We stayed here for two nights on our way to Oregon. It was our first time visiting Eureka, and overall our stay was okay, but there were a few things worth mentioning. Our first impression wasn't great. The gentleman who checked us in was surprisingly rude. The booking site had listed our teenager as a child instead of an adult, so there was a $10-per-day charge to correct it. That wasn't an issue--we expected to pay the difference--but he made such a big deal about it that it felt uncomfortable, almost as if he assumed we couldn't afford it. It was an odd way to start our stay. One thing I hadn't seen mentioned in other reviews is the location. The hotel is next to several large dispensaries. If that's your thing, it probably won't bother you, but if you're like us and don't enjoy the smell, you'll notice it the moment you step outside or open the window. The room itself was clean and nicely updated. My only complaint was a strange design choice: there was a table placed directly over the air conditioning unit, blocking much of the airflow. We visited in June, and with the warmer temperatures it definitely made it harder to cool the room. On the positive side, the location was convenient for exploring the area and visiting the attractions we had planned. The breakfast also exceeded our expectations. Instead of the typical waffle maker and stale cereal, there were hot options both mornings, including eggs, sausage, potatoes, and plenty of fresh fruit. Overall, I'm not 100% sure I'd stay here again. They have clean rooms, good breakfast, and convenient location. Just be aware of the nearby dispensaries and don't expect the warmest welcome at check-in. read more

You get so many amenities for such a good price here. The rooms are clean and the staff is so helpful and kind. Free breakfast, free WiFi, a heated pool and indoor pool, and a hot tub. It's also within walking distance of Kristina's Restaurant, which is an affordable and tasty diner. What a fun location foe kids. They had an oasis pool And hot tub that was great. The service was friendly and also very good for families. Our room came with a microwave and a fridge. They serve Seattles best and pike place. The breakfast in the AM was decent with a waffle bar and an auto pancake machine. 4the kids loved the fresh yogurt machine and juice machine. 5th in Eureka. The room was spacious, very clean, and super comfortable with a big bed that made it easy to unwind after a long day. I loved the upgraded amenities -- a modern TV, a newer refrigerator, microwave, and even a Keurig, which made mornings so much easier. The staff was accommodating and made the stay feel smooth and welcoming. Bonus- bath tub! Unheard of!! Great breakfast near pool area! The area is a little sketchy, but lots of restaurants close by and definitely walk around Old Town/Harbor area to see how charming the city can be. Breakfast and the pool area are wonderful at the hotel, check in staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed right across from the check in area and traffic noise was really loud, thank goodness for a good noise machine. We could also hear the people upstairs when waking around and using the shower. I do like we could park right outside our door. We didn't know anything about this place, just rolled in to see if they had any rooms for the night and they happen to have one. We're happy we chose this place because it was a great experience from the moment we walked into the lobby. Friendly people, super cool place with the best coffee and a very yummy breakfast. They have the best and biggest hot tub we've ever used! They call it an Oasis and it truly is with the decor and the music and the lit tiki torches! The hotel looks nice- the pool area is also well done. The room was clean. My issue is that due to the age, you can hear everything. This seemingly made person in the room above me appear overly loud. Mind you- I use a sleeping aid, had the ac on and sleeping sounds playing....i was still woken up three times. I brought it to the hotel the next morning all I got was oh sorry, weird no one else Complained, I can give you a late check out. Wow- so I tell you the guy above me and that's the response. For 350 a night and the poor customer service, I wish I would have gone elsewhere. I won't be back to this location. read more

We loved our stay at this hotel! The staff were welcoming and friendly and the bed in our room was really comfy! I also loved the fluffy pillows and slept amazingly well. What we loved most was the oasis pool/hot tub area! This area has a pool and large hot tub. The hot tub has two waterfalls and plenty of seating, which is nice because it easily accomodated everyone that wanted to use it. We spent hours in their hot tub and it was so relaxing. They have heaters, towels, a fire pit, pool table, and lounge chairs. They even have a water filling station for you to fill up your water bottle to keep hydrated. The breakfast in the morning had lots of options, which we loved! I made a waffle and it was the perfect way to start the day. There are things within walking distance, which also is a nice plus. We walked to Stu's Brews Drive Thru and ordered a sandwich and veggie bagel. We Ubered to downtown Eureka for Arts Alive, although if it's not raining, it's a short walk which is really convenient. If you are looking for a relaxing stay, I definitely recommend staying here and spending time in their Oasis Spa area! read more

I don't know if the gentleman working the front desk was a manager or not, but his customer service skills are severely lacking. We checked in super late on the day of our check-in as we had been driving all through the night. We called to let the front desk know and they told us no worries and they were able to accommodate us really nicely. When we woke up the next morning, we noticed that there were two $25 charges in addition to the original charge for our room. We called up to the front desk to inquire about what the charge was for. Immediately, he started off the conversation hostile saying obviously whoever checked you in didn't tell you, but this is totally normal charge for California, kept going on and on about how if we were in San Francisco they would charge so much more, but we're getting a really good deal by only being charged $25 and that the $25 is just a hold and will be refunded.I kept trying to interject saying I'm fine with a $25 charge if that is what is standard, but we have been charged the $25 twice. He kept talking over me, repeating his same script and just got louder and louder. At that point, I knew I wasn't gonna get anywhere with him and told him I would just discuss it when we went to check out. When we went to check out, it was him again at the front desk, and I tried to explain the situation, but I didn't mind paying the $25 fee and then I understand it will be refunded, but that we have been charged twice for the same fee. His exact response was to shrug his shoulders and say 'so?'. At that point, we realize there was just no reasoning with him. My husband then just asked for his name and he made sure to smile real big and spell out Aaron. And thanks to Aaron we have really just been put off by this location in particular, but also Best Westerns in general. And we were never refunded the duplicate charge. The pool area here is amazing! Makes you feel like you're at a resort! Our check-in was unfortunately delayed, but they were having technical difficulties at the time. The parking lot was also kind of a nightmare upon arrival. It was full of large worker trucks and it made it difficult to park, but that also could have been circumstantial for that specific night. One last thing that annoyed us was that they acted like they were strict with the breakfast at check in and gave us breakfast tickets; however, the next morning there was no mention of them in the breakfast room. Might be the best Best Western in existence. My only warning would be to ensure you get THIS outlet, not the one near the Bayshore Mall, which might belong to an entirely different chain. It doesn't look like much from the road, but once you're in you'll be amazed by the pool/hot tub/general meeting area. It really exceeds what anyone's expectations would be given that it's off the highway in Eureka. And the place has limo service! Seriously! Another time and we might've partaken in it, but as it was we found plenty to keep us occupied within walking distance (dinner was at a cafe next door). This may be the nicest hotel in Eureka. We found it to be clean with friendly and helpful staff as well as a good breakfast. The pool, hot tub, and play area would be good for families. Complimentary espresso machine in the lobby. There is also a complimentary limo service available (a unique perk). The surrounding neighborhood is close to cute downtown Eureka which has many dining options. The price is higher for Eureka, but more amenities offered for travelers who will stay a few days and spend more time at the hotel. We would stay here again. read more

I rarely post reviews on hotels because they rarely leave an impression but absolutely loved it here. Checked in Thanksgiving day and the lady at the counter in the evening was pleasant. I enjoyed that they have security walking around due to the unhoused individuals that could walk by. Breakfast top tier and amazing options - a yogurt machine ?! Wowed me. The jacuzzi & pool area are the main attraction. Breakfast is convenient & serviceable, but don't expect anything more than that. We had literally no available power outlets in our room besides one lamp with a USB port, our magnetic room keys malfunctioned multiple times, locking us out of our room. Room smelled musty, the TV didn't work & the soap dispenser in the shower was empty, & the front desk had an attitude... But, besides that, enjoy your stay. read more

It's a BW, so you have to adjust your expectations to match what you booked/paid for. This was a last-minute choice as we were going to get another 100 or so miles in on our road trip for the day but decided to stay put. Overall staff was friendly & helpful, breakfast was pretty good and dining area was clean, and check-in was a breeze. The room had all of the advertised amenities but clearly had been cleaned/prepped in a rush. Lots of hair left over in the bathroom and a sticky mess on the console. I just spent 2 nights here with my husband--it was my first and will be my last Best Western motel stay. Our room was clean but I cannot say much more. The breakfast was a nice touch. I think that it was the best stay that we could have gotten in Eureka--it's just a run-down, depressed, sketchy, sad little town. I have stayed he before without issue but will not return. The man working at the front desk was having difficulty finding the payment information that had been made by a 3rd party. I don't mind that there was a mix-up (and eventually he realized he had the information he needed...oops) but he was rude and condescending the entire time, would not listen to me as I tried to explain things and basically treated me like a imbecile. He smugly mentioned that he had "worked there for more than 20 years" and that I really didn't know what I was talking about. I travel 30-40 nights a year and understand that things happen, but that is no excuse for how this front desk employee acted and treated me. I got there expecting to have an enjoyable stay and Ryan at the front desk ran us through the ringer. He went on and on about how *if* we had too many kids, we had 3, which we told him, he would have to "kick us out" which he said "would be embarrassing for him and for us" when we questioned what a family with 4 children would have to do he said "They would have to be able to afford a family suite because this Best Western is *higher end* and people have to be able to afford it." The experience went on and on and EVERY interaction I had with the man was absolutely atrocious. I will never stay at this particular Best Western again. If you have a family, please either don't stay here or send your husband in to check in because Ryan had no problem treating all the working class men around us with respect. The guy obviously has a problem with women and most likely serious mommy issues.*Pro Tip* The Comfort Inn on the south side of town is so much nicer for families. read more

Very nice hotel and rooms but staff was unfriendly and difficult. My mother in law booked this hotel after reading reviews on Expedia. Expedia told her that her 2 babies, who are 2 and under, would not be counted as children in the room. Upon arriving and checking in, the clerk at the front desk told her that this is not their policy and they ended up having to get another room and move. They told my MIL that they would be "watching her on the cameras" to make sure she has the amount of people in her room that she claims to because we had guests coming to visit during the day who were staying at a different hotel. read more

We stayed at this hotel as a middle point on our road trip up North. We were extremely pleased with our stay - the rooms were very nice, CLEAN, renovated, and beautiful. It even smelled nice when we walked in! The staff was very kind and the amenities (beautiful pool/hot tub, fitness center, breakfast lounge, complimentary limo rides to local restaurants) we're great! We were about an hour away from Humboldt County Redwood state park and an hour and a half away from Redwood Natl Parks. We would stay here again! Highly recommend! One of the memorable BW+ because of their Oasis pool and hot tub, beautifully trimmed trees (bonsai style) and super friendly accommodating service at the front desk. Overall, everything looks up to date and well maintained. Lots of maintenance men walking around. The rooms are standard and clean with a microwave and small fridge. I don't go into many pools and hot tubs, but this tiki inspired pool area is clean, filled with unique touches and the hot tub area has Hawaiian slack-key and Hawaiian style music piped in. While it was older and somewhat dated, we enjoyed our stay and didn't experience anything negative. Our 2nd floor room was spacious, beds were good, the in-room refrigerator and microwave were put to daily use, and I really appreciated the free breakfast options. Steve definitely found a hit with our accommodations on our recent trip to the Redwoods and Eureka, CA. Hotels for me at least can be troublesome with loud parties, people giving zodiac readings all through the night through paper thin walls, drunks and just weirdos in general to prevent you from getting a good night's sleep but that wasn't the case here at all. It was very quiet here and noise from others wasn't a frustration here in the slightest. Of course traveling when it's not tourist season helps too. The front desk was super friendly and very informative about when breakfast was and things to do that were close to us. The continental breakfast was pretty good. They had all of the basics and a bit more. You can make your own Pancakes and waffles, get fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, breakfast sandwiches and more. Really loved the pool and hot tub area but unfortunately it was out of season and they were all closed up and it would have been too cold anyway but when it's warm this whole area looks wonderful to relax at. By looking at the pictures the main swimming pool looked indoors because I saw a roof but it is indeed an outside pool with a overhanging roof so that's something to keep in mind if you come here and swimming looks like it could be an option any time of the year since it looks indoors. No frustrations at all to report with our stay here and if we are back in the area this hotel will definitely pop into our minds first! read more

At first seeing that it was more of a motel style style I started to have low expectations. Those were well succeeded after we go to the room and when to the pool area! We are actually staying in late April so the weather is a bit cooler and misty/rainy but the pools are heated and their is a hot tub that is super relaxing . I brought my 5 kids here for our first stop on our road trip. They loved it! And the staff really implements the rules so that is pretty nice for other guests who are trying to relax. The pool is in a separate area from the spa/hot tub area so that helps with the sound of children. Everything was clean and well maintained. You do need to sign a paper for how many guests will be using the pool area. We had to upgrade our 2 bed room to a family suite because we had more than 4 guests. It was an extra $200 on too of the $190 (cheap cost from Expedia) . The room is spacious and actually turned out to be a nice upgrade. Overall we will probably make this a stop every time we do a west coast road trip. As far as food and shops ... there are lots of local places to eat and a target less than 2 miles away. read more

I went to the other Best western and I got to say..I was a little worried as there was some funny business going on outside. The hotel receptionist was super nice and then informed me that I was at the wrong one and gave me instructions to the BW Humboldt bay. WOW what a difference. Super close to shops and even better, super close to a nice beach walk. I had a great, clean room and amazing parking...right outside my room. Only negative, id say was more due to the town than the hotel - What the hell is up with people not picking up the dog poop after their dogs in Eureka. Holy hell...there was so much dog poop outside the hotel and down by the beach annnns by the zoo. I get it...it's nice traveling with dogs...but JFC people.. pick up after your pets. Even my 6 year old noticed and was asking me what the hell that was about. The breakfast was pretty sweet too.. and all the workers were super polite. Ill def be staying here again. read more

So, the customer service sucked! Thanks Ryan. We get to our room and the tv does not work. We called and they sent someone who could not fix the issue. We arrived on the late side and I believe the over charged us for 1, and the solution to our tv not working was to give us a new room. There are 4 girls who have just drove 6 hours and un packed everything in our room already, 2 elderly ladies also. This is an hour or so later by the way. I said we can stay in this room if you compensate us a little for the inconvenience. Ryan at the front desk said he couldnot promise that and did not have the authority to make that call and there was not a way to reach a manager.( I hope they do not have an emergency at night because Ryan couldn't deal with it) So we were left with moving, which they offered to help, but another hour had passed and he didn't know the code to get the cart for our luggage. Ridiculous, we had to pack and move! We got a sorry but I felt we should have got more! We have always stayed at Best Westerns before and had a positive experience but not this time. Ryan was not very helpful or caring. When you pay for a room everything should be checked and should be working! Will not be using Best Western for awhile. This could have been overlooked if we were compensated even with a voucher or something....bad customer service read more

Overall the hotel is good. Check in was smooth. We checked in for four nights total. The rooms are a little dated but they are clean. I like that they have a microwave and a mini fridge inside the room. They have overpriced washers and dryers available on site if needed which is always convenient. The spa is cute but very boring. There is no music or food or drinks allowed near the spa or anywhere on the deck. The reason for my low star rating is because there are no boundaries or expectation of privacy by the hotel staff. I personally do not like house keeping coming in my room during my stay anywhere. I keep up with the cleaning on my own and take out my trash daily. For this reason, I ALWAYS have the "do not disturb" or "privacy please" cards on the outside of my door. The hotel staff ignored the sign and entered the room anyway without prior notice. I contacted the front lobby and the gentleman who took the call did not immediately have an answer of why this happened. He did his due diligence or finding out the answer for me and calling me back. He stated that after three nights, hotel staff will enter the room regardless of the sign posted on the door. I wish they would have disclosed this information during check in. The lack of transparency and privacy is enough for me to spread the word about it and never stay here again. read more
