went there after the bars me and a couple friends saw the burrito price was like $11 decided to get her own. like 5 of us. Yes, we've been drinking while we are not drunk to know what is a normal price. we did not get anything extra besides the added cheese. went from 11 dollars to 19each all of totaled over 100$ I was pissed off, cause I knew they were playing us cause they think we're to drunk to realize.No extra meat or anything special just ask for cheese queso. Cannot understand why that price came out to be asked for a receipt and it just tells you what the burrito is in the price. It doesn't tell you what the charges were motherfuckers are scammers. I hope the restaurant fails so I can laugh because they don't need to be working in the food industry. Don't take advantage of people. I never went back since then, but I came back to read up and see if the restaurant is still going. Went here for a steak burrito - made very quickly, staff was very polite. Burrito had great flavor. The extra hot sauce was truly extra Hot! Place was very well maintained and clean. A quick street style burrito - where you can pick what goes in it. Might be the best of its kind in the area. And they are open late! read more

We came as a lunch date just me and my parents. It was almost 2, so we felt a little guilty, but they did not disappoint! There were a set of enchiladas (carnitas & steak) and a steak burrito that were so good I couldn't catch a picture. And then the waffle fry nachos... holy heaven. Bernardo's is a cool little basement mexican joint that you can grab a late night taco or burrito. They also have a bar with kareoke on weekend or might just be playing a spelling bee on the tv. The staff is really sweet and very nice. I have not eaten anything here yet, but my friends Chris and Chris both got food and it looked great! Actually now that I think about it I had a couple of his tater tots which were quite hot and delcious! The drinks here are a bit pricey! 4.50 for a tall boy of Busch Light, but you can look pass that when you are eating tater tots watching a spelling bee! read more

This breaks my heart but yeah $30 is way too much for tacos I could make myself at home. The steak was way off this time, stretchy and fatty. The pico de Gallo was not fresh. Mealy tomatoes. Not sure why the ratings are so low. Went on a Saturday night after a wedding. It was busy, and the workers were all fast with the orders. I got a steak burrito, and wife got a chicken burrito. Buddy and I went in after bar close, both of us got a burrito. Got to the counter and the dude working the cash register told us the burritos were $24 a piece. Obviously, we were astounded and told them we weren't paying $48 for two sub-par burritos. The dude looked us straight in the face and said it was that expensive because we got guacamole. Got nachos and the food was great! Fast, quick service from the restaurant side. I would've given more stars but the staff on the bar/karaoke side needs some work. The bartender was rude and didn't take orders. The "DJ" made rude comments about everyone's song requests. Ran into this place by chance when I went out in court ave at night. I tried to get into Fong's and that was unsuccessful, so found this little gem! The service was quick and efficient. I got a carne Asasa quesadilla and my group all got burritos. Although a little expensive at $12, the quesadilla was good and I liked that it tasted less greasy than other similar ones I've had before. My friends loved their burritos and they were massive. Great place to go after drinking especially! There isn't much sitting space but I think people generally don't linger too long there. First-rate burritoria right in downtown! Note that this is in a basement between Fong's and the Copper Cup (you might miss it otherwise). I was especially pleased that a. the hot salsa had some kick and b. I was able to take my burrito over to the bar, sit and watch Tour de France and order a beer while I ate my burrito. The prices are a bit more than the typical burritoria experience, but given the quality and location, it seems reasonable. I think I paid $8 for a Carnitas burrito, which as noted is a bit high, but I'm definitely going back. Regarding Carnitas, even though I normally avoid meat, I have a weakness for Carnitas and almost always order Carnitas burritos when I visit this type of burrito restaurant, which means I have a fair measure for comparing from one place to another (although biased if they do the carnitas itself well or poorly - it's a style of cooking pork). I think this is the best burrito I have had in Iowa (I know 2-3 places in California that consistently have better Carnitas burritos and the other places I frequent in California have Carnitas burritos comparable to Bernardos - including the place I eat burritos most often for convenience when there.) read more

I've loved this place for a long time, and it pains me to give this score, but service and satisfaction has plummeted here. I've always tipped very well even tho the service was very rude. I've tipped them well in the past in hopes I could build a relationship. Also, they recently cut the menu in half. Which makes sense, the menu was huge. But they deleted guacamole. I walked into the restaurant asking for guac and they very rudely replied, "Do you see it on the menu?" I think the normal thing to say would be closer to, "Sorry we shortened our menu and we don't serve that anymore." As regulars you expect guacamole, so I didn't look at the menu super closely. You have to absolutely smashed drunk for this food to be remotely good & even then I feel you will regret it in the morning. Wish we could rate this zero stars. Food was fine but the guy making it was incredibly rude. He was not interested in making a repeat customer. There are enough Mexican restaurants in DM that will not treat their customers like this. If you don't mind being yelled at for asking whether something is gluten free come here. Otherwise I'd recommend taking your business anywhere but here. The food is not worth the customer service. Bernardos burritos is HORRIBLE with their "service". Terrible experience!!!! Visited this place with mother and sister. The restaurant was empty except for the three of us the the man behind the counter couldn't be bothered with answering questions about his good. When my mother asked to have her fajitas served with the meat on one part of the plate and her vegetables on the other he yelled at her saying "then that's not fajitas!" And "this sure is a lot of work for one meal." He also had no idea what gluten free meant and if his frying oil was gluten free. He actually told my family to go somewhere else where we had a special chef to make our food the way we wanted it. Don't worry we will...any other restaurant will do. read more
