The hash browns were packed with flavor. They weren't the crispiest, but the fine shred meant the seasoning coated every bite. The corned beef was incredibly moist, and the brioche toast with cinnamon butter was easily the star of the meal. The outdoor patio made for a really relaxing brunch. The tables were spaced far enough apart that we could enjoy our conversation without feeling like we were part of the next table's. The jazz music playing in the background added a nice touch without being so loud that we had to talk over it. Came here with with my friend for a late brunch after coming back from Bay to Breakers via the Emeryville Park and Ride shuttle and this was a short walk away and just what we wanted after running 9 miles! I ordered the Home Fries Heaven, and as someone who likes potatoes, specifically fried potatoes, this was indeed heaven. It's basically a scramble but with thin sliced home fries. Never seen that anywhere else so had to try it! My friend and I also split the blue corn pancakes. Probably should have gotten the traditional conventional pancakes (I always like to order something sweet for the table to share) but hey at least we tried it and it was different, just not what we were looking for in the moment. The Doyle St., Café. It's in the industrial area of Emeryville. On a busy Sunday at brunch time you'll have to park about a block away. The area is safe and it's a little hidden. The prices here are high. The selection of foods is ample, and includes delicious sandwiches and hamburgers . On the weekend this place gets very hectic. It's not uncommon to have to put your name on the waitlist and hang out out front for 10 to 20 minutes. The waiters here are decent but appear to be covering a lot of tables so they are a bit hurried. Last time I went here I waited quite a long time for a refill on my iced tea. Can't say that I was blown away by my brunch at Doyle Street because... I just wasn't. Nothing about this meal stood out above the rest. I found a spot in the residential neighborhood nearby and walked down to the entrance. They have a patio parklet in front that seems to be pretty popular with the crowd. I came solo on this day but still had a short wait for a table. Inside is open and airy with lots of tables that are within close proximity of each other. The place was booming on a Saturday morning. When my table was ready, I was sat and given a menu. Prices seem on the higher side for a local brunch, but what isn't high priced these days?! I opted for the California eggs benedict (crab cake benedict) and a chai latte. The food took a while to arrive but I just shucked it up to it being a busy Saturday. The crab cake benedict was decent. The English muffin was nice and fluffy and the crab cake tasted fine, but they didn't put much hollandaise sauce on top, so it ended up tasting a tad bit dry. The eggs weren't over poached, but they weren't yolky when I cut into them. It was somewhere between poached and over poached if that makes sense. The chai latte was pretty good but I was missing those spices. Some people prefer a weaker chai tea, so maybe that's the reason for the lack of chai spice. It was still good for a milder blend. After I finished, it took forever for my server to come back to my table. Even after I asked for the check, it took a while for him to bring it back. I'd say, bring your patience. I'm guessing they're used to folks lingering here for a while. In any event, it wasn't a bad experience but it also wasn't anything memorable. Our orders were taken in a very timely manner. Food and drinks were brought out with that same manner. I had a hot chocolate with oat milk and she had a latte. Both were so good. No complaints at all All the food was hot and exactly how we wanted it to be. I am very very very picky about everything I eat and I want my food exactly how I ask for it. In particular, I wanted my bacon crispy and not burnt, per usual. Well... they did not disappoint. Delicious bacon, tasty cheesy eggs and fluffy pancakes to die for. My latest brunch at Doyle Street Cafe left me with a pretty bad experience. My friends and I sat stopped by around 9:00 a.m. and there was plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. News to me, but if you're driving, the gated lot across the street is actually Doyle Street Cafe's dedicated parking lot. However, it's not a big lot -- fitting twenty or so cars, so not everyone dining in the restaurant will have parking there. Within two minutes of sitting down and receiving the menu, our waiter stopped by to take our order. I get speedy service is good, but please allow your guests to have some time to greet their friends, process the menu, and decide their orders. I also specifically, really disliked the bearded male server that was assigned to our table. This individual gave us the nastiest look when taking our order. If you're having a bad day, please call in and request the day off! In the food and beverage world, right alongside with the hospitality industry, would it kill you to be kind to your guests? Throughout our meal, our sever never stopped by to check on us, never topped off my empty coffee, and when the check arrived, he made aggressive eye contact the whole time while holding the credit card device, effectively guilt tripping you to tip with one of the high defaults. The value here is also quite terrible. If you order French toast, a few cut up strawberries and blueberries are a $6 add-on and two eggs are $7. I get eggs are expensive but $7 is absolutely pushing it. After tax and tip, for our party of four, our meal came out to around $90. In my opinion, that's far too expensive for four coffees (three of which were espresso drinks), two entrees - which were split between the couple, and a side of eggs and crab cakes. I left hungry after our meal and wasn't planning on spending any more money at this establishment. This awful experience makes Doyle Street Cafe a strong skip in my book for American style brunch. I recommend taking your business elsewhere, as there are plenty of other restaurants in Emeryville -- and nearby in Berkeley and Oakland, that offer far better brunch experiences. read more

TLDR: low-key racist. I went here on 6/10/26 with two of my teacher coworkers. At first, it was just me and one colleague, an African American woman, and the manager took our drink order. A few minutes later, another colleague, an African American man, joined us. The waitress then came out and took the order of a table that had been seated after us. We kindly let her know we were ready to order, and she said okay; then proceeded to help not one, not two, but THREE other tables (all white customers) before coming back to us. By the time she finally returned, we had been seated for 45 minutes and had already finished our drinks. We asked for the check and left, heading down the street to Rudy's, where we were treated with dignity and respect. The whole situation felt terribly awkward, and it was hard to ignore the low-key racism.
