Staff were professional and courteous. We found bed bugs in our first room, 206 before going to sleep the first night of our stay. We were moved to Room 207 in which we also found bed bugs. We caught one bed bug and gave it to the front desk. We also emailed multiple photos of bed bugs found in the rooms to the hotel. There was no point in attempting to move to a third room, so we made the most of the situation while we were there and did our best to protect ourselves from the hotel's infestation. Our home and vehicle are now infested with bed bugs contracted from the hotel. We were at the hotel for four nights in total. We requested the hotel reimburse us for the infestation by refunding the cost of our four night's stay. Staff made it very clear multiple times during two separate phone calls that the owner would only compensate a single night's stay and that the owner refused to budge on this. We observed other guests coming into and going out of Room 206 the day after we moved out, so we do not believe that the hotel took any measures to keep those guests safe either. We have already spent more than $1,500 trying to fix this situation caused by the hotel's negligence. Because the owner made it clear they would not attempt to make us whole, we will be reporting this incident to the corporate offices and posting to every public review platform we have access to. We will do everything in our power to prevent others from making the same mistake we did by staying at the Best Western Plus Kalamazoo Suites. Had the owner attempted to do right by us, we would have reflected it in our reviews. They did not. If the owner chooses to alter their decision and attempt to make us whole, then our reviews will be updated to reflect that change. read more

The bed is nice, and it is convenient to WMU white I was at a conference, but overall - It just feels dirty. The carpets are stained and probably havent been cleaned since installation. Outdated and worn furniture, HBO signal wasn't working and they forgot to vacuum my room when changing sheets and towels. Walls are patched poorly and I found a half inch of dust behind my bedside table. The best thing was the price. i'd rather pay a little more. for a room that is renovated and deep cleaned. read more

I love this hotel!! I never want to leave. I recently moved to this area and I'm awaiting to take possession of my new home. So, I researched all the hotels in Kalamazoo and wanted to stay in one that had a hot tub, a pool that was heated, served breakfast everyday. Boy, I feel like I hit the jackpot here. They even have a laundry facility. Sweet!! I checked in on a Monday and checking was very easy. I had made a 3-day reservation and then once I got here I extended it four more days. It's wheelchair accessible and there's an elevator. They gave me a beautiful room on the third floor. My room's a little far from the elevator but I can use the exercise and the stairs seem to be very easy to get up and down. They're not too tall and steep. And the landings are long enough so you can catch your breath. My room was nice and clean and spacious. My little refrigerator is missing a leg so it's kind of wobbly every time I open it. But that's okay. It still works and it was clean. All the bedding, including the top blanket, was clean and it smelled clean and it felt clean. I pulled the sheets back and the mattresses were clean very clean too. Monday, my first day, I got right in the hot tub and the pool 20 minutes after I arrived. I had the whole pool area to myself. It was clean and it had towels for my use. The pool was indeed heated and it was so nice and comfortable. There was a sheet of paper in the room that said you could order room service. Come to find out it was from a local Chinese restaurant. The food was really good. I wasn't able to pull up the QR code on my phone so they went over the menu with me on the phone. Unfortunately, they forgot my soup but the food was really good. And to me it was worth the money. Tuesday, I woke up really rested because I slept great. I didn't hear any noise in the hallways or above me. I went down and had a wonderful breakfast of biscuits and gravy and scrambled eggs and sausage. Then I went swimming and got in the hot tub again. I went to work and came back and was so happy to be pulling into this driveway I almost cried. I walked into my room and it was so nice and clean. Today is Wednesday and I'm sitting in the hot tub, drinking a cup of decaf coffee from the breakfast area. Today they're serving what I posted in the pictures. Fried and scrambled eggs. Sausage patties and potatoes. I highly recommend this place because the employees are so kind and thoughtful. I walked into the breakfast area this morning to get a cup of decaf to drink while I sat in the hot tub, and Jenny, the employee who made the beautiful breakfast this morning, came into the pool area and asked me if everything was okay. She saw that I looked at the food and just came in here. I told her the food looked wonderful and I was going to eat after my morning swim. Wasn't that so sweet? Coming to check on me? That was so sweet and so are all the other employees. They are very kind and conscientious of their guests. And the GM was really super cool too. I highly recommend this place. read more

Run screaming in the other direction. I am deadly serious. I want to give this hotel zero stars but unfortunately cannot. This was hands down the worst hotel experience I have ever had in my life. My BF and I were driving back to Toronto this evening and needed a place to stay as we were too exhausted to continue driving home. We stumbled upon this hotel and decided to check in. Our first warning signal should have been that the gentleman working answered the door in his socks, no shoes on. Secondly the sole elevator in the building was not in service, having broken down this weekend. Nevertheless we were so tired that we handed over our credit card to secure the room. The clerk even stated he would upgrade us to the jacuzzi suite - great! From the first minute we entered the room, there was an unpleasant musty smell. Whatever, I tried to ignore it. The room was very dated and not overly clean as well from initial inspection, I also chose to overlook this. Looking on the bright side, I decided to draw a bath in the jacuzzi tub and add some shampoo for bubble ambiance. I turned on the jets and was disgusted to see that the water had turned brown while the water had been circulating in the jacuzzi. We were totally grossed out but decided to chalk it up to the fact that perhaps it hadn't been used in a while? The final straw however was when I broke out into a itchy rash having laid in the bed for approximately 5 minutes. My forearms are covered in what appears to be tiny bites. We pulled back the covers to reveal stains and hairs on the "clean" bedsheets. When we let the front desk know we wanted a refund and would be leaving immediately, a room two doors down was offered (with minimal apologies). This one was just as bad when we reluctantly checked it out and at this point we just wanted to escape this hellhole. We were told that he could not issue a refund, we would have to speak to his manager later today (it's currently 4:41am now and I am still awake writing this review). We ended up at the Microtel approx 2 miles away and I feel much better after taking a very hot shower and washing my clothing in their complimentary laundry facility. First of all I want to say my wife is a Best Western employee and every other BE we have stayed at have generally been very nice ,that being said we were very disappointed in the service and general vibe of the Kalamazoo location. First of all we had to give a $150 CASH deposit upon check in. They "conveniently" have a ATM in the lobby if you don't have cash. Even though we reserved and paid with a credit card. Upon checkout they never mentioned the cash deposit after checking out. When we checked out I have to ask for my money! We had to wait in the lobby for 15 min while someone inspected the room before we got our money back. They treat you like your checking into a Shady " no tell motel " Lastly , a week later they charged my credit card for another nights stay and had to wait a week for reimbursement and NEVER was given a reason why they tried to rip me off. I stayed for four nights and the day I left I cleaned and took all of my things but I left my gemstones which were special to me. I remembered and I called back about them but they claimed to not have found/seen them. I know the housekeeping or front desk took my things and didn't want to give them back. BUYER BEWARE!!! Choose Best Western at your own risk. We have been fighting fraudulent charges for over a month now. The hotel we stayed at charged us an extra $250 after we checked out for "smoking in the room" and "checking out after 12:30". 1. We DON'T smoke and never have. I am highly allergic to cigarette smoke and my children have asthma and cannot be exposed. 2. I have credit card receipts placing me outside the hotel when they said I was checking out. The hotel refuses to refund the money and corporate refuses to overrule the hotel. "It's up to the hotel to provide any refund they deem necessary" and they "must remain impartial". That's like saying it's up to a mugger to return your wallet if they decide they don't want it!! I cannot believe any corporation thinks this is an acceptable way to do business. It makes me wonder if these managers are encouraged to randomly apply fraudulent charges. Maybe it's part of their bonus structure? read more

First the one and only positive: the room was really spacious. No complaints about that. Pretty much everything else was a disappointment. The place was overall just poorly maintained. Most of the electrical outlets in the room didn't work. The few that did were super loose. Had to prop things up & balance everything just right or the plug would just fall right back out of the outlet. Sink faucet leaked and wobbled so badly it was difficult to control the temperature of the water. The elevator screeched like a dying animal. Hot tub was closed. Staff (except for one manager) didn't seem to care. Front desk never answered the phone. There was supposed to be hot breakfast each day but apparently the staff just didn't show up so the manager was running around trying to do everything himself. And the cherry on top of the weekend - an extra $250 charge magically showing up on my credit card after we checked out. And (of course) no one at the hotel bothers answering the phone when we call to get it removed. Run away from this place...far...far away!! read more

I stayed here on 7/13-7/15 for my cousins wedding. I will NEVER stay at another best western hotel again. 1) I booked my room through booking.com. It was advertised as book now, pay at the hotel. I booked my room, & clicked that I will be paying cash upon arrival. When my family & I get to the hotel we are told that our reservation was canceled due to the card on file. How when it clearly stated no money is paid until I get to the hotel & the funds were in my account. Saad at the front desk was EXTREMELY rude. First he said my reservation was cancel then he was able to find it. When he told me my total due he tried to round it up. When I told him the amount that booming.com had for me to pay he replied " do the extra change really matter? I hope you have exact change!" I'm going to pay exactly what it says on booking.com. The next day while talking to another guest at the hotel she was telling us how she experienced the same thing with her reservation being "canceled". One of the employees told us how the manager was canceling people reservations to accommodate families there for a baseball tournament. I contacted customer service 3 times and a so nothing have been done. I guess from a 3 star hotel you shouldn't expect good service. read more

Price rather decent with coupon, customer service quite friendly, and room cleanliness not bad. M'lady were in the area, and needed a place to sleep, and having an indoor pool is always a nice little bonus for us. In our room, there was some garbage left around garbage bin, and things left unplugged (microwave, alarm clock), as well the peep hole was covered. The water in the indoor pool was cold, but after a few laps I got used to it. The continental breakfast was rather excellent, with a good choice of very decent food, such as a waffle maker, cereal, and fruits. Also had a pretty good choice of drinks, consisting of coffee, tea, and one or two kinds of juice. The attendant at the front desk was rather friendly, greeting us with a smile both at arrival and on departure. All-in-all, I definitely see me returning to this venue again. read more

Second night here as I write this, listening to a chorus of screaming, laughing & loud voices from the pool, knowing that I'm not sleeping anytime soon. Called the front desk a half-hour ago to ask why there's a pool party still in full swing at 11 p.m.on a Wednesday, an hour after the posted close time. "It's not a party, we're allowing some guests to stay in later," replies the couldn't-be-less-concerned-about-this-sounding front desk clerk, who we know is sitting not more than 20 feet from said pool. "I'll ask them to keep it down." Not a decibel quieter after 30 minutes. There's a category of smallish stuff that I expect & shrug off at this price point: no seal around the door so every syllable of every passing conversation comes through, troubling evidence of past attempts to pry the door latch, refrigerator compressor that drones & surges like a running bread maker inside a running concrete mixer. Nothing on that list keeps me up swiping peevish grievances into a tiny glowing screen over an hour after I was really hoping to doze off and end the day. read more

Checked in without properly researching this hotel. Room was spacious and semi clean until we tried the pull out bed had no sheets, covered in dark stains. child woke up itchy the first night after the day went the bites turned into welts we looked up the hotel and found our exact room 202 (by the stairs) had a bed bug infestation the month prior and it's listed on multiple sites. We looked in fold out bed more thoroughly and found a bed bug and small red dots on the sheet from blood. Upon deemed it is truly infested we visited the desk and requested to check out and explained. The front desk person wasn't remotely apologetic. He knew they had a bed bug issue. He said no management was available, we left out contact info and bagged our remaining belongings while leaving a great deal behind to avoid the possibility of infestation at home. Management never reached out to contact us, as it was a business trip the room refund did go through but not a single management member reached out for any apology, even after the damage list was submitted they have yet to respond. Really disappointed, the best western 1-800 number was extremely helpful and even gave us a return call to see if the location followed up. read more

BED BUGS! Stayed here September, 2015, and room 209 is completely infested. Looked fine the night before, but we awoke to bugs in and all around the bed, and blood stains on the sheets. Seriously, one of the most traumatic experiences that I have ever had. Waited for over an hour to speak with management, but eventually gave up waiting and left. Firstly, I came here and they didn't have our reservation even though we called in a few days before. I have e never seen more than one person working here and no matter where you go it smells like weed. We have no choice but to stay here for two nights but the smell is so strange and follows you everywhere. Looking at the reviews I would say they are fair. The place is dated but I found our Suite (#411) clean, comfortable but a bit worn. The hotel is going through a major remodel this summer so be aware that the pool area is closed. For us the proximity to WMU is a plus and the fact that Holiday Inn is right next door should keep the management here on its toes, (however that inn has its challenges too). Tip! The forth floor was really quiet. Avoid first floor near or above pool area. Inspect your room. read more

It's a Best Western in Kalamazoo so my expectations were low to begin with, but holy cow this place was awful. First off, it either smelled like mildew or some sort of harsh chemical cleaner depending on what time of day. Second, the first time I stepped foot into the hotel I saw an industrial sized mouse trap in the corner by the entrance door. I'm just assuming that it was there because this place has a rodent problem, but hey maybe it serves some other function I am not aware of. Third, the window in our first floor room did not lock, but that's ok because they gave us a stick to wedge in there. Problem solved. I saved the best for last! From the time we arrived on Thursday to the time we left on Saturday the carpet in our room was wet. Yes, wet! DO NOT STAY IN ROOM 400. I wasn't going to write a bad review because I thought they were being helpful in remedying the fact that me and my children were covered in bed bug bites after staying there two nights. They moved us to a clean room and paid for all of our belongings to be laundered. Then they rented out the infested room 6 hours later. I know because we are still here and I spoke to the new occupants. The management clearly doesn't care for the health of the guests. Sad. Because it's a lovely property. read more

I guess you get what you pay for? Relatively clean, free wi-fi, located away from highway and city noise. But, air conditioning that works would be nice and the breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Overall....horrible experience! For starters, they don't offer discounts to law enforcement or emt/firefighters. The prices aren't too bad but the pet fee is a bit much. The worst part about our stay was the noise level. The structure of the building is obviously very old and has absolutely no sound barriers whatsoever. My husband and I drove 3 hours to Kalamazoo for a public safety officer test as part of the hiring process. This was a very crucial test and it was scheduled for early in the morning so we decided to drive in the night before so he could have plenty of rest before taking the test. It was the whole reason for staying in the hotel. The entire evening and overnight was awful. You could hear a mosquito fart 2 doors down, hell, you could practically smell it! The ceiling, the floor, all four walls were paper thin. The guests around, below, and above us weren't making any excessive noise at all but every move they made, every footstep, we heard it all and it sounded 10 times louder than it actually was. No joke, their footfalls would vibrate our room. There was nothing we could do. All rooms were booked as we were here on a weekend. In the morning during late checkout, we expressed very kindly how bad the experience was and no sympathy or compensation was offered to us for our troubles. A small discount would have been appropriate but they couldn't care less. We knew it wasn't their fault exactly but it is their responsibility to please every guest as best as they can and by not offering us anything at all, they failed miserably. I will not ever stay at this hotel again in the future and would not recommend it to anyone, unless you're ok with not sleeping at all. read more

Nice hotel. Not sure why the other reviews are bad. We were in town for a funeral and this hotel offered us a clean, quiet place to stay with friendly staff and a good breakfast. Brought my Grandma by the hotel one afternoon and we enjoyed a cup of coffee sitting and talking on the comfortable couch by the fireplace just off the lobby. This place was terrible!!!! We arrived to check in at 2:15pm & when we walked in there was no one behind the counter. After waiting for a while finally someone came out. I told her my name and informed her we were here to check in. She looks up my reservation in the system and tells me that there are no rooms ready yet because check in is at 3pm and there are no double rooms available. We never booked a double room we had a reservation for a King suite. She argued with me stating "well we have you down for a double room" I explained to her that I selected a King suite and even in my email confirmation it says King suite. So she looks in her system and says well we don't have any kings available yet either. But then tells me that housekeeping should be leaving soon so she could call me when my room is ready. I felt she was very rude and apparently didn't feel like doing check ins. But we got a room, we head upstairs and the one elevator they have moves extremely slow but we arrive to our room and it has a foul odor like sweat, it was dusty in the room and the towels were all stained from rusty pipes I'm assuming. Then we unpacked and left to go for dinner; when we came back neither one of our keys were working. So we went back downstairs to get new keys, came back up and they didn't work either. So this time I called and one of the front desk guys brought more. At first they weren't working for him either but after he held our door tight it worked for him. He tells us the lock just needs to be cleaned and he would come up to do that-no one ever came. We got our money back for the evening and we will NEVER stay at this location again. And they're missing out on a lot of money because we stay in hotels a lot. read more
