My wife and I just moved to Paw Paw in July 2026 and we found out that trash pickup is a little different here than where we moved from. Not a problem. We called Best Way Customer Service to ask what our options were for picking up things besides our two bins. Zero help. Essentially we were told we don't do anything else in your area. Tough luck. I manage a small property management business, and I am somewhat surprised to see reviews claiming poor customer service. When I originally switched to Best Way (BW), it was largely due to their competitive rates. As my business relationship with BW developed, I was pleased to find that their customer service was great - particularly in that I didn't have to wait on hold for excessively long times just to speak with someone. I have had one experience with a BW rep that was a bit short with me, cutting me off repeatedly, but in general their customer service has been great. I would also say that I appreciate and support local businesses as opposed to huge nationwide company. I support BW, and appreciate their prompt attention to my concerns, and that I have never been on hold with them longer than a minute! read more

AWFUL customer service!!!! We have been 15+ year customers and felt totally lied to and disregarded today. I looked out at 7:30am today to find a green note on our trash container stating that they did not pick it up due to "nonpayment". I didn't know how this could be since we have had auto withdrawals set up with them for years. I called and the receptionist apologized and said it was THEIR FAULT as they have started using a new payment system, which customers had to call and set up. We didn't receive ANYTHING about this changeover. I paid my $80 over the phone and she said that they would notify our driver to come back and pick our trash later today. I arrived back home around 3:30 with my garbage still overflowing. I called again and she said that they now would not be able to pick up at our house until Weds next week (the driver was already "too far out" at 7:30am and wouldn't come back). This is a BIG deal for our family of 6!!!! Best Way, however, doesn't seem to care and still took my $80 with NO service on their end. SUPER unprofessional and irritating. No one is ever held accountable for THEIR mistakes anymore..... they just take their money and expect you to deal with it. read more

I am a long time customer, while other neighbors use the competition. I have been happy with service, except when our Recycle items are to be picked up. In Texas township, we are to be picked up on the 2nd week, and 4th week of the month on our normal pick-up day, which is Friday. So, the 2nd week of September, I rolled it out......nothing. Most dumps have you drive over a scale and charge you by weight (approx $30, unless over the limit). These guys have the scale and they know the industry standard, but they go by volume. A bespectacled Karen peers out of her "scale" house and guesses your volume, which coincidentally costs 3 times the competitors. Dump day stinks enough for contractors, why would I suffer attitude or overpay for a commonly available service? How can I reliably estimate the projects waste removal and save the client money when Best Way Karen is relying on literal guesswork and asking $90 for a small load? I can't, its unfair to my clients and they pay me to help avoid unnecessary expenses and hassle. read more

Best way Disposal decided they did not like our political sign so they ran it over. We live on a cul-de-sac and few people come through here. Only a total of 3 houses. The sign was fine was fine and this morning there are truck tracks on our lawn where the sign was. When I called the person was extremely rude and put me on hold and didn't return after a long time so I hung up. We are changing companies. Absolutely god awful customer service. Their manager Kim is a complete bitch and doesn't deserve the title she has. She should be fired for her abysmal customer service. She is beyond rude. When trying to resolve something she continued to speak down to me like I was a child and insulted me throughout the call. She also told me she refused to have them pick up my garbage which I have PAID for. I asked her multiple times and she continued to say we will not be picking it up. I have used this service for half a decade. In this time they have tried to raise their fees (for fuel) when gas prices went down significantly for the entire year - until I caught them doing so and getting it reversed. They have missed picking up Recycling 1 or 2 times a year. If you miss telling them by a few days - they tell you to suck it up and wait until 2 weeks later or maybe 3 weeks depending on their schedule. Their poorly maintained trucks have oil-washed our driveway entrance and each stop in the neighborhood each of the past 2 years; both of which would have gone unknown/uncleaned if it hadn't been for a customer bringing it to their attention. Their 'clean-up' still leaves spots so our roads and driveway entrances look like the BP oil spill. I have no clue if Republic is any better, but hopefully no worse. read more

We had Republic Services in Kalamazoo for 10 years but they turned to crap ever since Covid (more than doubled their rates and missed pick up regularly). We switched to Best Way Disposal fall of 2022 and we could not be happier. Cost is half of what Republic was charging and the pick ups are on time and consistent. Also, I called them today to schedule a yard waste container. Again the price was acceptable and they are dropping off the container tomorrow. If you are looking for trash pick up in the Kalamazoo area, DO NOT USE REPUBLIC SERVICES. I would highly recommend Best Way. Had problems 3 times last summer with them picking up yard waste. Today they didn't pick up our recycling or that of neighbor across the street. I understand: Workers get sick. They quit. Vehicles break down. Those things are normal. When that happens, and service suffers, the company should do something to make it right; for example, offer a credit on the bill. That doesn't happen. In an ideal world we'd just take our business elsewhere & so would others when this happens & the establishment would eventually go out of business. Problem is, all the disposal companies in this area have low ratings. 8~( Maybe if they paid workers better and had more of them? For a long time we were pretty satisfied with this company, but they no longer seem interested in customer service. Your trash or recycling didn't get collected when it was supposed to? First they try to tell you that it did get picked up. Then they tell you you're out of luck if you didn't call within 24 hours, and you'll have to wait for the next pickup. Credit for service you paid for but didn't get? Nope (although they have recently added fuel surcharges to their bills). Any show of interest in keep customers satisfied. Nope. We just moved from Kalamazoo to Vicksburg last year, and we had another service that begins with an "R"! We found out Best Way, was much less expensive and they gave us 3 bins, one a little larger for trash, and 2 bins for recycle. Those 2 are picked up on the 3rd Thursday of each month, the trash weekly. Yes we wish we would be able to have recycling bins TWICE MONTHLY, because we are trying to learn how to recycle? (Duh on me guys, but my dear wife knows?) Anyway I know we are blessed with a great driver for our route, and the CS people actually answer their phones, usually VERY QUICKLY! (Unlike the extremely long waits like with PP as I cannot even speak with customer service with a rather complicated issue?) They say it is about "Covid", but they apparently have plenty of CS "specialists" texting me with their "rules" which they refuse to have ANYONE CALL ME BACK? OK, enough of that but after using that company for years, they treat us as incompetent and now I will look for them on this site? I had to write a poor review for a company today, so I am balancing it out with a good one. I have had bad luck in the past with other garbage service providers by changing rates and hidden fees. I have NEVER had a problem with Best Way at our new house for almost 3 years. When there has been a change, like fuel consumption, they let you know before it happens. DO NOT USE THIS AWFUL COMPANY!!! We moved to Kalamazoo from San Diego about 2 months ago. It was recommended that we use Best Way for trash services. I initially set up with Lindsay, who was lovely and polite. I paid for a year up front. Fast forward to the following week, our trash was still half full and our recycling wasn't taken. I called and spoke with Beverly, who was hideously rude to me right out the gate. She basically told me there was nothing she could do and that we'd have to wait until next pick up. The Friday after labor day, our trash and recycle was left. I call and peak with rude Beverly again and she snaps at me, saying they're a day behind because of the holiday, which the company never bothered to tell anyone, as trash blows all over our streets and into the beautiful wooded area of our neighborhood. The fact that this company only picks up recycling twice a month in a time where people are more environmentally conscious than ever, where most families have more recycling than trash, like my own, is absolutely absurd to me. Fast forward to today, since we've moved in, our recycling has NEVER BEEN PICKED UP!!!! My husband has had to take time away from our family, use gas and mileage on our personal vehicle to go dump our recycling at his dad's company dumpsters. Today, as I left to go pick my kids up from school, I noticed that our recycle had ONCE AGAIN BEEN LEFT!!!! I call immediately to let them know that if they don't fix the situation by the end of the day, that we would be canceling our service and asking for a refund. Our recycling hasn't been taken a single time in almost 2 y'. sz4.,.months. Beverly is once again, hideously rude to me when I explain to her that our recycle hasn't been taken AGAIN. She then says the driver has marked it as taken and explains that the weeks prior, he said it hadn't been put out. It is a complete and utter lie. My husband and I go for a nightly walk and religiously put the cans on the curb together on Thursday nights. She says, "well he marked as taken so I don't know what to tell you". I then ask her what incentive I'd have to fabricate the story that my recycle wasn't taken. She then seems to realize how ridiculous she's being and says the best they can do is to have it picked up Monday. I told her that's absolutely unacceptable, that we are/, at risk for receiving a fee from our homeowner's association, and that we have SEVEN people in our family and that there's no way we can wait until Monday! She then tells me I should speak to her manager, which is translated to "I'm tired of dealing with you and I don't want to help you". I then get a call from Michelle, the manager. I reexplain the situation to her and she says, "well I know you're probably confused about the dates for recycle pick up because it can be confusing during long months". I explain to her that that is absolutely not the case, I have the magnet schedule on my fridge, and that all my neighbors must be confused too because they have their recycles out. I told her that I take umbrage with her being the second employee at Best Way (more like WORST way) to blame the reoccurring problem on me, the paying customer when this is CLEARLY a company problem with a dishonest driver and rude employees. She then says, "Well it sounds like you're not going to be happy with the services we provide, so I'll just refund your money and have the cans picked up on Monday". I was absolutely floored! I was thinking to myself, "Services? What services? My husband having to take our recycle ever week to dumpsters? For putting us at risk for fines from our HOA? For the environment getting trashed because of our overflowing trash cans? For the disdainful manner in which your employee, Beverly speaks to me every time I call"? I said, "so you'd rather lose business from a potential lifelong customer than just remedy the situation"? She said, "Well I've tried to fix the situation for you and all you want to do is say how we're blaming you for the problem". I said, "That's absolutely untrue! You went straight from blaming me for mixing up the schedule to saying you'll just cancel your service"! She sticks to her guns and very condescendingly and curtly says, "Yep! So we'll refund you your money and have the cans picked up Monday". I insisted that they are not to pick up the cans until I've been issued a refund in full for my ENTIRE YEAR'S worth of payments. She agreed and hung up, without a care in the world that she turned away potentially lifelong business on her company's behalf, callously and curtly. Based on the other reviews, it would appear that we aren't the only ones who've had the misfortune of dealing with Best Way. I'm absolutely flabbergasted how I was treated and how this was handled. Best Way Disposal has been our trash and yard waste company for nine years. The women in their office (yes they are always women) have always been professional, exceptionally helpful and really just plain nice. The men in the trucks are always courteous and go above and beyond when picking up our wheelie bins. This past week another trash company in Kalamazoo did a large advertising campaign stating that Best Way had raised their rates urging people to switch, so I called the company and asked for a quote. The prices were exactly the same. We will be sticking with Best Way, not just for the price, but for the people and the service. read more

I used Best Way for my trash removal service because it was the service that the former owners of my home used and there was already a bin present when I moved in. While their customer service has always been lousy and their prices are somewhat higher than competitors, I have never had major issues with them until recently. I have paid my bill by phone upon receiving it every time and my account was charged by them less than a month ago. However, on trash day yesterday my bin was skipped over and not emptied. I was going to call today to ask why but before I could a Best Way truck came to my house at 8:30 this morning and a guy got out, walked on to my property all the way up to the side of my house, and removed my garbage bin and yard waste bin (which was paid for for the entire year), and drove away. I watched all of this on my Ring doorbell camera while at work and was less than pleased to see this individual trespassing on my property and removing bins I had paid for. I was never contacted by Best Way in any way outside of my last regular bill in the mail (which was paid the same day), never told there was an issue with my account, or that my bins would be removed. Zero communication and lousy customer service from a lousy company. Needless to say I have already called their competitor, Republic Waste Services and have switched to them. It's even going to save me money. On a side note, Best Way is owned by the family of failed former local Republican politician Mary Balkema if that kind of thing is important to you. read more

Absolutely dreadful. They frequently forget to pick up. They have outright lied and claimed that I hadn't put stuff out, when I had witnesses proving it my bins had been out since the night before. They were snotty to me in the office when I asked about the recycling schedule and threw something in the mail to me that would explain everything. Once I called to complain that it still wasn't being followed, I found out they had sent me the wrong district's schedule. Driver failed to pickup trash on the scheduled date. I called two days later because I travel for work. They said since I didn't call within 24 hours of the missed pickup, I was $hit out of luck. I also do auto-withdraw from my financial account for 3 years. They failed to pickup again. When I asked them why, they said because we didn't pay. I told them I've had auto withdraw for 3 years. Their response, "We sent you a letter saying we changed our system and I needed to reapply." The letter they sent looked like a bill that they were increasing rates. I also told them I could get a much better monthly rate with Republic, the rep said she can't do anything as an existing customer. They've had a fuel surcharge for the past 12 years. The drivers also don't hold the bin over the truck to dump it long enough because every week I have to pick up trash that blew out of the truck into my yard. read more

My husband stopped in to drop off some trash. The lady at the gate wanted to charge $42. My husband questioned her, she stated the size of his trailer. He then said, but it's not full, Waste Management only charged me $22 the other day for the same size load. Her reply was, "What are you doing here then". He left, went to Waste Management the next day and was charged $21. Our yearly contract is coming due, should we be changing service providers? Is this the attitude of Bestway? We contracted with this company for years, but recently received a much better offer from another company. I called Best Way to cancel our contract. First, they don't do refunds for prepaid service. Next, they said, "Well, we can do better on your charges." I said, let me think about it. The next day I called back, and they offered me a LOWER charge than the day before. What is this, a flea market where you bargain? I checked with my neighbors, and found that garbage service is NEGOTIABLE! Call and ask for a lower price. If you and your neighbors all have the same size containers, shouldn't we all be paying the same price? This company is practicing fraud, in our opinion. read more

Customer service is very poor. They refused to honor the services I was paying for and kept switching me between staff. They claim they are competitive and do not raise rates, however, " fuel charges" of $4.05!!! per home were added on top of my monthly. I have used Best Way for my entire adult life (I am 65). On May 3, as you all know if you live in the Kalamazoo area, we had wind gusts up to 60 mph. When I returned home, my trash container was on it's side, which of course didn't surprise me. But to my disappointment, it still held all of the trash. As I drove through the streets in my area, I noticed many of them were on their sides and still filled with their trash. Now, I understand their system is mechanical, but seriously? Shame on the drivers, or shame on the company if that is their policy. It's not as if this is something that happens weekly, or even monthly. I don't think I've ever seen so many containers on their sides, left with trash. I'm pretty sure the added time for the drivers wouldn't have been that much and a common courtesy to their loyal customers! read more

Terrible service! We have lived at 2 different residences in Mattawan in the last 4 years. The 1st location we never had an issue with our service at all. New location, new driver, and we have terrible service! You wouldn't think trash pick up would be such a big deal. Well it is with this driver. If your lid is raised up a little bit due to a full can, forget it, he won't even pick it up. Don't even think about setting a bag next to the trash can or having an extra box around Christmas time. They are too lazy to get out of the truck to put it in. Even when you call the office they say that is fine, but if you actually do what they say you can you are going to be stuck with trash for an extra week because the driver will refuse to pick it up. Best Way Disposal has the contract to empty two commercial containers in a strip mall that borders on a residential area which has ordinances that you can't make a lot of racket from dusk to dawn. However, Best Way likes to work really early and comes to empty those containers at 3:30am on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Emptying those containers involve a lot of banging and clanging not to mention the truck is very noisy which wakes everybody up at that time. No amount of calls or messages on their facebook page matters to them...waking up @ twenty families doesn't matter to them....so boycotting the business that they service hopefully will matter to them. Too bad a small business owner gets penalized because this company chooses to be a big jerk. read more
