This is the ABSOLUTE BEST practice for glaucoma patients. My husband needed an emergency appointment for high pressures in his eyes due to his glaucoma. He was given an appointment in short order. I was out of town for this appointment, however, Dr Michael Izzo called me on the phone during the appointment to include me in the conversation to go over everything including the need for surgery. He explained everything in an easy to understand manner for my husband and for me. He said the surgery would be scheduled for the following week when I would be home. The surgery went great. The aftercare has been amazing. Dr. Izzo is so caring about his patients. He makes sure that you understand everything that is going on with your eyes, he's very detailed in his examination and encourages questions and concerns! With my husband, who is 71, he explained why he should no longer be driving due the type and extent of his vision loss in a way that was not demeaning or harsh. My husband and I both appreciated the kind manner in which he did so. In short, he is an amazing doctor and we couldn't be happier with the care we received. As to the staff, they were professional, understanding and caring. Our appointments were made to accommodate our schedule regarding times and days. The staff in the back helping the doctors are just as amazing. We love this practice and would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone, definitely as 10/10 stars! read more

Nice confidence-inspiring set-up and process at Berks Eye, but cataract treatment results were NOT visually impressive. The first issue is that Dr. Domenic Izzo thinks a lot of himself. One eye accelerated into cataracts due to a prior surgery - despite the opportunity to correct my far vision or use newer variable focal length lenses, Izzo just said flat out he's going to give me back my myopia to match my other eye (bad far vision, better up close). I've been in the medicine field for two decades, experienced different levels of vision in one eye for a bit, and worn contacts - I know what the problems can be, but he tired of answering after question number two. Based on familial history, I was fairly sure I would need the other eye done so they would match in the near future - Izzo was having none of that. Surgery (2017) went well on my "bad" eye and, after post-op laser treatment (2021) to clear the cloudly membrane that developed I had my clear but myopic vision back. More disappointing was the result of cataract surgery for the other, "good" eye. Given the ultimate result for my previous cataract surgery and recent laser clean-up, I decided to go back to Berks Eye and Dr. Izzo since they were familiar with my case and this would be the simple case to do (also in 2021). Possibly based on patient reviews in the intravening period, Dr. Izzo was at least pretending that he had a more receptive attitude about listening to the patient. Unfortunately, Izzo's surgery on the "good" eye resulted in NON-CORRECTABLE VISION problems both far AND NEAR. Questioned about this, that's when he brought out the old chestnut: "That's why you wear glasses!" I wish it were that simple. TWO DECADES PRIOR my parents both had cataract surgery and both ended up with nearly 20-20 far vision, so given that Dr. Izzo had forced the simple (myopic) lens replacement on me and that this was a straight-forward change to my good eye, I did expect a result at this level. While Dr. Izzo kept up a patter and went through the motions post-op of feigning that the results were good ("see how it's almost acceptable through the pinhole occluder"?), I now have some kind of UNCORRECTABLE warp in my near vision in that eye, which affects sports/driving/etc. Wearing the glasses PRESCRIBED BY DR. IZZO, I am basically "single-eyeing it" for all reading, near and far. read more

Aweful!!! Scheduled a new patient appointment and was not told that I would be there for 3 hours; no joke. They have no consideration for their patients. I felt like they were hearding a cattle drive. People everywhere, lots of staff running around and no one knows what's going. I had to ask 2 different times how much longer. The women said that new visits usually took that long! Why wouldn't th inform people when making the appointment. Then they sent me for blood work and never sent lab request to the lab. I had to cancel appointment and reschedule. Called to confirm lab was sent before my 2nd lab appointment and was told they sent it. Got to lab and they never sent script!! Called to have it sent again and women said she would ask but they normally don't fax Again, aweful!! read more

The clarity of my vision is amazing. Dr. Peter Calder spent time with me before the surgery answering my questions and exceeded all expectations with numerous post-surgery follow-ups. I have been to two appts in the last few months, Clearly they are overbooking. When there are 30 people in the waiting room at a given time you have scheduled poorly. My first appt I was there 3 hours, Then my follow up I was there two hours! I think this is ridiculous and could use improving. As far as the care, It is good. By the time you see a Doctor you are so frustrated and just want to be done that the visit is not productive. This place is a rip off. Overpriced and the optical department is staffed by people who will try and talk you into spending money on things you don't need. They remind me of used car salesmen. Then, tried to get a copy of my prescription and they refused - said it was "archived" because it was just over two years old. Don't know how that gives them the rights to my personal medical records. If you've got an afternoon to sit around waiting, and lots of money to spend this is the place for you. I normally don't review, but after being called the day before to say my contacts are in and calling back 2 minutes later. The office is closed, ok no worries. Next day I call, the receptionist tells me "no you don't need an appt. Just come in and pick them up.". Even after I explained that the voice mail left said I needed one. Again I am told no I don't need an appt. Ok, so I go in to pick up the contacts. Only to be told I need an appt. Seriously??? I said on the phone numerous times I did. Only to be told I don't. All this miscommunication by this office. Medical is not cheap, and to deal with this communication. Your better off else where. read more

Very Upset ..I had been going here for years since Fighting Leukaemia..where they bashed my records..Saying I'm not calling or coming back in! as I was in and out of Hershey Cancer Center getting chemotherapies for weeks or transfusions of blood or platelets .As prior to Prescription from Hershey to have them see my blinding spit on eye ..Fighting AML Leukaemia..have 110 rounds 24/7 non stop.. Moving to Now ..I spent and insurance spent thousands..throughout yrs. On contacts glasses eye exams ..Then I'm diagnosed with Cataract..ugh Pushed to call husband at work to get Care Credit ..ok for Thousands before surgery. I get one eye done ..I can't see the orbs bright stars and strange on eye ..left my eye swollen brow dropped, eye hung ..and pressed pain over 7 months . Till they send me to Philadelphia..Ophthalmologist Partners ,and they send me to Willis Eyes .. Horrible thing..no one knew what to do but More surgery, to find out The lens was to strong in my eye,and wrong kind . Ok 2 Surgeries same eye .then Dr Richard Tipperman In Philadelphia completed Cataract on right eye ..perfect no problems. Still have trouble with left . Now all in all I was treated terrible by Office Manager..older lady ( we have names on printed out forms ) But Now Yesterday.. I'm scripted by one Specialist..to This Practice Berks Eye ..again on Post Acute Troubles falling down Stairs ,,fractured skull 2 places, subdural hemotoma bleeding ,lost left hearing ,to Troubles sight and sinus sphenoid crack . Being in Trauma 11 days..in dark room to heal brain ..then sent Reading Tower Rehabilitation for 12 days to learn how speak ..PT and OT..and many devices..to Hospital Bed to home and 4 different nurses ..walking trying and terrible vertigo nauseated ect. ..These people treated me horrible treating me yelling at me.and my husband.laughing behind isle laughing mocking Making us wait forever .. Again..and it will be a longer Wait ..till we Can Find A Room and Doctor can see you?!, We just came out if the room. TOLD TO WAIT!? So unprofessional here. I had an appointment scheduled on the 23rd and it was canceled due to the storm. Was told when I was called to let me know it was canceled, the employee on the line was extremely rude and despite me explaining multiple times I live across the state for college, they were unhelpful and refused to help schedule me. I was then told I would be called Tuesday the 27th when the offices were reopened. Never received a call. Sent a request via website for an appointment and called again, left a voicemail, and again, never received a call. Thankfully, I was able to get an eye check with 1-800-contacts and get more considering I had 4 pairs left and berks eye would not let me order more without my yearly appointment despite refusing to help reschedule. Ive experienced rude employees here for years but this was the icing on the cake. Will 100% be searching for a new office. read more

I have been using this practice for 10 years now. Because I am pre-diabetic I see Dr. Calder on a yearly basis to check for diabetic retinopathy. I also had West Nile Virus in 2018 with encephalitis that caused pressure on the retina of my right eye. I was seeing white blood cell floaters in my right eye for 3 months. I was followed closely by Dr. Bronner to resolve this issue. I visited Dr. Horst last week to be fitted for variable focal contact lenses. The contact lens in my left eye was bothering me and I called today. Even though Dr. Horst was on vacation, they gave me an appointment with Dr. Pierce this afternoon. He wanted to be sure I did not have a corneal infection. It turns out the soft contact lens had some fibers imbedded in the lens and this was causing the irritation. They gave me a new lens and now the irritation is gone. Having seen many of the physicians and optometrist, I highly recommend this team. They have a comprehensive team to help with all eye care problems. read more

Dr Horst should not be working with the elderly. she's very impatient and rude. I have never seen any opthamologist fly through an eye exam with little-to-no instruction as well as little to no information. Ended up going to Dr. Hornberger in Robesona/Wernersville area who was absolutely fantastic. She was so patient and spent nearly an hour with my 86 year-old mother. My whole family enjoys going to Berks Eye, everyone is very professional and overall we have a great experience!

My optometrist had me call them for an emergency, a sudden loss of vision, swelling, and pressure in one eye. The doctor said for me to come in, that it is probably a migraine but he wanted to make sure there are no busted blood vessels or worse just to be sure. I do not have my new insurance cards yet, which I told them before I came. Once all the paperwork was done I was told since they can't verify my insurance they could not see me. That I could go to the emergency room. So if I do have such a serious issue that I have to come in but I don't have proof of insurance right then it's not serious for them anymore. I didn't ask for them, the doctor wanted me to come in! I don't have a problem with the rules but they should have known that before telling me to come in. Very "cold" group! read more

I was a little apprehensive and nervous during my first visit but found Dr. Izzo and his staff to be understanding and both willing and able to answer all my questions and to address my concerns. The cataract surgery procedure and the options I could choose from were explained very clearly so I felt comfortable making decisions that I felt would work best for me. Both my surgeries were successful and I am very happy with the results. Dr. Izzo and his staff were also great with follow-up calls after my surgeries including 3 calls from Dr. Izzo himself....one of which was on a Sunday afternoon. DECEPTIVE BUSINESS PRACTICES I had an eye exam about a year ago and was only told at end of appt that I owed an additional 70 on top of insurance. Not only that the doctor gave me the wrong prescription and had to come back to get re-examined by another dr. I had an appt. at Linsey eye care about a week or so ago and and cancelled because they charged 70 on top of insurance for contact exam so I called Berks eye back and asked them what does my insurance give me towards a contact exam. they first said I had to cancel my appt.so they could access my insurance info, I did and then I specifically mentioned the past issues with billing and service with them and I asked what the fee for a contact lens exam would be on top of what my insurance covers she said when I made the appt. and I quote 50 DOLLARS for fitting. I asked again to double check because they didnt disclose before any extra fees until after the exam. Again she said 50 dollars. So I made my appt. today July 10 2018 and after the exam I went to check out and they said I owe 100 dollars I stated what was quoted and they admitted that was true but the doctor said it is now 100. I refused to pay the extra 50 and they said they would hold my prescription hostage utilI paid. They kept shuffling around to different secretary's, they were rude and disrespectful and in front of my 13yr old daughter and smirking they thought it was a joke. read more
