I cant say enough about this place! My dog scratches to get out of van when we arrive. He was boarded this past weekend for Mothers' Day. My husband wound up in hospital and they kept him for 2 extra days. I had knee surgery so when I went to pick him up they brought him out to me. He is a 96 lb German Shepherd. I have been using Best Friends for over 3 years. I find the staff very nice and caring. Dee is great with my dog (Duffy) and I love the stay and play. I supply the food and she had allergy pills and they keep it all straight. I also use the grooming. I would give 5 stars to the staff and the premises but on star comes off for corporate. Last year Duffy got kennel cough from the site and it cost me over $100 to get her medication. The entire kennel was infected and I did ask if there would be some compensation, even a free day for our inconvenience but I was told there was nothing corporate was willing to do. Buyer Beware of new ownership as of 12/18! We have been clients for 15 years and have loved our dogs' experiences there. UNTIL THIS WEEK! We use Best Friends 6-7 times a year for long weekends up to 3 weeks at a time. The last 2 times I noticed sloppy procedures at checkin and checkout, but this last time, my dog ( a mini labradoodle) came home injured with a scratched cornea, which was never disclosed at checkout. I saw it on ride home. When I called Brianna, the manager, to complain she said they were overwhelmed in group play and they had a lot of new employees since it's going into the summer season. NOT MY PROBLEM! She said the injury probably happened in group play- Don't you put more employees in with the extra dogs?? We also never got report cards or toys we bought at checkin when we checked him out. In any case we will NEVER be back. It's a sin to see such a wonderful service decline in order to increase revenue in an unhealthy and unsafe manner. Buyer Beware! Ps. I've been taking my pups to Best Friends for grooming and boarding for years now. Our first guy, Dewey, did well and had many friends during his boarding stays, and they always took extra note/care of his special needs and gave him loads of love & attention. Kudos to Jessica for caring for him so well all those years! This time around with our boy Eli (while he hasn't boarded there yet) we're regulars at the grooming salon. We absolutely L-O-V-E Miss Val, and he sees her almost exclusively (although Regina is also very wonderful). Val has taken great care of Eli since he was a little puppy, terrified to have his nails clipped (after a very unfortunate incident at another pet store groomer). She worked with him, soothed him, made him feel safe and as a result, he is always excited to see her...his butt just wiggles away when he arrives! She always "reserves" his regular crate space for him --- to the point that he just jumps right in. She has done so well with him and shown him such care and love, we couldn't imagine anyone else better to care for Eli's needs. This place was horrible! I made a reservation based on a friend's recommendation. When I arrived with my dog I started getting a bad "vibe". After asking a few questions and feeling more bad "vibe" I asked for a tour, there was no way I was leaving my dog at this place! I am quite aggravated with Best Friends of Chadds Ford. Our standard poodle, Lucky stayed here from October 26 through November 4, 2012. Lucky is 20 months old and has been to Best Friends for at least a half dozen stays. Picking up Lucky today, the manager (Dea?) informs us that he bit another dog on the 28th and has been penned up since. This hit us like a ton of bricks. Without sounding too protective (and I do try to be rational), Lucky is the friendliest, happiest, most even tempered, sensitive dog going. The people at Best Friends have often told us that he is one of their favorite clients. We started asking questions. Who was the other dog? We were given one answer, then another. Did the other dog need medical attention? Don't know. What exactly happened? Don't know. Was there a scrap? Don't think so. So Lucky just walked up to the other dog and bit him (her)? Don't know. Then, the million dollar question, why did you not call and tell us? Silence. The manager starts apologizing, but has no answer why. Now, it is important to note that our communication was not solely one way. While we were out of town, we called and asked if everything was ok. We were told, everything is fine, Lucky is happy and playing. And the "report card" we were provided on check-out had no (none, zero) mention of the incident. Of course, we also don't know anything about the other dog, and while we might assume all shots up to date, etc., it has now been a week since the "attack". Perhaps our dog need medical attention &/or preventative care? There were no photos taken and we have no idea what actually happened. We were using Best Friends particularly because they offer "play time" in an open yard with other dogs. If we wanted Lucky alone in a crate all day, he could easily have stayed at home. We will not be going to Best Friends again. I then wrote the President of the company (John Heyder), who kicked my issue to the district manager. This is never a good sign, that an underling is assigned to give an answer. BTW, if you want John Heyder's email, it is "jheyder@bestfriends.net". So the district manager calls me and we discuss the circumstance. She insists Lucky was separated "for his safety". I noted that the central issue was not of the dogs behavior, but the lack of communication. I went on to point out that after our previous stay, Lucky was diagnosed with kennel cough. At that time, we went to the vet and she immediately asked us if Lucky had been at Best Friends. Why, we ask? Oh, she replies, because you are the tenth case seen this week. We called Best Friends to let them know they had a problem. The district manager then exclaims, oh, that was the worst month of her career, it was a terrible epidemic and highly contagious. (What do I care that her job has challenges?) Yes, I reply, BUT NO ONE CALLED US. The DM insists they called all recent clients. At this point I conclude that Best Friends has a significant problem communicating with their clients. I remark so and sign off the call, even though I am offered my next stay for free. Really? Is there a price where it is ok to mistreat my dog? As one positive outcome, we started shopping around for a new kennel. Camp Bow Wow in Newark seems top notch, so much so that they had Lucky stay for a three hour "interview" before accepting him and us as clients. They have cameras throughout the facility, all of which can be viewed via their iPhone app. Impressive and less money too. read more

I'll never use this place again. Here's why: 1. I asked to see where my dog stayed and they took me to a building up front. The girl showing me the kennel was kindly explaining things to me. I finally asked as we're walking out "where's my dog?" The girl says "oh, she's coming." Red Flag! I asked to see where MY dog stayed. Why couldn't I see it? Shady. 2. We've had our dog in kennels plenty of times before and she has never been returned to us in such poor shape. The staff at Best Friends always makes such a fuss when Finn comes thru the door! Finn loves camp and enjoys the new outdoor turf play yard too. The staff always gives me a report of different funny things Finn does through the day. We enjoy pictures, and the videos On FB. The staff at Best Friends are stars! The grooming staff is wonderful too! The always accommodate, Finn goes into camp first and they have his as their last appointment (my request ) and always call me when they are about to dry him so I can come pick him without him going back in camp. I feel very lucky to have Best Friends close to my home. My greyhound, Vashti, requires a lot of TLC - she is an unusually anxious and protective gal.I forewarned the Best Friends' staff about her idiosyncrasies before boarding her the first time, and I was reassured that they have handled dogs with all kinds of personalities. When we arrived, the manager (Jessica) immediately got down on her knees, and purred and spoke quietly into Vashti's ear. Vashti curled her body in such a way that I could tell she was instantly relaxed. Vashti boards at Best Friends exclusively when we are away. She also goes there often for the day just for fun - for 'day care'. She either participates in 'camp' with other dogs or has an individual day that includes 1x1 playtime with an enthusiastic staff member. Vashti is always excited when we arrive at Best Friends for her visits - and comes home tired, happy and healthy from having a day (or days) that include lots of exercise and generous loving attention. read more

Staying = yes! Grooming = no. We are very pleased w Best Friends at Chadds Ford. Our dog goes 2-3 days per week for day camp, and occasionally for an overnight stay. If my dog were uncomfortable there, he would not be so excited when we drive to the place. Our 2 year old male dog is very active, and they seem to be able to manage him well and in a humane manner. Clearly, some of the staff are better than others, but that is the case at any business. I give them only 4 stars because once they did not follow our instructions for grooming. Our dog is terrified of anyone touching his feet, and he game back once with clipped nails. He was traumatized, and so were we. So now, we totally skip grooming as the notes do not seem to get transferred to their grooming staff. There is some kind of deal if you book grooming on their pick up day, but we skip that and pay full price because we no longer trust the grooming staff. read more

So I don't know where to start.... I boarded my two dogs here because me and my family planned a family trip. My dogs was there from 7/10/22-7/17/22, my older dog is more out going and my younger dog is more timid, scared, skittish. After leaving them there and we was on our way in travels I would call every other day to check on both of the dogs and always got a good report. Moving forward it's the day of pick up so I call to check in to let them know we'll be there to pick them up once our flight lands, so the groomer informed me via voicemail that my youngest dog wouldn't allow her to wash his face and he was aggressive which doesn't sound like my youngest dog at all....not saying it didn't happen but that's not like him. So we was running late, and my husband called to let them know, and was left on hold for 5 minutes so they called my phone back asking if we would like to extend the stay...which we said no we got there 10 minutes before the establishment closed. Once we see the dogs they was excited to see us, but my youngest dog looked extremely stressed and he also came out looking like his fur was moussed it was still somewhat damp. So I proceeded to inspect him, and I could tell they sprayed or moussed his fur with a deodorizer but he was never washed and we was told he was washed and charged for the service. So in further inspection of our dog, me and I my husband could see a scar between our youngest dog hind leg and his testicles, so my husband lifted his legs and it's pus and scabs in between his leg with bugs in his fur that I thought was fleas but it was a bunch of gnats. So I thought I could just wipe him but when we went to wipe him he cried so loud when we went too far between his legs. And this is something they knew and this is why he so called was "aggressive" because of the wound . My other dog was washed and clean but not my youngest dog. My oldest dog came from the back with a runny nose and my youngest came from the back with a snotty nose I've never seen anything like this in a dog in my life, me and my husband suspected that it was allergies, but with further inspection and days later it's not allergies, they have kennel cough. The pictures of my youngest dog's hind quarters are too graphic to post but it's sad. Leave your dogs or cats here with caution be aware. Me and my husband should of did more research on this faculty, before we sent our dogs there. I wouldn't recommend sending any animal there for any services. read more

Not even deserving of a star!!!! Left my dog here for the daycare as I was traveling for work. I check the webcam to find the man who seems to do afternoon shift tormenting the dogs. He squirted water at one dogs rear for no reason, just to be immature and watch him run away with tail between the legs. I also saw him on a separate occasion yelling at the dogs yanking them by the collar and hiring a water on to make them scared. My dog was laying on the ground minding his own business and he squirted him. I think that is abuse and now I know why my dog is afraid of water all of a sudden. Very distraught read more

I spent a lot of time looking for a good kennel for my awesome dog, and I found the place - Best Friends. The staff here really loves dogs - which you'd think would be a requirement, but isn't always so. The facilities are really cool - each dog gets his own inside and outside pen area. Play times and doggy day care are available for an extra fee. I looked at a few places in Philly, and honestly was a bit creeped out by some of the facilities and staff. This place just beats them out. It's pretty close to the airport, so it works for dropping off the pooch before a flight, and being able to pick him up right after I'm back. read more

This review is for daycare. To put it simply, my dog developed car sickness and severe anxiety after I started taking her here. I stopped taking her after a few months because it was no longer worth being puked on in the morning. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but a month after I stopped dropping her off, her car sickness and anxiety stopped. To this day, I can't drive down Naamans Road without her shaking. The "report card" they give you is bogus and generic. I called to check on her throughout the day and it was the same thing. "She's great and seems very happy." That was a lie. Also, I recommend taking a tour before leaving your dog. I had a bad feeling about it while they were showing me around and I wish I hadn't ignored it. The dogs looked scared and it wasn't exactly what I would call "clean". It was like they put the dogs in the cage and forgot about them. My dog held her bladder for about 6 hours until we got home. The other dogs I saw while taking a tour had gone to the bathroom in their run. It made me think they were not taking them out as much as they tell you. read more

Best Friends Pet Hotel is the only place I use for my pit mix, Sienna. We typically see Regina but have been happy with whoever was available that day. I am not the best at making appointments ahead of time and they always accommodate me, even if they are busy. They do a thorough job including cleaning her anal glands and always let me assist them in cutting Sienna's nails since she hates it and moves like crazy. Everyone is so friendly and I trust leaving my baby girl there for a few hours for her spa day ;) read more

We have been bringing our beagle/hound mix to Best Friends for the past few months. The staff is extremely friendly and loving of the dogs that are brought in, and it is clear they are trained to manage them properly. Simply put, my dog cannot wait to get out the door in the morning of a doggy daycare day (we take him about twice a week). We can't even say "daycare" without him getting excited and running over to his leash. The exercise and socialization with the other dogs is a huge benefit. Checking the webcam a few times throughout the day, all of the dogs have plenty of room to find their own space if they don't feel like playing. We've used Best Friends twice now and both times I was extremely pleased. I took a tour of the facility before we first used them. I was very impressed with how clean and organized everything was. The staff were all very friendly and watched my dog while I took the tour. The first visit our dog was there for 2 weeks while we were in Italy. We used the stay-and-play option every other day so she could get some exercise. I was thrilled when halfway through our trip I got a picture of her playing outside with the other dogs. I also got a picture the second time when she did the stay-and-play for a long weekend. Both times it really made me happy to see my baby. Again, the staff is very friendly and helpful. They are always sad to see my dog go - which I'm sure they tell everyone, but it still makes me feel like they paid attention to her while she was there. They also give you a report card of how her stay was at the end which is a cute touch. Prices are pretty reasonable and seemed comparable to others in the area from what I found. read more

First off, I was put on hold for 15 min & 13 sec before I hung up and called back only to be told they were extremely busy (aka understaffed). We have used Best Friends Chadds Ford for 9 years up UNTIL NOW and quite frankly, even for the past year, we have been reluctant to use them due to their outrageous rates and level of customer service. Today, I called with 24 hours notice to cancel our 3 day boarding reservation and they told me I will lose my $100 deposit due to not meeting their 72 hour cancellation policy. I even asked to speak with the manager (Brianna) who was reluctant to bend on this policy. I can understand why there are policies in place but we have been loyal customers for 9 years and this is the very first time we have ever had to cancel a reservation and we had good reason to do so. One would think Best Friends would allow, in good will to their loyal clients, a one-time exception. I told the manager they would be losing us as a client, that I would be blocking the charge and writing a negative review and the MANAGER DID NOT CARE. Unbelievable. BEST FRIENDS HAS LOST US AS A CLIENT. Horrible customer service. read more

My review is strictly for the grooming, as I don't board my dogs. My dogs are big babies so I find it easier for them to stay at home or with a friend. They have been coming here for about 4 years after I left Pet Smart for their lack of admiration for dogs. You can read that review as well. Val is their groomer at Best Friends and she is super sweet and does a great job. Always very happy with the way the kids look when they are done. Val always makes a fuss over them, and quite frankly that is what I expect when you are in the animal business. Pet Smart groomers should take a lesson from Val. read more

We just started using best friends for daycare and boarding. The staff there really loves dogs and are always excited to see Leya! She gets along well with the other dogs at daycare. My dog was attacked there by 2 other dogs a few months ago during daycare. She had to be hospitalized and have surgery. The vet bill was $1600. The owner would not pay anything towards the bill, nor did she take responsibility for what happened. She did get one of the dog owners to pay half of the bill, but I believe as a daycare owner it's your responsibility to help in situations like this. I did find out that there were apparently 17 dogs with one guy watching them, which is totally inappropriate. I didn't sue because I had just started a new job and just didn't want to have that on my plate as well. Needless to say, we have never been back.
