If you have a choice to stay here or stay home, stay home. They need to do renovations of this hotel. I checked in on a Friday afternoon and checked out the next morning. My showers was a hybrid bath. The faucet kept running during my shower while water was also coming out of the shower head. The door to the space with the shower and toilet touches the sink and countertop. That design was interesting. The bed showed signs of age and LOOKS like it needs to be replaced. When I got into the bed, I could hear and feel each and every spring in the mattress. The seating area had a velour sofa. It was spacious; just dated. There is not enough space in the parking lot for everyone if the hotel is full. When I got back at night to sleep, I had to drive around the building three times to find a spot. When I finally did locate a spot it was in the opposite side of the building from where my room was located. The elevator is sloooooow and some of the common areas had trash in the floors. I didn't do research in this hotel prior to booking, so I take responsibility for that. I did go to breakfast the next morning and it was okay; waffles, cereal, pastries, eggs, and yogurt. They don't charge incidentals but do take your card information to keep in file during your stay. read more

As we arrived the staff was okay but upon entering the room we found a baseball size hole in the wall, no outlet covers, a dirty floor and pulled back the blankets to reveal a giant cockroach. My husband went down to the front desk and was instructed to speak to the manager in the morning but when I went down in the morning he still wasn't here when we needed to get back on the road, so I left my number. She has developed the skill set the allows her to remember guests' names and guest specific details that make each person feel special. She made us feel as though we were guests in her home. We stayed last night and the hotel has an odor. we got into the bedroom and pulled out the pull out couch and it has stains on it. we changed the sheets but the mattress was pretty thin. I've stayed at a few Best Westerns and this location treated me fairly well. Easy check in with the clerk who provided me with an extra key. Grab and go breakfast items was offered for free each morning (muffins, yogurts, juices, fruits, sausage biscuits) My room was clean, pillows and bed comfortable with two TVs, a couch, desk, chair and small refrigerator. A wall thermostat is by the bed but to keep the fan running I had to adjust the actual A/C unit. The shower water pressure was great and toilet was supercharged. Noise was not an issue and I slept through the night. The second night I returned to the hotel to find my bed made and towels restocked. I could tell this hotel employed better house keeping staff than a different hotel brand I had stayed at nights prior. I would recommend this Best Western location to anyone passing through Birmingham. It's in a better area of town (down the street from Samford University) across the street from Walmart and is in walking to a couple restaurants. I had a nearly lovely experience. Firstly, during check-in a very boorish man came stomping up to the front desk speaking as if he were a cave man, expecting one word to have the same amount of meaning as a full sentence does. Of course none of this was the fault of the very polite man behind the counter, who was very patient with this caveman and able to help him with his needs while i was standing there. There is "masks required" signage everywhere but absolutely no one had a mask on. Neither the people working there, nor any of the patrons. If this is the case, why is the pool closed? No one is distancing and no one is masking-- open the pool. You're not protecting anyone at all by keeping it closed. The pool was the entire reason we booked this hotel, only to find that it was closed. C'est la vie, and yet, disappointing. The room was perfectly lovely. Two queen beds, two televisions, a very nice bathroom. Quite clean, and fairly quiet. Very run down and outdated furniture in our "suite" on the third floor. Both the sleeper sofa and rolling desk chair were broken and uncomfortable to sit on. We did not experience any problems with cleanliness. The pool was closed, as seems to be the case in so many hotels that we visit in January. The lobby and breakfast area look bright, clean, and modern, but once you get to the room, it's another story. There is no ADA entrance to the front lobby for guests with mobility challenges. It is a curb without a railing for support. A small ramped entrance at side door D must be used. There are two marked handicapped parking spaces at that door. The elevator is at the very back of the hotel. You must walk down the entire length of first floor hallway to reach the elevator. There is a parking lot exit near that back elevator, but it has three or four steps to climb to reach the parking lot. The gentlemen running the check-in and breakfast room were very pleasant and kind, but were also difficult to understand. I now realize why the room rate was such a great deal. read more

We reserved two rooms at this hotel and it was the most disgusting hotel we've ever stayed at.. housekeeper was smoking in the room as she cleaned, bird poop on the curtains, pubic hairs in the tub and toilet seats, boogers on the wall, electrical wires exposed and hanging out of the wall, fleas everywhere including the food / drinks we tried to get from the continental breakfast which lead us to eat elsewhere.. keycards don't work which led me getting locked out of the hotel and I had to walk from the back of the hotel in fringed temps at 4 am to the front of the hotel and call my husband who was sleeping to come and wake up the front desk clerk who was sleeping on the job. We ended up checking out of the hotel early due to the poor conditions, bugs and very unfriendly staff.. it's been weeks and we are still awaiting reimbursements for our accidental fee and for the night we didn't even stay at the hotel that they charged us for.. I had to call the better business bureau and the health department on this hotel and next up I'll be getting a lawyer because they have yet to show the booking site I went through proof of processing on our refund.. this Hotel should be shut down.. read more

This is a hotel that is lipstick on a pig. It is in dire need of serious upgrade. Looks like some things have been done and others not. We checked in to a king suite. The bed was literally 8 inches thick and creaked when sitting on it from all the coils. Looked at a double bed suite and the beds are like you would expect from best western. But the single a/c can barely keep pace with a room this large, the outlet by the sink is melted and does not work, two lights are out, the lights above sink barely give off light, the sink faucet completely moves around and out of it's spot when used, the walls are all scuffed up, missing baseboards in places, the shower was converted from a tub yet has the same valve with tub outlet and the shower pan is filthy looking(may be cheap and stains), the TV by bed does not change volume, and the two TV's are on different channels when each is on the same remote channel, and the list of TV channels does not match what the TV does. My wife's card would not work in the outside reader to come back in and the desk person said he usually keeps a rock in the door so people can come back in-kimda defeats the purpose of security. Apparently they don't work. The front desk person was very helpful and caring when we switched rooms(reason for two stars). read more

My spouse and I are both retired marine vet's traveling west to get home. We were stuck in terrible weather last night resulting in the five of us including my 4 year old son to sleep in the moving trucks on the side of the road. We reached out to this hotel that same night in hopes to get a refund due to weather conditions as we would not be able to continue the drive putting our family in danger. They refused to give us a refund, and we explained we did not have money for a new hotel. My company has us staying at this location which was okay at first until we started returning week after week! Then as they started placing me in different rooms, I started noticing that every room has different problems with them. 304 smells like dog piss and the air conditioning is rattling and won't cool. 329 has black mold on the bathroom ceiling and multiple outlets won't work. We have been here for at least 6 weeks and it's getting old at this point. The staff are starting to show thier true colors in Alabama, home sweet home my as! At this point I am about to request I be placed at another hotel due to the black mold/ outlets not working/ ac being broken etc with each and every room they tend to give me. 403 outlets and light on the bed are broken or don't work. So i booked this hotel because i was going to be in the area for business for 2 days and omg . Im convinced people live here. The breakfast was pretty good and I would say the staff was really nice however the beds are hard as a rock. I didn't get good sleep tossing and turning . Beds definitely need upgrading. Two words...PUBIC.....HAIR. My wife chose this hotel for our first night away from the kid in a loooooooooooooong time because it had whirlpool tubs available. This hotel is old and starting to fall into disrepair but it is in a nice area so they charge $130+ a night for our room. The hallways stink of various cleaners and general funk. The microwave was so old it had a single dial on it...no buttons. There are numerous cracks in the walls and ceilings etc. The indoor pool actually looked nice but the water was over chlorinated even by water park standards. I've spent the night in rooms ranging from $35 to $5000+, I can get over an old crappy hotel. It is what you make of it, especially if you get to spend a night away from poopy diapers and goldfish being shoved in your face. What I can't handle is turning on our coveted whirlpool tub and a ton of pubes flying out into the water!!! I'm not talking about one or two. I'm talking about a small handful worth of jet black short n curlies. The lady at the front desk was horrified and the assistant manager wasn't especially apologetic but they were helpful. They of course didn't have another room to move us to so they dropped our rate. They ended up providing us with bleach at our request and we cleaned up all of the pubes and I assume quite a bit of genetic material ourselves. This night has only just started so I might have more to add after tomorrow's "hot breakfast". Calling corporate on Monday. The photo I included doesn't show the full magnitude of pubage btw. Update- The manager was there when we checked out this morning and comped our room. He also offered us a discount on a future stay. The hot breakfast buffet was what you'd expect with one exception. Stop! Book somewhere else! The most horrible hotel we've ever stayed at! On arrival, they had one person at the desk who said she was new... the manager would be back shortly. I asked where the pool was and they said the 2nd floor, BUT the elevator was down for maintenance and didn't know when it would be up. The only reason we booked the hotel was for the pool.Finally the elevator worked and we found the pool. Omg... look at the picture! It doesn't get any worse than this! Upon leaving this morning for the day, we informed the maid that we are gone for the day and so she was free to turn the room. Upon our return in the evening. Guess what? Room was not turned and of course all our towels were used from the night before and on the floor. I go to the front desk and there is a line of disgruntled customers at 9pm of ppl wanting to check in. No one at the desk for the past 15 minutes. Finally the guy comes in from outside, helps the people and I asked for 4 towels. He only had 2 to give me. Great! Ugh. Let me start by saying that if I know i will never return someplace I always begin with a 2-star rating and If I wasn't satisfied but would consider going back I always start at a 3-stat rating and work my way up. The two most redeeming things about this hotel were 1) the location and 2) the free breakfast buffet. The hotel was located right off the freeway which made it easy to find when we arrived in Birmingham and easy to get to local attractions/activities. It was also situated close to a Walmart, bank, some shopping and a few restaurants. The breakfast buffet was about as good as free buffets can get. (I think the very best I've had was at Embassy Suites in Little Rock, Arkansas) I say it was the best because they had a good variety of foods to choose from and they we're all hot and well prepared. Eggs, bacon, grits, biscuits, cereal, fruit, etc... Nothing out of the ordinary except that it didn't suck, which in my opinion most do. The rooms were big enough; two queens and a sofa bed in living room BUT the door separating the living room from the bedroom didn't close smoothly, the sliding glass door on the shower kept coming off the hinge, the shower floor was cracked and lopsided so water pooled on one side, the phone did't work so I had to use my cell to call guest services (for towels or to tell the that our phone didn't work!), and when we were packing up to leave we found an old sausage link on the floor-WTH? The manager said they would fix the phone but never came up so we just checked out the next day and that was that. Maybe we just had the room from hell-if none of those things had gone wrong it would have been a 3 star rated hotel at least just for being average. I'll try somewhere else next time. read more

Our toilet was making a loud and constant draining noise that couldn't be blocked out by closing the bathroom door. I informed the front desk, but there was no maintenance available for the night and they promised a discount for the room as compensation. At checkout they asked that I call back to speak to the manager the following day. I called back to hear the discount was 6$. Cleanliness was weak. The floor was sticky near the fridge and despite it being a non-smoking room, there was a strong smoke smell. The beds were comfortable and the shower pressure/heat were excellent. As the Vice President of a bank, I understand the importance of taking ownership of a situation and righting a wrong. I reserved a room that was advertised as a suite with a sitting area. Upon my arrival, I dropped off my luggage and proceeded out to a luncheon. After returning to my room, I looked to sit down. There was no sitting area.....no chairs. I went to the front desk and the blonde who was extremely nice when she swiped my card advised me that it was a misprint and not her fault. "It is what it is at this point." I explained that the only reason that I reserved the room was due to the location and amenities. A sitting area was crucial as I had work to do. At this point, I requested another room. She stated that all of the other rooms were held for those who made reservations. Really? I made reservations days before my event. She stated that the only thing that she could do is give me a 25% discount and find me a chair for the chairless desk that was in the room. I checked my credit card statement; it never happened. Two weeks later, I called....This guy again stated that there is nothing that they can do...not their fault. I suppose it is my fault for thinking that I was dealing with a reputable Hotel chain. We came here for an overnight on the way to the beach. We always stay at the residence inn anywhere we go but they were all booked up. This place is not the greatest but it worked for us. I used my Yelp check in and got a 99.00 rate coupon. Keep that in mind. It knocked 25 dollars off. The place has had some up grades. But it still is kinda run down. The breakfast was good and the kids loved the pool. Can't say we would stay again but it did the job. read more

BED BUG ALERT!!!! My Girlfriend and I stayed here for several days in December to visit with family for Christmas. Staying at this hotel ruined our holiday! My girlfriend started showing bites right after we arrived (Even on her neck and face!). At first we thought she was just having an allergic reaction to something. After several days we realized this was not an allergic reaction, these were bites! I started my search of the mattress, around the bed, and even the pull out couch bed. I was horrified at what I found. LIVE BED BUGS in all different sizes and even their body shedding clinging the the creases and sides of the bed. We were absolutely disgusted. She ended up having over 3 dozen bites across her body. I myself had over 30 bites that started showing shortly after hers. I took tons of pictures and videos of the situation and our injuries. I even collected a couple of the bed bugs in a bag to show management. I took all this evidence to management and he acted like it was no big deal. Do not stay at this disgusting hotel!!! read more

I checked in on May 20th, 2013 and lived for two days. Cannot believe that the room I got is more like a "home" rather than a hotel. It includes a queen size room, sofa, mini microwave, mini refrigerator, and so on. In short, The Best Western is very clean and awesome with many nice staffs! I love there. However we decided to take the chance because of the rate and are glad we did. The hotel was very clean, quiet with a friendly staff. The room we had was on the 4th floor and appeared to have been recently updated. There was a division between the bed and bath and the couch and work center with a refrigerator, microwave and additional small sink. The tv was centered between the 2 areas. I have NEVER been treated so poorly as I was by staff at this hotel! I have traveled all over US and Internationally and was shocked at my treatment here due to my service dog. I had been traveling alone and decided to look for a safe place with good Yelp reviews and decided on this hotel out of the several OTHER places I could have stayed. Everything was fine, the late night check in (with acknowledgement of my ESA Service Dog), the room was fine, until the next morning. I was walking unusually well that morning (usually I need a electric scooter) so I walked to the breakfast area carrying my dog. And was treated like I had walked into the room naked!!! The, I can only assume because he never identified himself, manager quickly approached me about my dog (which I had his ESA Patch visibly attached to his collar) asked me to leave, loudly. I started to point out my dogs ID and was not even aloud to speak before I was continually berated. Told he dose not agree with "the whole Service Animal thing, and there HAS to be a line"! I could NOT believe Anyone would speak to another person like he was speaking to me, not to mention a customer, with no respect AT ALL. And on top of all of this he was including the full room of the other hotel patrons in he loud disdain for my action. (Mind you I was carting my quiet Italian Greyhound in my arms, awkwardly walking, trying to get my breakfast so I could continue my solo trip) I was so shock I didn't know how to respond to all that was happening so I just slowly walked back to my room to get my things and LEAVE as quickly as possible!!!! Before I could even make it out of the room completely, this hotel staff member was engaging in a conversation with the whole room about his opinion about me and my ESA dog.
