This is the absolutely most charming place to stay while visiting national treasures of Oregon. It is a classic 1960s roadside motel with carvings of woodland creatures gracing the parking lot under the watchful eye of the lumberjack chopping wood. The management greeted us cheerfully and had great suggestions for places to eat. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The decor of the room is the great outdoors with carved, heavy pine furniture and antlers galore. The Woodsman Country Lodge is a delightful place to stay. read more

This is not a destination motel. This is where you stop when you have no other options. The guy manning the check in area probably shouldn't work a job in customer service. Very sour personality. All of the rooms have hunting themes and are outdated and feel dirty. I felt like I had things crawling on me all night. Right by the road so it's nice and noisy. Room 9 is the quietest. The room decor was wonderful. Almost all of the furniture was made from logs and gave the room a great rustic feel. I saw photos on Yelp and that's why wanted to stay here. So much better than a cookie cutter standard motel room. I loved it! They provided a fridge. And the microwave and coffee maker were red, a nice touch. Plenty of counter space in the bathroom. Big closet with lots of hangers and two luggage racks. The toilet, unfortunately, had yellow urine stains in the bowl. Not acceptable. It couldn't have been cleaned very well or often. One treatment with Zep toilet bowl cleaner would've fixed that pretty easily. That stuff works magic on yellow toilet stains. When I put the key in the dropbox I left a note about that problem. Hopefully they will fix it. We were in room number 2. But overall the experience was really good. read more

My husband and I were travelling and originally planning on camping at Crater Lake. When we looked at the weather the morning of, we saw the overnight temps dipped into the low 30's! Brrr! So we decided to look for a room. Nothing was available at the lake so we broadened our search and came across this little gem. There were only 2 rooms left (we booked through Booking.com), a 1 twin bed or a double queen...we opted for the double queen. When we arrived there were Halloween decorations out (very festive!) and when we rang the bell in the office Brian was very quick to answer. He was very nice and helpful and asked if we needed 2 beds as he had another customer that would prefer 2 (he must have booked the last room for the night). We told him we only needed 1 bed but we didn't want a twin...he immediately asked if we used Booking.com because they incorrectly list twin beds as they only have queen beds on site. So it worked out perfectly since we saved some money and the other person got the 2 beds they wanted! :-) He also mentioned the temperature that morning when he got up was 18°! So happy we found a room! The room was very nice...decorated like a cabin with wooden furniture, wildlife photos, wooden carvings, and even a working gas fireplace! Everything was nice and clean, the bed was really comfy, and there was a loveseat and a little dining area as well. Overall a spacious yet cozy room to spend the night in! Our experience overall was excellent and we will definitely be staying here again and would recommend it to any of our friends or family! :-) read more

My wife and I took a planned road trip with no plans, despite logic and experience telling us to do otherwise. As the sun set, our choices teetered between seedy roadside motels and expensive resort hotels in Bend. We found this on Yelp and it looked promising. We were not disappointed. We called and the owner was willing to hold a room for us. It's easy to look at the Woodsman and think of the potential for a horror movie set, but that thought quickly disappears. The parking lot is open, clean and inviting. The exterior is clean and well-kept with a Cabela's-esque feel to it. Don't be dissuaded by pre-2016 posts complaining of poor business practices. The new owner is wonderful and welcoming. The rooms are clean (if eclectic). The prices are fair. If you're looking for a five-star, amenity-saturated resort, this isn't it. If you're looking for an inviting, comfortable place to spend the night on your road trip, stay here. There are some reviews that complain about poor service. The owner does most of the work, so you won't find him waiting by the desk, but he will answer the phone. read more

Ten Star Rating! We stayed in room 6 and were so impressed by the cozy, "man-room" atmosphere. The most comfortable bed...EVER! The room was impeccably clean and the extra touches of several outlets for charging devices, in-room coffee, frig/freezer made our 2-day stay easy. Brian and his wife are a very friendly and hardworking couple, putting their guests comfort and needs at priority. Located between the unique Mohawk Restaurant and Bigfoot Tavern (plus a Dollar General) you have everything you need! We spent a couple days here with our 4 dogs, dog friendly place. Bed was comfortable and room was cozy and Clean! Becca was awesome at check in. Reasonable rate. Diners and bars within walking distance, great friendly place. We used it as crash pad as we explored Crater Lake, Diamond Lake, and Crack in the Ground and visited friends in the area. I recommend it and you won't be disappointed. Has a 12 cup coffee maker in the room! read more

what a fun , clean, comfortable , old school motel. this is a mom and pop type motell with a mountain style motif. The beds where better that any large chain hotel I have been to. So if you like small cozy mom and pop motels this is one of the best. read more

This is my kind of motel. Super clean, friendly, and quirky as hell. I came here on a trip south to Crater Lake. The rooms cozy and a hilariously decorated in a hunting theme with impeccable attention to detail. All of the furniture is custom made (log style). Although the accommodations of this motel are nice, the policies of the owners are driving people away. On my recent stay, there was a sign posted "No Bikers" and the owners were not very friendly. Talking to the townspeople we found that they have turned people away for various reasons, none of which were identified when making a reservation. Advice, don't take a change of being turned away when you get there. There are cheaper and friendlier places to stay. read more

I REALLY LOVED my stay here. I will have to post pictures soon. This place has amazing themed rooms with nature themes. The owners would like to retire soon though, so this place could shutter. They are selling it for a bargain price, and would be a great investment for a person or family who loves the outdoors and would like to run an amazing little motel that is quite a wonderful diamond in the rough. I sure hope it does not close, since it is amazing what they did with all of the rooms. I was Not a fan of the hunting man's toilet with bullets decorating the rim, but all else was charming in our deer themed room. Everything had a bear, deer, or moose theme to it. The room had lanterns for lights, cozy flannel and fleece sheets, and everything was adorned with matching touches of an outdoor adventure. I felt like I was truly at a cabin with all the unique touches. The price seemed a tad high at first, but breakfast was included which were snacks to-grab and go- nice to eat a few there and take a couple for the road (fruit, power bars, granola treats, Kellog's snacks, and little Debbie pastries), the room was quiet, and they provide a lot of extra things that other places don't - books and magazines, tourism nook, large coffee cups in the room, special ametities, two ice machines, coat rack, newspapers, etc. I felt very lucky to stay here and glad we stopped for some R and R. Quite the place to remember and unwind in. Free wifi and cable too. read more

This place is horrible. The owner is an awful person. We checked in and were unloading our bags at 9:45pm and our car alarm accidentally went off.. The key was in our room so I ran to get it, I'm talking 25 seconds at the most, anyway the owner came out and was literally screaming at me. I said I was sorry and it was an accident and he said accidents don't happen there and stupid doesn't either. It didn't stop there, he kept screaming at my husband and I. It was freaky. My husband walked back into the office and got our money back from the semi-embarrassed wife. And this was all happening in front of other guests and their young children. I would NEVER stay there. I don't even give it a star for the quaintness and funky backwoods theme. read more

I have to admit, I didn't have high hopes for this place. The website (at the time) wasn't working, though it is now, and we had no idea what to expect. If I'd checked the reviews here on Yelp, I probably would have looked elsewhere, had there been anywhere else available near Crater Lake on Labor Day weekend (i know, I know, it was a last minute trip!). But if I'd done that, we would have missed a really nice experience. To start, I should note that despite what the reviews say below, there is no sign that says "no bikers" and there were a couple of folks on motorcycles staying there the night we stayed. The decor, as noted by others, is the most adorably rustic, lodge-and-log-style decoration. The rooms are comfortable, well-appointed, and certainly up to the quality of the cost. I'd been put off by what seemed like a steep nightly rate, but it was worth it. The owners are in the midst of trying to sell, and apparently aren't having much luck. It would be a shame for such a hidden gem to be lost. read more

The new owner was absolutely great and understanding of my predicament, stuck with no transportation and waiting for rescue. Very clean and comfortable rooms with a unique flavor. Crescent, Oregon is a rural area that is bisected by a state highway. The Woodsman Country Lodge was much more than a run of the mill highway stop over. It was a gem to stay one night with our dogs, before our trip along the Cascades Scenic Highway ending in Bend, Oregon. The property was secured with cameras and lighting - excellent if you're on a motorcycle. The room was exceptionally clean and the decor was charming in the lodge style, with a very comfortable bed, leather couch, and a small dining table. Given the pandemic, we ordered dinner to go and took it back to the motel, just like we were eating out! The dogs were comfortable with plenty of room while we watched a movie from the couch. This is the BEST deal if your travelling through Central Oregon, on SR 97, especially with dogs. We will stay here again, the owner was terrific and accommodated all of our requests. You won't be disappointed! read more

This hotel has no formal confirmation system. My experience was: called and made the mistake of giving my credit card # and saying I would talk to wife and confirm. Wife nixed idea and didn't I call back.(my mistake) But no mail, email, phone call or confirmation # . When charge showed up I was told that I was given the persons name "Barb" and that serves as their confirmation and was then told that was their policy regarding reservations. I am not sure how would I would have known their policy with no form of confirmation stating that. read more

OFFENDED Though I've stayed at the Woodsman Motel several times since 1991, even before the present owners, I'm sure this was my last! The rooms are very clean and the wildlife motif make for a pleasant comfortable room in a country setting except for all the signs placed everywhere saying don't do this & don't do that and how much it will cost if you do. The owners clearly have been misplaced and know nothing about the field of hospitality. First I tried to guarantee late arrival with my credit card, but was firmly told that if I weren't there by 10pm that I would not get keys to the room. So okay' at some inconvenience......we arrived before 10pm. The next day is an all school alumni reunion, an event which most motel owners would welcome. Not these people. They acted as though they weren't even aware a reunion was taking place in spite of the numerous billboard signs throughout this small community welcoming Grizzly Alumni. Two of the billboard signs were at the two properties on either side of the motel and a third sign was displayed directly at across the highway at another motel, so really, how could they not know. Following an afternoon at the community center, we decided to return to our room and relax a little before going to dinner next door. We had friends come by our room to say hello and look at some older family photos we brought with us. It is 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Our friends were four retired adults and two teenage grand-daughters. One of the four adults was a paid guest with her husband in another room just down from ours. The two girls were glued to their i pads, not saying a word, let alone misbehaving. Within just minutes after their arrival the phone in our room rings. It is the owner (the wife), and she proceeds to tell us that this is not a hangout, nor do they appreciate them coming to the motel and they will have to leave immediately. I tried to explain that there was a reunion taking place and that there was no drinking, not that having a drink would be a bad thing. It didn't matter, their minds were made up and our friends would have to leave. We were so shocked and offended to be treated this way without cause. Moments later we noted several other people gather with a glass of wine on the deck. I don't know their experience, or what else was said, but the owner, (the wife) called back to our room with a weak attempt at an apology for offending us and said our friends could stay until 10pm BEWARE of any reviews describing the owner as such a sweet lady, as I'm sure she wrote that one herself. This left an ugly mark on an otherwise perfect weekend. These people need to retire or find someone else to run their front desk. This is a terrific motel. The owners have taken great care to decorate it in a very rustic and charming bear/hunter/winter lodge theme and we kept noticing special details in the room every time we looked up, i.e., antlers on the lamps, old school dial phone, log furniture, etc. Yet it was up to date and very well done. It was super clean, charming and quiet (and our room was next to the ice machine). We have family who just moved to the area so when we visit again, we will certainly make our reservations here again. read more
