I am giving Best Western Arcata Inn a solid four stars because... Location Location Location. I have stayed in the Eureka/Arcata area before. This place is located off US 101, but far enough away that you don't get road noise. Rooms seem quiet. My room was clean and basic with microwave and mini-refrigerator/freezer. Parking was easy with open spots by my door. More location... A McDonald's, Carl's Jr., Ray's Supermarket and Pepper's Diner are all within easy walking distance. Check-in was a breeze and the woman working the front desk was pleasant. I would stay here again when in the area. read more

13 hours from home & we had to book a stay in Arcata. We were questioning our decision, but as we passed some of the other options we realized they all look nothing like the pictures. We pulled up into this hotel and the front looks a little smaller than the picture, but the rooms and breakfast area look just as shown. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. It's an outdoor hotel like an apartment - where your doors all face the parking lot. My daughter was a nervous wreck about this, but it was completely safe. We didn't hear any outdoor or neighbor noises. Overall, I would definitely stay here again if we needed to. A big shout out to the lady who handles the breakfast. It was not only clean, but the food was delicious. She's constantly cleaning and she was so nice too. She has a little tip jar in case anyone is interested. read more

Excellent experience staying 4 nights at the Best Western Arcata. The staff was wonderful. Everyone I interacted with from check in to the staff taking care of the breakfast area to housekeeping. Arcata is a great central location to go north to Redwood National Park and south to Avenue of the Giants. Basically my boyfriend and I were out all day exploring but needed a comfortable, clean and safe place to rest our heads at at the end of the day. Best Western is situated in an area right off the 101 with a number of chain hotels and I choose them based off the great reviews. The room was clean, hot water and water pressure outstanding, WiFi fast (even on nights the hotel was packed with guests) and free breakfast saved us money each day. We were able to choose from eggs, toast, yogurt, oatmeal, pancakes and more. They also had to-go containers. Basically we filled up on breakfast, grabbed a few muffins to go and then were good until dinner time. The seating area for breakfast was also clean and well kept. I was really impressed with the atmosphere and offerings. Overall, a very pleasant stay. There was some noise off the 101 freeway but by turning on the fan at night, it mostly was drowned out. I even was convinced to sign up for their rewards program since I would stay here or at one of their other properties again. Nice grounds with some outdoor seating, dog run area and small gazebo rounded out the property. Great experience all around. read more

The 3 stars are for customer service and genuine responses to a few hiccups we encountered once we checked in to Best Western. We were mistakenly given a room that was already occupied by another guest (which we discovered once we opened the door and saw their belongings on the table and bed), and then in our newly assigned room there was a pair of underwear behind the bathroom door from the previous guest as well as hair on a towel from the previous guest. All of the staff were friendly and understanding, so I'm appreciative of that. read more

We like staying in Best Westerns. A good decently priced chain. We actually stayed in one prior to this one that was a plus and this one was way better. Clean and spacious room with mini fridge, microwave, hair dryer, and also a mini coffee maker in addition to a window AC. Booked and stayed here while on a road trip. We weren't planning to stop but so thankful that we did because we were too tired to keep driving. We booked a room with 2 queen beds. Usually when I book a room, I put in the notes that my son is autistic and request a first floor room as he likes to run and jump a lot and don't want to bother anyone if we were to be put on a higher level with rooms below us. As I stated earlier, we were tired form driving all day and I must have forgot. So thankful that ANGIE at check in was able to be accommodating to us and move our room to a first level area. She didn't have to do that, especially since we were checking in at 11pm and space was already limited. I really appreciate her going out of her way to make sure we felt comfortable and not making me feel bad for forgetting to put that in my reservation notes. Thanks again Angie! Like always, our room was nice and cozy. The water pressure was awesome. We got to the room, showered and fell right to sleep. Got some rest and hit the road the next morning to continue our drive. read more

I hadn't stayed at this location in a couple of years and I won't ever go back. The staff was amazing. Very friendly and accommodating. That's why I have a couple stars. My son and I had some business on the north coast so I chose Arcata for convenience. Check in was great, Gabrielle was awesome! The first night was a nightmare. Room wasn't very clean, but workable. Apparently the previous guest in the same room had many "friends". From 2am-4am I had several different people come by knocking on the door. (The chain on our door was broken btw). Many questions about this but more irritated more than anything. After calling the office to complain, tried to go back to bed. A few hours later when I went over to grab coffee, they already knew I'd be by. Manager not on site, but Paola was also very accommodating and helpful. She helped coordinated a room switch for that night. Second night was better but the room was not good. The door to the bathroom had been exposed to some kind of bathroom flood and wouldn't close properly. Not great for privacy. Room not very clean. At least no unwanted visitors the second night. This place used to be pretty nice. I think the management should be doing regular inspection of the rooms because they need attention. Disappointed but survived. If you've been reading my posts, you probably noticed that we were doing a cross country road trip from Atlanta to Seattle. The trip was notable since, well, we were moving during COVID-19 (no choice) and we were traveling with 2 big dogs. Naturally we had to make our reservations several days in advance and ensure that they were dog friendly (surprisingly, many place in the Arcata area were not). Arcata is a small town. Places to stay can book up quickly however if you look at Trinidad as well, there are a few options for you to choose from. Unfortunately like I mentioned many are not dog friendly and some only allow dogs up to a certain size. Luckily at Best Western, they are a little more flexible with their dog policy. We brought our 2 golden retrievers without any issue. Just understand, though, that that means other people (perhaps those less considerate) can also bring their dogs. Many folks didn't pick up after their dogs and a few loved to walk their dogs off leash. Why do they do that? The rooms came with a mini fridge, small dining table, microwave and all your other typical amenities. Internet was decent and everything was clean. For a night in the area, the price and features were perfect for what we needed. If you're planning to make a vacation out of your trip to Arcata, then perhaps another more upper scale place would be suitable. There's plenty of parking here and a shopping center across the way (but most stores were closed because of COVID-19). Front desk folks were helpful and checkin/checkout were quick. If you are looking for something that is inexpensive and decent, look no further. Best Western is pretty great! read more

I'm sad to have to write this review. I do not recommend staying here unless you don't have a problem with disgusting conditions. I checked in for a night. The person at the front at desk was friendly. When I got to my room I found a hole in the shower wall and the shampoo container on the shower floor. I called the front desk and the person quickly brought me some individual bottles of shampoo since the dispenser was damaged and on the floor. I chalked it up to a random misshap and let it slide since I was only staying for one night. I checked out the following morning to travel to another city. Two nights later I checked back into this hotel after a long day of traveling. I got to my room and checked the bedding. I was very disappointed and disgusted to find blood stains on the mattress protector. To be fair they looked old and probably been through the laundry but it was still disgusting. It was midnight and I was alone so I decided to handle things in the morning. I woke up and noticed the floors had not been vacuumed. I was trying to be reasonable considering the pandemic but I was uncomfortable. I went to the restroom and turned on the shower. There were a bunch of bugs crawling in the bathroom. I gathered my things, walked to the front desk, explained my concerns and checked out early. The people at the front desk were nice and gave me a discount for the night I stayed but frankly I should been refunded 100%. There are are issues I encountered (like a guest in the breakfast room who was maskless, coughing and barefoot) but I only listed some of the worst issues. I found that the Comfort Inn across the street is much cleaner, professional and comfortable. I do not recommend this Best Western location. It should be shut down by health inspectors until it is made at least decent. read more

Don't bother. I made a reservation for Thanksgiving week a month in advance. I called to let them know I had dogs, and asked for a quiet room. I was told that we'd be in a room at the front of the motel, because the back of the motel is right along Hwy 101. Less than a week later I had a family emergency in the area, and had to get a room fast. I called and reserved a room, again asking for one in a quiet area. The morning of the reservation, which was literally a day after I made it, they called me wanting to confirm I was coming. I told them I was. When I arrived that evening, I was told they didn't have my reservation. After some back and forth, they found it. This was 24 hours after I had called them, and less than 12 hours since they'd called to confirm I was keeping the rez. I was told they "upgraded" me to a king room in the quiet area. That seemed nice. I go to the room, 205, and it's a bit dark, dingy, and worn. I wasn't there for a vacation, so it didn't bother me much initially. But then I found the sink barely drained, the toilet did not flush unless you held the handle down for a ridiculously long time, one of the bedside lamps would not stay on (clearly has a short), and there was a pervasive stench of air freshener. There was almost no water pressure in the shower, so it took twice as long to rinse. And the heater had a problem, as the room was very warm when thermostat said 62. To test it, i turned on the AC to 67, and sure enough, it went on. I turned it back to heat at 61, and the heat came back on. I ended up having to turn off the heat to sleep because it was so hot in the room. More on that later. The "blackout" curtains were a joke- they are way too small for the window, so they provided zero help in the morning. I showed pictures to my family, and theylaughed and asked why the hotel even bothered. What is particularly egregious is that after my stay, they sent a request for a review,and I said the staff was nice, but the room needed help. I mentioned most of the things above. Why does it matter? Because.... I went back for Thanksgiving, and when I arrived, I was told my room was in the back, by the freeway. This was after they'd previously confirmed I would be in the front. The front desk person said someone made a mistake, but like the first time, she was nice and helpful, and said she'd move me to a room in the front. But the only room left up there was 205 where I'd stayed before. I hoped they'd fixed at least some of the issues. They hadn't. In fact, the sink drained more slowly, and the heater was out of control the first night. It again was set to 62 when I entered, and again it was like a sauna. Despite being in the 40s outside, I had to turn on the AC to cool down the room. The first night it was manageable. But the second night it was very cold out, and I actually needed the heat, which I had turned off during the day. But when I went to turn the heat on, there was a brief but strong burning smell. After that, it blew cold air. I turned up the thermostat, and still cold. After waiting 10 minutes and no heat, I turned it off, and back on. No heat. I called the front desk and was told the hotel was booked and there were no other rooms. The front desk person, Angie, tried to find me a space heater, but there was none. I ended up with 4 blankets and a freezing cold room. Angie said I could speak with the manager, Shasta, the following day about getting some points or something. She also said she'd leave a message for Shasta to call me. The next day I was told that Shasta was not in, and wouldn't be in until the following week. Like Angie, the person at the front desk said she'd leave a message for Shasta to call me. Monday came and went, no call. I called today, and was told the manager was in, but not available when I called. That person said he's ask Shasta to call me. Nothing. I called tonight and spoke with Monique. Monique had an attitude. She claimed she'd give the manager my message, but never asked for my name or number. She clearly had no intention of conveying my message. This place allows dogs, has a large grassy area for dogs, and at least one good person working there (Angie). That equals the one requisite star. The room I had twice was crap, and they charged me for the night for which there was no heat, which is illegal. The manager, Shasta, is obviously trying to avoid her responsibility, so there is no way to recommend this place. Shasta, if you read this, don't bother with some b.s. platitude. You have my number and you should be offering to refund my money for that second night, at the very least. read more

Besides the rooms being absolutely gross, dark, and dingy they proceeded to charge me $100.00 after I had already checked out, I called to see what this charge was for and they told me I was smoking in the room when I DO NOT SMOKE! They told me they can not reverse the charge nor can they show proof, then after I informed them over and over I do not smoke they then said they found a pipe in the room as well, how convenient. I asked them to again produce this proof and they said they threw it away. This is a complete scam and the ppl working at this hotel are incompetent. I'd advise anyone reading this to stay anywhere but this dump! STAY AWAY!! read more

Our family and little dog stayed here on Tuesday and Wednesday night. While I have some concerns, the hotel delivered on what's most important to me, so I'm going with 4 stars. Pros: Real comfortable beds. Zzzzzzz Room was large and smelled clean. WiFi (new as of this week) worked great. It was quiet on the 2nd floor. 2 tables and a dresser (lots of space for our stuff). 3 large dresser drawers to unpack clothes. Breakfast was as outstanding as many other reviewers already mentioned. Pet friendly. Staff is friendly and helpful. Some of them told me they attend the local university. Cons: Lots of homeless and drug type people on this street - but the other hotels in town (Red Roof, Motel 6, Days Inn & Suites, Comfort Inn, Hampton Inn) are on the same street so going elsewhere won't change this dynamic. I should clarify - I'm sorry people are homeless. My real concern is for any drug addicts who might want to break into my car during the night. The picnic table area by the large lawn is not well maintained; I saw lots of trash and cigarette butts on the ground each day we were there. Who's supervising this? The walkway along most the 2nd floor rooms was filthy (I'll post some pictures). It looked like someone's trash bag was leaking some kind of dirty liquid all the way to the stairs and beyond. It was there on Tuesday when we arrived (didn't look new then) and was still there when we left today (Thursday). Who's supervising staff? I wanted to give 3 stars for that filth except (as stated before) they did a good job providing what's most important to me, which was inside our room. Tiny bathroom; hard to get inside before closing the door. Housekeeping doesn't seem to have an eye for detail. There appeared to be dried urine at the base of the toilet in room 214, and when they cleaned our room yesterday they left the same pieces of paper or tissue on the floor that were already there. In other words they didn't sweep. How come? There's a pool (half of which is covered by a roof) but the water didn't look real clean. read more

I have stayed at the Best Western Arcata Inn several times over the past year. Each time I have been extremely impressed by their hospitality and cleanliness. I chose to stay at the Best Western during the 4 years my daughter is enrolled at Cal Poly Humboldt. I've been impressed by the breakfast, the fridge in the room, the nice tv's, the comfy pillows, the comfortable bed, the later check-in, etc. I stay 2-4 nights every few months. Last week, however I had a bad experience. The room I was put in had the worst smell of cigarette smoke, like it was imbedded into the carpet. I said something to the front desk and they brought over two types of spray. The spray didn't help...it just made it smell like cigarettes and Febreze. I opened the window to try to circulate the air and that didn't help at all. The a/c also wasn't working properly and with the smell and the stuffiness from no air circulation, it was UNCOMFORTABLE. The rooms are supposed to be smoke free, but this particular room had been smoked in more than once. When I asked for the spray I wasn't offered to switch rooms so I just stayed and hoped it would eventually go away. At almost $200 a night I was not comfortable or happy. My stay was for 3 nights. By day 2, I went back to the office to let someone else know about the terrible stench. That particular employee offered me another room, but by then all of my personal items and clothes reeked of cigarette smoke so I figured I'd just tough it out. I was hoping that by being a continuous guest someone would have done something more to keep me as a continuous guest. Best Western Rewards does status match so they match my Hilton Diamond status to their Diamond status. Which means upgrades when available! This is such a perk of Best Western, I totally love it. We paid for a King Room and got a King Bed with an in-room Jacuzzi and more space. Thank you Best Western! Our room was dark at night, quiet, and clean. I was skeptical at first with the one star reviews but we decided to check it out. We stayed 2 nights on the first floor. Staff was friendly and the exterior was very outdated. Our room was pretty specious and clean. We did not have any major concerns. The bathroom was cramped and toilet is kind of old. They had a half used toilet paper roll in use and not much left for us so we had to ask the front desk for more. They have a continental breakfast from 6-10am. First day we went around 8:30am and it was picked over so we just left. Staff seemed slow to refill the food. Second day we went around 7:30am and it had more in stock but still pretty limited selection to other hotels. We did see staff power washing the walkways while we were there. Overall a good experience, just not thrilled about the breakfast. read more

I love this hotel and stay here every time I come to visit family in Arcata. Here's why: the rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable. Each room has a coffee maker, mini fridge and microwave. The landscaping is pretty, they have an indoor/outdoor pool and jacuzzi, outdoor bbq area, pet area, but best of all is the breakfast! They go the extra mile! One time they even had an egg strata! Today my potatoes had just a hint of rosemary. The staff is kind and helpful. A win win in my book all at a reasonable price. read more

We still give 5 stars to this place and love coming here, but they should have informed us about new policy changes like if you stay longer than a day or so cleaning your room request by using the door hanger. We came back to our beds not being made and a wash cloth still in the bathroom. I asked the front desk if this is a new policy change and she asked if I filled out the card. Of course I said no and the front desk did not inform me about this change. I wasn't mad but I would love to informed of changes to get my room cleaned. My home is in San Francisco. We planned for a long vacation We stayed for about three weeks and we were asked to not stay in hotel room for more than three weeks!? I just thought they could just say something similar with the length of our stay I was very offended by this comment! Why would they make that comment on the length of our stay? It was very difficult to make my stay comfortable or enjoyable!! The rest of our stay we felt uncomfortable!
