What a fabulous dining experience we had at this precious old Victorian design 3 story home in Swainsboro, GA. Beautiful wrap around porch with plenty of chairs, swings and benches to enjoy sitting outside and just chill before or after you eat. Enormous southern themed buffet with huge salad bar and equally giant food bar. Today there was fried chicken, pork steak cutlets, and fresh fish along with another dozen or so favorites like mac-n-cheese, sweet potato casserole, and green beens. The service was great and each dining room had comfortable padded chairs with lovely solid dark hardwood tables. We loved everything we tried, and we most definitely will go back again soon. Even had a cute gift shop with local syrup, honey and artsy crafts. read more

I was recently visiting family in Georgia and they brought me to the Coleman house for dinner. It was a little bit of a ride from their area, but driving through Georgia is beautiful anyways!! The restaurant is in a big beautiful home, we came in through the back door which was near where we parked and there is a huge hallway from the front to back of the building and that's where the huge buffet is located. All the tables are set up in the adjoining rooms and they are all gorgeously decorated. The buffet was delicious, so many things to pick from and I was in my southern roots glory!!! I would definitely recommend this place and would love to come again if I get the chance!! read more

This is absolutely one of my favorite places to go for down home (homemade)cooking at its best! I have spent my last 4 birthdays here for brunch! You must go here for Sunday Brunch you will be blown away by the experience. Work up your appetite with the drive. It takes a minute to get there but when you do you won't be disappointed. A beautiful bed and breakfast. Connie and her crew are busy (non stop)filling up the buffet with fried chicken and let me tell you it is the best around. Everything on the buffet is made with such love and care you would think your Mom or Grandma was in the kitchen cooking. they have so many different dishes to choose from. The salad bar is amazingly fresh and filled to abundance. You have to try the Grape Salad it is delicious. Don't get me started on the Sunday desserts. When one is in Swainsboro, it would be remiss not to eat lunch at the Coleman House. This place is legendary amongst the good folks of this small town. The Coleman House used to be a funeral home that they converted into a restaurant. This gives it a pretty nice layout. They seat customers in numerous rooms, which are all a little bit different than the other. While you wait to be seated, they have a couple of rooms that offer handcrafted gifts for sale. The place is spacious, comfortable and feels more like a home than a restaurant. While I've been told that the Coleman House has a menu, I haven't met anybody that has actually ordered off of it. One comes here for the buffet. And what a buffet it is! Dear Lord, if there's any traditional southern food you can think of, they probably got it. The hot bar has corn on the cob, broccoli casserole, butter beans, green beans, glazed carrots, sweet potato souflee, candied yams, mustard greens, chicken & dumplings, fried chicken, fried flounder, beef hash with rice, cranberry muffins, and cornbread. They also have a pretty standard salad bar whose highlights include a delicious grape salad and pretty tasty pasta salad. Everything I had was good but the fried chicken and flounder were out of this world. The chicken was so moist and juicy that the meat fell right off of the bone. The fish was delicately fried and very tasty. The chicken and dumplings were also exceptional. Service was friendly and the buffet was restocked early and often. Hopefully I can make it out here every time I'm in the 'Boro. read more

What a great meal in a lovely location. An old mansion, each dining room is different, with a few tables in each. The sun porch is particularly pretty, but all are nice. It is a buffet, so people are up and down, but it is not intrusive. And if it were, food would be worth it. 2 or 3 meats (one is always fried chicken), five or six veggies, and a HUGE salad bar. Most importantly, it is GOOD - quality AND quantity! Definitely off the beaten path, but worth a trip! read more

We stopped by the Coleman House the other day for the umpteenth time, and darned if it doesn't seem to be getting even better. The deviled eggs are downright memorable, the fried chicken so moist it falls off the bone and the chocolate chess pie good enough to eat seconds (or thirds). It's the best Southern food buffet we've ever found -- everything seems homemade just minutes before we arrived -- and there just aren't any disappointments. Well, we had to wait 40 minutes because we arrived just after the Sun day church crowd. But it was soooo worth the wait. Do yourself a favor: go out of the way and visit the Coleman House. We're upgrading it to five stars. Should have done it months ago. read more

Perfect place! I am pretty sure it is one of the only places to eat in the Swainsboro area but if you are passing through on I-16 it is completely worth the short drive off of the interstate! We are visiting friends in adrian and absolutely fell in love with this area! They recommended going to colemans bed and breakfast for lunch and I want to spread the word. We had our first visit on Sunday, 2/19/17, based on a recommendation from a friend in Statesboro. The buffet was wonderful--a huge variety of meats, vegetables, breads; a great salad bar, and several different kinds of desserts. The only problem is that there is no way to try some of everything, although I would love to try. The price for the sunday buffet is $16 per person, including drink and tax, which is a bargain due to the variety, quality, and atmosphere. The service was outstanding too. We were very impressed with the lunch buffet they offer at Coleman House. It consisted of some chicken dishes, fried chicken, a shredded beef dish, breads, a variety of vegetables, salads, and desserts. It is definitely a gem in Swainsboro, GA and we hope we'll be passing through there again. The home is also a bed and breakfast so they only serve the lunch buffet for the public. My family & I made plans to meet my sister and my 93-year-old mother at The Coleman House for Easter brunch. We live in Hartwell, GA and my mother lives in Alma. We were looking for a place that was an easy drive for my mother and sister, & about 1/2 way between for us, to celebrate Easter together. I googled a map of the trip for both parties, but in our trip map failed to include swinging by to pick up my son in Athens. I UNDER-ESTIMATED our travel time by more than an hour. My mother and sister arrived right on time, then called us when they realized we had not arrived yet. My sister explained our dilemna to the hostess at The Coleman House and then called me back to say that the hostess said they usually closed by 3 p.m. I knew then that we would not make it and suggested my sister and mom go ahead and eat. We would just visit with them at a fast food restaurant nearby ( I had not been able to see either of them since Thanksgiving and that had really been the main point of the plan). When we finally arrived, we oogled the beautiful old Victorian for a few minutes and then walked onto the historic home's spacious wraparound porch to meet my sister. Immediately the hostess and her staff waved us in. They had waited to close the buffet for us! Was I surprised. And my son, who works in the hospitality industry, was flabbergasted! He says when closing time comes, most wait and service staff are ready to run out the door (especially on a holiday) or they get a real bad attitude. But these servers were friendly and helpful. And although the tables were all closed down, they fixed us hefty to-go plates, including drinks, desserts and salads, and then allowed us to eat on the porch together. No one rushed us and we ate and visited for quite sometime. The food was beyond excellent - the best fried chicken this southern girl has ever had (And I KNOW my fried chicken) cut into eatable pieces, not supersized breasts that never get done all the way through. There was even a "pully bone" that I shared with my mom, a real treat. Everything else was equally heavenly. The greens, especially, were to die for and my husband gobbled the great rolls. All in all, it turned out to be one of the best dining experiences we have ever had, especially on a holiday, when most restaurants are filled past capacity and the service becomes horrible. My sister and mom had enjoyed their dinner sitting down and watching the over-flow of after churchers in their Easter finery and without being hurried while they waited for us. It was all so perfect. My sister and I have decided that this is where we will meet whenever she comes to my Mom's and my husband wants to go back to enjoy a weekend for "just us two" at the Bed and Breakfast. It was just an excellent experience and I recommend it highly. No one should miss a Coleman House buffet when they are traveling in the area. Especially if they love Southern cooking.
