Probably one of the better meals you can get in these parts, I got the hamburger steak smothered in gravy that was surprisingly delicious. The inside is clean and there are plenty of tables. During lunch on a Friday it wasn't crowded at all. My plate cost around $15 and I wouldn't hesitate to stop in again. read more

We were not acknowledged when we came in. Once we FINALLY got seated. Oh waitress was nice but forgot to bring us our drinks. So we asked and she said "getting them now" (15 mins later). We ordered an appetizer (it took FOREVER). Our food was taken to the wrong table. We patiently sat for an hour with no refill and 6 shrimp. They tried to put our orders back in but we declined. My previous occasions to eat at Berni's had convinced me to take a good friend there to eat. This is a charming, albeit a bit noisy, restaurant specializing in seafood. I had the Berni's seafood platter. The shrimp was great, the oysters were great, the scallops remarkable, the fish and crab cakes were delicious. The Fried Green Tomato appetizer was the best ever. All good, right? Not quite. The service was not anywhere as good as the food. Our waitress was friendly enough taking our order, but could not be found as we needed a refill on our drinks. She failed to bring melted butter for my friend's lobster, no tarter sauce, red sauce or even ketchup was offered until we flagged down a different waitress. No offer of a doggie bag. She cheerfully brought us our checks with a big smile hoping to secure a large tip, but neither of us felt she had earned more than 15%. I highly recommend the food in the restaurant and odds are you will get better service than we did, given that I didn't recall the service being poor on my previous visits, but be prepared to insist on good service if your waitress is off her game, as ours was tonight. read more

I visited Bernie's on the recommendation of a good friend. There were only two occupied tables when we arrived, very early in the lunch hour! Even that early, they were out of the first two items I ordered, & were missing one ingredient for my third choice & could not make it either! They prepared my fourth choice, & it eventually arrived. The dish contained grilled veggies, some of which were so burned on one side as to be inedible! I hope this is not typical, & they were just having a really bad day? I wouldn't preclude the possibility of trying Bernie's again, but this visit was a total bust! If this is typical, I could not recommend this restaurant!? read more

We visited Bernie's on a Wednesday and it was great as it wasn't packed like on the weekends. The food and service was exceptional. Our waitress was awesome and very attentive to anything we needed. We were all very impressed with Berni's. We traveled through and based on yelp reviews thought we would try it. We arrived at the tail end of lunch. The service was great and the food was outstanding. We were very impressed with the selections of sides as well. We ordered a French Dip Sandwich, Philly Cheesesteak, and a Bangin Shrimp Wrap. All were great. The sides we chose were fried pickles, fried green tomatoes and a loaded baked potato. We will definitely be back next time we travel through Swainsboro. read more

The fish was excellent. We tried two different dishes and both were great. The fried gator was also very good. The restaurant is quaint with really friendly staff. I'd say the service was good, for not being overly busy they took a little time on drinks. However the food came very quickly so I didn't knock the stars. Stopped by for lunch on our way through town. Fast, friendly service with a comfortable, rustic steakhouse decor. We had the oyster po-boy with fried green tomatoes and the French dip with fried squash. Everything came out hot and fresh. The fried squash and tomato's were perfectly cooked with a cornmeal coating-crunchy, not greasy. We will be sure to come this way again and stop to try their other meals! read more

In quaint little Swainsboro Georgia, there is a real gem of a restaurant called Berni's on West Main Street. It's right beside the fountain on the square and although the outside is understated, the food certainly isn't. They have fish like grouper, shrimp, crab cakes, mountainous steaks, pastas, burgers, sandwiches and everything is so delicious your mouth will water just coming in. It also boasts great salads and a full bar. It's usually crowded at night so expect a few minutes wait and it does take a short while to get your dinner because it is cooked to order but you must try it. You will find reasons to come back to Swainsboro just to eat there. It seriously is that good!! read more

sorry.. have had previous good experiences but not today! waited 30 min for a chicken salad croissant and tomato soup, and a chicken finger platter with a sweet potato. the croissant and sweet potato were good. the cup of tomato 'soup' was literally a glob of very thick marinara with parmesan on top. sent it back for sweet potato fries, which didn't come before sandwich was finished, so canceled them. chicken 'tenders' were anything but! tough, stringy.. like they were cooked yesterday and microwaved. manager knocked off $2 (gee thanks) so we paid $22 and left hungry. read more

On our second trip to Swainsboro GA we decided to try Berni's. We were so glad we did! My husband ordered the fried flounder and loaded baked potato and I ordered one of the specials, which was the Lime Halibut with vegetables and rice. It was so good! Meal came with baked bread with honey butter.yummy! We also ordered an appetizer, Bang Bang shrimp. So good! This restaurant is a hidden Jewel. We stayed in town for a night. Looked on Yelp for nearby restaurants. We were glad we tried it. Each booth was walled in, so it was semi private, didn't have to hear conversations behind you. We got Bernie's Seafood Sampler and Kabobs. The sampler was cooked to perfection. Crab cake was not jumbo lump, but was all crab. The scallop was tender. The kabob was tender and cooked medium just like ordered. If I was local I would like to try more. read more

My lady and i went by on friday morning for breakfast, and boy-oh-boy, were we treated to two wonderful meats. We ordered omelets. Mine was the Western Omelet, with biscuits and sausage gravy, and hers was a Ham and Cheese omelet. I happened to stumble upon this fantastic place in Swainsboro. This is some of the best food that you will find anywhere. I had the shrimp and crab cakes and they were fantastic! I have lived in the keys and currently live in North Florida so I know seafood. This is without a doubt right at the top of the list of some the best seafood that you can get anywhere! It is fresh and cooked to perfection. My girlfriend had the salmon and it was cooked perfectly as well. There was also a wide array of wonderful and creatively prepared sides as well. Who would have thought an upscale place like Berni's would succeed in little Swainsboro! So many have tried to make a go in this location with no success. Bravo to this place for making it work! The prices are quite high but the food quality is there. I am glad our waitress suggested the small plate of shrimp and grits. It was the size of some full size entrees at other places and priced at $12. Absolutely the best shrimp and grits I've ever had! My guest had the pasta of the day that was loaded with lightly cooked vegetables and prosciutto - full size $24, small plate $12 - both came with a salad. My son's pork chop was a disappointment. The chop is about an inch thick and half of it was raw. We sent it back for more grilling. It came back very charred but still not cooked thoroughly. The owner removed it from our bill. Nice selection of beer, wine, and liquor. Very friendly and accommodating service! read more

I was in town for a meeting and we heard Berni's was good. They had a small but nice selection of bears, wine and mixed drinks. The white tablecloth decor was a little more upscale than we expected, but we ate outside which was pleasant, but decidedly much more casual. We started with a crab spread appetizer which was tasty, but filling, so I ordered a citrus salad for my main course. It was good with Kiwi, orange slices and nicely marinated chicken. The dressing which came with was light and served on the side. My friend got a stuffed salmon special which was very good, and Very generous. The salmon was not overcooked. Overall, a good experience. Our server was waiting on tables inside, so we didn't see her much, but we weren't lacking anything and she did apologize. read more
