Our TV was working fine, then I shut it off to eat dinner, and then it wouldn't turn back on! We troubleshooted possible issues for over an hour, and came to the conclusion that it was a goner. Buying a new TV ... gosh, where to start? It's been a long time, and TV's have certainly changed! I did some research and spoke to a family member, who advised me to buy 4K resolution, with a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a minimum of three HDMI ports. In addition, smart TVs are the way to go. We went to this stand-alone location because it was the largest. We've purchased many big-ticket items from here before, but it took a long time to flag down a "blue shirt" employee. After discussing several options, the TV that we chose wasn't available! Oh my! I had a good experience at Best Buy today. It may sound shocking, but it's true! A decade ago, I worked in Scarborough. I used to hang around this area often. This Best Buy wasn't built just yet. I have only been here a handful of times. The last time was simply waiting for my driving instructor to pick me up for my lesson. I was learning how to drive a manual car and we met at this parking lot a couple of years ago. I normally visit the Best Buy in Markham, as it's slightly closer to my home than this one. However, the item that I had reserved was not available there. It was at this location. I reserved my item last night. I got a confirmation by e-mail fifteen minutes later. I went to pick it up this morning at around 11:15 am. This Best Buy is beautiful since I last stepped foot. I was greeted by an enthusiastic man. Everything looked slick and well-organized. I stopped by the smartwatch section and was pleased to see a decent selection of both hybrid smartwatches and pure smartwatches. The order pick-up area is at the back of the store, on the left when you first walk in. A woman was there to take my name and asked what I was picking up. I indicated that it was a DVD collection. She found it, I paid, and I walked out the door. My transaction took two minutes at the most. I was pleased. I like fast, accurate, efficient transactions. On my way out, I got a little bag for my purchase. The friendly man wished me a good day. I reciprocated. The downside is that if you are driving eastbound along Progress Avenue, there is no left turn lane to get directly into the parking lot. You either need to go a bit further and make a u-turn, or go into Walmart and come back out. I did the latter and was good. It was nice visiting a modern Best Buy. I can't believe this place! I was waiting for help to purchase a Pioneer receiver that was on sale there, all I wanted was the receiver in a box and I would walk to the cash and pay! Instead I waited for 15 minutes, no one shows up. Then a family shows up, and low and behold, two salesmen appear and start helping them! I walked right beside these same salesmen earlier and they didn't even care! The audacity! I strongly believe I was racially profiled and a subject of discrimination!! I am cancelling my Best Buy card and WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN! If I could give negative stars I would! read more

I think this location is okay; it's in one of the corners of the Scarborough Town Centre (STC) parking lot and can be a little tricky to get to on foot from inside STC. If in STC, exiting from Walmart will put you in front of Best Buy. I tried to use their reserve a product function on their website, and the product wasn't put aside for me. It seemed like there was only one person responsible for setting product aside for customers who'd make the request online. That seems silly. With a good reservation system duplicate products being set aside can be avoided, and more people can help with the process. When I was in the store I was asked if I needed help a couple of times, and I appreciated that they were aware of customers around them that were waiting to be helped. If I want help with computing I'd be better off going to one of the speciality stores around Scarborough. read more

My old laptop developed a critical hardware problem and had to be replaced. I went to Best Buy on Progress Avenue and ordered a new laptop from a salesperson named Danielle. She assured me that the Geek Squad could do a setup and data transfer while I waited as soon as the laptop was in. There was no way to make an appointment with the Geek Squad but I was told this wouldn't be a problem. I was travelling on business and needed the laptop for my trip so this was a selling feature. But it wasn't true. When we arrived at the Geek Squad desk they told me I'd have to leave both laptops with them and that they couldn't guarantee the work could be done in time for my trip, which was in 2 days. They were overbooked and understaffed. I left without having the work completed and have to hope that my old laptop will make it through my trip without failing. Recommendations - 1: Put in an appointment system for the Geek Squad so that your customers know when they can have service done. 2: Advise your sales associates not to misrepresent the truth in the interest of getting a sale. read more

First time I came in to buy a laptop, I already knew which one I wanted but unfortunately took an hour and half to get an employee to get it for me and spent half hour in line to pay for it.. I returned to switch laptops as I have warranty and the keyboard stopped working. I was told takes 3hours for them to put everything on the new laptop. Told me to be here after 8pm.. I came 830pm it's now 9:10pm still not finished. Very disappointed with service here.. read more

One of the largest Best Buys I have been to. Staff are good and helpful. They are not on commission, so you could trust in their value. I bought 5 computers from them and they were nice enough to tell me I could only buy extended warranty for one of them and that would probably be enough to protect all 5 computers and saved me lots. The value of merchandise is great and they have most of the electronics in stuck. Good place to shop for computers. read more

We purchased and prepaid for my NEW ( ALL IN ONE ) TOUCH 23" HP Computer and they morning it was scheduled to be delivered, they only brought one piece of the 5 items that I purchased at the Scarborough, Town Centre ( BEST BUU ) store. We both explained to the person that was going to set everything for me but lack of bringing the proper items that I purchased at the Progress Ave., Store? I paid over $1,000 and top of everything, 4-year warranty also. Selection is plentiful, and products are decently priced. There are plenty of employees around, so I've always been able to find assistance whenever I needed it. I was here yesterday between 7pm to 8pm on a Wednesday looking for a tablet on sale which was said to be in stock on their website. I must have wandered around the store looking for an available employee for at least 15 minutes because I needed help and could not find the product. There store was not busy but no one greeted me or asked me if I needed assistance. It was so frustrating as I was waiting for one employee who seemed to be chatting with the same customer forever. Then next employee who I finally found and asked took his sweet time to return and tell me that the product was unavailable. He was slightly helpful for mentioning that there were 2 opened boxed items at another store. But I wasted at least 45 minutes here when I knew specifically what I wanted, so the service was lagging on this particular day. I have been to the store in the past for things like boxing day sales and to pick up stuff. It is convenient to get to by using highway 401, but sometimes sale items are sold out. The customer service depends on the employees who are working I guess since it varies. Some employees might also try to upsell extended warranties that are sometimes pointless. My credit card company doubles the manufacturer's warranty for up to an additional year on certain products. I did in fact make a successful claim once on a computer monitor through my credit card company after declining the Best Buy extended warranty and when it failed after the original warranty had expired. Just keep in mind that you need to hold on to the receipt and credit card statement. read more

I hope bestbuy reads this. I really do. The location is as bad as their customer service.I usually don't care. I've got money and they have a product and there should be no in between I figure but yesterday I was very angry. Where to start. I've been going there for years and usually it's excellent. I go in and out without any problems. So where to begin.. ok so I went on December 28th and was after a boxing day sale on Norton and so I bring what I thought was the right one to the counter as I figured I'd rather pay with cash. I go there, try to find it in the store which no one approached me to give me any sort of help. Nothing but indians working the floor, all they did was talk to their co-workers. After 5 or so minutes as I haven't been to bestbuy in a while and it looks like they changed the store layout subtly as I remember Norton being right out in the open in one of those displays I thought I found it as there is a few new kinds of Norton available that I didn't know of. I thought it was just "antivirus, internet security and 360" without going corporate or small business. So I bring it up to the counter and I get served BUT, now this is my favorite part. Want to know why this gets a 1 star this is it. This short skinny middle eastern or indian girl around 12:30pm on December 28th near the door (there was 2 cashiers and the other looked kind of fat I didnt look for a name tag). I'm mentioning this because it's important. She scans the Norton and says oh that will be 180$ which I had no idea there was Norton for that much. I explained I bought the wrong one and she just says oh. Her english seemed fine. No accent like she was fresh off a plane... she just says oh in a quiet voice., didn't offer to get me the right one, didn't buzz anyone. NOPE just went on her f****ing cellphone. Some people have the hardest time finding a job and I swear she just got the job because of her ethnicity. I advise Bestbuys higher ups to fire the manager at the one outside of Scarborough town center. I can imagine after christmas we're all a little tired but that is no excuse. The people allowing applicants to get a job there is also to blame. I ended up buying Norton online so that little franchise doesn't touch my money. I will only go there if I'm absolutely desperate for a product. I hope walmart makes that bestbuy go out of business and they have to move. They are renovating and getting bigger so look out. So ok that, the staff doesn't care. We've established that. They sell electric guitars too and some of them are missing small pieces and some have strings broken off of them and they just hang from the guitars so they can get scratched and end up being returned to the companies and or sold as B-stock simply because Bestbuy isn't the place to sell guitars. I can wager 100$ that none of them know what standard tuning is, how to replace a string and or tune a guitar. A quality guitar they have to tune them every 2-4 weeks. One fender acoustic guitar needed a trussrod adjustment badly too, otherwise unfretted notes (where you press down with your fingers) buzzed like a hornets nest. Doubt it was a warped neck and kudos to bestbuy if it was. So seriously bestbuy stick to dvds, cameras and crap guitars aren't for that location. Go on kijiji and buy used guitars some people really take pride in what they sell. That and for guitar strings "stringsandbeyond.com" I highly recommend. **update** so my neighbor wanted a printer and I had to go back to this "crap hole". I walked around twice on a not so busy Wednesday afternoon and I had to walk around the really bad smelling store twice before someone finally helped me. Just close the damn place down if you don't want to hire employees to service people. This is why target and zellers went under oh and buy some febreeze. I never liked their customer service but I was stuck with them due to their screw-up which left me with over 2000 dollars in giftcard credit. sales manager was extremely rude, let alone knowledgeable to the their pricematch policy. All the other location offers price-match except this location and when you ask why, the sales manager simply replies 'buy geeksquad or other product with the purchase and we will consider the price match'. What is this? Why would I wanna purchase geeksquad when you don't even know the difference between 15-inch retina vs. regular mac pro? I made formal complaint to the head office. All I will say is that I will never shop at bestbuy again. I would have never gone there in the first place if I did not have over 2000 dollars in gift-card credit because they screwed up initially and given me with 15 inch regular macbook pro thinking it was retina display. read more

This is a review only for the Geek Squad at the Scarborough Best Buy location: I use for my business a powerful desktop, it is a vital part of my daily operations. After a crash while updating the OS, I decided to call for "at location" service but this service was unavailable until 5 business days after; I decided then to bring in my equipment to this Scaborough best buy/geek squad location. I was told by the agent that he would have a diagnostic for repair by the end of their working day (9pm) but that didn't happen. It actually took them 3 business days to have a diagnostic for me! Apparently -and their excuse was- they they were too busy dealing with the clients and advising sales. In one of my visits to find out the stauts of the diagnostic, one of the agents made me wait for 1 hour because he had to sell and install an ipad screen protector!! (and I was sure that the geek squad agents were focused on equipment repairs and optmization, but looks like they are more occupied in selling stuff) After finding out that "probaly" my HDD had failed and there were "probably" memory errors, I was offered the worst possible solution. Am I not an experienced technician, but this did not add in my math: - swap my damaged enterprise-class 10000rpm HDD for an overpriced 5200rpm (HDD widely used in laptops) they had in stock I was so upset by this suggestion, that I went to find the HDD myself. I purchased and brought it in for clonning in less than 1 hour so they get a feel for my sense of urgency on this repair. I was told this process would take few hours and that I'll be informed once finished. Of course no one called me, so I walked in they day after and one of the agents told me -again- that they were too busy, and the he hasn't had a chance to review the info because of the lack of the pasword.That's odd because I provided it and it's was written on the work order. anyway, after finally accesing the equipment I noticed that only 2gb of the 6gb of ram were being used by the OS, the agent gave me a watery explanation and offered for me to buy additional memory (that was not compatible anyway and terribly overpriced) I just got my equipment and got the hell out of there. - Pros: They do an amazing job at promoting themselves as proffesionals and customer oriented. - Cons: Agents have no sense of urgency, agents push too much for sales (warranties, equipment and software), there is no accountability, there is no coordination among agents, there is a clear lack of organization and communication, there are no specialized agents for hi-end equipment. The attitude towards clients asking for job updates is poor to offensive, the overall client support is poor, their solutions to problems is unadequate. read more
