I just had quite possibly the worst order ever here. We ordered a reuben sandwich and pierogies with grilled onions. The corned beef for the reuben was old, not tender or moist in the least. There was maybe 2 tablespoons of sauerkraut on it. The sandwich came to us falling apart. The thing was microwaved with the cheese and sauerkraut on...maybe that's why it was so awful? We had to throw out the bread and eat it with a knife and fork. The pierogies were a joke. They took frozen pierogies out of the freezer and microwaved them. I didn't order it the traditional way, because it was minus the slaw, but I couldn't imagine the size it would have been with that included as well. We kept passing this by every time we would be leaving the casino. My wife always wanted to stop in as she truly loves gyros and this place is right on the way. Last night as we were leaving the casino we finally had the time and decided to stop. I've heard people rave about this place and for the life of me. I can't understand what the heck they're talking about. Upon entering the establishment all I heard was extremely loud rap music. I'm OK with any kind of music, but let's keep it at a level where you can actually hear What the person behind the counter is saying. I figured that if the gyros were good, they can play the music as loud as they want and I'm OK with that. I was greeted by the person behind the counter. Actually, I wasn't greeted. I inconvenienced them with my presence. I ordered a jumbo Gyro and my wife and I were going to share it as my wife doesn't eat very much but she does like good food. I know that I should not reward rudeness, but I did leave a 20% tip. We waited for our Gyro to be made as they are made to order. I was very happy about this as I did not want to get some old dried out Gyro that have been sitting in the back. I was starting to get excited about getting this great gyro. After about 20 minutes, my excitement started to fade. People were walking in ordering their food, getting their food and then walking out. I'm a very patient person and I did not want to rush them so I waited patiently. After a few more people came in, my wife went up to the front And asked if they were working on our order. The woman behind the counter said sit down and wait, Karen. My wife's name is not Karen and I took it as the person was being rude. At this time, my wife started to get upset and since we are not confrontational, we simply left without our food. We paid for a jumbo Gyro and even gave a 20% tip and left without our food. What I did notice about this place was that it was not clean. I was in the military so I'm used to eating food. That's not the cleanest. The cook kept on wiping his nose and scratching himself as he was warming up the Gyro meat. I didn't see his hands touch the meat, but they did touch the pita bread while in there I did go to the bathroom and noticed that the bathroom had several other inhabitants in it being of the roach type. I did not see any roaches behind the counter or near the food, but I'm sure that they probably made their way there a few times. Would I recommend this place? I'm sure that they have great gyros unfortunately, I've never had one. I've paid for one. We've gotten some serious attitude, but have never eaten one. Maybe it's a blessing. Maybe I would've gotten sick if I did. Maybe this was divine intervention. Maybe the person behind the counter who insulted my wife was doing us a favor. Well forward to 2018 in June... back again. I just can't get past the corned beef hash n eggs. It's sooo good! Bf had a Greek salad then a gyro. It's so big he had to eat it with a fork lol!! Is there anything more disturbing that a spiral of lamb spinning on an open-air vertical rotisserie? I realize this is the typical way to cook "Yee-roh" meat, but it still erks the hell out of me. For lunch I threw aside my inhibitions and ordered the Regular Philly Gyro, which consisted of shaved "meat" (a lamb/beef combo?), peppers & onions with a cucumber yogurt sauce served open faced on a grilled pita. The portions were HUGE! There was no feasible way for any normal human to eat this in a sandwich form. (Note to self: the "junior" portion would be plenty next time). The gyro was decent, but not the "best" as the self titled local chain proclaims. It's also worth noting, the store-front in this Northfield location is a renovated Arthur Treachers, so you can imagine the decor is very bland looking. As a matter of fact they have multiple flavors for their gyros like Cajun, bourbon, BBQ, bacon and cheese just to name a few. I've tried a few of the flavors and all have been good but I'm kinda traditionalist and love their regular gyro. Their corned beef is also very tasty. Maybe not the best I've had but better than many delis I've been to. This is a great little hole in the wall place, the building used to house an Arthur Treachers. The only think I think could be better is their tzatziki sauce. Very little cucumber or seasoning taste. Pretty much a lightly flavored sour cream.
