My friend and I just spent a weekend hiking near Neosho, and we stayed at the Best Western Big Spring Lodge. What a delightful place! Every single staff member was wonderful, from the folks at the front desk to the breakfast ladies to the housekeepers to the maintenance men. Julio was very helpful when I called ahead of time with questions about our reservation. Special kudos to Dezaray at the front desk, who was on duty all weekend. She is the epitome of hospitality! We felt so welcomed on check-in; she was friendly and efficient and gave us lots of information about local sites and restaurants. My friend and I played board games in the evenings on both nights of our stay, and Dezaray was so accommodating: turning down the volume on the TV so we could hear each other and making sure we had snacks and drinks available. We chatted with her about our adventures each day and gave her feedback about her restaurant recommendations. It was such a good feeling to walk in the front door and see Dezaray at the front desk, welcoming us "home". Thank you! The breakfast every morning (included in the cost of the room) was EXCELLENT! They had lots of different fresh fruit (bananas, apples, oranges and blueberries) as well as dried apricots and other healthy options. The buffet included everything from eggs to breakfast meats to potatoes to yogurt to breads to the marvelous waffle machine. And, of course, milk (including soy milk) and juices and coffee! There was always ample seating (although we were there at opening each day, and it may get busier later in the morning). We appreciated having the water coolers in the breakfast area and gym room to keep our water bottles full. Our room was spacious and well-appointed, with two queen-size beds, a bureau (which also contained the room fridge and microwave and held the TV), nightstand, armchair, desk area with office chair, closet and bathroom. We appreciated the European model of the toilet and shower/tub being separated from the sink/vanity area. Despite the lodge's proximity to the highway, our room was quiet and we both slept well. It was easy to adjust the temperature (which was handy since our window faced east). The housekeeping staff was very accommodating, as we declined full services but asked for fresh towels each day. We were sad that the pool wasn't open yet, but we understand, given the cooler weather. We were also sad that there was no hot tub available, as that would have been very nice after hiking all day. There is a gym room which looks like it's filled with all necessary equipment, but we never used it. The lodge's location is very handy: adjacent to Hwy 60, near drug stores and restaurants, and just a few minutes from downtown Neosho. The area is very safe: well-lit with grassy areas surrounding the property for guests with pets to exercise. We did encounter two maintenance issues during our stay. The first was that the tub stopper would not stay in the "up" position to drain the tub while taking a shower (we used a clothespin to keep it open). The second was a faint odor of mold from the carpet underneath the vanity/sink, where there must have been a prior leak. I brought both of these issues to the attention of the manager as I was checking out, and she promised to address them. My friend said how much she enjoyed staying at the Big Spring Lodge, and I agree! We will definitely return on our next visit to the Neosho area. Thank you for a marvelous stay! read more

We stayed here from Friday evening until when we left on Sunday morning. We left each day around 5:10am, so we were too early for their complimentary breakfast. They actually left out some cereal and milk on Saturday morning which was very nice. The room we stayed in was comfortable and fitted. There were some stains on the floor in various areas on the carpet. On the floor above us there seemed to be a track and field event being held because we heard constant running and jumping for hours on end throughout multiple times. The bathrooms by the lobby were broken, but the ones in the room worked fine. The people working here were all nice. The first set of keys they gave us only worked for the first day and they had to fix them the next day. Overall good stay for the cheap price. read more

Awesome. Clean. Friendly service. Wendi is great at the front desk. For a budget type hotel it's fantastic. Huge breakfast buffet. They have a little bit of everything. Kept clean and filled. Definitely a plus to a stay here. Coffee was especially appreciated. Nice tables to relax and enjoy. The room was huge. Comfortable bed, firm but plush. Five giant pillows. We had a king whirlpool room. Whirlpool is really just a regular tub with jets. Nice bathroom though. Big and super neat. No mildew etc. I used to work in a hotel as a night auditor so I'm super picky. Room inspections were part of my gig. This place passed with flying colors. That says everything you need. read more

The place is clean, service was quick and pleasant. Rooms was big. Beds were too hard for me. The shower curtain was worthless, It didn't keep water in, it actually made quite the mess. The fridge froze everything we had inside. Breakfast was good but it was a repeat everyday. Coffee was excellent! read more

Read all the reviews and find the trend. You might stay here and have no issues at all. But if you do have an issue, management and staff will do absolutely nothing to resolve it, only telling you that you can "deal with it or check out". Once you do find an issue, you realize that you are not a guest for whom the manager (Jennifer Carbajal) or staff will help to resolve the issue, rather you are paying for the luxury of Jennifer tolerating your presence until you become a hassle. When my room had an obnoxiously loud toilet that could be heard in the hallway with all doors closed I reported it to the front desk that morning for resolution. When I returned to my room at noon the toilet was still loud as can be. I reported it to the front desk again and they said it was "within normal operations" and that "the maintenance man has gone home for the day". I asked the manager Jennifer to come to my room to listen to it. SHE REFUSED. My room was on the main floor 10 doors down from the desk, and she could not be bothered by my pedantic request. I asked for another room and was told they were "full". THIS WAS A LIE. When I called corporate later to complain they said there were rooms available. Jennifer later changed her story and said "there are no 2 queen rooms available before 3pm". Why is it so hard to just offer another room after 3pm? It was already afternoon and would not have been a big deal. Tristain (sp?) then said "Why are you complaining, YOUR DADDY paid for your room". I was shocked. Yes, this room was being paid for by our family's business account as I was on a work trip home, but that was just a hateful statement by a hate-filled person. Jennifer continued the theme by yelling at me, gesturing wildly at me, and pointing her finger in my face in a very aggressive manner. I called my father since the room was on his business account and they yelled at him, and 80 year old veteran, and kicked him out. I was told to "deal with it or leave" so I left. I don't need this negative energy. I made a complaint with Best Western Corporate, but since this is an independently operated hotel they have no recourse. Unless the owner deals with the manager/staff issue they will persist. All I wanted was a simple resolution to a simple issue, fix the toilet or give me another room. That simple request should not cause staff to have an utter meltdown. READ THE REVIEWS AND FIND THE COMMON THREAD. JENNIFER IS AN INCOMPETENT MANAGER AND HER STAFF RUNS AMOCK. YOU ARE NOT A GUEST YOU ARE ONLY TOLERATED UNTIL YOU HAVE AN ISSUE AND HTEN YOU ARE ASKED TO LEAVE SO THEY DON';T HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. I cannot repeat that enough. For record, I travel for work over 100 days per year. I am a deputy director of a government agency and a veteran. I stay at this hotel over 10 nights per year and have every year for the last 10 years when I visit home. I will never visit this hotel again. The better bet is to go to Joplin, where competition forces hotels to compete on hospitality. Since this is the only show in town they treat their customers like garbage. read more

If I could leave a zero star, I would. This hotel must be run be people that don't know the first thing about customer service. I was just forced to use the steps from the third floor with two large suitcases (I'm handicapped) and the general manager and front desk manger were very rude and sharp with me when I voiced my complaint. I had to just walk out as they were verbally assaulting me with their sorry excuses.. it's unfortunate that this community has to tolerate this dump and the low class people that run it. :( I wish that the kind people that put me up here could get a refund. read more

After promptly exiting the Neosho Inn dump, we drove right over to the Best Western Spring Lodge. So glad we did! Staff has been great! Their pool is still winterized, so they provided free passes to the YMCA, which by the way is a gem all by itself! We are here visiting family for a week with 3 children in tow. The Executive suite is heaven for elbow room, even with the pull out couch, King bed, 2 roll aways, and a conference table, we have plenty of room! It has a long countertop with sink, microwave, small fridge, coffee pot, and lots of drawers and cabinets. There's a dresser, an older tube tv, but works fine. This placea is superpic clean andand sharp! They actually clean the tv remotes here! Better than average free continental breakfast, includes pour waffles and biscuits and gravy. Warm cookies every eve at front desk. We're very happy so far. Here for a week. I'll update after we complete our stay if there's anything to add or change. read more

I stayed at their hotel last night because it was close to the casino and the casino hotel was booked. I should stayed at a hotel in Joplin. The room reeked and the bathroom mirror was dirty. I asked the Front Desk Clerk for room spray and Windex. he gave me this cheap crap in a can to clean the mirror and it didn't work and the room spray did not make the room smell better. I had to spray my perfume around the room. read more

I've stayed here many times for work in town. Great place, great breakfast, clean rooms, and most importantly -- absolutely awesome front desk staff -- they are all very nice, and very friendly and helpful. Russ and Joan in particular are absolutely wonderful people. The rest are great too, but I don't remember their names. And free, no password wifi to boot. Beware! I have traveled all over the country and stayed in 100s of hotels. Most of those experiences are neutral and not really worthy of mention. After a recent experience, I feel compelled to warn others about this hotel. In short, they refused to honor a prepaid reservation. For background, this is one of less than five hotels / motels in Neosho. It's the newest and the cleanest. My family and I have stayed here several times in the past but we will never stay again and we will caution our friends and family to do the same. We booked a room through a third party travel site, Priceline. We've used these sites 100s of times for more than 15 years without issue and expected the same outcome again. What happened was an experience I will use in customer service training for the rest of my life. The reservation was made and paid for in advance for a room with a king size bed and a pull out sofa. We had stayed in similar rooms at other regional hotels recently and the arrangement was great for us. The kids sleep on the pull out at night and a watch tv on the sofa during the day. So I paid for this room as described, completing the reservation right in front of the desk clerk. As soon as it was in, I told him to check. He tried to process the room purchase and told me it was declined for payment. There was no lack of funds so I called Priceline, who placed me on hold and then transferred my call to a Fairfield Inn. This was done while on speaker phone much to the amusement of the line that had formed behind me caused by the clerks inability to process the purchase. After 15 minutes of arguing, me showing him my paid itinerary, he reluctantly called the manager. The manager quickly walked him through the conflict, which had to do with a tax discrepancy, not a declined payment. After 30 minutes, he gave me a room key. I went down to look and it was not what I paid for. Instead of a king bed with pull out sofa, it was just a king bed with arm chair. The arm chair did have a nice matching ottoman. No sofa bed and no place for my kids to sleep. I went back to the desk and had to wait another 15 minutes in line, after which, the clerk asked me to wait again and let folks behind me ahead of me. I asked him to simply give me the correct room. No reason anyone should have to wait. He said he did and said the code from Priceline matched the chair room and not the more expensive sofa room. This is a classic bait and switch. So he called the manager again and told me she'd be coming in person. Before deciding to come in, she offered a double queen "to be nice" since I had kids. I didn't want her interpretation of kindness. I wanted what I paid for, value for value. Honest commerce. Meanwhile, I called Priceline for help. They argued with me, called the hotel and argued with them, hung up and called the hotel manager 30 minutes later. The manager and Priceline agreed to not honor the room they sold to a good faith customer and offered a refund. I spent the next two hours in 30 degree weather trying to get Priceline to help. They hung up on me more than ten times and even stopped answering altogether. My family in the car in freezing weather and Best Western, Jennifer, and Priceline refusing to do honest business. Never again. Jennifer will always be a model for my teaching of failed customer service. She was a person with power to do the right thing at a nominal "cost" (the more expensive room was $15-20 more but was vacant so no real cost) but choosing not to. Priceline will be an example of a big company who outsourced customer service to foreign countries where the people are not concerned with the conditions of their faraway customers. The phrase "I"m in freezing weather outside" seemed to have no meaning to them. They made me wait 30 minutes between calls, knowing the situation. They also knew it was approaching midnight where I was but is likely the middle of the day for them. As much as Priceline failed with service, most of the blame goes to Jennifer. She was the human being in front of a human being declining to honor a good faith purchase. I read more

Not bad for the price. I'm a hotel snob so I expected the worst- but the hotel was clean and had the basic amenities for &66 a night. I was working all day and only went back to clean up and sleep so it worked out. read more
