The employees are nice. Priced a little high and During a pandemic, and multiple customers in the store, ALL the employees don't wear their masks properly. They blonde working the register was wearing hers under her chin. Edit: I shouldn't have to ask any employee to wear a mask. We have been doing this for a year and a half now, and you as a business owner should probably train your employees better. Masks being worn wrong by all employees isn't because they failed to notice. It's because of lack of training and consequence for not wearing it the way it's intended. We tried to buy a turtle here. They had one, but Jeremiah agreed to order one that was better for our budget. We placed the order and called back the next week only to find they did not place the order. We asked why and another guy (the owner?) says "because I'd rather sell you the turtle I have" (again, out of our budget). He was completely rude and unreasonable. I asked if he was going to be able to order the turtle, he said, "You're not getting that turtle from this store because I am not ordering it. But if you come back in I'll take 10% off." I've been starting to come to Best-in-Pets more frequently due to their selection of aquatic life. Love the staff; they're knowledgeable and quite helpful and friendly! All of the fish I've seen in the tanks are all healthy and seem quite happy. The fact that they use independent filtration systems for their tanks is a plus. I've been to big name stores where their tanks are on a single filtration system for at least four different tanks or more. So if one tank falls ill, the others end up suffering as well. I have a 40 gallon aquarium that's been populated by fish from their store and they're all healthy and happy! The main reason why I ended up giving four stars is that there are some large fish I've come to see at their store are in tanks that are on the small side. Like a shark I had noticed that was trying to swim around but didn't quite have the room to get itself turned around without bumping a wall in the tank it was in. And a catfish that looked to be a good 2ft that - while alive and well - I've not seen move every time I've gone there. I'm sure it does! Other than those two things I love this store. Every question I've asked has been answered to the best to their knowledge, and are patient. It's always fun to swap stories with the employess, especially fish enthusiasts. read more

They're selling dead and dying bearded dragons, I've seen pigs with ooze dripping out of their eyes and mouth. A friend tried to save the dying lizards they currently have and is now banned from the store. Please do not give this place your business! It needs to be shut down immediately and the owners held accountable for the abuse of innocent lives. They kill these animals to save a few dollars on food and proper cages and lighting. The bearded dragons were literally eating each other, and the pigs were kept on glass enclosures. These people do not care about animals. They only care about profit. read more

This is depressing to write after having spent a lot at this store. I was deeply into fish for years, and bought quite a few products, and even fish from this store. The workers are pretty friendly and nice and all; so that is not the reason for my negative review. The reason is that they have unhealthy animals (mainly focusing on snakes [not to say I haven't seen issues in other animals]). I recently got into Herpetology and I bought a Corn Snake in September. Things with this snake was fairly fine, but recently I got a Ball Python. My Ball Python was aggressive and nervous for weeks. I finally got it into a better controlled environment and saw why it was so aggressive and nervous. It was crawling with MITES. This was nerve racking to me and it spread to my Corn Snake (FYI Provent-a-Mite works wonders). Well, after giving my Ball a Betadine bath for a bit there weren't any mites on it's body (keep in mind you still gotta treat all over your snakes home and everything for months due to eggs). The snake is more placid and friendly now, but I felt "Better call Best in Pets and inform them of this possible issue." I called them and got a disheartening response a girl says "Oh yeah, we have mites all the time, and they aren't a big deal. We have stuff you can buy to get rid of them." This was simply shocking that she said that so nonchalantly. This nonchalant response made me think back to the dead fish that were in the tank with live fish and even half ate/rotted fish in the tank with live fish. There is also the times I saw birds whose feathers were stress pecked out and looking a little raw too. These issues aren't always visible, but I have seen them. And when I went on to a local herpetology group I heard from numerous people there about Best in Pets and sick reptiles and mites. I feel that the owner has lost his passion for these animals and doesn't care about the pain they feel. When I saw my snake sleeping in its water bowl and saw the black specks I knew it hurt it to have them bite it so much. These animals can feel this pain regardless of them not having higher intelligence. Again, I feel pain to leave this review, because I think the staff is nice, and the owner seems like a great guy, but this has left a bad taste in my mouth to know they know their reptiles are infested and they don't think it is a big deal. usually stop in for PAC-Attack for my Pac-Man frog that I purchased from this location. When I first purchased my Pac-Man frog I'm glad I knew the correct husbandry for them because one of the workers tried to tell me to keep it in water and only feed crickets. They need a varied diet and burrow in coco coir, a water bowl should only be provided for soaks. They should not solely be living in water. My Pac-Man is still healthy two years later and I decided to keep stopping here for pac-attack and get live feeders elsewhere. (they are the only local shop that has pac-attack) Today I decided to look around a little and while I have never been impressed with their husbandry (especially when it comes to the reptiles and amphibians), I saw a dead ball python in one of their enclosures which they cohab them in. Pet store or not, why cause unnecessary stress to an animal before it finds its forever home and also visually give people the wrong idea of a basic setup for them! They need humidity and they keep them on aspen with a drying CHE. I was absolutely horrified seeing this poor dead baby, having 6 ball pythons of my own. I alerted a worker and she just said "thank you" and and as I walked back with her she went around back, slid the enclosure open and picked up this stuff, lifeless snake just to throw it in the garbage. SICKENING!! I will never be back here and will just order pac-attack online. Supporting a business that doesn't truly care about its animals and just wants to upsell you & make money will never be worth the convenience. read more

It is extremely unethical to sell underage piglets, and to remove them from their mothers far too early. They are taken from their mothers at this establishment at the age of 3 weeks, advertised as "teacup", and fed in a way that has an extremely high potential for aspiration and pneumonia. All to make a buck. Not only do these people have absolutely NO business breeding pigs, but their education to potential buyers surrounding these creatures is disturbing to say the least. read more

The dogs are all from puppy mills, kept in cages way too small for them, and look poorly taken care of. Puppy mill dogs not only have higher risks for diseases, but also major physical and psychological issues. The dogs live in filth, receive no vet care, attention, affection or exercise, and are killed when they're no longer profitable. The owner is very friendly and runs a small family owned business but he overcharges for his dogs. The dogs are all mixed breeds that he charges $300-$600 for, it's almost worse than Pet Land. Also, the store is so small and cluttered that it is hard to get around most days. read more

Housing reptiles that would never see each other in the wild (bearded dragons with tortoises) the building is ungodly hot all the time. When I have questions about anything the employees are nowhere to be seen or are incredibly rude(smacking dog kennels and screaming for them to shut up) and overall just providing a terrible experience. read more

We have never had any issues & our Angels & silvers are healthy and getting big! We recently purchased 2 small aquariums & will be in tomorrow for fish since the water is acclimated & ready! Came to this store a few times, at first glance I thought it was pretty okay. They have a decent selection of animals and a much wider range of fish products that I wasn't able to find at other big-brand petstores. Second, third, and fourth times around, I wasn't very satisfied. Many of their invertebrates were sluggish and sickly (one of which was a snail, the most active of the handful there, that I purchased out of pity. they barely put enough water in the bag to cover his shell.) They sell fishbowls which is just.....no. Unacceptable for any fish, especially goldfish and bettas. They shouldn't be selling anything above 5 gallons. They clip their birds' wings. That's a bird's main method of getting around, it's just cruel to take that away from them. If they want to sell birds, they should just have them in closed quarters where they can't escape by flying. They get their ferrets from a ferret mill, meaning the ferrets are smaller, sickly, and much more likely to develop serious diseases down the road. Bettas, like the inverts, were very sickly and lethargic. I bought a male, once again out of pity, and since then he has developed various spinal deformities, fin deformities, and a large tumor in his side. Looked at the hamsters and two of them had major bite wounds on their backs. Seemed like nothing was being done to treat them either, they were left there to either get sick and die or be bought by someone else who could treat them instead. They sell mixed puppies at outrageous prices. Honestly? This is just as bad as the standard petshop at the mall. They should really consider holding adoptions for animals from the APL or the local animal shelters (I know love-a-stray in Avon is PACKED with cats, maybe that would be a good place to start.) Again, their selection for pet products isn't so bad. Especially their aquariums and aquarium accessories (besides the bowls and anything of the like.) But seriously, even my local petco takes better care of their animals, and that's saying a LOT considering the rep that most big-name petstores get. I hope that the owner of this store can see the error in their ways and start to turn around. Higher quality store = more loyal customers willing to shop there regularly = more business. read more

I would never ever buy from this place again....most disguting place Ive ever been two bought two russian tortoises I wanted a female they gave me a female the first time and then second time a male as they thought i didnt know the difference, both very sick tortoises and now the tortoise i had for a year and a half just died because they got him sick, i even took him to the vet if anyone is interested in buying a tortoise from them please dont they are very sick....plus there are dead turtles in the back in the turtle tank horrible horrible place and nasty read more
