I recently received a notification from Google Review that my post has over 8K views. I copy my review that I posted on Google. I still feel angry when I think about my experience. He misdiagnosed me and prescribed the wrong medications. Eventually, my entire left leg became swollen, nearly double its size. I could neither walk nor wear a shoe. Three years ago, I visited the clinic because there were a few red spots on my left ankle that were expanding. I found him from my insurance company's website and visited him for treatment. He administered me a shot and one cream. Initially, the prescription seemed to help in the first two days, but then the red spots continued to expand and worsen. Two weeks later, I returned to him for another visit. Once again, a shot and a stronger cream. Similar to the first time, there was initial improvement within the first two days, but then the condition worsened. Ultimately, I sought out a new dermatologist for treatment. Three years later, My left leg still has some marks if look at closely. read more

This is the second time I've been to Dr. Bernhardt's office and both times the experience was stellar. I'll recap them both (briefly, I promise). Last time I had an appointment at 1:00 but I misjudged traffic and wound up there at 11:45. I wanted to be early to fill out paperwork, but even for me, this was ridiculous. I went in anyway and they gave me the paperwork, which I expected would be the usually ten or so pages. It was two pages. I was done before noon. Dr. Bernhardt took me in before he went to lunch, so I was seen more than an hour before my appointment. Dr. Bernhardt is extremely personable but he does not waste your time or try to up-sell you on anything. I showed him my concern, he told me what it was and the options (one of which was, leave it alone, it's nothing serious, which I decided was the best course of action) and he walked me out to the front. I liked that Dr. Bernhardt himself brought me back and saw me out. I also liked that I was out of there before noon. Today I made the appointment for 8:00 a.m. I got there at 7:45 and the office was still locked. I wasn't surprised because I knew I was the first appointment. Within a few minutes they opened and I went in. I checked in and sat down and was soon greeted by the doctor himself. He took me to the exam room, I showed him the lump and he said it needs to be removed and biopsied. He took care of it right then, without any pain or discomfort at all. He again walked me to the front and I spent several minutes with his office manager, going over insurance and my next appointment. I looked at my watch when I got into my car and it was 8:10. I had a second appointment that morning but I wanted to make sure I had enough time so I made that for 11. It was only three blocks away and I had nearly three hours to kill. He stays current regarding any issues that may be observed, and has never failed to provide accurate and timely diagnosis. I was a long term patient of Dr Bernhardt. I have fair skin and had two early stage melanomas previously removed. I was a very high risk melanoma candidate. I was seeing him 3x/year. My understanding with Dr Bernhardt was to find melanomas! For 18 mos I asked him about a mole on my left forearm and he continually assured that it was not a melanoma. Dr Bernhardt finally biopsied the mole and it had developed in to a very late stage melanoma. The melanoma cancer had traveled to the lymph nodes in my left under arm area and all were removed. I had another mole on my left leg just above the knee. Dr Bernhardt had told me over the course of a year that it was not melanoma. Another dr examined the mole and immediately performed a biopsy. This also was a late stage melanoma. Doctors removed one cancerous lymph node from my groin area and are closely monitoring for now. My life over the last 2 years has been turned upside down. I'm a stage 3 cancer patient and am hoping and praying that I can survive this cancer. I have no idea why he waited so long to biopsy the first melanoma and never biopsied the second! It may cost me my life. There are a few/several placards in the office proclaiming him to be one of the top on time docs in Broward. I have to wonder if that played a role in his biopsy decision making. Please beware!!! read more

Urgent care is more reliable than this dermatology office. This office has plenty of appointment availability, so my family and I would use Dr. Bernhardt whenever any of us had an emergency and couldn't get an appointment with our primary dermatologist (who only saw patients a few days a week, and appointments had to be made weeks in advance). This office misdiagnosed my staph infection and put me on antiviral medications a WEEK and a half until i found out from urgent care that i needed to take an antibacterial. My staph infection had spread so badly that I developed a fever at one point. I went to urgent care for a second opinion, and the nurse there immediately looked at my infection and knew it was staph. More recently, my grandmother came to this office and had the same experience. When things didn't get better after a few days, I took her to urgent care, and the nurse again said my grandmother was on the wrong medications and misdiagnosed. I have never had a doctor as seemingly knowledgable and caring as him with a staff that was as pathetic , irresponsible and non-caring. Dr. Bernhardt is the 4th dermatologist I have seen for the same issue... a small pimple-like bump above my eyebrow. I've had it injected (to dissolve it), I've had it treated with a laser (to try to flatten it), neither worked. I had been told it wasn't worth cutting out because it would leave a crater. I had been living with this unsightly bump on my head for over 12 years for me to step into Dr. Bernhardt's office and leave 15 minutes later with a full skin checkup, a prescription for eczema cream, and have that stupid bump removed with the quick prick of an electric needle... one week later, it's completely gone and healed. If only I had come here sooner!!! I can't recommend him enough. Additionally, I have never been in and out of a doctor's office so quickly. Don't confuse waiting in the lobby/patient room for hours with good care. Dr. Bernhardt is the best!!! I will also add... his prices are the most fair I have ever come across. read more

I don't know quite where to begin. I had a small dime size circle on my clavicle that looked a little suspicious. Dr. Bernhardt was hIghly recommended. I am not a "doctor person" so this was a big deal for me ... I was scared. Upon meeting him I had tears in my eyes within the first five minutes he gently put my mind at ease. He was kind, compassionate & very understanding of my fear. He "performed his magic" it took all of 15 minutes. I had to return for a follow up once the results were back from the lab. During the week it caused me some discomfort it was NOT an emergency ... I left a voice message after hours expressing my concern. The very next morning he returned my call and put my mind at ease. I returned for my scheduled follow up and as he predicted ALL WAS WELL. Dr. Bernhardt is the best of the best... if you are debating ... debate no longer. Ive been a patient here for about four years. In my visits, it is nearly impossible to spend more than 5 minutes with Dr. Bernhardt before he sends you away for his next patient. I was there to treat acne, which he was never able to find a remedy for, even with dozens of visits across the years. I had a small lipoma on the back of my neck that was bothering me and that I wanted removed. I went and made an appt. The total visit was 120 seconds. I am not kidding. After a three second look, He told me - and I quote- he couldn't do anything for me. He said you want to know why? Umm, yes. As he does his paperwork, back turned, he said you can't see it. It doesn't affect anything. Will likely come back if removed. Gave me the name of a German plastic surgeon who I could see if I really wanted to remove it. Opens door. Walking down hallway he mumbles "maybe next time you see me I can do something for you" as he grabs the next file and announces the next patient's name. Wife is receptionist. Doesn't take credit cards. Cash or check. $50 copay and starts bitching about how she hopes she won't have a problem with my insurance since I apparently only have 4 doc office visits a year. I hand her $50 cash and tell her well, he couldn't help me anyway, as I burned through an office visit. As she starts saying whatever the hell she was complaining about, I walk out. Again, a 120 second office visit. Glad you needed the money more than me. Six patients were seen in 30 mins. Last time I or my family step foot in his door. Just horrible. read more

The man had no bedside manners, he was extremely unpleasant, condescending, and left me with a scar that was so unnecessary. Thank goodness I listened to my gut and went to another dermatologist, who properly diagnosed it and sent me for the proper surgery by a plastic surgeon. I dodged a bullet. I've been seeing Dr. B for 10 years - ever since I moved to Ft. Lauderdale. He's awesome... he diagnosed something that no one else was able to recognize, which could literally save my life.
