Approximately a week before I booked a room at the Best Western Newberry in La Pine Oregon, I was notified that my cousin was in ICU in Bend- to say this was shocking would be an understatement. I rushed to Bend to be at her bedside, she was only 51, and sadly she passed three days later. I drove approximately 200 miles home to pick up my husband and son and put together a few things. Also I booked a room with Best Western Newberry because I needed to go back to La Pine for an impromptu funeral for my cousin. Once I checked into the hotel and I had seen the room I was given, I was appalled! I then requested another room, but I was informed there were no available rooms, except for possibly one that wouldn't even be open until Thursday at 2, but I would have to be out by 11, then move again to a another room that would possibly be open on Friday at 2. You can see by the attached photos unsafe exposed ducting, wires, window screen and not mention the dirty moldy stall shower. The air conditioning unit sometimes worked and I did call the front desk to asked for maintenance. I was informed not to adjust the thermostat, there were problems with the unit and it would freeze over. Therefore it was either hot in the room or freezing. I could not even open the window to cool the room off due to window screen being so damaged that insects or whatever could get in and also I was concerned for my family's safety. The Wi-Fi was horrible! Completely unstable, it continuously dropped, I would have to re-login so often that I actually memorize the login and password. The Wi-Fi could not even support my own logged in channels on the TV. I was so fed up. I just used my own data so my son could watch shows and our cell phones could have internet. There were no power sources near the bed whatsoever so charging our phones, etc., was ridiculous. I truly did not feel safe in the room with all the issues, especially the exposed wires. Unfortunately, I felt had no other choice but to stay in the room I was given. I had to be in La Pine. I called the hotel and spoke with the manager after we checked out and got home. The hotel manager stated that the room that I thought I booked was misadvertised on the Best Western Newberry hotel webpage and I was actually booked for ADA room. Shel also stated that I should have expressed more of the issues with the room during my stay and because I did not she could only offer me $100 or $150 gift card towards another stay with best Western Hotels. I respectfully declined. I truly don't understand what difference it would have made for me to express "more of the issues" with the room, also not to mention I would hope that a guest who actually needed a ADA room would not have to accept the accommodations that I was given as their only choice. I would think at the very least some form of courtesy notice from the hotel explaining the condition of the room prior to my stay would have given me a choice to change the room or even upgrade before the hotel was completely booked. I was under complete distress and did not want to cause any other conflict that may have resulted in no place for my family and I to stay for my cousin's funeral. I chose Best Western hotel because I am a Best Western member and for over $700 for 3 nights I could depend on Best Western for decent room during this devastating, heartbreaking tragedy. Overall, it is an OK hotel. The lobby is nice and clean with a view to the pool through the breakfast area. The lady at the desk was pleasant and accommodated my requests. The room was clean and decent sized. A few worn things that need some work (bottom of bathroom door and the couch need replacing). The downspout ended up being a bit noisy with the unexpected downpour. Breakfast was really decent. Eggs, potatoes, biscuits, sausage, gravy, cereal, waffles, pastries. Don't recall fresh fruit, but wasn't looking for it. All was fresh and hot. Fruit juices, they could turn down the mix a bit in my opinion. Given the location that's pretty far from a bigger city, it's a really good option. read more

We just stayed here for a few days. It's well kept, clean, the room was quiet, upgraded to nice new granite countertops in the bathroom, nice tiled shower/tub area, a nice tv with Direct TV channels and modern AC unit with wall controls. Oh, they have waffle maker that Best Western are known for! Excellent waffles and good breakfast food choices. The only negative might be there isn't an elevator but the stairs aren't steep. If you can't use stairs, request a lower level room. I wished I'd taken pictures of the room before we unpacked! I'm a Diamond rating with Best Western and was impressed. The two ladies working there are professional but very friendly to do business with. read more

Paper thin walls, we could hear the people next door fighting and loud music. We were charged upon check in and charged when we checked out. I called the hotel and the front desk young women was unprofessional and really frustrating to work with. I explained the circumstances and she said I don't see two charges, if I don't see it I cant help you. Our confirmation email quotes is a final price, the hotel charged us $40 more, she again said "I don't know what to tell you, you will have to call tomorrow and speak to a manager" Now we are talking about almost $600 in double charge. The bank states this was not entered as a hold or deposit, it was two separate and complete charges. Get it together Best Western Newberry La Pine. It would not have been so bad had the front desk attendant had not been so uncaring and did not want to be bothered. read more

This is a well deserved 5 star hotel. The lady at the front desk was extremely nice and accommodating, she provided me with pool towels upon arrival and gave me extra blankets as well. Check in was a breeze. We got a room upstairs (note there is no elevator) but this did not affect us though. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, the room had a fridge and microwave. The bathroom was very clean. Breakfast was perfect, there was yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, eggs, bacon, potatoes and so much more. We were extremely happy with this hotel. I will say though the location is in a small town with not much variety when it comes to eating out, especially on a Sunday evening. We got here a little late (this was a pit stop) nothing was really open for dinner except for fast food which we are not fans of. Just make sure you plan accordingly if you plan on staying here. read more

This best western has become somewhat of a home away from home. We travel a lot to see our parents in California so this is a good halfway stop. The breakfast in the morning is great. We had eggs, sausage, muffins, generic brand of a sweet yogurt, coffee and tea. People remembered us just the second time we went back about a week after. They gave us the same room and we were very comfortable. The pool and hot tub look really great, highchairs in breakfast room a plus! UPDATE: We've now stayed here 4 times in 4 months and every room we've stayed in is nice, clean, and has space for our portable crib. However, staff changes have been a disappointment. The lady we'd grown close to left for better pay elsewhere and unfortunately the new breakfast staff member we encountered was just not as kind or friendly to us customers. When a teanage customer almost broke the waffle-maker, staff lady was (reasonably so) upset but unfortunately she said some rather mean things to the customer in everyone's hearing and shortly after I heard her tell a colleague in the hallway that she just couldn't take it anymore - I don't blame anyone for a bad day but it left me concerned for the general environment and unfortunately tainted our experience. read more

Uneatable breakfast, check in desk clerks wore their masks down over their chins with mouth and nose uncovered ( During world wide pandemic) .They tried to rip my husband off said he requested 2 rooms and that the price he was quoted was for 2 nights not 3. We have stayed here before. The town is small. This hotel has always been clean and the staff has always been friendly. Checking in we usually sgare a cookie. :) Rooms are spacious and clean. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. They have continental breakfast in the mornings, which includes hot and cold items. Parking is easy and plentiful. Not child friendly. We stayed at this location with our children after looking at pictures and seeing the pool. The pool ended up being adults only which totally defeated the main reason I decided on this location. Rooms are not soundproof like was indicated. Within an hour of arriving we got a noise complaint over "thumping" because my toddler had tripped and fell. We had to go ask for towels the second morning we were there because they did not bring new ones and the front desk people acted as if it was something they weren't suppose to do. Can't say enough about the service, rooms, and overall experience I have had while staying here. I have a daughter who lives in town, and the staff has been more then accommodating-all of them! The last time I was in town they were booked but had a last minute cancellation and took the time to stay in touch with me and were able to find a room for the weekend. I don't sleep well so being up all hours of the night I drink coffee, the gentlemen working nights asked if he could make some fresh for me, and found my fact coffee creamer. read more

Decided to stay here last minute on a road trip to get some rest with my daughter. I called on the phone to reserve the room and they charged my card in total. I get in late and they insist on taking my card again and I try to clarify I've already been charged and the guy sort of brushes me off. I was tired and needed to get my daughter in bed. They have no elevator. The bathroom was clearly not cleaned, water in the tub, dirty towels, long black hairs in the sheets. I let the staff know upon check out. I find out next day that they charge you twice and claim that the second charge will drop off in 5 days. Well I've stayed at many hotels and had to pay a deposit that gets reversed at check out, but never heard of being charged twice and out the money completely. I called and the man was completely condescending and rude. Overall terrible experience and do not recommend. read more

I checked into the Best Western Newberry in La Pine, OR around 11pm. I checked the pillows and sheets before going to bed and all looked clean and nice. When getting up at 2am to go to the restroom I noticed something on my pillow. After looking more I found several of these bedbugs, all sizes, in the pillows and the covers. I checked the other bed and found more of them. I killed a few and left on rag in room and took one in a cup to front desk. The girl was nice and changed my room for me. When calling to followup the next day the guy kinda laughed it off and told me they checked the room and it was a local tick. I thought it was disrespectful and rude. If I said this was the best place in town, it would NOT be an exaggeration. It's the ONLY place to stay. The rest of the motels/hotels are 'also rans'. We stayed at one near the end of town last year because there WAS no other place. WHAT A FLEA TRAP! They say this hotel is 15 years old but you'd never know it. It's been kept up wonderfully. It's behind a McDonald's so you have to watch for the turn-off. We've stayed in a suite both times. First time because that's all they had. Second time because we liked the FIRST time - ha. A bit spendy but what a luxury to have two rooms plus a kitchen like space with microwave. They serve a "Continental Breakfast" that's more then the usual sweet rolls and coffee. There's waffles (like almost all classy places have), plus an array of cereal and other carb offerings. Keep in mind you're in La Pine, OR, where you're lucky there's ANY place to stay, and having said that, it's first class all the way. It almost looks and feels out of place given the atmosphere of the rest of the town. We'll stay again next year. Just make sure you make your reservations ahead of time. Even when there are NO weddings going on, this place seems to fill up fast. read more

This place is by far the best hotel we have stayed at this past week. We were traveling from Washington and stopped here on our way back to California. The front desk lady was extremely nice and helpful, she tended to by request for a room down stairs with no hesitation. They also offer breakfast, REAL BREAKFAST. Like waffles, eggs, sausage, biscuits, etc. And the beautiful lady preparing breakfast is so kind, she looks like she enjoys her job, which is always so pleasant. I am completely satisfied with my stay here and I will definitely pin this on my map as a place to stay again! Thank you so much ladies for making our stay, stress free & relaxing. read more

Hosted my daughters birthday here yesterday and it was amazing! the conference room was so nice and big, perfect for a big group, pool and hot tub were clean and refreshing, although the heater in the pool is currently broken all of the kids still enjoyed it. Beds were super comfy and we woke up to a nice breakfast being served downstairs. They do a good breakfast, eggs sausage and biscuits and gravy, waffles etc. not your normal muffins and bagels you see at most hotels. Staff was very accommodating and so nice. will definitely stay here in the future even though its 5 minutes from my house read more

Maybe the best hotel around the area ! We got a room in their newest wing. The room was clean, new and spacious. The lobby is very cozy and has a bed & breakfast feel to it. On 11/15/2021 I stayed until 11/21/2021 to visit my son who lives in La Pine Oregon I've stayed at this hotel for the last 3 years every time I visit but this time was the worst stay EVER only a few employees were following the CDC guidelines on mask REQUIREMENTS and one house cleaner was coughing really bad and was wearing NO MASK I addressed this issue to the front desk and nothing changed I've lost a friend who battled COVID-19 and people need to set aside there personal beliefs of the virus and I mean the staff there at Best Western La Pine Oregon!!!! It's sad because this is a great hotel and has a great staff just a few staff members that need to either be educated or unemployed it's a blessing that I am to travel again and it should be a blessing. For them to able to return to work we all need each other right now but the general manager has showed me NO respect in even trying to address this issue very unhealthy attitude towards complaints well They have lost my business I will stay in any other hotel other than Best western thank you to the ignorant staff that has no care about others or there complaints.... read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. It was an unplanned stop, due to weather on US 97, and I was afraid of what kind of hotel I'd find in La Pine. Seeing a Best Western, I figured it couldn't be too bad, but thought I'd get screwed on price. Surprisingly, no. In fact, I wasn't even charged the $10 for an extra person. The gentleman who checked me in was very friendly, and got the current weather report and forecast while I wrote down my information. The room (and the entire hotel, for that matter) was clean and comfortable all around. The Continental breakfast - which I'd expected to be day-old croissants and mini-muffins - was actually pretty good, with waffles, cereals, fruit, oatmeal...and croissants and mini-muffins. There was no need to roll the dice again on breakfast in La Pine. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the light soundproofing and thin walls...which I realize is common to hotels, but I didn't want to get up at 5:30 when the alarm went off in the room next door. Didn't make use of the pool or exercise area, just based on timing, but if I ever have the need to stay overnight in LaPine again, it will be here. read more

Walked into the lobby- not what I expected. It was very nice- large planked wood floors, fireplace conversation nooks, the smell of fresh baked cookies and a very friendly & welcoming Desk Clerk. Check in was quick & efficient. Our room was very clean, roomy and the bed was oh so comfy! I have to complemented pillows & bedding too- very soft & cozy. Breakfast was another pleasant surprise- cereal & hot food was available & the lady preparing the dishes was very efficient & friendly. All this for a fair price. The perfect manifestation of the American Travel Motel. Just what you want (pool, hot tub, free breakfast, WiFi) done well . Clean and well maintained with nearby restaurants and markets. Their on-line reservation thing didn't work too well, so we called and made our reservation. Leave Portland in the AM, hike the Pauline lakes and lava flows, check-in, walk to a decent restaurant, tub it, crash, pick up supplies the next morning at the Ray's across the street and hit the road. Clean and friendly! We were towed to Newberry Station at midnight when our truck broke down on the pass from Medford. The staff was incredible and our single king room was spotless and spacious. The next day we had to wait until the evening for another tow truck to take us back the 140 mikes to Medford and the staff was very courteous as we waited in the lobby all day with no where to go. We stayed another night on our way back through after getting our truck repaired because we knew the rooms were nice and clean from our previous stay and we were not disappointed! read more

We stopped here for the night last month on the 19th. Nice clean rooms, comfortable beds, fairly quiet, nice staff, a bit on the pricey side though. They offer a fairly extensive continental breakfast in the morning which is very nice. More than just your basic cereal and muffins. That was a nice surprise. This was so nice to have near after getting detoured from a snowing, blustery campsite at Paulina lake. beautiful campsite, but impossible to camp at with a low of 15 degrees and wind! Yay Best western! The lady at the desk was very nice and welcoming, and the inside was nicely done. Our room had the best shower, the reg. pantene travel shampoos, and cozy pillows. The complimentary breakfast had make your own waffles, very cool, and of course bagels, fruit and juices. the person there had to teach bill how to use the waffle maker, and I laughed at him until she had to show me how to use the juice machine. Res a king, given a queen, told it was oversize, it wasn't. Candy & other food under bed, our service dog got to it & we cleaned it up. When pulling back comforter found hair on sheets. Told the reception, she offered to vacuum but we had already gotten it cleaned up. No offer to change room. Very tired from long stressful drive & added pressure to find a place to eat, most closed. During check out he took a long phone call, then started to work with me, but wanted me to step aside while he helped a man behind me. I said I've already been patient 10 minutes. He didn't say what he would do. Later on the phone I told him on phone if our dog would have eaten that it could have killed or hurt them, then they'd have a big vet bill. This is our worst experience at a hotel ever. Travel min 90 days in hotels per yr. It was disgusting. Unsanitary food others can handle at breakfast. Doors at front are unlocked all night, anyone can walk in. The person monitoring the front is in an office, very unsafe! read more

This place rocks! The receptionist at the desk was very polite! Served fresh baked cookies for everyone, and showed us where the hot tea, coffee and cocoa were at because we were cold from traveling. She also told us about the complimentary breakfast which includes real food like eggs and meat!They have an indoor pool and spa, I believe it's open 24 hours for adults, but only until 10 for kids. The service was incredible every step of the way. So glad we stayed here! read more

I was very pleased with the service and cleanliness of this hotel. The continental breakfast was as expected with good hot food and plenty to eat. I have made a personal commitment that I would no longer stay in a run down hotel ever again. I was very pleased that they have kept this place current with all the latest accommodation. Nice newer beds and pillows. Hot tub and indoor pool. We were very pleased with our stay. We had to spend a little more than some of the others around in the area but well worth it.
