We were passing through Hannibal and stayed here for one night. It was a nice location and if you are interested in seeing Mark Twain's boyhood home, you are only two blocks away. The hotel is showing signs of age but some rooms were under construction so it looks like they are updating some areas. The rooms open to a balcony and pool inside the building. It was quiet during our stay so no extra noise from the pool area. Our room was clean and the staff was super nice. It was a nice stay. We saw the Mississippi River when we woke up as well. read more

Everything about this hotel is terrible. Starting with the atrocious staff. I travel weekly for business and frequently have to change my check out dates on the fly. So, my original itinerary was check in Monday, check out Friday. As it goes sometimes in my field, I had to leave Tuesday night to go to another Job. So, i talked with the lady and a gentleman at the desk Tuesday night around 5pm and explained my situation and kindly asked to have my check out date switched to the following day, Wednesday morning, since it was too late in the day to check out for Tuesday. They obliged and changed it in their booking system. Now this weekend, I'm trying to enter my travel expenses as many of us business travelers do. So, I call the best western and ask them for a copy of my receipt. After speaking with the gentleman Saturday, who was very kind and tried to be helpful. He explained I was actually checked out Thursday, not Wednesday. After a brief conversation and explained when and who i talked to about changing my check out date, he said he would have to speak to a manager later in the day. In any case, I asked him to send me the receipt he had on file so I could log it into my expenses. He took my email, but I never received it. Sunday, I called again and spoke with an absolutely atrociously mannered woman. I simply asked her to send me my receipt via email. She asked me my check out date, I explained to her It was originally Friday, however after the conversation with the gentleman yesterday I'm unsure if her system has it down for Thursday or was corrected to Wednesday. Her response was "Well how am I supposed to help you, if you don't know your check out date". Like she didn't hear a word I just said to her. So, I again explained the situation that I had with the gentleman the prior day. Her response was "Yeah that guy is just a desk clerk, he has no idea what he's doing, you speak to management only with those matters". Like how the hell am I supposed to know if he is or isn't a manager? I would expect him to relay the message and get back to me. At this point I don't even know why this woman is bickering with me. I just want my receipt. But I'm assuming she was the high and mighty manager, because she went out of her way to explain to me why I was also charged for Wednesday night. She said, and I'm not making this up, is because my do not disturb sign was on the door. So, I asked if that was best western policy to charge for additional nights when the sign was left on the door, because in that case why wasn't I also charged Thursday, or even all weekend? This question must have hurt her brain, because she hung up the phone and has refused to answer the phone and send my receipt over to me. I have traveled for business weekly for the last decade, and this is the single most ridiculous thing anyone has ever said to me. And the way this disgusting woman handled the situation and spoke down about her colleagues is terrible. The company I work for frequently has business in Hannibal and let me tell you, there's much nicer properties to stay at with far kinder and welcoming staff. This was the first time I stayed at this property, based off a recommendation from our travel agent, so i gave it a shot, and it'll be the last. Other negatives? The parking is terrible. Side lots are tight, and I personally saw people banging their doors on other cars. The back lot is a one-way road, and twice between Monday and Tuesday, the had people servicing the air unit, which blocks the road, meaning you have to back down a 1-way street to exit. The rooms are not clean, definitely not 170$ a night clean. Also, the indoor pool reeks, your eyes will burn if you stay here all week, thank God i only had to endure it till Tuesday. Everything smells of chlorine. Also, the shower doesn't drain worth a damn. The price, 170$ a night? Seems pretty high given the standards these guys are holding themselves too. Ahem, not high. Booked through a third party they do business with, hotel was pet friendly on the app, then when we got there on the 4th of July after checking us in, a man came out in the parking lot and starting yelling at us that they weren't pet friendly. We tried to politely explain and show him that it was pet friendly on the app. He then grabbed my credit card out of my hand (to supposedly) give us a refund. (He actually did nothing to help us get a refund). He also grabbed our room keys while he continued with his tantrum. Never came back out with my card - I had to go in and get it. First time coming here wanted to stay overnight somewhere that I haven't been too before on the way to Kansas City. This place is in the heart of everything if you're here for tourism purposes. Staff was friendly. Really big lounge area and the pool that's there is really cool how it's in the middle of everything. Rooms were good, really big and enjoyed that I was close to everything near my room. Like going to breakfast. Breakfast wasn't the best either. They have great specialty motorcycle parking. A perfect location for everything downtown, but a little rundown. We are fans of Best Western properties, but this one was a bit rough. The rooms, were cleanish, but the rooms could use a good, hard once-over deep cleaning to revive them. There is a floor-standing air conditioning unit, which is very loud and right by the head of one bed, so getting a good night's sleep was challenging because I kept waking up. They really need to change to central air or, perhaps, a window unit. We stayed over the weekend for the Mark Twain Festival and this hotel is in the perfect place for you to walk down and partake in all the fun activities and hit all the downtown restaurants. Inside the hotel, there is a huge atrium, with a nice size pool and hot tub. A big plus for kids and great that it's indoors for year-round fun. If they made some renovations--especially with the AC unit, then I would come back to this property. read more

Well... there are those who love this hotel, so let's start with the GOOD. You are located as close as you could possibly be to the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum, which is a fantastic attraction. You are about three blocks from the river front which I believe is the closest hotel to the riverfront. My room was on the third floor facing the river, and we could see the river... although, I don't think this is the most scenic view in the world! Still... for those who doubt the proximity of the hotel to the river, rest assured, you are close. If you have not been to Hannibal, everything a tourist wants to see, do, buy, or eat is close by! The darling downtown with several restaurants is literally a block away and is about four blocks long in totality. Other good news about this hotel is that breakfast is included, there is a snack shop in the lobby, and the desk clerk is a very kind & cheerful lady! For many, many children and families, the inside pool was a great attraction. When my children were kids I would have loved having a hotel lobby pool for them to play in. Our room was clean and there were plenty of linens. So WHY, might you ask, did I give this hotel 3 stars? Well, sometimes your perspective changes as you get older, and so do your needs. So, from the perspective of a more "mature" couple, traveling without children, that pool in the lobby is a huge echo chamber of shrieks and splashes- so loud that, although we are both a little hard of hearing, we were disturbed by the commotion while staying on the third floor. Thankfully, eventually the kids go to bed, but not before we did! Also, the pool chemicals have a very strong smell which you can smell from everywhere in the building. And... there is the extra humidity that you can also feel everywhere, including in the hotel room. Maybe this doesn't bother you. I probably wouldn't have noticed it 20 years ago, but if you happen to have any respiratory problems (I do) I can't recommend staying here. It looked like there was another building across the side street that was part of the hotel- maybe ask about that side if the pool issues worry you. To continue, although the linens were clean and plentiful, they were also seriously worn- not rags exactly, but thin and worn out enough that in my house we keep towels like that in the garage to use with muddy pets. Not what I prefer from a hotel that cost @$190 per night. Also, the mattress was seriously squashed and should be replaced. The interior of the window was clean, but that view discussed from above was seriously obstructed by all of the dirt on the exterior. See the attached photo. So, basically, the BAD is that the hotel has some worn and dirty areas that need attention, and depending on your preferences, may have some nuisances (noise, chlorine smell, and humidity) that outweigh the positives. read more

Could not have been happier with our stay here. It is within about a block of the historic Mark Twain boyhood home and museum. Very close to the Main Street. Our room was excellent. Very spacious, clean, and quiet. The breakfast the hotel offers is top notch and very tasty. The best for last was the staff. Extremely pleasant and helpful. First of all it's not on the river. It should be called the Best Western 4 blocks from the river with a mediocre partial view of the water. The woman at the front desk was very nice. But the entire building is dark, dingy, and outdated. And the parking sucks. I'm not a snob. I could happily stay in a room like this. But I'd want to pay substantially under $100. We paid $130 after taxes and made a special trip off the freeway because it sounded nice. They say you get what you pay for but we didn't. read more

It's close to the river but not on the river. The air conditioning did not work well, we had 2 rooms, neither room would cool down at all. We all sweated all night. A terrible noise from the bathroom ceiling that sounded like tin cans being dragged down a road. Unable to rest. Watched many people have difficulties in the narrow parking lot. read more

AVOID AVOID AVOID! I am a Marine veteran with a service dog. When I checked in I treated like #$@! I was asked for documentation for my service dog. This is discrimination and illegal. When I tried to tell her this, it only enraged her more and said she will throw me out. She said the paper displayed on counter was proof they are allowed to ask for documentation. I was then asked to leave the counter so she can check in other guests. I read the paper, NOWHERE does it say this. However, I showed her my dogs service badge. They took it and made a copy of it. She went on to say they will throw me out again. When I asked for her name she lied to me. Then I asked for the manager and she said she was the manager, and that was a lie. Later when the shift changed I went down to see if the real manger was there. The new girl at the counter said "I been warned about you!" When I tried to get her name she lied to me. Then she proceeded to tell me what I can and can not do with my service dog and she threaten to throw me out as well. I no longer felt safe at this place and at 2 am I called the police and waited in parking lot. Officer Myers came out and got their real names! I told him I will check into another hotel. Went to the Holiday INN, no questions were asked, treated respectfully, and went to my room. Ever since then, I always stay at the Holiday Inn. Stay away from this place and spend a little extra to be treated better at the Holiday! No one with a disability should be treated like this. read more

" Was A Niece Place " We met some friends in the Best Western Hotel. The hotel looked very nice and and newer. The Hotel does have a weird layout though. There is an indoor pool and Jacuzzi that all of the rooms look down on! It is weird and leads to an excessive amount of noise that comes up to the rooms.We asked and the employees told us that a remodel had just happened. For starters, it's not even near the water it's blocks away from it. *bad experience* Stayed here, upon getting into our room in the evening it smelled of sewer gas, we asked for a new room and said that they had none (turned out to be false), instead they gave us a fan and an air freshener to "help." We hung out about an hour and before exploring the downtown area, while checking out the room we noticed our shower was leaking from the floor above as I looked up and it got into my mouth. We nicely asked the front desk if the maintenance could check it out while we were gone, the lady said that she would "call the maintenance man." We came back and around midnight, we heard leaking and went to investigate and the shower tile had gave way and exposed the horrible maintenance job that they tried to perform, using a cheap foil pan and OUR room towels to help catch the water, obviously the weight of wet towels and water gave way after a few hours, imagine if we were showering and it hit us. We decided to wait till morning upon checkout and when we let the front desk know, they attempted to refund us only 30 dollars for the inconvenience. We asked for more and only received another 30 dollars off. We then called back later and had to fight for yet ANOTHER 30 dollars off. Leaving us to pay around 30 for the room because the lady said "we have to pay for something." The maintenance here is completely incompetent and the management and staff needs to work on their hospitality, the guest always comes first. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Will not recommend to anyone. This is a nice family hotel. We chose this hotel because it had two pools- one inside and one out and because we are BW rewards members. The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly. My only disappointment was the breakfast. There were many choices but issues with all that I tried. The eggs were rubbery, cold, and bland. In fact all the "hot" options were not warm enough. 90-100 degree weather, no access to drinking water unless you want to get water from the bathroom, the same place everyones takes a poop. Kinda gross to me. Wouldn't mind so much if sink wasn't in bathroom like some hotels. No vending machines. They told me it was because customers were demolishing the machines, yet when I stayed here 2 yrs ago they said they removed them to get touch-less due to Covid and would be replacing them soon. With having 3 children this is a very poor idea and absurd to think I have to drive just for drinking water in my hotel or pay triple at the front desk. This hotel was pretty darn good. Its best quality, in my opinion, was its fabulous air conditioning. So few rooms will let you crank it down at night and keep it there. Of all the hotels we stayed in on this long weekend, this had the best AC. Plus, the Wi-fi was completely free without having to join their frequent guest program; just part of the room. I really loved this because my Verizon phone could not connect to any digital service in Hannibal. It is non smoking, clean and has a great pool and hot tub. read more

I stayed here for an overnight trip to Hannibal for a graduate class. This was such a nice hotel. The front desk staff was friendly and fast at getting us checked in. The hotel itself is kind of interesting. When you walk into the lobby, the indoor pool and hot tub are just right there. If you have an issue with the smell of chlorine, it is really prominent in the lobby and to an extent even in the rooms. It looks like they have recently been remodeling and updating some of the rooms. They have painted all of the walls a weirdly orange/beige color that I think needs to be broken up with some pictures or something. The room was a nice and spacious double queen. They clean and bag their remote, which was a nice touch and will make even the biggest of particular germ-a-phobes smile. I slept wonderfully as the hotel was very quiet. They had a really nice continental breakfast with a hot items bar including biscuits, gravy, eggs, and sausage and bacon. I would come back and stay at this hotel if I ever return to Hannibal. read more

This hotel was built in 1989 and it shows. The location is excellent, BUT the hotel room was damp and dark. My husband's allergies flared up. The paper on the walls was peeling and the metal drop ceiling in the bathroom was rusted. Our room only had a window that overlooked the inside of the hotel and someone banged on it during the night. Will never stay here again. I wanted it to work since the location is so great. They need to tear it down and build new. read more

Last minute trip, we chose to stay here due to close proximity to the main downtown area. Well we got there and The staff here were really busy but very proffesional in handling the constant onslaught of phone calls and checking people in. The facility was very clean, the room was also nice. Continental breakfast was as good (if not better) as some restaurant I've ate at. read more

At first I was impressed with the free cookies and the renovation but after the first ten minutes everything went down hill. The girl at the front desk was completely incompetent. Our luggage rack was broken so I asked if she had another so my elderly mother wouldn't have to bend down to the floor to get items from her suitcase. The response was, "Uhhh... I think we may have some in the basement. Maybe." She did not seem the least bit eager to find a replacement. Needless to say, we never got one. Next, our iron was broken. It leaked water all over my dry-clean only dress which I brought to wear to a funeral the next day. Now it's permanently ruined. I tried multiple times to log onto the wireless internet and it was completely unreliable. If you stay there, which you shouldn't, don't expect to be connected to the internet for more than five seconds at a time. Utterly worthless. Also, our room was never cleaned. We left at 9:30 on a Friday and came back around 4pm to find our room untouched. I went to the front desk and asked her to please send someone to bring fresh towels and make up the bed. She asked if I had the "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door. Of course not, I wanted my room cleaned. She then told me that everyone left for the day and she was the only person working and she couldn't leave the front desk. It was barely 4:00p!!! Give me a break! I will not be staying at a Best Western again. And if you have any other option, neither should you. read more

Stayed with my wife and another couple for one night (thank god only one) for our Hannibal geotrip. We checked in around 7 and the guy working the front desk was about 18 and super friendly. We went to our room, which was super small, and unpacked. The problems started when we returned and got ready for bed. From 11-1 am there was country music BLARING. I don't know where it was coming from but it was loud and annoying. It finally went off. Now we had the last room before the stairs on the third floor. So we shouldn't of heard much noise from other rooms right? Wrong. Every hour or so it sounded like a gunshot went off in our room. I couldn't pin point what was making the extremely loud banging noise but it was over and over and it woke us all up. The shower head doesn't move so it's stuck blasting water way to high, over the head of my wife and wife of the other couple. The beds and pillows are also complete crap. I woke up more sore and untested than if I would've just slept in my car. We will not stay in this hotel again. Probably choose a holiday inn. If you do stay here, being your own pillow and DON'T STAY IN ROOM 316! It's a loud and annoying stay. read more

Not a bad hotel. I travel a fair amount for work and I have stayed in worse hotels for more money, that is for sure. We were able to get the bed we wanted and to get the temperature just right for sleeping. I use my iPad when I travel but I hook into free WiFi when it is there so that was an additional plus. I also always want a smoke free room which this was. However, I am not sure I would stay the night in Hannibal; the hotel is fine but the town only merits about a two hour stay. read more

We have stay a few nights! The pool is great center of building and a big hot tub! Loved the breakfast wish their was another meat besides sausage cause I can not eat that. Biscuits where good and the gravy. A lot of options for waffles. I just added some of them to my eggs made them taste better. Room is clean and stocked. Little shop by deal for goodies and essentials if u need them. We got a few drinks from their. They have two buildings think I would much have stayed in the second one for at least I could see my car.. if your lucky to get a good parking spot in front area that's great if not park in the back which I do not like and not well lite.. read more

Last night, I called to ask if they could help after an online booking date mixup that seemed to be a glitch... the "manager" told me after i briefly explained that i just needed to change the date i had booked, that "Thats your problem, its your own fault you messed up the reservation." AND HUNG UP ON ME. She then refused to answer again until i used another number. I called again to speak to mgr and she said, "Im the manager, and i canceled your reservation" and hung up on me AGAIN. She refused to tell me her name. I simply wanted to change dates and she just canceled my room and treated me this way- didn't even let me get a word in! needless to say, I wouldn't recommend it. I'm completely stereotypical when it comes to hotels so I really wasn't expecting much here since my experience with Best Western hasn't been the best. In the end, I was pleasantly surprised! The newly renovated hotel is completely non-smoking. The rooms were wonderful with two large queen beds. The bathroom was small with a lower tub and toilet (I'm also tall so...) but the room was great. We stayed near the back parking lot and it was handy how parking was close to wherever you were staying. The breakfast was picked over but it had the traditional stuff a hotel offers but they had a mini-buffet of eggs, sausage, and potatoes. read more

Don't expect too much and you'll love this place. Positives: Room was nice and recently updated, free wifi, in a good location, good price. Bed was nice. Negatives: Mainly they are sound related... The walls are paper thin. The elevator makes a "ding" sound every time you hit a button. I could hear every "ding" and my room wasn't by the elevator. They were renovating the room above my room. So I awoke every morning to saws, drills, etc. literally vibrating my walls. The hotel is designed so the pool is in the middle and all the rooms are wrapped around it. There were also drunk people making noise most of the night. And please don't expect to get anything for your room, had to carry the pack in play up to our room by ourselves and had to come down stairs to get an extra (dirty/uncomfortable) blanket.
