    The Charlie (with side salad)
    Audrey I.

Came here on a whim with my friend to catch up! 900 Grayson is truly a hidden gem, though perhaps not so hidden, given its feature on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Regardless, this spot feels underrated, and for a brunch place to sport no wait times while serving excellent food is a rare commodity in the Bay. I ordered The Charlie, their take on an ahi sandwich. Lately, I've been on a tuna kick, and this was the paragon of excellence. The tuna developed a beautifully crusty exterior while maintaining a bright red hue inside. It also featured the quintessential Bay Area Acme bun which I believe is the pinnacle of great bread. Honestly, this was probably one of the best tuna sandwiches I've ever had. And, the side salad that came with it, another standout, with its brilliant yellow beets that I insisted my friend try. I could wax poetic about these beets all day long, so sweet and incredibly fresh. I thought I'd regret skipping the fries, but the salad was just too good that I didn't miss them, a rare occurrence for me. My friend ordered The Demon Lover, their whimsical take on chicken and waffles. Unfortunately, this was pedestrian. The tenders were only a slight step up from Dairy Queen's frozen tenders, and the particularly skinny waffle wasn't anything noteworthy. We were in and out in pretty much an hour, though I did wish that we had more time to catch up. Toward the end, the waitstaff started eyeing our table which made us feel a bit rushed. Still, the food is reasonably priced and delicious, so I guess I can't complain much (especially with zero wait times). For sure will return !

It's a really good place for breakfast and quick mea-up with friends. I got there about 8:30, but by 9 it started to fill up. I got the demon lover, which was amazing with both gravy and syrup. The waffle wasn't like the big crispy kind, but I liked this soft and flavorful. Food came out pretty fast. Service was fast but the servers I got were not very pleasant. My server seemed to just want to talk to frequent patrons. He never checked back in after the gave me the check. I had to give my check to the other one who seemed really dry. Def taking it to go next time.

Let me tell you about my 1st time experience here, when you first walk in, the entrance is definitely an eye catcher, everything in the front makes you want to touch and see everything, which I thought was pretty cool! The food was was DELISH! I ordered the Steak and Eggs, (Medium-Well and Over-Easy) both was perfected to MY liking! They were both very delicious, but what caught my attention was the IN-HOUSE made Plum-Jam, can you bottle up some if this and send me home with some of this GREATNESS !?! The service is AMAZING here, the staff is great and the Owners Chris and his brother (sorry brother didn't catch your name) both WONDERFUL owners! They both made my 1st time experience an unforgettable one! If you're in the area and want to grab a bite, this is definitely a spot I recommend stopping at 10/10

The food and service was great! My friend and I both had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was super juicy and we really liked their gravy. The only issue we had was the lack of street parking. If you go during peak hours, be prepared to drive around the block multiple times!

I was very satisfied with my breakfast, the coffee strong the way it should be and the waiter was awesome very attentive with fast service.

Another Diners Drive Inns and dive joint under my belt. I'm so glad I had an opportunity to eat at 900 Grayson. This small unassuming restaurant has a great old school appeal. Its tasteful homey interior and interesting decorations are warm and welcoming. The atmosphere is very comforting and so was the menu. A simple selection of interesting creations done very well. I was impressed with the service and how personable our sever was. He was as cool as the ambiance. If you have one chance to visit a triple D joint in Berkeley make it 900 Grayson.

I recently visited 900 Grayson for weekday breakfast, which is offered until 11 am. It's a cute spot in Berkeley with both indoor seating and an outdoor patio. Because we came on a Tuesday morning around 10:30, it wasn't crowded at all and we had a lot of options for seating. We opted for the patio as it was a lovely day out. My friend ordered the popular Demon Lover ($16), which is their signature fried chicken and waffles dish. I took a couple bites and thought it was solid. The gravy was quite rich though; I was surprised to learn it's a vegetarian (onion-based) gravy. For myself, I got the the Tom Boy ($16), which comes with poached eggs, potato, apple and parsnip corned beef hash, and white toast. Unfortunately, I found it to be a bit disappointing as it felt like separate pieces combined together rather than a cohesive dish. It was still good but just not what I was expecting. I ate the toast with their home made mixed berry jam and that was delicious. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at 900 Grayson. I'm glad we came on a weekday so there was no wait.

Simple and sweet brunch. Friend recommended this place and we decided to give it a try. Plenty of street parking nearby. A lot of people seem to enjoy their fried chicken & waffles, and the gravy really elevates the whole thing. I opted for their tofu scramble which still had a nice spice & flavor to it as a lighter option. I also ordered a soju mojito which kicked off my day. It was balanced and boozy just the way I like it. The prices were very reasonable for brunch and not breaking the wallet, something I enjoy when I attempt to imagine I could make it at home. A small menu, but a mighty one. The inside is very homey and cozy with some outdoor seating. Service was fast and attentive the whole time.

While visiting, our friends encouraged us to plan to have breakfast at 900 Grayson, a unique breakfast & lunch restaurant located at 900 Grayson in Berkeley! While they are famous for their Demon Lovers breakfast: fried chicken with waffles! We decided to attempt to have the lighter, Potter Creek: scrambled eggs with gouda cheese, hash browns and delicious toast! The service is impressive with our coffee being refilled before we had a chance to ask! Although it was a cold and rainy day, customers kept coming in and at 9 am, their intimate dining area was packed! They also have two very cool cool coin operated kid friendly old fashioned mechanical toys on the wall. For $.25 cents you can watch a chef prepare eggs or maybe pizza or get your fortune! We will definitely return on our next visit!

Cute interior with funny names! Came here on a Tuesday morning and it was very ambient! We were sitted next to a window which was a fun experience-- though not much activity going on outside. The workers were very kind and sweet and got us sorted up with water and our older relatively fast. There were a bunch of flies so watch out! Other than that, we got the: Potter Creek: Delicious, loved the herbs and the bread-- though the hashbrowns were crunchy and crackly The Not Belgian Waffle: I loved the butter on top and the strawberries which provided some tart. Fun experience for $32 including tip! Will be back.

One of my favorite berkeley brunch spots! Service good be a bit better but I would die on the hill that this is the best chicken and waffles!! Do yourself a favor and order the demon lover.

I came here on a Saturday morning ~9 AM with my friend for brunch! Outside, there were some street parking spots available. We were seated inside and did not have to wait. There were also some outdoor seating options as well. The inside is feels cozy and homey. The server was friendly and welcoming. I ordered the demon lover with the maple syrup and gravy. The gravy was delicious and creamy. Honestly, gravy is my favorite part of any meal and the chicken was a vehicle for the gravy lol. The chicken was moist but a bit bland. The waffle was tasty with the chicken. They also offered some homemade hot sauces for the chicken and those were also good. Overall, I think this place is a West Berkeley gem. I would come back to try other things on their menu.

My favorite Berkeley breakfast spot. Delicious food made in house. Hearty breakfasts always served hot. Fresh strong coffee. Your cup will seldom be empty. Fast friendly service that will make this your to go breakfast spot.

For our drinks, I had the Moonlight Blossom, my aunt had a glass of red wine, and my mom had a cucumber mint spritzer (mocktail as she was the DD). The moonlight blossom tasted similar to cherry limeade. The entrees we had were the mussels, veggie burger, and the chef's market pizza. The mussels themselves were tasty and appreciated that they were able to leave out the chorizo. However, I wish that they brought a spoon and there was more broth. I tried some of my mom's veggie burger and the red color from the beets made it stand out from the usual veggie burger. The fries tasted homemade. I had a slice of the pizza and while I like the ingredients themselves, the combination just didn't do it for me. The crust was good though! We also shared a green goddess salad, which was tasty. The desserts looked amazing but we had no room! Service was friendly and our waitress made good recommendations. Can park on the side streets or the garage. Restaurant was not noisy. Wood Tavern met the criteria for a relatively nice American restaurant in North Oakland. We visited for lunch and wanted to make this special for our mom, so we were perhaps a bit overdressed in business casual, but this is Oakland after all. On an ordinary Thursday, there were multiple groups waiting outside for the restaurant to open at 11:30 AM. That in itself should tell you how popular this place is. My wife and I dined at sister restaurant Southie next door a few years ago and really enjoyed it (I also rated it five stars on Yelp), so I was confident Wood Tavern would not disappoint. I initially booked our reservation using OpenTable to link it to my account and get 100 points. Since the max party size for Wood Tavern on OpenTable is four, I had to call to get it changed to eight. Due to the large party size, the restaurant also required me to give them my credit card info and be subject to a $25 per person no-show fee. Upon arrival, our tables were ready for us in the back corner near the open kitchen. The restaurant is true to its name with a shared bar and dining room space that evoke the feel of a wood tavern. Here's what we had: Wine of the Day * Rosé (100% Zweigelt), Stefan Pratsch, Niederösterreich, Austria, 2024 ($16) "N/A Libations" and other drinks * Cherry Bomb! non-alcoholic cocktail ($13) - Tilden Lacewing, Amarena cherry, lime, ginger beer, tall glass * Shirley Temple ($5) * Diet Coke ($5) * Iced Tea ($4) Soup & Salad * Red & Golden Beet Salad x2 ($16 each, one with fish added for $8) - frisee, castelfranco, pistachios, orange segments, Laura Chenel goat cheese, Cara Cara orange vinaigrette Sandwiches * The Hot Pastrami x2 ($25 each) - Emmentaler cheese, Dijon-horseradish dressing, La Farine baguette Old Reliables * Seafood Stew ($32) - rock cod, Manila clams, PEI mussels, calamari, butter beans, fennel, leeks, chili flakes, garlic toast * Pork Ragu Casarecce ($30) - Castelvetrano olives, Pecorino Romano, Grana Padano, chili flakes, parsley * Tavern Burger with French Fries on Acme Soft Bun with All the Fixins x3 ($25 each, two with cheddar added for $2 each) Everything was excellent. As for what to order, I recommend all of the dishes we got. It really just depends on what you like and/or what you're in the mood for. Everyone loved the food. The beet salad was fresh and flavorful, the pastrami was one of the best I've had anywhere, my mom raved about the seafood stew, my brother-in-law gobbled up all of the casarecce, and the burger was outstanding. Service was polite and speedy. Our server Sophia C was awesome. My absolute favorite things are always the soups, desserts, and candied Meyer lemon peel. Menus change daily for the downstairs restaurant and are posted in advance on the website, so that you can adjust your reservations once the menus are posted if you have any objections. Definitely make reservations a month out as soon as they're available for downstairs, but they can switch you to the upstairs café if you don't like what's being served in the downstairs restaurant that day. We took advantage of this option because one of our party does not eat fish or lamb. The café upstairs is more casual and items can be ordered à la carte from the seasonal menu. I enjoyed my Sonoma duck breast and carrot soup, but the winner was the cardamom mousse. I highly recommend any dish that features fresh produce, especially the bowl of fresh fruit for dessert.

Growing…read moreup in Berkeley, most people are well aware of the infamous restaurant that focuses on farm-to-table dishes and sustainable ingredients. When friends or classmates would tell me they dined here, I was like, " Wow, so boujee. Fast forward to today, and I had the opportunity to go for my Mom's birthday! My family made reservations, which are hard to come by. They need to be made well in advance. We arrived before our 8:30pm reservation and, unfortunately, weren't seated until after 9:00pm. Once inside the dining area, it was lively and loud, intimate, and somewhat more formal compared to their upstairs cafe. Service from all staff was kind; the host occasionally stopped by; our food was delivered, and we were checked on throughout. It was also lovely to peek inside the open-air kitchen. If you dine in their dining area, it's prix-fixe. On my Mom's birthday, they had a salad, pasta, steak, and ice cream. The salad was good--I don't eat mushrooms, but found it tasty and a bit over-dressed. My favorite was the pasta, a little spice. Warm from the noodles but cold from the cheese--the shrimp was nicely cooked. For our entrée, we had a rib-eye. I don't eat steak, but for this occasion I did--it was good, but because I rarely eat beef, I couldn't compare it to other rib-eyes I'd had. The vegetables were good and quite fresh. I gave the ice cream to my family since I don't have dairy, but the fruit was great! Overall I enjoyed more dishes than others. The bread and drinks were also good. I'd be curious to come back for a different prix-fixe. Chez Panisse is a must visit once restaurant in my opinion--whether you're local to the area or live in the Bay Area. Alice Waters is famous and has won a multitude of awards for a reason. I'm happy to have finally dined here and celebrated my Mom's birthday. The restaurant is off Shattuck Ave. with street parking around.
