privacy fencing installed. Close to $20,000 we spent. Now our deck boards are completely faded, and the deck has pieces coming off everywhere, including the side of the stairs. After multiple phone calls to them we finally got someone tp come out and see the issues since the deck is under warranty still. He wrote everything down and left. No answer after that. So again with multiple phone calls to them and NOW they tell us they're not going to help us because they no longer do decks. The manufacturer of the deck wants to work with us but they don't. All we need is an itemized bill for all of the deck parts and they won't give it to us. Consulting an attorney now. Scandalous company. read more

I would give this company no stars at all and rest assure I would never use them again. 5 years ago we put in a wood fence. The fence is 5 years old and looks terrible. Shortly after we had this fence put in, squirrels started to chew on this fence like it was candy. Meanwhile my neighbor had a fence put in with Bergen Fence as well and there is no damage. When I called Bergen Fence back then in the beginning, they assured me that that doesn't usually happened but came and sprayed the fence with some stuff. Since that time, all the post caps (or whatever they are called at the top of the posts) look horribly chewed up and the lattice work looks like it is being held together by thumbtacks. We just had someone from Bergen Fence come out today to take another look and basically they are doing nothing to remedy this because as he says they don't warranty wood fences. So I paid $1200 for a fence that is assume to last 20 years but at 5 years old it already looks 20 years old. I would never use Bergen Fence again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

We had obtained quotes to install a fence on our property. Bergen fence provided a quote but made no mention that they would be sub contracting the work. Regardless, another company showed up and completed the installation. Unfortunately our sprinkler system was not on during Covid so we did not know that during installation they had done damage to our sprinkler line until a year and a month after it was done. Once we realized the damage was done due to the fence installation I immediately called Bergen to remediate/compensate for the repair. The service team was extremely rude. Instead of taking accountability they just kept asking how we were watering our lawn. Very rude and unprofessional. I've attempted to call and email several times to get this escalated for remediation and I have received no responses. I would suggest staying far away from this company as they do not concern themselves with customer satisfaction. read more

We just used Bergen Fence to install a fence this past weekend. The sales guy Andrew did a great job answering questions and working around our schedule. They were reasonably priced and worked around our budget to make it work. We had two small sections installed connecting our home to our neighbors fence and then replaced a 50 foot section that ran along the back property line. The quote was finalized on Wednesday or Thursday and the fence was just installed on Monday. We asked to have it installed by a certain time and they took that into consideration to get it done right way. The installers were friendly and fast. They explained everything and cleaned up when they left. There are really no complaints on this job. The fence comes with a 20 year warranty and the workmanship comes with a 1 year warranty. Used Bergen Fence to install a fence and they forgot to install the steel connectors so the fence fell apart after the warranty was over.

The fence they installed was full of scratches and dents. The fence panels were delivered inside of their truck directly on top of gravel which scratched & dented fence panels, gates, poles. I called and complained & the guy came to look and agreed that there was damage & promised to come back and replace all of the damaged panels. He never called us back or fixed any of the damage. They didn't return our calls when we called, we were lied to. read more

Sales person was Anthony and that went okay. I expected good things. But Hector, the manager brought two young boys under 20 years of age and did not stay with them for more than 10 minutes before he left them. They had to complete the whole job on their own. Hector never returned to look in on them and neither did Anthony the sales person who had promised to come by to see how it was going. The boys did not tell me they broke the PVC pipe near the fence they were installing. I saw it as soon as I went into backyard. They called Hector on their cell phone and put me on with him while they were still here. Hector said he himself worked in that area and they did not break it and neither did he. I realized when I got off the phone that Hector never came back. I was home the whole day. I asked the men to have Hector come back and they said he can't today because he is on another job. I asked if he could come at 3 pm and they said it was impossible again repeating that he is on another job. Yet he was supposed to be supervising this job. Before the work began he told me he needs an outlet and a hose. I showed him both and told him it is very important to shut the lever of the hose when he is finished because the hose floods when left on. He looked at me like how can you even ask. Of course I know that. But the next day the area was flooded. Hector not only did not shut the lever, he did not tell his boys to do it either. When I complained to the salesman Anthony, he wrote that the boss, Peter Rotolo will call me. But he never did. When nothing was being fixed and I did not want Hector back here for I could not trust a man who lied to me and denied that they broke it. I get the message from the lack of response that the boss and the company do not care. No one in that company cares. Hire them at your own risk. The only responsiveness I got was to collect the balance. They seem to care about getting paid but the professionalism and carefulness is totally absent. I texted Anthony that I was worried before the hurricane about the pvc pipe being broken. He did not respond and no one called or told me anything. No one notified me that it was done and I had my wonderful roofer, Andy of All Quality Roofing, who I recommend to the sky as a wonderful person and roofer. Andy from all quality came to fix it and we when he got here, found it was already fixed. But no one from Bergen Fence told me even after I said I was going to call my roofer. Why couldn't someone just text me to assure me, to respond to whether I should call the roofer. The only thing about which I was contacted was the final payment. The lack of communication, professionalism, and care is most disturbing. The materials they used seem to be high quality and I think I will be happy once I use the yard. But I do not recommend this company because of how I was treated as a customer. Anthony wrote that Peter the owner will call me. But he never did. I wrote to Anthony that the gate does not open. I sent a video of it. He said to show it to who comes but no one came except Anthony a week later to get the rest of the payment. When I told them I want it fixed re the final payment Anthony wrote that we are trying to accommodate you. He seems to believe that doing a job the right way is an accommodation; I was not asking for anything special. They did damage and mistakes and I wanted it corrected. What a bunch of incompetent clowns! On June 20 they made an appointment to come to my house for a fence estimate. They sent a confirmation email. They sent a second confirmation email on June 29 to remind me! Finally, July 1 is here, and 1:00 pm is appointment time. It's 1:30 and no one has shown up, so I call the company. They mistakenly had me scheduled for July 17! Hmmm...I received no confirmation emails regarding July 17. Ms. Scheduler told me she'd be happy to reschedule me...on August 5! Isn't that nice that they would put me at the end of the list? When I inquired about this grave injustice, Ms. Scheduler informed me she would indeed put me at the end of the appointment list and give me no consideration for their scheduling blunder. The owners must be very proud of their staff...they can't handle Google Calendar or some other program that a 4-year-old monkey could handle. read more

This company gets 1 star from me and some of you might think it's a little harsh but when the owner of the company screams like a 4 year old saying "I'll see you in court" that's the reason they are getting 1 star. They put in my fence and did a very nice job but forgot to tell me that because my property line isn't a multiple of 8 that I would have two significantly smaller sections of fencing. They said that the only way to avoid this would be to cut all the sections equally but would cost about $500 more. Had I been given the option I would have totally paid the additional fee but it wasn't even offered to me or offered to fix at a reasonable rate. To fix the problem would have cost 1000. I was willing to split the difference with them since that would have been the additional fee from the beginning. But instead I got a screaming owner yelling at me and telling me I'm being ridiculous for even asking for it to be done right. I think that when you run a company you shouldn't act like that and you should own up to your companies mistakes, address it and take care of it. If you want to use this company go ahead but make sure you hold their hand while they do it and don't leave the house. Good luck read more

A few yrs ago had Bergen Fence install a gorilla deck. The brown deck is fading to white, the plastic screw covers don t stay on and some were missing at job completion. Notified Bergen a couple of times and they never came back to finish the job. I even tokd them to leave the pieces in my mailbox and I would fix it myself. The stair runners are now separating from the decking. They did a lousy install job. probably because they installed during cold winter months and snow on ground. Their choice to install I would have preferred Spring but was told they couldn't install then because busy season. I paid $17000.00 for this decking. i would prefer to give Bergen Fence a neg 10 if system allowed it. I am now contacting manufacturer for assistance and I am sure there is no warranty. i would not recommend doing business with them. read more

I had an appointment for an estimate three weeks ago, and the sales guy Eric came to measure the property. Told the sales guy Eric that we wanted an estimate and needed to make a decision as our fence was falling apart. He said no prob, will get you one within 3 days. Spent time talking to us. We even expressed frustration that another company also failed to give us an estimate. Now, three weeks later and no less than 6 calls later, I STILL never got an estimate. What a waste of time it was to rush home from work to get an estimate. For some reason they just can't follow through? Don't need the money? I don't understand. Isn't this capitalism?!?!? I call and the secretary says "oh you are pending in the system - do you want to commit to a contract?" I am like "how about a friggin estimate what the heck am I agreeing to??" Still no call back. awful company, period. estimated a repair for me end of 2017, aprx. $425 for a top rail for a single section of metal fencing - then winter. i returned the contract and payment in february, 2018 - after i presumed, the last snow of the year. bergen fence shows up at my property late march, 2018 - apologizes for the month delay!, but says they increased their prices in january - 2018, by $100 (now aprx. $525)... since i made payment in february, 2018 - bergen fence says they wouldn't honor their original estimate of aprx. $425!!! putting aside their rip-off prices, my story clearly illustrates bergen fence's chintzy approach to doing business. steer clear. read more

I needed the gate on my fence replaced as it had been destroyed in a storm last winter. Everything was fine when they came to give me the quote except I didn't read the contract carefully which I suggest you do. The lead time was longer than I thought- 3-5 weeks. They also didn't tell me the gas company was going to flag my yard so I spent an afternoon calling PSEG to find out what the flags were for.. the fence guys said they were just following the law which I wasn't arguing with I just wish they had said something. They had to get supervisor approval to do work when I wasn't home since I work full time. After they installed the gate I had mis-matched caps, no key, and about an 8 inch area around the hole they dug for one of the posts in my driveway with torn up asphalt. They have fixed the caps and are giving me a key. They said they don't repair asphalt - it looks a mess and I will just have to fix it myself. The office wasn't all that easy to contact- the person I needed only makes customer calls from 3-4 in the afternoon. Overall it was a very mixed experience - I think the quality of materials seem good but in the end I wasn't completely happy. read more

We contracted with BF to do part one of a two part fence project. Sales was easy. Received several calls to update the plans based on town ordinances. Install was anything but smooth. Crew installed fence where it should not have been, dug holes in new sod where there should not have been, new fence was 18-24" inside of old fence line in parts meaning a sprinkler head was now on the wrong side , fencing did not match what was drawn out in the contract. The crew did the job in one day, so when we came home from work, it was done. I held back some money, but apparently not enough. Called Andrew the sales person and he came by to inspect. Gave lots of excuses. No resolution. It was not quality work. They are apparently too big to care. My advice to you if you use them: take the day off and watch every single thing they are doing and don't be afraid to hold back all the money - no matter how agitated the crew gets at the end if you are not happy or not sure you are happy. Needless to say, they will not be getting the contract for part 2. You would think spending almost $10,000 on a fence would get you quality work but not with this company. read more

The salesman, A., did a good presentation so I signed up on the spot though his estimate was much higher than another company's estimate. The installers worked very quickly and the team continued while the foreman left them alone for awhile. They eventually found out they didn't have all the parts needed to finish the job that day and had to come back which they did in a timely manner. I noticed a triangular gap in the back fence near a post and called A. a couple of months after the job was done. He came to inspect, agreed it should be fixed. The foreman and a helper showed up unexpectedly, luckily I was home. They did a reasonably good job in making the gap smaller. When I texted A. that I was less than thrilled that they used a subcontractor, he told me not to text him anymore but to call the main office with complaints. I called the main office with an unrelated question. The receptionist told me she would have P., the owner call me. When P. hadn't called a week later I called again. The woman who answered suggested that I speak with A. I told her that A. wanted me to call the main office. P. has not contacted me to date. I admit that my comment about their use of subcontractors was irrelevant but stunned at the response it elicited. I feel I was labeled a complainer though others I'd shown a photo of the gap to agreed they wouldn't want to live with it. I felt it was unprofessional of P. to not have returned my call. If I had this to do over I'd get another estimate from a company with good internet ratings. This was done on the recommendation of one friend. read more
