I bought a meatloaf from this store today which I have done for years, But when we sat down to eat it we found it to be very spicy. We picked threw it and found it full of jalapenos. What a surprise! So I called the store and talked to a Manager? She was no help told me the meat dept was closed and seemed to think it was not her problem. Can't go down aisles, digital coupons don't work unless you have the app - but I NEVER had the app in Mokena and just used the kiosk for the coupons. From the serious decline in overall appearance of their stores, to the sub quality meats they are now buying but raised prices on, to the reduction in staff, long check out lines and horrible deli staffing. I had called Jewel Osco in Frankfort and Brookhaven grocery store in Mokena asking if they had frozen turkeys, what brand and approximate weights. Also had actually visited Marianos in Frankfort because when I called their meat department, the women told me they had twenty two pound butterball turkeys. They in fact did not. The gentleman at the meat dept at Jewel told me he had a line of 5 people and too busy to check. Brookhaven meat dept gentleman was very nice but they only had 13-14 lb frozen turkey. I called Berkots and the gentleman from the meat department could not have been nicer. He said he would put aside a 22 pound one for me no problem. He went out to the section first to verify there was that size. He even put it in my cart for me. I am a senior citizen. I will be shopping at Berkots now. I've shopped here for several years. I like the fact that the National chain stores don't carry. The meat department has great quality meats. And a good selection of cuts. Produce is fresh and a broad selection of items some unique. Deli has nice selection of neat and cheese. Deli salads are expansive. And the holiday prepared meals I've ordered were well made tasty and good value. But today I had to pick up a custom order from that bake shop. I was having severe pain in my foot and stopped at customer service to see if someone could bring my items to the checkout area for me to avoid having to walk. The two women at customer service were so accommodating and so genuinely kind one went to get my order from the back of the store and they even offered to get me a chair while I waited. When the items were brought to the front, I paid for them at the same counter and they called the man that works there to take these items out to my car. I could not have done this without his help. The one box was the size of a full sheet cake and I was walking with. It came so caring these items even though they were in a cart would've been impossible. This kind of service is rare these days Natalie did the accommodate me, but did so in such a way that I didn't feel like I was a bother and they went above and beyond. read more

Recently came here with my friend to show me around this place and what it had to offer. Great variety of everything. It's not exactly your average grocery store. It's got more fresh options. Picked up some salmon and a giant rack of ribs for a decent price as well. Lines aren't too bad either. Service was decent. The parking lot is truthfully a nightmare at times to deal with. Very disappointing experience tonight. Went shopping, got home and checked receipt. Saw I was charged for an item of produce I did not (and don't ever) buy. Went back to the store to sort this out and customer service was not helpful at all. The employee asked me if I was sure I didn't see the item at home, did it get lost in a bag, and would I like to "go home and check one more time." What?! Who is training these people? read more

Place is locale and that is all I can say, have cheap pricing is my second thing to say , but watch out for the meats and chicken and yogurts and milk they need to realign, their expired goods or very short dated stuff you're going to end up throwing things out or get sick Managers need to handle the products fresher be careful peeps. read more

I was there at 8:30 pm to pick up a few things and checked out at 9:10 pm. You would have thought the store was already closing. Deli was all cleaned up and I asked if I could get some salami. They slightly laughed at me, then got it for me. I said I thought the store was open until 10 pm; she said it is but the deli is not. I have had bad experiences with produce here and there is rotten produce on their shelves like the seedless cucumbers last night. I found milk and deli meat on the shelves that were expiring that day or had expired. When I went to check out the only register open was the fast lane 10 items or less. I asked if I should come over and he said no, this girl will take you and then apologized to her that she had to re- open her register. Seriously- who is the customer buying your food? It happed to me when I rarely go into this store now. I went there on Friday, 10/5 to pick up some last minute items for a weekend trip. I didn't check the date on the half gallon milk I picked up and sure enough it was expired. Expired on 10/2! What a joke this place is! What's happened to Berkots? I've been shopping there since the mid 80's. It used to have the best choice of meats, good produce and more brand names from which to choose. A bag of fruit goes bad in 3-4 days; Chiquita and DelMonte bananas are gone, replaced by some unknown brand and the price is up $.20/lb. The deli has been downsized with many items prepackaged instead of freshly cut or prepared. the expiration dates on dairy items and other items need to be checked or you could be getting something that's passed it's time I'm very disappointed in Berkots and the kind of store it's become. It's more like a glorified 7/11 than the great local grocery store of days gone by. read more

The food they cater is very good. However, I would call to order your food because the menu online is not a good guild as to what you may or may not be getting. The menu says you get 14 bagel sandwiches. That is not true you only get 14 half sandwiches. The round cakes look as if you would get a double layer. Also not true, you get a single layer. So save your party and call to make sure you are getting what you need. I wish I had done so. read more

We love our Mokena Berkots. I get my meat from there because it looks very nice, has very good prices and helpful butchers are always on hand. Its our local grocery store and have been shopping there about 30 years. We always get Berkots Fried Chicken for family events! I like how Berkots has progressed. I do like their meat and make a special trip to just do a "meat shop". Prices on other items, meh. I may pick up a thing or two that I immediately need, but for major stock up I would go elsewhere. The big complaint is, the cashiers! ALWAYS crabby. They were crabby in the Orland Store before it closed. They are crabby at the Mokena store. I don't think I have ever had a nice one. They all seem to be young and act like they are doing you a favor. No pleasantries exchanged, no "thank you" as they hand you your receipt, basically nothing - are they robots? Went to pick up a few things. Got some chicken breasts. Baked chicken in oven. Chicken started out filling the baking dish. Breasts were overlapping. Do not buy any berkot's sales ribs they are almost all fat. I can't believe that they actually put these in the meat counter for sale.

Multiple times I have purchased meats that were either expired or of low quality. Spoiled chicken (but it was on sale!) and of course spare ribs that had a slab full of fat, tucked underneath the actual meat. I don't know how they get away with this. So I haven't been back since they remodeled. It looks good from the outside. But why is this the only grocery store that has flies on the fruits and vegetables? The peaches looked like they fell off the truck and rolled into the store. I wanted some chicken and it just looked old and somewhat slimy. I did grab a couple of Oberweis jugs of milk and when I went to check out the cashier put them both in one bag and tied them up. Really! She was complaining at how heavy they were and discussed with someone else about paper bags, but at no time did the bulb ever come on! And the cucumber came up at the wrong price. But I knew that about this place and it was too hot to complain. The heat is why I didn't go to Brookhaven in the first place. I should have read my last review. read more

This is where I go for my alcohol runs since it's walkable from home. Be sure to check the weekly ads for the beer of the month, it usually is some kind of 12 pack for $12. Once month it was Blue Moon and they'll have specials like Heineken for the same price. Good selection of craft beers. Their liquor can be a tad pricy though, I bought some gin that was overpriced. Around St. Patrick's Day they had the Guinness promoters giving away from engraved glasses which was nice. Can't say anything about the food, but the place was clean enough. read more

I've asked for help before and the answer I got was "Anything!" and they mean it. They will help you. I love the store. All the employees are friendly. Their prices in sales are outstanding. When my girlfriend comes to visit from Indiana she does her shopping there as well. You can't beat the prices and they're fresh meat, produce, and liquor. I hate stores that can't give a person a job and want you to self check your groceries and punch in codes your produce.
