Came here with my mom and aunt for a place to stay for the night after going to pnc to see the Jonas Brothers. Checked in, people were friendly, all smelled clean and sanitized. place is about 5-10 minutes from PNC so it is awesome. Room was great and clean. plenty of parking. Breakfast was grab and go, and it was okay. Hope they realize that some may eat in their rooms now, but it's all good. The beds were a little hard. So y'all ready for this? First impressions are everything. As soon as we walked in, the young girl at the desk was slouched over as if she was in between a nap or just dead! I'm mean she had no care in the world. Customer service skills??? Please! Homegirl hated her job...I mean she HATED working for the Best Western. I get it because the property could use some TLC. However, we had no choice but to stay there due to our central air dying on us last minute. Okay back to miss dead thing- I've experienced bad customer service but she was the Queen of bad service. Barely opened her mouth, she didn't really have an attitude but she wasn't"thrilled" to see us either. I think they should do her a favor and let her go because it's clear she don't want to be there. I would never recommend this hotel. We should of stayed home and suffered in the heat. The property itself is old with a horrible smell as soon as you walk in. They should really just throw this place in the garbage. The bathroom was the pits. Our refrigerator didn't work. The housekeeping ladies were extremely loud early in the morning. Seriously! We could use one less BW!!! I wish we never came. This is why I only stay at Hilton's or Embassy Suites but due to it being last minute, we had to stay at the bates motel. Pretend this is -1 stars since the negative sign is not an option. I booked two rooms for a one night stay to attend my cousin's funeral, wake and mass with my husband and two adult children. Our check out time is 12pm. When we got back to the hotel at 11:50am to pick up the rest of our belongings, we noticed that housekeeping had already been to my son's room. They threw out things from the room that he wanted to bring home. It was NOT yet 12pm and we had not yet returned our room keys to the front desk. When we told the receptionist, she apologized but said there was nothing she could do to compensate us for the items that were thrown out because we booked through Orbitz. WHAT???? When I challenged her and asked why it would matter whether I booked through Orbitz or Expedia or directly through them, she then backtracked and said that had we booked directly through them, she could have offered me a discount to offset the cost. Are you kidding me? Aren't your employees the ones that went into the rooms I paid for and went through my son's things without my knowledge nor his and decided everything was garbage? It didn't bother me so much that the lamp on my side of the night stand in my own room didn't work or that the tissues box was empty when we first checked in. Those were oversights and minor inconveniences but how Best Western responded to me shows a blatant disregard for their guests and they pretty much admitted that if you didn't book directly through them, then they don't care what happens to you. This was my first experience with Best Western. Unfortunately, also my last. You violate my trust and don't own up to it, you don't get a second chance!!! I arrived before check in time and the reception working on April 25,2018 morning shift was absolutely pleasant and accommodating, she managed to give me a room before the allowed checking time. Thank you for your help. Room appeared to be clean but when i woke up i found a small bug walking on me. Didnt make a big deal and checked out. Today i woke up with what appears to be bed bug bite all over my body. I have taken the necessary precaution to ensure that the little critters didnt decide to go on a road trip with me. I spent the day In Hazlet doing some work for a client. My Jeep's battery died while I was there, so I was stuck in town overnight. This place was right across the street from the Jeep dealership. The young lady at the front desk was very helpful with my questions about the area, and where to eat very close by. The hotel & room was fine. It definitely could use a good updating & get rid of the 80's decor. The mattress was actually pretty good. Not too firm, and not too soft. The free breakfast in the morning was convenient. My only compliant is, there were no working USB charging ports in the room. There was one of those makeshift USB hubs on the nightstand, plugged into the wall, but it didn't work. I had to use one on the back of the TV that barely did the job of keeping my iPhone charged. It's an okay hotel. It was fine for an unplanned stay, since there wasn't anything much to chose from in the area, and for one night. I knocked off one star for the USB situation. read more

The Best Western is what you'd expect...basic, clean, and overall ok. It's located near a lot of the N. Jersey shore points. The room was clean, and had what we needed. Basic TV, decent Internet (use a VPN, it's not secure), and they have American breakfast each morning. The room A/C needed some help, and they addressed that the first full day we were there. The staff was helpful. No in-room safe. The beds are HARD! Be aware. The morning breakfast area is not big enough, and it gets very busy. I really appreciated the nice friendly manner of the front desk host! I just want others to know how sleepless our night was due to the uncomfortable, old mattress and rock hard pillows. We didn't sleep well as we felt the springs and hardness of the mattress. The air conditioner was very loud and scared us every time it kicked on. It wasn't a cheap expense to stay a night and I feel they could get nicer mattresses and better pillows along with a quieter air conditioning system. My expectations weren't high to begin with and I wasn't surprised or disappointed either way. We had a two double bed room on the first floor. The room itself was relatively clean but there was no comfort at all. There was a desk chair and the beds, all of which I would consider "extra firm" which is fine except, again, there was no relaxation while in the room. Jokingly, I told my wife she could choose which bed she wanted. Well, it was obvious she chose the sex bed; less firm, squeaky and lopsided. It's been a joke between us ever since. This hotel met and exceeded our expectations for our money. The room was clean and fresh! Extra towels and blankets were brought on request. Everyone was so friendly and the lobby and breakfast area were clean and cozy always being wiped down and kept fresh. Let's talk food allergies! The gentleman who was taking care of breakfast this weekend was named Angel, he was so friendly and went out of his way to make people comfortable. There is a sign on their microwave that says gluten and dairy free option available upon request. Being that we have issues with both I was so happy to see this on a continental breakfast! He brought our gluten free chex cereal and almond milk! It wasn't soy! It was almond! This meant a lot to us and I will return if we choose this area of Jersey for our next stay. Convenient location for my purposes, clean though visibly worn out. There is plenty of parking and the complimentary breakfast is a plus. It is within walking distance of a coffee shop, a few restaurants as well as a grocery and liquor store. Most notable from my four day visit: in the middle of the night the bathroom fan turned on by itself. My stay here at this BW was simply okay until my last morning there ..... I woke up to a bed bug on my sheets. (see pic above) The breakfast here is okay, some of the items were too salty. The outside of his hotel isn't really maintained well, so there's weeds everywhere and cigarette butts in the flower pots. Stayed here over the weekend with a couple friends. The hotel seems decent at first, a few sketchy people hanging out in the lobby. Shortly after checking into the room my friend discovered an empty condom wrapper in the nightstand drawer. We ended up getting the room comped, however the attitude of the guy working the front desk was atrocious. When we asked to speak with the supervisor he refused, and when we asked if he was the manager or supervisor his answer was "sort of, I don't want to confuse you". My girlfriend and I went to a wedding in Hazlet last weekend and stayed at the Best Western. This was an interesting experiment on the difference between Trip Advisor and Yelp. While this hotel has a 4-star average across over 160 reviews on Trip, it is a tepid 2-star on Yelp. Spoiler: Yelp was more accurate. Our room was non-smoking, but had a very pronounced cigarette odor. Around 1am, we heard a group of younger people, presumably from the hood, running through the halls, laughing, screaming, banging on doors, etc. I called the front desk and the front desk person told us to wait for them to go to bed. I don't blame him for not wanting any part of that. But still. The next morning when I went to take a shower, there were hairs, presumably from the pubic region, in the shower. Pro-tip: bring shower sandals circa college and your own toiletries. The television remote was also broken and the water from the sink was not drinkable. Pro-tip: Bring your own bottled water before you get to the hotel because leaving the hotel is a pain since New Jersey outlawed left-turns. The refrigerator and air conditioning worked so I'll give them a star for that. All-in-all, rather disappointed as I paid almost $250 for 2 nights. It's just a shame that the going rate for an acceptable hotel in this day-and-age is $300/night. For anything less you are really rolling the dice. Stay here if you must spend the night in Hazlet; otherwise, find another hotel. Don't trust anything you read on Trip Advisor. read more

I was scared before coming here...I read a lot of reviews about this place, which seemed all very hit or miss. For me, everything worked out just fine. This was again another time where I feel like other people who review this place are kind of being a little ridiculous. My stay was cheap... I paid $200 for two nights, which included the taxes. I somehow landed a room that was on the second floor, the last door all the way at the end, kind of tucked away behind a wall. My room faced the woods as well. That made me happy off the bat. The room was small, but I didn't mind that. I was there to shower and sleep. My room was clean and smelled nice when I walked in. I inspected everything (because I'm weird like that), all seemed fine. The sink is outside the bathroom, immediately when you walk into your room. I noticed on other sites that people think that's weird...I think it's a good idea. No steamy mirrors while getting ready, or waiting for someone else to get out of the shower to use the sink area. Everything worked fine in my room. The bed is firm, which works for some people... it may not for others. I will suggest that you might want to bring extra pillows with you if you like normal sized pillows. Their pillows are on the smaller side, but I didn't bitch about it. I don't sleep well when I'm not home (not the hotel's fault), but I will say... I heard absolutely nothing through the night. I wasn't woke up or kept up by any noises. Everyone there was extremely quiet. I know this may not be the case all the time, but things sure as hell worked in my favor as far as that goes. I was also happy that I had a little baby fridge to keep my water bottles in. I made the most out of the continental breakfast. I was satisfied with it. It was a pretty decent assortment. People bitched about the eggs, but eggs being made in that large amount that quickly aren't freshly cracked eggs...it's the stuff from the carton. I know this having worked at a hotel before. Who cares? There was also sausage, assorted yogurt, english muffins, different breads, muffins, danishes, assorted cereal, fruit, juices, tea, oatmeal....I loved making my own waffle. You had the choice between strawberry or plain... I thought it was pretty damn good. The coffee was great too. The staff was really on top of keeping it together. All in all... If you want to pay an affordable rate ($76 pretax for me with AAA rate) for a king bed with 5 pillows for a comfortable night's sleep, you can't get much better than here. Others wrote of watery eggs in the complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby (running from 6:30 - 9:30) which I concur but the banana walnut mini muffin was tasty. Others wrote of the mini fridge missing but mine was there. I also got a cable TV with over 50 channels, free wireless internet, and a lovely window view overlooking the parking lot. This hotel has horrible service. The staff is very unaccommodating and uncooperative. When there was a flood in the bathroom they could not wake up the maintenance worker, running low on towels, gave me a plunger, and only had a mop not a mop bucket. When telling my friends (who were also customers) the next day about my experience, a worker in an extremely condescending rude tone, told me the manager had heard my conversation from the night before and I should think about who is around me before I speak. I wouldn't normally rate a Best Western with 5 stars but this is extraordinary circumstances. I needed a hotel room near matawan area for a family reunion. I needed a suite so I wouldn't have to book 2 rooms and I needed something with a reasonable price point (so no westins or such) Was the hotel kind of old and in need of an upgrade? yes. Was the person at the front desk the first night a jerk? yes Did the day manager not only make up for it but go above and beyond? double yes. The room was dated but surprisingly clean. I tell you these franchise hotels need to employ nicer staff. They need to know how to represent the brand better. If I pay a certain amount I expect a certain quality. Once we entered our room at check in, the room had a musty stale smell Thank God we travel with room air freshener. As we are in the middle of nowhere we were out front mingling with other guests here for the same event and the night manager kept watching us like we were doing something wrong. No one was loud or disrespectful but he claimed someone was going to call the police if we didn't quiet down or disburse. So flash forward to this morning. As a group of us got off the elevator same night manager is standing watching us grab the complementary breakfast as we head out the door for the beach. It's like really sir , as much money as we paid beyond the regular rate, we should be able to eat whatever we like. The hotel is pretty much at capacity so he should expect that more people than normal will be partaking in the "free" breakfast... so not happy with these services. I waited more than two weeks to post this, hoping the hotel, or Best Western Corporate, woud make this situation right. The hotel itself (Manager Nicole Monaco) has refused all contact, and I received an offer of a $30 Best Western gift card from Corporrate. In a nutshell: Booked one KING room for May 26. Breakfast was to be included. Total charge: $166. Kind of pricey, but it was holiday weekend. Upon checkin, we discovered we had ONE DOUBLE BED. For two adults. Went to desk to get it straightened out -- they were booked solid, couldn't move us, and told me it was Expedia's fault, although it says clearly on my Expedia confirmation ONE KING STANDARD. So it was NOT Expedia's fault. Got up early for a sunrise service at Sandy Hook. Went down for "free breakfast." there was no breakfast. The desk clerk said the "breakfast woman" had not shown up for work. On checkout I asked for compensation. Nancy and Jessica at the front desk said they didn't have the authority. I asked what the difference in the room I paid for and the room i received was. Nancy said $40. Plus the $10 I figured the beakfast was worth. I was not looking for a comped stay; i was looking for compensation totalling about $50. This hotel has never once contacted me, although Corporate kept trying to have me settle with them directly. i have e-mailed and snail mailed numerous times; I have received NOTHING from the hotel. Expedia says it is the hotel's fault. Corporate finally emailed me offering me a $30 gift card to another BW hotel! Not acceptable. At this point, I will never stay in another BW hotel. Am I crazy, or should this have been an easy matter to settle? You booked me in the wrong room type! You promised breakfast as part of the room rate and offered none! Make it right, for heaven's sake! How hard is that? WANTED TO ADD: aFTER ALMOST A MONTH OF BACK AND FORTH WITH CORPORATE bw, THEY AGREED TO SEND ME A bw "GIFT CARD" WORTH $50 WHICH i BELIEVE THE WHOLE THING WAS WORTH. Nothing swanky. Stayed a few nights for business and it's pretty close to the train station. There is a grocery store and a few restaurants nearby which make it an okay location. The staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast was simple items and nice to have. The taxi service they have on the card sleeve is the one I used to get around because it was the cheapest. read more

Stayed at the Best Western in Hazlet, NJ for the Dave Matthews Band show in Holmdel after booking a few days prior on Priceline. I took the advice of others and skipped breakfast, so I can't review that, but the location and cleanliness couldn't be beaten....there's a Dunkin Donuts next door and the staff was friendly. This is a standard travel hotel. I felt safe staying for 2 days with my daughter as there's a lobby you must pass through to the rooms. It was clean enough for short stays. The front desk manager Nancy is a very sweet lady. She knows a lot about the area and can recommend good places to dine. That's a good thing since most of the places recommended on the BW website are closed now. read more

Our Family booked 4 rooms for 6/24. Reasonable rates. After reading recent posts on TA & Yelp, we were concerned what we would find. After checking in, we each found our rooms clean & comfortable. Needed to find a hotel in the area due to being in the area for one night. I found this place on Priceline for under 100$. I wasn't looking for crazy amounts of amenities or a 5 star hotel just needed a place to rest my head. First thing I noticed was this hotel was extremely out of date. Looks like it hasn't been updated since the late 80's. They free breakfast was okay. And the little room they call a gym had 2 working machines in it. Overall the worst part about my stay was the air quality. I felt that it was musty and old smelling throughout my stay. That's my one and only true complaint. read more
