Also room had a stench in it and after we complained to front desk, were told that we weren't the 1st people to complain about the smell in that specific room. I stayed over the weekend at the Best Western Fort Lee Hotel in New Jersey. I have to say we had a wonderful experience at this hotel. Getting into the hotel was a little tricky because the parking lot is almost hidden that's why it's important to drive slowly when you get close to the hotel so you don't miss the entrance. A few people who stayed there said they passed the entrance their first time around. We didn't have to wait too long when we arrived and the check in process was relatively quick and easy. The hotel is right off the freeway. Our stay included free parking. They don't have a lot of parking spaces but we never had a problem finding a place to park. I would be giving this hotel a 5 star review if it wasn't for two things. The elevator didn't work so we had to carry our luggage up to the second floor. The air conditioning in the room on the second day stopped woking, but I think it was more that we didn't know how to work the remote control for the air conditioning. The fact that it was a little cooler outside is why it wasn't that big of an issue. We stayed for two nights. The room we stayed in we believe was a new part of the hotel. It was clean and very comfortable. The bathroom was beautiful. For being such a small hotel we were surprised by the fitness center. They had a lot of equipment and was very clean and organized. The fitness center had a time schedule of 7am - 10pm, but I was able to get in with my key card at 6am. They have 4 vending machines with drinks and snacks on our floor and two ice machines on each end our floor. Our stay included complementary breakfast from 7am to 10am and the breakfast was beyond our expectations. The food was very tasty and excellently prepared. They had everything from scrambled eggs with or without bacon, sausage, all different types of bread, various cereal, fruits, pastries, the ability to make your own waffles, yogurt, etc. The coffee and the drinks were very good and available 24 hours at the hotel. The staff was really good. Except for when we called to have someone help us with the air conditioning. They said someone would come to our room and no one came. But it was cool out so that didn't become a huge issue. We definitely got more than what we paid for at this hotel. It just doesn't have the appeal. Works for the price. But the place just screams hookers playground. The entrance off of Rt 4, could be better lit...I get how some people could think of it as the Bates Hotel, its very eery. But I can attest that the area is very safe. The hotel was ok, and clean. Good location as close to GWB and local nature preserve with hiking. No microwave, but our biggest disappointment was the breakfast. I understand the grab and go option but the Best Western website states that grab and go options at least would include water or juice and a piece of fruit. The breakfast was a tiny danish, a cookie and a granola bar. Not even remotely healthy and certainly not a reasonable breakfast. Having a family I probably would not have chosen this motel if I had realized how minimal the breakfast was as it didn't save time or money. read more

I booked a room at this hotel on the 4th of July weekend ( July 2-3rd) after driving 12 hours straight for a road trip I was doing. Upon arrival at Best Western Fort Lee around 3 AM I tried to check into my prepaid room and I was told by the man at the front desk that "all rooms are told out for tonight" He didn't even ask me my name or show him the reservation that I had with me. If all the rooms were sold out why would the website say there are available rooms? Anyways I call the hotel to get a refund for a room that I did not stay in. Fabreial the hotel manager told me that I was a no-call no-show even though I did show up, maybe not a check-in time but I showed up within the check-in time which is 3 PM - 3:30 AM. I stayed here for one night. Clean room, reasonable price, complimentary breakfast, friendly and helpful staff. Fitness center, located near section G, is pretty nice for a hotel. There is a treadmill, step machine, stationary bike, small apparatus for doing weight training, and water. The negatives include the following: mattress was pretty bad (extremely squeaky), walls are thin, the bathtub drained very slowly, and there's a lot of traffic noise from route 4. Stayed here when I had to interview for a job in NYC. For the price, I don't think you can beat it. $125/night. Free parking. Has wireless internet available. Cable TV. Convenient location, since it is just off the George Washington Bridge. Extra points to the front staff, who was extremely helpful in providing directions to the place as well as giving recommendations of restaurants to grab a quick bite to eat in the middle of the night. This was all done over the phone before I had even checked in. I arrived there around 11 pm-ish. Room was very clean, cozy and had a comfortable shower in the morning. They have complementary breakfast in the front office. Its a little awkward driving into the place, since the entrance is only accessible from the west-bound side of route 4. Looks like other people have missed it, and sometimes were forced to pay to cross the GW bridge as a result. Ouch! If you are coming in from the New Jersey side, you do not have to cross the GW bridge. So if you're ever unsure (its a little nerve wracking when you see all the toll signs quickly approaching on I-95), just pull over/take a local exit and call their front desk for directions. They'll guide you the rest of the way. Keep in mind that the exit from the hotel is likewise only headed west-bound, so you want to put that into consideration when planning your drive into the NYC. Bottom line, if you need an affordable room for a NYC, I highly recommend this place. read more

Mr. Kong claims to be a global thought leader in the hospitality industry. Obviously, Mr. Kong's leadership is not part of the equation when it comes to real guests at the Best Western chain. There is no accountability. Please read the other reviews before you go here. If they have not fixed the security issues and if accountability continues unaddressed. I restate on of my final paragraphs: "If this type of criminal activity is without accountability at the Best Western in Fort Lee then what else is on the table? Would the hotel respond if a violent crime were to be committed against a guest? Does the Best Western have any CC cameras? Are background checks conducted on staff?" _________________________________ I was contacted today by a guest who had an experience similar to mine. The Best Western Fort Lee is unaccountable for theft. My initial review is below. I will restate two points: 1. I sent an email to their CEO, David Kong who claims to be a world thought leader in the hospitality industry. He was unresponsive. Not a manager or any person of responsibility saw fit to contact me. Instead, what appeared to be a foreign call center read off what appeared to be a scripted response. 2. If Best Western Fort Lee has no CCTV or security measure, and is unwilling to take an action on a $800 theft, then what level if interest would they have in protecting a guest from a violent crime? The man at the front desk said the cleaning woman who was there would not be back until later in the week. He said she should turn it in, but maybe "put it in her locker for safe keeping". I called the Fort Lee police. The FLP also contacted the hotel. The theft was never resolved. Best Western took no responsibility. They did not appear to have interest in investigating an $800 theft from their room. They did not appear to have interest in addressing a specific complaint about staff integrity. The jacket was left hanging in the closet for 1 hour and gone, gone, gone... It was new and had been worn maybe 4 or 5 times. If this type of criminal activity is without accountability at the Best Western in Fort Lee then what else is on the table? Would the hotel respond if a violent crime were to be committed against a guest? Does the Best Western have any CC cameras? Are background checks conducted on staff? Keep in mind that this is the company led by industry leader David Kong. His words are empty if the parent company cannot control its franchises. This review is based on the scamming nature of the hotel and not so much the appearance, location, etc... After leaving the hotel (non-smoking room for people who don't smoke) there was a $250 charge being placed on top of the normal room rate for a smoking fee! Smoking fee for two people who don't smoke... Evidence was so properly placed such as ashes... I mean that's not at all what someone who is smoking in a non-smoking room would leave behind I'm going to assume ... they also had a picture of a bag on the wall... what is sad and comical at the same time is that these kind of hotels/motels are not to be trusted so to secure one's privacy you try and cover up locations that there may be an illegal camera of some sort but receive a smoking charge with no smell of smoke or air freshener... Of course, this has been contested with the credit card company and hope that the Corporate section of this establishment is clear that there are actually people who abide by the rules and get a non-smoking room for a reason. And per the review above, we also had the most amazing Alyssa to help us with nothing but a nasty attitude as well! No one told you to settle for a front desk position with Best Western toots! I have very mixed feelings about this place, but mainly negative feelings. When we first pulled in (right off the highway like a scary road trip movie), I thought good grief, this is going to be an unpleasant stay. However, when we walked into the lobby, we were greeted by a local rap artist who was extremely friendly and accommodating to our early check in. After receiving our room number and key cards, we made our way through the snowy parking lot and up the icy stairs to get to the second floor. There is no way to access the rooms from the lobby besides walking outside, which isn't pleasant when there was a recent snow storm. So the room was nice and clean when we walked in, which was a pleasant surprise given the location and appearance from the outside. It was also surprisingly quiet in the evening hours. The breakfast in the morning wasn't mind-blowing, but it was pretty standard - coffee, juice, cereal, yogurt, danish, oatmeal, waffle machine, and various other toastable carbs. So why was this an unpleasant experience, you might ask? I was in Fort Lee for a funeral, and I had requested a late checkout. The mass and speakers went longer than expected and there was a lunch right afterwards. I called the hotel hoping I could explain the situation, given my close relationship to the person who had passed away, knowing that the hotel was pretty empty. The guy who answered the phone told me that there were no exceptions and that I had to check out or be charged for an additional day. It seemed really quite heartless. So my boyfriend and I had to find a ride back to the hotel after the funeral limo had just dropped us off at the restaurant. We went into the lobby when we arrived and spoke with the hotel staff; when he recognized us, he kindly said we could have an extra couple hours to checkout. So then we got a ride back to the restaurant and made it to the lunch. After the lunch, we cleaned out the room, and that was it.... UNTIL... A week later I saw my credit card charge was almost $11 more than what I had booked the room for. I was wondering what caused the price change and called the Best Western. They had never given me a receipt for the room, but since it was such a difficult weekend for me, I hadn't even thought to ask for it. When I called the Best Western, I said they seemed to have charged me more for the room than what I had reserved it for and asked what the discrepancy was. He said it was too high to have been taxes, but it could have been a weekend fee that was added. I told him that I was given a price that was supposed to include all the taxes and fees. He put me on hold to look into it, and came back on the line to say that in fact it was the taxes. I didn't feel like arguing about $11, so I just said okay, but my guess is that this charge was tacked on at the end due to the late checkout. I would have appreciated some human compassion, and some honesty about the extra hotel charge. As a result, I will likely refrain from going to Best Westerns in the future, particularly this location, out of sheer principle. But for other folks thinking about staying here, it's fine for a weekend trip if you don't mind sleeping on the side of a major, busy route, where you can only exit going one way. read more

Pretty nice hotel, especially for the money. Room was very clean, a/c worked well (important cause it was really hot!) Nice free breakfast in the morning, and free wifi is offered in every room. I also forgot my toothbrush, but they give you a free one if you do, so I was happy about that! Very convenient to any part of NYC if you have a car (just a couple blocks from the GW bridge), and there is a lot of cheap gas in the area so you don't have to waste money on expensive gas in NY. I stead overnight at the Best Western Fort Lee on May 6th, 2013, while on a leisure trip to NYC. We chose to stay in New Jersey and take transportation to Manhattan. I checked in at about 1 AM. The desk clerk made an error with the room number so he actually ran to get me in the parking lot as I was walking to the room number given (it's exterior access by section). Besides this, the price was great and the room was very clean, free Wi-Fi and coffee in the morning. I recommend this place for someone travelling on a budget. read more

This was by far the worst Best Western that I have ever stayed at. The rooms were very small, and the location was very hard to get to. After we checked in we went to our room and realized that the floor in the bathroom was damp. We thought that the maid had not cleaned the room well but realized in the days to follow that the ceiling leaked in the bathroom when the guest upstairs took a shower. The floor in the bathroom was constantly wet and we could not be moved to another room because there were no vacancies. A gym is also advertised on the website which probably would have been semi-decent had the ceiling in that room had not been leaking as well. We could not use most of the equipment and had to deal with staff trying to clean up the mess. I was a little nervous because there was a television in the corner that was on and I wasn't sure if it was going to get wet and electrocute us. The only positive thing that I have to say about my stay is that the breakfast was pretty decent. It was nice to be able to have something to eat before we headed out for our day. I was very disappointed because I usually have good luck with Best Westerns, but in this case I was happy to go home because I could not stand staying in this hotel any longer. read more

I was recently in the city for Valentine's Day and was looking for a place to stay with a decent price and this hotel came up. I was only staying for one night and wasn't going to check in until late so I wasn't staying for long. Checked in around 10:00 pm for one queen bed room non smoking at entrance D. The room we stayed in was a perfect size for two and in good shape. The hallway smelt like smoke a little bit but that wasn't a big deal to us because the room didn't. I was pleased with my stay in the room. Workers were nice and professional. *Very easy location to get to when traveling in the city and looking for a decently cheap place to stay.* Maids were also very nice! Good place!! I have not personally stayed at this hotel, but I will tell you why i am giving them five stars. I had chance to reserve a room here for a night via priceline.com. This was during the power outtage this month in the Bergen County area. I had been staying at the NYC Hilton Hotel in midtown earlier in the week until I was told they could not extend our stay due to over-booking (long story). In my desperation to get a good clean hotel for me, my mom and my two puppies, I found a good deal with a Best Western in Fort Lee. I spoke to "Rose", one of the hotel concierge staff, who was very helpful and informative from the start. I had opportunity to speak with her multiple times before the scheduled check - in day because I wanted to make sure that my mom and my puppies would be taken care of and have no problems checking in without me, as I would not be available at the check- in time. The entire staff at the hotel was very courteous and friendly over the phone, and I was confident that my mom and our dogs would be taken care of. The power was restored at my house unexpectedly, and so close our check in time! I called the hotel to let them know that the power at my house was restored and that I no longer needed the reservation. I also said that if they could not cancel last minute due to the policy, that i would understand. But Rose and the hotel management assured me that they can definitely cancel my reservation and issue us the full refund. First I had to call Priceline.com to let them know I no longer needed the reservation. In conclusion, I was able to cancel the reservation with no problem at all because the staff was willing to extend a courtesy to me and my family. Most hotels would've given me hell and charge me a penalty+ the first night's rate +taxes. However, Rose and the management staff at Best Western were more than accomodating. I would highly recommend this hotel because you can tell a lot about what you should expect from your hotel experience by the professionalism and courtesy of their staff. Besides, what I hear is that this hotel is very clean, theres free breakfast, the Wi-Fi is free and they have a gym and it's very close to the George Washington Bridge. For the price, what more can you ask? I have stayed her several times for work travel...it is convenient and decent price. I had even joined the rewards program thinking I would continue to use the location because I frequently travel to NY for work. I will not stay again after this most recent stay. My bed was disgusting...the mattress cover was COVERED in spots and stains. It clearly had not been changed or washed in months. I took pictures and walk down to the desk and showed the young man. He was as disgusted as I was and he immediately gave me a different room. I was given a room next to the vending machine on the second floor. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. However, I was unable to sleep all night as the vending machine was 2 feet from my window and made loud noises continually all night. In addition to the noise of people talking to each other and on their cell phones when they went to the machine, the vending machine made noises similar to an ice machine all night when it was not dispensing beverages. I didn't notice the noise initially as I had on the NCAA Championship game with the audio high and then I watched other TV for an hour or so. However, after I turned the TV off, I heard the ice machine like noises. I turned on the TV to mask the sound but I had to turn the volume on too high for me to sleep. I didn't attempt to change rooms as I was told by the person at the front desk when I checked in that there were no other rooms available. I tried sleeping in my car but it was very uncomfortable. I went back to my room and slept in the bathroom with the door closed as it was at at the back of the room. I went to the front desk to complain about my stay in the morning but was told the manager, Justin, wouldn't be in until 11:00 pm and that he would call me. 2 days later, after not hearing from him, I called the Best Western corporate office and was told there was nothing they could do. It is not possible for the hotel to not know that the room next to the vending machine is very difficult to sleep in. Yet they continue to rent this room to unsuspecting customers. Having to sleep in the bathroom was the worst hospitality experience I've ever had. The lack of professionalism of the manager to contact me after I left a note requesting to be contacted and calling 2 more times and leaving messages for him as well as Corporate telling me they sent him an email and I'd hear back in 7 days speaks to their lack of care and respect for their customers. Insultingly, corporate offered me additional loyalty points for my experiene. I was astonished and told the representative that this is the first time I've ever stayed at a Best Western and I would never stay at one again and I would dissuade anyone considering staying at one to not do so. read more
