I was craving some brunch so decided to come to the Berkeley Social Club. They have a very diverse Korean-Western fusion menu and will have something for everyone. We especially enjoyed the salmon benedict and the bulgogi bowl. Service was great. We came on a Monday at 11:30 and were seated with no wait. The restaurant is spacious and clean.

Really cool vibes at this place. The servers were very friendly and happy! It's a Korean inspired fusion place - so many dishes to try! We only tried 3 of them - loved them all! The tamarindo was phenomenal!! Can't wait to come back and try more food :) We tried the gooey corn, BSC Bao and K tacos. We asked for some extra spicy sauce and they have that to us - YUM!

I came here for a brunch date on a saturday, and I totally understand it being busy given the time we came, but it was extraordinarily loud in the restaurant; I had to shout to the person sitting across from me to speak. I noticed it's a spot where groups like to come & dine, it's not the place if you're trying to eat a nice meal. The food itself was below average. The BSC Scramble could have used more egg, the potatoes weren't seasoned. The french toast also lacked flavor, I added some jam to help lift the flavor of the dish. The Korean KFC was the worst dish, and we regret ordering it. The chicken itself was dry, stringy, and unseasoned. It was over fried and dried out the inside, the honey mustard mayo was needed to made it edible. I will not be returning.

My second time here. My daughter & I enjoyed ourselves. A treat for me from her for Mom's Weekend This time I got: - 2 Eggs , Millionaire Bacon which comes with potatoes & white toast (I swapped the white toast for English muffin) My daughter got: - Spicy Pork Bowl - Dirty Ube Latte (dirty means espresso added) Pros: - I always like the vibe of this place, just happy staff & customers in a beautiful place with good food. - the staff are very attentive - food presentation & flavor is great Cons: - parking is tough - the restaurant is noisy , so not a pick on an anxious day

My GF and I stopped in unexpected as we were meeting friends at a nearby hookah lounge. I wanted to try something new in an area I don't come to often that was close to our destination. I am glad I took a chance on this place because the whole experience was great. I called a couple hours before and was able to reserve a table for 2. Being unfamiliar with the area I didn't anticipate parking being hard to find, but after circling the block once, we found a spot. We were greeted warmly by staff and quickly seated. The decor was nice; great ambiance; large bar with a lot of tv's (perfect for watching the last game of the NBA finals, as the Knicks won). We both ordered the raspberry lemonade. I have been a huge fan of fresh handmade lemonade lately and it did not disappoint. Fresh, tart and sweet. A little too tart for my GF's taste, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Appetizers were the Millionaire's Bacon and Cheesy Gyoza. The bacon was soooo good. 2 perfectly cooked pieces of thick cut bacon with its sweet, sticky coating that was well balanced and not too sweet. Cheese and Gyoza with bell pepper is a combination I didn't know I needed. It was a pairing that was full of flavor and left us saying "OMG, WHAT THE". Great start for the meal. The Club Moco was calling my name, and I'm glad I answered back. Every element of the dish was cooked perfectly. The gravy was full of flavor and made the dish. Everything together was so complimentary and made every bite so enjoyable. My GF ordered the G.I. Fried Rice. The table side presentation was really cool as it came plated on a cast iron plate and the egg that's usually scrambled and mixed in the rice, was poured around the plated rice allowing you to scramble and mix however you like. I only had a couple bites and can say that I would be happy to order that dish as my main course next time. The mix of the rice, more candied bacon, spam and kimchi was full of flavor. I have never heard of this restaurant and am thankful to Yelp for helping me to look up places so easily where I was visiting. The only thing that surprised me is that I thought that place should have been packed. Service was great, ambiance was great, food was great and the NBA finals was on. I imaging this would be a great place to watch World Cup matches. Highly recommended! Go check it out!

Parking is a little tricky but we were able to find a spot right away! We went on a Sunday so it was really busy around 12-1pm. We put ourselves on the waitlist and the wait was about 30-40mins. I've gotten the Ube latte, and it was pretty yummy but I could barely taste the ube. We waited about 25mins for our food to come out but it was fresh and hot when we've gotten it. It was super yummy! I liked my scrambled bulgogi. It came with potatoes and a slice of toast. Overall I finished my plate! We ordered: Side of Mixed fruits Bulgogi scrambled Tornado Bulgogi Omurice Dirty Ube Latte Hot chocolate (not pictured) The place was really pretty but by the host stand it was very tight. Better to wait outside for your table!

I've been to BSC a couple of times during undergrad, but this was my first visit in a while after coming back to Berkeley! Before going, I would definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. There's usually a line (especially on weekends for brunch or in the evenings), but thankfully I was seated quickly while my friend looked for parking nearby. Now, this isn't the restaurant's fault, but it was LOUD. We happened to be seated next to two very social groups, so it was a bit difficult to hear anything. Which duh, we're in a social club! But I was practically yelling just to talk to my friend lol. Depending on your tolerance, you might want to ask to be seated on the patio, since it can get pretty rowdy inside. As for the food, it was fine. I had been craving BSC's Mascarpone Blueberry Stuffed Crunch French Toast after years of deprivation, while my friend ordered a burger with a side of fries. I'm not sure what changed (or maybe it's just me), but the French toast was much greasier than I remembered (with even less fruit!) Every bite felt pretty heavy, and while I was excited to eat it, I only managed to finish half before tapping out. My friend, on the other hand, finished her plate so maybe a burger was the way to go. I did manage to steal a fry though, which was amazing, so I'd highly recommend that. But I probably wouldn't order the French toast again. All in all, the service was great! The ambiance was a bit loud, and the food was okay. BSC is definitely a must-try brunch spot if you're in Berkeley, but if I go again, I'd probably opt for a different dish from their expansive menu.

Came here for brunch with friends- our party ordered the salmon Benedict, fried chicken, and pumped up ramyun. The salmon Benedict was good though the ramyun was quite salty (as is expected with shin ramen I suppose). Service was courteous. My only complaint was the food took a really long time to come out. Hope to try more dishes here in the future!

    Eggs in Purgatory with Toast
    Katherine D.

Stopped in for a Monday brunch. I tried the eggs in purgatory and their famous bacon. The tomato-based stew was delicious. I wish it came with more than one slice of bread. The candied bacon was also great. The restaurant was pretty loud that day, which made it hard to talk. My dish also took noticeably longer to come out than the restaurant of my table. Otherwise, it was a great meal.

My boyfriend and I walked in with no reservation on a Sunday morning and were able to get seated in just under 7 minutes at the bar. Service was a little slow for us especially when asking for the bill but it was a busy morning and we were seated at the bar so I understand. The place itself is well-decorated and super cozy I absolutely love the vibe in there. There are lots of TVs playing sports. I ordered the BLT Millionaire's which was quite literally the best sandwich I've ever had. I dream about this sandwich. Everything was perfect, down to the runny egg yolk and juicy bacon. It was absolutely perfect and 100% worth it, if this sandwich interests you please order it you will be happy with your choice. My boyfriend got the KFC waffles. He said the waffle was okay and kinda bland, either that or had no flavor or was dry I forget. But he noted that the chicken was good and made up for the waffle. His order came with a spicy syrup which neither of us were big fans of but our waitress happily brought us regular sweet syrup! The fruits that came with his waffle were also all sweet and fresh. Overall a great experience and I would love to go back for that sandwich!

Famous for their brunch here, but their dinner is not bad as well appropriate for nice dinners with extended family, atmosphere is pretty and well decorated. I like the pillows on the benches on the side. super creative menu in my opinion fun and colorful and definitely pleasing to the eye with good presentation. The actual quality and taste of the food does not match the concept of the food conceptually but I think is OK for a solid 8 out of 10 experience. bottomless mimosas is also fun (can do at brunch OR dinner!)

Food was good! My friends overall liked their meals. The bulgogi was so yum. The salmon toast was good! Got some drinks as well. My friend said the lychee drink was too sweet. I got the dirty coconut latte and it was really good but it's so pricy for what it is. Overall, I'd come back for the food! Minus a star for service... wasn't the best but they were nice

What gluten-free breakfast or brunch options are enticing?

You think they would let me order breakfast at dinner?

I'm not sure but as they have different menus for brunch and dinner, I wouldn't think so.

Do they require proof of vaccination?

No, but they do ask you to wear your mask until you start eating.

Is bottomless mimosas enjoyable on the weekends with the 60 minute time limit or does it feel too rushed?

Definitely. An hour is generally plenty of time, unless you're looking to drink the restaurant out of business :-)

Is the outdoor patio open on the weekdays for dinner?

There are no outdoor sitting at this restaurant.

Does it allow Dogs at the outside patio?

Sure does. Brought my pooch out there last week...

Do they have bottomless mimosas on the weekends?

Yes they do! But they do enforce a pretty strict 1 hour time window for bottomless mimosas

What Gluten-free options do they have?

Rice bowls with gluten-free sauce upon request, gim-bap, salads, and more

Are dogs allowed on the outside patio?

Yes! Totally dog friendly in the back patio. Tied our pitbull to the bench seating with us. They even brought her a bowl of water.

    No outdoor TV

Are there dairy and or gluten free brunch options?

    Yes, but limited!

Anyone know what seasoning they use for their eggs and crispy yukon?

    Are walk ins accepted?

Yes! There are only walk-ins on weekends, and both walk-ins/reservations on the weekdays. If you do a walk-in on the weekend though for brunch, it can sometimes be a bit of a wait (~30+ min depending on how big your party is)

    Do they have vegan options?

    Yes!

Anyone know if it's better to go around 10-11am or 12-1pm for brunch? How long is the wait time usually on a Sunday?

It's usually around a 30-40 minute wait around then! :) I would go around 10AM or even earlier to miss the crazy Sunday brunch line.

What other liquor besides beer do you serve? Are there mimosas at brunch on Fridays?

They have a wide variety of cocktails that they serve for dinner including Moscow mules, whisky sours, and margs

Do they serve bottomless mimosas for dinner?

Yes, I just checked. They have bottomless mimosas at dinner for $20 per person for 1.5 hours. Hope this helped!

I was violently craving seolleongtang and did some research to find a spot in Oakland. The menu is pretty big with a lot of enticing options--I love bossam and blood sausage--but because I had tunnel vision, I stuck with the soup. The broth itself was good, and they had salt and pepper on the table so you could season it to your liking. Unfortunately, the noodles were way too soft and almost mushy, and the meat was extremely tough and hard to chew. I couldn't finish it. If seolleongtang is one of your favorite dishes, I'd probably skip it here. My husband got the kimchi fried rice, which was huge and great for sharing between 2-4 people. Based on the portion size, I do think it could use an extra egg, more Spam and some nori on top. It leaned more oily and buttery than other versions I've had, but it was still good--just nothing too special. The vibe and service were solid, so I'd come back to try other dishes and update my rating accordingly.

Sometimes you just need a big, comforting bowl of chewy noodles covered in rich black bean sauce, and this spot absolutely delivers. Their jajangmyeon is done just right. The sauce is savory, hearty, and satisfying without feeling too heavy, and the noodles have that perfect chewy texture that makes the whole dish so comforting. The portion size is also massive, so you could definitely share one order between two people--although I completely understand wanting one all to yourself. I also tried their fried chicken, which was decent, but it wasn't the standout for me. It was fine as a side, but compared to the noodles, it didn't feel like something I'd go out of my way to order again. Next time, I'd probably skip the chicken and focus on what they're clearly known for: their noodle dishes. Overall, this is a great spot when you're craving classic, satisfying Korean comfort food. I'd definitely come back for the jajangmyeon and would recommend it to anyone looking for a generous, flavorful bowl of noodles.

It only took roughly 15-20 minutes for the order to arrive and it came hot and fresh. Starting with the ja-jang myeon, it's so satisfying being able to mix in the sauce with the noodles. The black bean sauce is both salty, savory with a hint of sweetness coming through. The texture is thick and perfect which hugs the noodles with every bite. It also has a good balance of the veggies in the sauce as well. It is definitely very filling! The spicy rice cakes were soaked in a sweet and spicy sauce, with sautéed cabbage and peas. The flavors were really addicting and kept me coming back for more. The rice cakes were both delicate and chewy. Eating this dish alongside the pickled radish and onion cut through the richness of the dish. Lastly, I tried the yuja ade and was pleasantly surprised! I will say that it is very sweet, if you do prefer it to be sweeter instead of tart. At the bottom of the cup are these yummy almost candy-like yuja slices that practically melted with each sip. I'm so glad I decided to try it! Overall, the portion sizes are pretty big for the value! I was able to stretch the food across a few meals. I will definitely be eating here again!

It was an ideal place to take a group because 1) it was fast casual 2) everyone can put in their individual orders without the awk who's-going-to-put-their-card-in issue 3) there were 2 restaurants (Chimmelier + Oh G Burger) in 1 so more options! What I got: 8 pc sweet gochujang wings (sauce was called YANG'YUM') and a side of tots with a cup for water **the wings were from Chimmelier and the tots were from Oh G Burger We were able to combine two tables together to fit our group of 5 and the cashier brought our food over in quick succession. The tots were my fav even tho the wings were supposed to be the star of the show. I liked how they gave me PLENTY of disposable gloves because the sauce is v sticky. Gochujang is a savory, sweet Korean chili paste, but I would say it was more sweet than spicy. I enjoyed my meal but maybe would wanna try a dry rub because putting on gloves every time can be a chore. I went for a yelp elite perk once and grabbed their chicken sando which was tasty.

We ended up having to pay the higher price because they said the menu just wasn't reflecting the latest prices. Fine, whatever. We both ordered chicken sandwiches and they were tasty. Also got fries for sides and some of them came out cold but we didn't think too much about it and we left feeling like we would return. However, on our second trip back - we once again ordered chicken sandwiches and also shrimp toast as an appetizer. One bite into the shrimp toast and the piece was very COLD...It wasn't fully cooked so we flagged it to them. They were very apologetic and happy to take it back to warm it up. But damn! PSA to diners here to check your food to make sure it's properly cooked here. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...well, I'm not sure I'll come back.

This was my experience with pretty much every dish I ordered on a recent trip to Yu Yu Za Zang. I'll admit this is one of those places I've walked or driven past for years and have always meant to try but just never got around to it. But I finally had an opportunity to drag my cousin/regular dining buddy with me. We ordered Yang Jang Pi (also known as Double Skin in some places), regular jajang (spelled zazang here) myun, and tang sue yuk (beef - which is the traditional Korean meat for this dish). My cousin and I are huuuuuge fans of the Double Skin at Great China in Berkeley, so the Double Skin here had a pretty high bar to reach. We were pleasantly surprised to find it more than held its own. The portions of everything were very generous, and the mustard dressing was nice and spicy. Perhaps the veggies were not quite as crunchy as Great China's, so not as much of a variety of textures, but this Yang Jang Pi was still delicious, and I still think about it days after our visit. The jajang (zazang) myun was also very generously portioned and pretty tasty. I haven't had any in Oakland in a while, so hard to say how it compares, but I would definitely eat it again. The beef tang sue yuk was incredible. Again, large portion, perfectly crispy outside, tender beef inside, and one of the best sweet and sour sauces I've ever had with this dish. The vibe is simple and clean; nothing fancy, but I went for the food, so I was fine with that. The service was also friendly and fast. There were barely any people there on a Saturday evening, which made me sad, because the food really is good. I can't wait to try the rest of their menu. They also have soju and beer. Although Hanshin Pocha next door is popular, I could see Yu Yu Za Zang being a decent spot for delicious, very reasonably priced food that one can share with friends while having a couple of rounds of drinks. And in this economy, aren't we all looking for a good deal?
