My first time walking into BBB was the same week I moved to New Hampshire... "Do you have any other glassware? I just moved here from Cali and only own two coffee mugs at the moment." "Two mugs?! Sh*t! Call the Red Cross! You can have this one for free!" Since then, Bert's was my own craft beer oasis in the granite state and I was a loyal customer, often visiting twice a month and sometimes even twice a week (don't let my low check-in count fool you). Staff here were top notch. Though familiar with the most popular brews from the North East, my knowledge of the New Hampshire craft beer scene was paltry at best due to the low demand for such beers in trading forums. Staff at Bert's always demonstrated an eagerness to help me out and knowledge of local breweries, even inquiring about my preferred styles and flavor profiles and then compiling a list of beers they thought I would enjoy! And they weren't beer snobs either. Just good folks who enjoy drinking. Anyway, the selection at Bert's is pretty solid and there is a nice mix of local brews, east coast beers, a few west coast beers, local mead, and local hard cider. I recommend checking out the following: -Southern Tier: They are from NY. The seasonal stuff is pretty good. Right now they should have a pumpkin beer available called "Pumpking" and that is hands down my favorite pumpkin beer. Buy a couple bottles. Drink one now and save one for later when Southern Tier comes out with "Creme Brûlée." Mix those two and you will get what tastes like vanilla pumpkin pie. -Brooklyn Brewery: Their regular stuff is unimpressive but some of the seasonals and large bottles are worth trying. -Maine Brewing Co: Beer from here is much easier to find these days but the beer is quality stuff. Never had a bad beer from them. If you're lucky, Bert will have "Lunch" in stock. -Funky Bow: Also from Maine. Beers are good. IPA lovers will enjoy "G-String" while coffee enthusiasts will be wise to check out "Midnight Special." -Pipeworks: A local brewery. I'm a fan of their IPAs. Bert has fresh crowlers in the cooler and they are all rather affordable. -Moonlight Meadery: Local honey wine. A must try for any mead fan. -Local hard cider in the cooler closest to the front of the store. Very impressive. NH grows some of the best apples I've had and that translates into pretty darn good cider. ___Tips___ -Follow them on twitter! They often announce arrivals on twitter and the most popular bottles will sell out in a matter of hours. I've rushed to Bert's after work on a few occasions just to get a bottle of Canadian Breakfast Stout. So good! -They will also announce tastings. Beer tastings occur on Tuesdays and Fridays. -Bert also ages beers for a few years and puts them on sale from time to time. They will usually be located on a table in the back. I just wanted to say thank you for supplying me with beer during my time in New England. And sorry for bouncing. In typical John B. fashion, I moved somewhere without telling a soul. They do have a wide selection, similar to other craft beer stores in the area, but the prices are outrageously high! First of all, I am a big supporter of local businesses and happily pay a few dollars more at craft beer stores than I would at a grocery store. I was in a rush and stopped in here instead of one of the other independent beer stores I typically go to in Concord. Looking back, the fact that there were no prices listed anywhere should have given me pause. I bought 2, 4-packs: a NEIPA that I buy often and usually pay $16-18 for, and a low-abv radler which typically go for $10-12 at most. The total was $40!!! Again, I would never compare their prices to a grocery store, but they are 30-40% higher than other independent craft beer stores. Being in a rush, I paid an extra $10+ for the convenience, but anyone who thinks these prices are reasonable really needs to check out some other independent craft beer stores. I promise you that Bert's is an outlier; craft beer is not this expensive! read more

They have a great selection of beer, however bert is an jerk! he seems to be inconvenienced to help or to busy to be bothered with questions he was rude to me, my mother and my father in law all on separate occasions for no reason other than for what i can imagine is he just enjoys being an a**hole !!!! , I will never go back and will inform everyone I know to go els where! in the state of our economy i find it hard to believe that someone can act like that when they rely on people for their business. All i can say to all the other reviews is this, keep going back and you will see just how rude he can be i had gone in there many times and had spent on average 60 to 80 dollars a time, i thought that maybe he had a bad day until i heard the stories from other family members! The beer selection is hard to beat. These guys have it all. The only issue I have is with the woman who's been working there the last couple of times I've been in is extremely rude, loud, vulgar, and all around off putting. She's constantly speaking at a volume that is WAY too loud for normal conversation in sort of a "hey everyone, listen to what I have to say even though it's a private conversation" sort of way. She drops a huge amount of profanity which, although not *really* an issue because we're all adults, is pretty over the top and not really called for I think. It just seems like she's constantly putting on this show of "i'm here! pay attention to me!" instead of letting the customers shop, helping when they need it, and just being a normal employee. I have a feeling she's either an owner or related to an owner in some way because her attitude is very elitist and "I don't care what you think about me". Just let me live my life and shop for beer in peace. I don't need your life story shouted across the store. All that being said, the store is great. I'm not about to stop shopping there, but honestly if she keeps it up I might have to go elsewhere. It's very off putting. read more

Best Beer Store in the Queen City Area. Bert's the man! If you're buying from him, you can assure he took careful steps to keep his beer in the best condition possible. They have a super awesome beer selection that is organized by style. Very cool. This ain't like buying bud light at a gas station, though. Be prepared to spend the premium it costs to properly stock your fridge. It's nothing to drop +20 on a variety 6 pack. This is because Bert truly sells better beer- deal with it. Only one word of caution here... If you're some kind of vanilla stout, oak wood aged, craft beer sipping hipster that thinks you can "talk beer" with Bert, you can't. Bert will own you. This guy knows his stuff and has been in the beer game for a long ass time. My boyfriend and I happened upon this place on our way to camping in the White Mountains with the help of Yelp. This place is incredible, and deserves all 5 stars. They have a huge assortment of local beers, and hard to find bombers. You can make your own six pack from a wide array of singles -- most are even already chilled! Still the best place in the Manchester area (if not all of New Hampshire) to get beer. The selection is absolutely incredible, and since they've expanded, it has only gotten more impressive. If you're looking for local flavors, you can certainly find them here (Smuttynose, Woodstock, Squam, White Birch, etc....all of it can be found at Berts). The staff is very knowledgeable...can speak to their selections and provide recommendations. Even if you're not local, Berts is very easy to get to...it is just a minute or so off Exit 9N on 93. We totally stumbled upon this place. Sometimes, it is better to be lucky than good. It all started out a little weird, but ended up being a great experience. It is located about two-thirds of the way down a small strip mall. On Friday night around 9PM, we drove in on our way to the Bear Brook State Park for camping. We were in need of some "provisions" so this seemed like a logical place to stop. The only other business open in the strip mall was a bar, which had a few patrons milling around outside smoking. As the four of us made our way from the car to the beer store, we endured a few cat calls from the male patrons outside the bar, harmless of course. But, apparently if you are up for it - ladies get in for half price! But I move on.... When we walked into Bert's, we immediately knew that we were going to get much better beer than originally planned. Bert came up to each of us, introduced himself, and gave us a brief overview of the store. We each made our own six pack, taking the singles that we desired from the fridges along the left side wall. We probably spent about 20-30 minutes perusing the massive selection of beers and carefully selecting what we each wanted to drink. Each of the beers had a description of the taste along with a chart showing the level of "hoppiness" and alcohol content. My six pack cost $21, though a few of the selections were some of the higher test varieties. It was fair to say most items were between $2 and $4 per bottle. At the check out counter, there were photos of people holding the complimentary carrying cases around the world (south pole is represented). When I mentioned to Bert that I was going to the Olympics in London he was very interested in having our group take a picture and send it along to him as he is a huge fan of the Olympic Games. I am hopeful that I remember to pack the blue carrying case so I can fulfill the request. Overall, this was a wonderful shopping experience. I sampled some new beers that I had never tried before. I always consider that a WIN! I have NO complaints or constructive criticism of this place. read more

My boyfriend and I were looking for a liquor store that offered unique microbrews and a greater variety than the supermarket. After a quick search on his phone we found Bert's and plugged it into our GPS. Bert's is about 15 minutes (or less) from downtown Manchester. Definitely worth the trip for their variety and expertise. Bert himself was helping around the shop and greeting customers with a friendly smile. Bert mentioned that he has tried every beer in the store so if we had any questions whatsoever he could definitely help us out. He was extremely helpful and knowledgable. It was nice to see the owner taking such a hand on approach with his business. We were pleasantly surprised by the selection of hard to find seasonal brews and beers that seemed new and interesting to us. We both packed up a mix & match 6-pack. A little on the pricy side but if you're looking to try a couple different beers without being forced to buy a 6-pack this is the place to go. I was also thrilled to find the Sam Adams Millennium champagne-beer called Infinium. I purchased to at $19.95 (which is the lowest price I've seen around). I'd say it's definitely worth checking out even if you don't end up purchasing! Browsing is fun too! read more

A craft beer lover's dream. Bert's Better Beers has it all. They stock all the best New Hampshire beers, along with a wide selection of national stuff. On top of that they also carry a large collection of vintage beers from years past, aged perfectly in a cold dark cooler. These guys are absolute pros when it comes to beer. The staff could not be nicer or more helpful. I stopped on my way up north to ski this past winter. I asked the staff's recommendation for NH beers and everything they pointed me towards was delicious. And they also sold me a ton of vintage gems for my own beer cellar. I come here regularly to pick up brews for friends and co-workers, all with varied (and complex) palates. Let's just put it this way, if there is anything you need, this place has it. The tiny bottles of white Duvel I can only find here, English lagers (Wells and Bodingtons), and IPAs in big bottles pretty much covers standard purchases. I have been surprised by some of the new bottles of 11%+ ABV craft beers. I will have to pick those up next time I visit. read more

Fantastic selection for a beer shoppe in the middle of nowhere. We stopped here on the way back from the White Birch Brewery up the road, and Bert's had a selection of White Birch beer that rivaled White Birch's! Their selection also rivaled that of many comparably well-stocked beer purveyors elsewhere. Many rare, hard to obtain, obscure, and vintage items. You should come knowing what you want. But even if you don't, the staff is friendly and knowledgable and will join you in your over-enthusiastic beer geekery--they did mine, anyway! I don't know why you would ever go to Hooksett on purpose if you weren't already from there, but a White Birch/Bert's trip definitely made sense to me. read more

Hands down this is the best beer store I have found in Southern NH. There is a very varied selection of both US and Imported craft beers on shelves and in coolers. Bert's is one of the few stores I have been to that makes putting together a mixed 6-pack very easy. What puts making these 6-packs even better is that their fridge is set up for singles so you can put together COLD 6-packs (a very rare treat indeed). The gentleman working was extremely nice and willing to offer suggestions for beers to try but wasn't pushy at all like some places can be, I got to browse around and take it all in, which helps make it a relaxing experience. When I went I purchased a number of larger bottles and was surprised to be given a re-usable bottle bag that would hold 6 larger bottles free. This was a nice touch because when I do go back I will bring it with me and in the mean time I have used it at least a dozen times. I would highly recommend this store to anyone who is looking for good beer or would like to learn more through the mixed 6-packs. read more

This place is awesome. The beer selection is the best I've ever seen in NH and the make your own 6 pack is a great way to try new beers without having to commit to a whole 6 pack of a beer you've never tried before. The owners are very knowledgeable and laid back. They encourage you to mix and match your 6 packs, and actively encourage breaking up 6ers in the fridge. It's sort of overwhelming the first time you go because of all the choices but i recommend making a 6 pack of beers you've never heard of before and have a beer adventure. I was expecting to pay more money since it's a specialty store, but the price for a 12pack of Blue Moon was actually cheaper at Berts than at the grocery store! All the beers (at least the ones in the fridge) are clearly labled by color, type, hops content etc., making it easy to pick out the beer you're in the mood for. I intend to go here whenever I'm getting beers for a party or just relaxing with friends. read more

I spent the first five minutes in this shop walking around aimlessly like a child in the worlds best toy shop, I didn't know where to start! This place has a great assortment and variety that has no equal. The owner was prompt in walking up and introducing himself and asking if I needed any assistance. The owner is super nice and friendly. I made my own six-pack and sampled beer from all around the world, the kinds of beer that grocery stores just don't stock. You will pay a dime or so more than you can sometimes find at the local groceries, but its way worth it for the selection and supporting a local small business. Very overrated. Decent selection of craft beers. But way too many IPA's and since I am not a fan of IPA's, I didn't have a great selection to choose from. The staff is not very helpful. I asked about some stouts and was met with indifference. They made me feel like I was annoying them with my questions. I'm spending money in their place, and they treat me like I am a nuisance? Is that any way to run a business? There was some guy in a kilt walking around the store doing nothing but getting in the way. I hope he wasn't Bert. If he was Bert, then you can learn from him by just looking at how he carries himself in the store. A good example of how not to treat your customers while running a business. Bert's is not the only store in town specializing in craft beers. I will spend my money in those stores before I ever give another penny to Bert. read more

I've given this store several chances. After my first visit when a clerk was borderline rude to me I was still willing to try again. Maybe it was a simple difference in personalities and I misunderstood. My second visit was uneventful. I knew what I wanted and was in and out in a matter of a few minutes. My third visit was somewhat disturbing. I was greeted and asked if I needed help. I asked for a specific beer and was shown where it was. The product on the shelf was part of a recall due to the batch being infected. The brewer recalled the beer in good faith and changed the packaging so they could be sure that all infected beers would be sent back. Not only did they not return the infected beer but they claimed no knowledge of the recall. I purchased something else instead. My last visit (and I mean last) was something else entirely. When I walked in I was struck by a virtual wall of body odor. I thought about walking out but I didn't have time to visit another store that day. I looked around a bit for a specific beer but couldn't find it. I searched for about 5-10 minutes for something else all the time trying to shake off the smell. I was never greeted. I passed closely by the only other customer in the store while I was looking around and the smell was certainly not coming from him. While searching for what to buy I saw they were still trying to sell the infected beer I had seen months ago. I brought my purchase to the counter and the clerk came to ring me up. The smell was coming from the clerk. I paid and left. The service, the commitment to quality and the staff's hygiene are all substandard. I won't be returning. Updating because apparently my review was filtered due to it being my first. This seems like a very suspect practice that could chase away potentially great reviewers who have done nothing to warrant being filtered out. In my opinion it's a bad idea. read more
