Bought an Acer laptop from here in August, a few weeks ago the hard drive crashed. I called Acer and they told me the HD was probably defective and to UPS to laptop back to them, I inquired about shipping costs (from Toronto to Mississauga) and it was going to be $45. So I took it back to Best Buy thinking they would be able to send it back to Acer rather than me shelling out $45 for shipping for a barely 4 month old laptop. Initially both the Geek Squad and the Customer Service desk refused to help me. They basically told me since I didn't buy their "protection plan (extended warranty)" I was on my own to deal with the manufacturer. Eventually I spoke to the store manager on duty and told him that I would 100% never buy a single product from Best Buy ever again if they didn't stand behind their product and send this back to Acer for me, that other electronics retailers wouldn't tell me I was "on your own" for a product still under warranty. Anyways, that is what it took for him to buckle and he got the "Geek Squad" to send out the laptop to Acer for me. I got it back very quickly from Acer as they just replaced the hard-drive. Not sure how exactly to rate this. While they did step up after my threat to never shop there again and they helped me out, and it did save me the hassle of dealing with the manufacturer directly, it still was a bit unpleasant to have to fight with them over this. just be warned that if you don't buy the extra warranty, don't expect to bring your problematic device back to Best Buy and them to help you out. If you are outside of the return policy and didn't buy their extra warranty but still within the manufacturer warranty period, go back to Best Buy and try and talk to an actual store manager. read more

Yay for efficient service! Purchased two items online, but had to return them. When I called their toll-free number, I was told that some items have a 14 day return policy, whereas other items have a 30 day policy. Service over the general Best Buy line was okay/good. Service in person... was soo good. Lillian? made the return pain-free, which is great since we had a couple of errands to run that night. The line-up on the Friday night, wasn't bad at all. Factor in two customer care representatives, and it was no time before our turn was up. The rep on the phone cautioned me for a worse-case scenario, that maybe we'll be hassled to return an item since it was literally at 15 days. No such thing happened in person. My electronic device was still sealed in the Canada Post bubble pack. They had to open it there. The return, could not have been more smooth. I only wish they were located closer to home. Nonetheless, a positive shopping/return experience means that I'll definitely be interested in shopping with Best Buy again. Not to mention that their deal beat the other ones that I compared their prices and value to. read more

Each and every time I've been to the Eaton Centre location, I have had a bad experience. Substandard customer service, and very very rude employees (which I take as a direct reflection of poor training and management). Also, they are constantly out of stock on peripherals, and when you ask them to restock it, they will sarcastically tell you to either go to one of their competitors - such as The Source or Canada Computers - or go home and order it online from Amazon (for real!!!). Concerning their online purchase remark: what if I can't? What if I don't have a credit card? What if I need the product immediately, and don't have the time to have it delivered? What if I don't want to deal with Canada Post's deficient service? What if I want convenience? What is the purpose of a brick and mortar store? read more

A big location downtown Toronto (Bay and Dundas). Just steps way from its sister brand, Futureshop. I find this location to be better spaced than the Futureshop a block away. It almost feels like a location that can be found in the suburbs rather than a downtown store which generally lacks the square footage. Prices can be cheaper online at other retailers but staff will generally price match. Staff here are easy to spot in their famous blue polo's. You will have to take local transit (subway nearby) or walk your goods home unless you want to pay the expensive downtown parking fees. Happy shopping! read more

incredibly uninformative salespersons that will leave out or say anything to make the sale. Their replacement plan is, in fact, a refund plan involving sending the item in THE MAIL and receiving a refund in the form of a e-gift card. Not of the amount required to purchase the item new, but of the price you paid at the time. So if the price for the xbox controller I am trying to replace with this plan goes up by $10 for some strange reason, I am left with nothing more than a simple $25 coupon I paid $6.99 for, and have to mail in to receive it at all. (exact scenario) I asked a lot of questions before buying it and this guy answered all of them incorrectly. I remember because it was the only reason I bought it at all. "How does it work?" "if your controller breaks you just come in and we will exchange for a new controller of the same model" "ooo okay, but what if its no longer in stock?" "then we'd check for it at other stores, and if nothing is available you'd get the next closest model in value." "wow that's pretty good, can I put a replacement plan on the replacement?" "yes!" "oh but if its more expensive by then the plan will be in the new cost tier right?" "yes that's true, but its basically like buying a new controller in advanced for like 1/3 the price!" etc. My complaint is clearly a drop in the bucket but it's obvious BestBuy needs to seriously crack down on their sales staff and their intentionally abusive sales tactics. I wanted to buy a gopro since I was visiting Niagara Falls so I went there. Very good atention but in Canada taxes are SO expensive! It's better to buy in the United States but I had no choice. Manager was very nice he gave me a guarantee for free. What I did not like was that I bought a glass protective screen for my iPhone 6 and they charged me 10 CAN for installation and they installed it wrong. The guy told me the bubbles on the side were going to go away After 24 hrs and they didn't so when I tried to fix it, the glass protection broke! overall I found what I needed! read more

I purchased a PS3 from this store only to arrive home and found it not working. When I returned back to the store to complain how this could happen they informed me that the unit I was returning wasn't from their store and refused a refund or exchange. What a crock of shit! I hate shopping there. When I need to ask a question about a laptop I want to buy, or keyboard, or any computer part, I can't find anybody to ask. One I sat in line to ask a guy from the geek squad, he game me a one-syllable answer and left. I only shop here when I don't have time to go to CanadaComputers. Yesterday I went back to buy a keyboard, the keyboard I chose was not opened on display, and there was no sales guy to ask to open one. The check-out line had like eight people and one cashier, I was in my lunch break and I was late back to work. There are two people that "tried" to help me one was a store "manager" and I was charged for a delivery before I had the delivery odd policy but I thought o.k.....So I placed the delivery to have the TV I bought at this location and I was told I would be charged $100 plus tax ouch! Oh and to top it off I would have to wait 9-10 days to have them take a look at it. Then I asked so if they cannot fix the problem can I get my money back and they didn't even know the answer...and didn't even bother to check! So I negotiated a better price after a lot of convincing and we set a date for it....I was luckily able to trouble shoot my TV issue and fixed it on my own...They gave me a "gift card" which I thought was nice but wait for it....I went back the same day and said I no longer need the delivery I fixed the TV on my own I would like a return of the $62.00 I paid for the non delivery....and I have my receipts for the gift card and all. So the store manager comes in and says where is the gift card? I said I have non idea likely your staff has it I don't and he the store manager was refusing to give me A RETURN ON A DELIVERY I NEVER HAD...Oh and this is THE BEST PART....The "GIFT CARD" was used for the delivery cost so of course it cannot be used again so WHY would it matter if I had it which I didn't the $50. had no value at all! No apologies they made me look like I was a liar and a thief for a $50 GIFT CARD that has no value???? I finally got my money back....What A HORRIBLE ORDEAL! read more

I would NOT recommend that anyone ever shop at this store! I have bought 4 computers at this store and every single one of them had to be returned b/c they did not function properly. Now, I realize that this is probably a problem with the computers rather than the store but, seriously?, 4 computers, all different brands, and I had to return every one (and that is AFTER I had contacted online tech support!). There is a phone no. on your receipt but don't waste your time phoning it b/c it is NEVER, I repeat, NEVER answered!! They must have the volume turned down b/c no EVER answers the phone. What kind of customer service is that? The Geek Squad staff are friendly and helpful but they are always so extremely busy that you have to wait a long time for service. My impression of this store is that the owners just don't care!! Technology is always in high demand (especially with young people) so they can offer sub-par service and you will just have to live with it while they laugh all the way to the bank. This Best Buy is TERRIBLE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. From the terrible layout where anything is impossible to find because of poor signage, zero sight lines, crowded displays and that Google area taking up tons of room, to the workers who work there not paying any attention to you or your needs whatsoever, going there today was a lesson in frustration for me and a total waste of time. They also failed to put signs up ANYWHERE saying that their flyer deals for this week are behind the customer service area and not located on the floor. Which gets me to my ultimate frustration: they put the check out lines and customer service lines TOGETHER IN ONE LINE so while you wait for customer service (which obviously takes more time than just paying for an item), tons of people are pushing past you (in a single file line) to get to the cash register. I'm not really sure how to rate the store as I don't visit electronics stores all that often. I don't even own a TV (which Is why I have so many Yelp reviews). So today in Best Buy, I was a sitting duck. Anybody's game for an easy sell on a Roku 3. I had no idea what a Roku 3 was. My boyfriend mentioned that he wanted one for his birthday so I made a note on my phone and did a brief internet search from which I deduced that It was electronic in nature.. I walked to the middle of the store and waited there for someone to sense my desperation and come to my aid. I mean-- I didn't even know what department to go to. Nobody came. I began to wander, looking for someone in a blue shirt to help me. There was no one. So I went to the Geek Squad counter. Geeks know stuff, right? I sat in front of the man at the counter underneath a sign that said "Need Help?" ME: I need help GEEK: OK, with Geek Squad Stuff or Best Buy stuff? ME: I don't know, the sign said "Need Help?". I need help, so I came here. Can you help me. GEEK: What do you need help with? ME: Roku 3 GEEK: Is it not working? ME: Um.. No. I need to know what it is. GEEK: Oh. Check Home Entertainment. Home Entertainment Department I sit down at yet another counter and a guy comes over. GUY: Hello ME: Hi, I need a Roku 3. Where can I find one? GUY: Hold on, I'll get someone to help you. Momentary pause while Guy gets other guy and explains that I want a Roku 3. OTHER GUY: Ok, Roku 3. over here...(Begins to ask random questions about home entertainment systems as though I have a fucking clue about what I'm purchasing) ME: Uh. It's for my boyfriend. It's a gift. He said Roku 3. Is this it? OTHER GUY (suddenly realizing that he could make a huge sale off me because I have no fucking clue and may purchase non essential accessories) Oh, well, If he wants to hook it up right away, you should get him these cables. ME: He has cables OTHER GUY: But these cables for sure fit the Roku 3. ME: I bet he has the cables at home. OTHER GUY: Maybe not. Don't you want him to be able to use it right away? ME: No, He should be happy that I researched enough about a Roku 3 to know that I could find it in an electronics store and not a bakery. OTHER GUY: (vaguely confused and mildly irritated with my stubbornness and lack of inclination to buy cables) Um. Ok... well if you buy them and they're not the right ones, he can always bring them back. ME: I'm aware of that. Just the Roku 3, please. OHER GUY: (ringing through the purchase) There's also a 3 year protection plan that covers... ME: Are you kidding? in 3 months, he's going to buy something different for the damn TV, I'm not buying a 3 year protection plan! OTHER GUY: (unamused) That will be $135.64, please. So in essence, Best Buy is just the same as any other big box electronic store out there. Lack of good service and pressure to buy upgrades. If the service had been better and friendlier from the getgo, I might have browsed more and been easily talked into buying something else electronic from any of the friendly salespeople. Especially since I have no idea about what a man would want from an electronics store. If I had found a sales person I trusted (She-yeah, in BEST BUY??) I might have gone on a limb, but instead, I bought exactly what I was told and left. read more

I am giving the Eaton Centre location 1 star based on the consistent poor service levels at this location. (Bright orange pylons could do a much better job) There is nothing worse than entering a large store when you are looking for something only to be told, its over there, and when you 'go over there', the product you are looking for is not there. Another problem I have with this location. I was looking for a tablet and asked the salesperson in the some simple questions to which he replied "I am not a technical person', you should google it to get the answer to your question...If you are going buy something in this location, do your research and only come here if the price is right, dealing with a brain dead sales person in this store is like banging your head against the wall. Numerous bad experiences here - every single time! They simply don't care about you. No matter how long the line with one or two people at customer service, there will be a group of 4 people standing at the front door chatting with each other not caring about how long the same line is. I dread coming to this location. I once ordered ahead for pick up and was waiting so long at the customer service it was faster for me to find it in the aisles and bring it to the register. I went to get a Thunderbolt to HDMI cable. Couldn't find it in the Apple section, waited and waited and waited for the one person working in the Apple section to take a break from trying to sell a woman a laptop so I could ask if they had any cables in stock. Waited for about 20 minutes before giving up and asking another employee for help. He got me what I needed in about 30 seconds. YMMV, but I found that unless you actually approach an employee and ask them for help they are not friendly and not at all willing to help you (unless you're willing to spend $$$ on a new Mac laptop, in that case you get all the time and attention you need...) read more

Before going to the store I had checked out their website and familiarized myself with a few different products that I was potentially interested in. After walking around the store for a bit, looking at the different laptops a sales person did approach me. I bought a laptop for $450 - was asked if I wanted to pay a one time fee for $100 for warranty and all service costs. I agreed. Then my credit card started getting billed $23 per month from Geeksquad (which I didn't notice for few months). I called Best Buy - they told me I had to call the store since it was not an online purchase. I called the store: no one ever answers the phone at this store, even if you call at opening. I waited on hold for hours!! So I went in person: they told me I had to contact Geek Squad. I called Geek squad and they said this "sometimes happens" and I had to go back to Best Buy and that I was on a 2 year contract and that if I cancelled it would cost $135. I went back to Best Buy and waited 40 min to speak to a manager that never appeared and finally I had to leave. I called Geek Squad and they said it was now three days later so I would have to pay $240 to cancel. In the end, I gave up after several hours of calling Best Buy and Geeksquad. My receipt doesn't show that I purchased this plan but I cannot get anyone from this company or store to acknowledge their mistake and refund me my money. I called my credit card company and they said they would recommend cancelling the card as my only option since the company and store were both being so unresponsive. This is a complete scam. I will never ever go back to Best Buy. I am out close to $150 for this plan over six months plus the $100 upfront warranty which I doubt they will now honour since I've cancelled the card as the only way to protect myself against further fraudulent charges. read more

If you buy an item on sale, NEVER GET PRODUCT REPLACEMENT!! They changed the policy where instead of bringing in your defective product and getting a new one in store, you have to go through a headache of shipping it out, and getting a gift card to use; AND if you got your item on sale, you get the amount you paid back (if what you want is now regular price, TOO BAD FOR YOU) And they essentially pocket the amount you pay for the product replacement. I really like this location but this situation makes me hate almost all best buys now. read more

I needed a new system drive SSD installed, the O/S restored on the new SSD and the old SSD cleared of the O/S and added to my storage drives. That was done. The rest noted on a detailed sheet was not: All drives changed to GPT, and System Reserve moved from HD RAID 0 to SSD via disconnecting non-system drives and running win repair. I complained to the Manager and he had the Geek, Jose, call me and vigerously argue that GPT can not be put on a drive below 2.2T. No way Jose, Just because MBR has an upper limit does not mean GPT has a lower limit. MBR on less than 2T is convention not a technology limit of GPT. I had to make the changes myself. That one cost me a near $500.00 read more

Very happy with the service at this Best Buy location! Initially, I went in to buy a laptop, but was unconvinced with their selection. Stock was low, and everything I really was in interested in was out of stock. The employees there are very helpful, but in the end, I wasn't able to find an appropriate laptop. I went back a week later eyeing two laptops, an HP and an Acer. I was really undecided on which laptop to buy, so I decided to approach an employee. The first employee I went to speak with told me he was busy and that he would need another 10 minutes before he frees up. Unfortunately, he was the only blue-shirt Best Buy employee working the department (as far as I could tell). I was slowly loosing patience, but was approached by an HP representative with funky tall hair who opted to help me make a decision, and man was I lucky that I ran into him! He asked me a series of questions to see which laptop would be the best fit for me. He went over some of the features of the HP laptop and compared the specs, emphasizing exactly what was most important for me. What really sold the HP for me was the fact that the brand had a very knowledgeable employee interacting with customers in the store. It showed HP really cared and that they would go the extra mile with the customer. I'm satisfied with this Best Buy location. Although it seems that sometimes they are understaffed, you eventually bump into a knowledgeable employee who is more than happy to help you out, and genuinely knows their stuff! I would certainly recommend this location to any of my friends. There's a Future Shop across the street, but as far as I know, they don't have representatives from manufacturers working with customers, and the selling environment is very unfriendly as the employees are commission-based. read more

Best Buy is one of the to-go places for my husband. He's passionate about music and crazy about technology :P However, we came here this time because our sub woofer didn't work properly. It created funny sound. (--") I didn't realize it, but he did. This was the fifth time we needed to fix it. We have five years warranty but it wasn't five years yet. It was a very bad design and they didn't produce this model anymore. This time we asked if Best Buy could do something for us that was better than sending it out to get fixed and waiting to get it back in 1-2 months. It's very ridiculous! The supervisor my husband talked to, looked very tired. I can tell this job is hard because they have to deal with different kinds of problem everyday. He was almost about to send our sub woofer back to the factory to have it fixed but my husband asked him "how many times do we have to send it back and if they have another solution such as getting a new one". Here we go! He mentioned about Best Buy's policy that after four times we could get a new one :) Finally! Thanks Carl! Even though you didn't smile at all. I knew that you have to deal with many customers all day. It was tough and exhausting. We were fine with that as long as you could give us the better solution. Next! We looked for a new sub buffer. Susanna was a person who helped us out. She was nice, friendly, helpful and made us feel more comfortable to talk with. My husband said he saw her before. Maybe she has worked here for few years!? She was good at customer service. She needs a promotion. ^o^ It sounds funny when I say that but I mean it! The sub woofer we found was open box so we got 10% off from the original price. Anyway, Susana told us it was 5% in the beginning but the item was dirty. No one cleaned it at all! They just brought it to the shelf without checking or cleaning the item. We don't really understand why Best Buy doesn't take care of their products. They can make it look new. Then they can sell open box items with a higher price that is close to the original price (as a customer, I don't like more expensive but I don't like junk either). Best Buy needs to pay more attention training their staff and give them more incentive in order to urge their staff to generate more sales. We ended up paying the balance between the old and new items. I think it's better than travelling back and forth ten times before the guarantee expired! 3 stars is for rating the store. Anyway, I hope they will improve their customer service to serve us better and faster! read more

I'm thankful for this location, b/c it's open on most days...(thank goodness it's attached to the eaton centre). It's difficult to find parking, but the staff is really helpful. They are pretty hassle-free as far as returns go. My bf brought home and eye-sore of an air-con unit from here. We tried to keep it, but it kept shutting off - it required a little too much work for my liking. They took it back with no issues within the specified period. read more

its a busy place. they have enough help but its a bit hard to find the right expert on what u r buying. I went there for a vaccum cleaner. all they had stocked was Dyson. which are all very expensive. they dont even have straps to attach to large boxes to help u carry them. when asked... the woman at the foor goes... I can give u tape and plastic bags and u can make it yourself. I mean when u r selling appliances and those that people would want to carry out in their stuff should have something to help them out. read more

We made an appointment for home theater work for June 16 with a 4 hour, 9-1 window. Geek Squad cancelled. The appointment was re-scheduled for today, June 20 with another 4 hour window, 1-5. Geek Squad called at 1:35 and cancelled. Eight hours of our time wasted!!! I could barely hear the guy on the phone but he offered to reschedule for tomorrow. Are you kidding? We took off 4 hours on the 16th for nothing and another 4 hours today for nothing. IF, and that is a BIG IF, we were to reschedule, it would have to be at a specific time: 10 AM for example, but no time windows. GS owes us that at the minimum for the incredible inconvenience they have caused. An "I'm sorry" from the person who called does not suffice nor does it placate. It was insult to injury. Furthermore, if the quality of your work is the same as GS' ability to show up, then we will look elsewhere. We were about to schedule an appointment with Geek Squad to sort out our computer woes, but that would probably be cancelled. Always had great service here. Best place downtown for televisions and video games. Can be hard to reach over the phone but they get very busy. Excellent return policies. If the price drops on a product within 30 days of purchase you can go in with the receipt and they will do a paper return and give you the lower price. read more

TERRIBLE store. I've been shopping all around Toronto downtown core and always used my Gold Visa without problem. But this store refuses to accept Visa! Most likely reason is that either they want only cash (at least for small number of items) or they push for their own store card. They told me they cannot accept my Visa and that is for "my own security". WTF?! How is that I am able to use my Visa when I am shopping online? read more
