We came here for breakfast while at work. The service was friendly . But the seating was really cramped. We ordered Bloody Marys with our meals. All of us agreed that the drinks were very light. And our meals were very small. We felt like this place was a ripoff. We were charged a 20 gratuity fee and still had an option to tip more. We ended getting a sandwich down the street because we were still hungry. The food was good but definitely not worth the price tag for a child's size portion. If you are hungry don't come here. Beautiful dish presentation, good service, and aesthetic interior decor. As many other reviews said, the food was good but was definitely $$ and not really anything special. I think BSC goes for a similar vibe as Pleasant Hill's The Hangout or as SF's Kurisan, but just sorta misses the mark. With that being said, it's definitely one of the better restaurants in Berkeley. The ambiance at Berkeley Social Club is undeniably good. It's got ample lighting, a large dining room, and enough chatter in the background to engage your senses. When it comes to food, their offerings are basic breakfast food at premium prices. The most serious critique we have is probably their Ahi Benedict. When we think of Ahi, we think of Ahi poke with raw tuna, salad, and light soy-based dressing. Instead of preparing it in the traditional way, their Ahi is marinated in spicy Korean pepper sauce and then seared. It's disappointing to prepare Ahi tuna this way and it was incredibly nasty. Another critique that we have is with them running out of the Dutch pancake in the middle of the day. Dutch pancake is made with the same ingredients as ordinary pancake, just prepared in a cast iron pan. Since we saw the servers serve ordinary pancakes to other tables around us, we guess they just ran out of cast iron pans to prepare it Dutch style. This was disappointing and should not happen at a restaurant of this caliber. Due to average quality food, overprice menu, and difficulty with parking, I will only recommend this restaurant if you are in need of something artisanal. **Updated 12/8/22 in response to owner's comment I have no problem with whichever way you prepare the Ahi. However, you need to provide full disclosure to the customer on the menu on how it's prepared. The menu clearly states that the Ahi Benedict uses "Ahi Poke." When you sear the tuna and rub it with Gochujang, that is no longer poke style and incredibly misleading for customers. Please use clearer language on the menu. read more

I also ordered the Millionaire's BLT, which is great, but take note that it's really spicy. My partner ate the bulgogi, and she says it was satisfying but wishes that the ingredients had listed out the vegetables used because she didn't prefer mushroom. Went with a group of 8 friends and weee seated quickly after arriving (we did make a reservation, but it was not needed on a Monday night) Over all the food was good, but nothing really stood out. We ordered the chicken wings as an appetizer and they were good but the sauce was only on some of the wings leaving the others completely dry. Also had the margarita flight that comes with 4 different flavored margaritas, this took very long to come out after ordering (after the others at our table had gotten their drinks and we had gotten some of our food). Made a reservation to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant was packed so I had a good feeling. The ambiance was rustic but inviting and clean. Seating was spaced out nicely so we didnt feel crammed. We arrived and the hostess found a spot for us to be seated pretty quickly. Once seated we looked over the menu and found so many great choices. I love the Korean Fusion inspired dishes. For drinks we ordered the Dirty Ube Latte and 2 Millionaire Bloody Mary. All drinks were great. The Millionaire Bloody Mary was a just the perfect amount of spicy and the candied bacon..so good. One of the girls got the Pimped out Ramyun. I got the Bulgogi Benedict. I forgot what the birthday girl got but it looked good and she ate most of it so I'm thinking it was good. We had a large group of 18 people come in for dinner this week. Reservation was easy and they had the table ready for us when we arrived. Loved the cocktail menu, though drinks were a little slow to come out and the waiters had no idea who ordered what. It was bit chaotic getting drinks and plates to the right person with a group this large. Nonetheless, the drinks were still tasty. The food hits! Everybody loved their food, including tasting half the appetizer menu. I personally had the takoyaki, poke, and tofu dolsot. The takoyaki was some of the best I've had in the states, the poke noodles were nice and spicy, and I'm now wanting another dolsot this week. Loved the crunchy rice bits at the bottom! By far my favorite thing to get here for brunch is the Dutch pancake. They're made to order, and come out fluffy on the inside and crispy on the edges. It comes with a cream cheese sauce AND a yuzu cream sauce-- both complement the dish so well. Note that the fruit was added on for an extra charge-- I think it really elevates the pancake to another level, so I recommend it. This is normally a busy spot for brunch, but I came here for dinner and had a nice time. We came during happy hour (5-6 PM) and the appetizers were cheaper so we ordered the appetizer sampler. I didn't try any of the drinks but the tables around us ordered some and they all looked very pretty. The appetizers sampler came with Tako Balls, two types of Korean Fried Chicken, Shrimp Sticks, Fried Oysters, and some picked cucumbers and radishes. I particularly loved the Tako Balls and Korean Fried Chicken. The portion was also very generous given the price. The bulgogi was also very good, but I wish it came with rice. The environment is very upbeat for brunch and a nice place to hang out with friends. The staff is also very friendly and accomodating. The food was a bit pricer, but when you see the portion sizes, you can definitely see why. I got the avocado salad thinking it would be small, but I ended up eating it for the next two meals haha. I'm not sure I would be a regular here, just because there are other places I would prefer. However, I highly recommend trying it at least once. My friend and I found street parking near the corner close to the restaurant. We got seated right away but they do have the option to add your name to the waitlist on a tablet once you enter. Another location let's check the box!!! I've set myself on a wild goose chase to try all of Steven Chois dining experiences, and i present the third location... Berkeley social club! I'm a big fan of the atmosphere of this place, with a full bar. Food is unmatchable at his restaurants. We ordered the appetizer sampler, short rib salad, Bulgogi nachos, G. I. Fried rice, and the Bsc pot! My favorite has to be the BSC pot which is the pork belly marinated over night. The pork belly was so tender when you cut it, it's almost as if it's fish. The rice is sweet and salty with a nice crunch from the bottom of the pan. The appetizer flight had the perfect variety of their specialties and I loved the KFC chicken. Juicy, aromatic, and crunchy! The shrimp sticks are amazing as well. If you need to get your greens in get the salad!!! Salads taste fresh and the dressing is to die for. My friend said she gets an itchy throat when veggies are organic and the salad did just that for her. They have a great variety of drinks, and also offer happy hour from 5-6pm. I haven't been here in a couple of years, but I decided to come back and try it again after COVID. It is a Korean-American fusion restaurant, typically known as a brunch spot for fellow Berkeley students. Usually their potatoes are the things that stand out to me, but upon this visit they were actually slightly underdone. They are also usually pretty big (not conveniently bite-sized) which makes it even harder to chew through if they're underdone. I'd actually gravitate towards their sweeter breakfast/brunch items if you were to come here. So you can take that into consideration as you're deciding whether or not to stop by! ..... Trendy brunch spot in the heart of downtown Berkeley. This place has a unique spin on brunch food with its little touches of Korean flavor here and there. We only got to try one of the korean inspired dishes, however all of them sounded great. This place does attract a lot of college students, so it can get pretty packed and loud on your typical brunch weekends. They do have outdoor seating in the back, so don't be afraid when you see all the indoor seating taken up. The Eggs in Purgatory with Toast was the favorite of all the dishes we had. It had so much flavor packed into it, so I highly recommend this dish. The vegetarian scramble was also very good too. With a touch of hot sauce, it was great. We also got the KFC and waffles (not pictured). It was juicy and the syrup had a sourness to it. Caught us off guard, but it still tasted pretty good. Only downside, the seats were so close next to one other. I Could literally hear our neighbors whole conversation.
