Mojito is a fun word to say and now a really good place to eat. Weekday evening was a perfect time to go. It in a strip mall area and we had driven by multiple times and finally getting in a stop. Our waitress was a sweetheart. I threw my typical questions at her and she was on top of it. Chips were warm and the salsa was perfect. She brought us our drink orders quickly. The blue margarita was a good suggestion. We enjoyed the chips and the drinks. We were taken aback when our meals arrived. Hubby ordered the CA burrito and it was bigger than this forearm! I ordered the steak chimichanga and it also was way more than I imagined it would be. We both enjoyed our meals. We both were so full that I feel like we were going to have to be rolled out of there. The menus are huge. There is no excuse not to find anything. The restaurant is decent sized, with music playing like you come to expect in a Mexican restaurant. I think it was the manager who came out and checked on us to make sure we were doing alright. We decided that we would be back sooner than later. A family member and I had lunch here recently. We enjoyed everything! I had a pina (pineapple) agua fresca, which was refreshing, and chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. The meal included Mexican rice, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream. My family member had a ground beef burrito he liked. His meal included the same sides as mine plus refried beans I would describe the food as flavorful spicy, not intensely hot spicy. The portions were generous. We were there after 1 p.m. on a weekday when the restaurant wasn't busy. The wait time to get our food was definitely reasonable. I would recommend this restaurant. read more

First time there but not the last time for sure! Small place but definitely a solid place for large portions and stiff margaritas! You ever go to a Mexican restaurant and their tortilla chips taste like they came out of a bag at the grocery store and you are so disappointed? Well THIS PLACE IS NOT THAT! The tortilla chips were fresh and crispy and tasty! I mixed the regular salsa with their hot salsa to get a perfect blend! The margarita was a very large and very stiff and a great value! Dinner was their chicken and shrimp burrito covered in the cheese sauce and filled with onions, rice and other yum stuff! The portion was huge and extremely filling! Great new addition to Ankeny! We stopped in shortly after they opened for business. The chips and salsa were fantastic. Our server was very friendly and knowledgable of the menu. My husband had the burrito California and I had the pollo loco. I really enjoyed the chicken and rice but wasn't a huge fan of the beans. My husband enjoyed his burrito as well. The waiting area is not really very big so that may create issues later this year when it's freezing out and they're having a rush. Parking is pretty good as it's in an area with other shops also. Overall I enjoyed my visit and thought they did fantastic for being so new. Can't wait to go back! read more

Great Food! Clean restaurant & Restrooms. The server didn't speak much English but that's ok. Many of the customers were Spanish so obviously the food is good smile. Typical Mexican fare... Fajitas, burritos, tacos and the like. The salsa is excellent!! We both had the Tracy's burrito with steak. I swear, the burrito was bigger than my head!! And smothered with cheese, very good! The drinks. We tried the mojito mule, mojito and a cantarito. All very good! I thought the service was a little slow, but not awful. It took an unusually long time to get one of the drinks I ordered, but it finally came and I enjoyed it. And for Mexican food I thought it took a little longer than normal as well. But The waiter was super friendly, upbeat and entertaining, great personality and attentiveness. He kept coming back to check on us, assure us our food/drinks were coming, apologize for the wait. So it wasn't like he was ignoring us. When we finally got our food it was great. Did I mention the burrito was bigger than my head? Overall good experience. They have great food and drinks, one of my fav Mexican restaurant in Ankeny. They make some amazing fresh guacamole at your table. If you want small order that's still made daily but not as flavorful. Definitely would recommend going there and try the mojito or 3 with some fresh guacamole. I like to always order side of fried jalapeno. Absolutely wonderful! The 4% on charge on cards when pricing is already pretty high is the downside. read more

I ordered their Presidente margarita, guacamole, and Chile Rellenos. The margarita was ok, not blow me away, best I've ever had, but it was ok. The guacamole was "shiny" and lacking. The relleños were tough and soggy. Not the best I've ever had by a long shot. I guess I should have made a different choice for my entree. Chips were hot and service was very good. Had the Saritas, which is a special of theirs, (resembled shrimp and crab mini burritos with a nice sauce and smothered in white cheese sauce - however that description doesn't do it justice at all) and wow great flavor in the special sauce, shrimp had awesome seasoning. I went to Mojitos for lunch. They have an extensive menu, and a special lunch menu. We started by being greeted quickly and we were seated right away. We were waited on quickly and continuously throughout the meal. So, very good service overall. The chips and salsa were excellent. Then they brought us out some queso without us even asking and it was amazing. I ordered a guacamole asunder it arrived quickly and it was a good size. I would return just for the chips, salsa, queso, amber guacamole. I had steak fajitas and I received no cheese and the meat was a bit over cooked. Thus, the 4 stars. Their mojito margarita is my favorite in Ankeny. I usually get chicken fajitas, fajita salad or grilled chicken tacos. All very good. The salsa is great as well as their queso. I'm not a fan of their refried beans. Too bland for my taste. However, don't leave without having their fried ice cream. Amazing! read more

We stopped in for an early dinner today. Got there at 4:30 and were seated promptly. Chips and salsa came shortly after, and that was the best part of our visit. Ten minutes passed and our server came to take our drink order. I ordered a mojito and a water. My husband preserved a pineapple margarita. Another ten min passed and my mojito was brought to the table and the server said it would be a few min because he didn't know how to make the other drink. Another ten min passed and he finally got his drink and the server said he'd be right back to take our order. After another wait, we decided we were going to finish our drinks and go elsewhere. We spent 45 minutes there and as we were getting ready to pay for our drinks they finally came to take our order. Told the waiter and without saying anything he just took the drink from me and brought me another one....don't know if he made it fresh or just fished out the bugs and brought it back either way I was not having it and there was no apology. They were great when they first opened but have really went downhill fast. The food has been fine, pretty average. The service used to be really great. They strived to take care of guests. Our last three visits were not up to par with several mishaps occurring. The wait staff aren't particularly friendly or attentive. On our most recent visit there were multiple gnats in one margarita. Our server didn't get our daughters choice of side correct even though we explained it once, she seemed to not be listening, so we explained it again, and she still seemed to be zoning out. She wasn't attentive in checking in with us. Every time we needed something simple like boxes we sat waiting a long time. At the end we never received a check. We had to go to the front and they told us the total without being able to see that the itemized charges were correct. I didn't want to be charged for the order mistake that they made. What a sloppy lazy experience. The last time we came in we were sat at a dirty booth that had sticky soda spilled all over the floor underneath it. As we approach a dozen Mexican restaurants in Ankeny be advised that you will find better service at any of those. read more

Took 'the kids' (4 adults) to dinner here and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dinners. One had a margarita, one had a mojito, and I had the mojito margarita which was absolutely the best of all three. Plenty of chips and salsa was served while we waited for everyone to arrive. Service was good, as were the chips and salsa. Queso was good, but nothing spectacular. My wife ordered a taco salad, and it was pretty average. I ordered tacos carnitas and the pork was incredibly greasy. Half way through my second taco I bit into a huge piece of fat, which ruined my appetite. There's no way the chef didn't see this when prepping my food. Fortunately we have lots of choices for Mexican food in the DSM metro. Probably won't be back to this place. read more
