We recently had a sudden trip to Alton, Illinois for a funeral. Usually we stay in the Holiday Inn but discovered that the Best Western was newer and considerably cheaper, no brainer! It is a great little hotel, friendly wait staff, fresh modern rooms and the breakfast was pretty decent. Plus free Wi-Fi and a pool that is coming soon. I loved everything but the pillows. Ay, my aching neck. These were some sort of synthetic which did not mold to my needs. Next time, I would bring my own and probably sleep a bit better! read more

I came to stay at this hotel while visiting for my grandfathers funeral and I am extremely disappointed. First of all the room was dirty when we came in, they had to come back to clean the bathroom after we checked in. The quality of this room is also abysmal. The air filter desperately needs changed it smells like mildew and cigs. There's paint chipping off the wall and there are stains all over the carpet and curtains. Our room was not cleaned the next morning even though we were out of the room for 5 hours. One day 1 we ran out of hand soap and we had to go down to the front desk to get it bc they refused to bring it to us. The fridge doesn't work properly so my mom's medication that requires refrigeration went bad. The breakfast was mid at best. The TV and internet do not work! The internet is extremely slow and disconnects constantly. The tv doesn't have cable for some reason only YouTube and Netflix which again were useless because the internet doesn't work. I called the front desk to ask for a late check out, because our flight leaves at 6. Their website says we can pay an extra fee and stay until 4. Of course it is upon availability, which normally is granted if they are not fully booked. They were not fully booked, they actually had almost 50 rooms available. I explained the situation again and requested accommodation. Well instead of being accommodating the lady at the front desk threatened to make us check out early and call the police on us if we weren't out by 12:30. That is absolutely insane and It was pouring rain outside btw. After I asked to speak with her manager she just straight up hung up on me. I called back and she said the manager isn't in and hung up on me again. That's just completely unacceptable. I grew up here and this used to be one of the nicer hotels in the city, but it's clear they don't care about their rooms or their guests. I would advise anyone to book elsewhere. This was a terrible experience and I'm extremely disappointed. For $120 a night in Alton you would think it would be a little nicer at least. read more

Not the worst hotel, but the moment I walked in I was hit with the smell of smoke and marijuana. It was very dingy in there. The room had carpet stains, and it smelled like smoke and weed everywhere. I didn't even attempt to eat breakfast there. One nice thing is, they had a clean outdoor pool, which is the only reason why this isn't a one star review. We had a very rude encounter when we asked for extra towels at the front desk, they said they needed a room number which was fine, but the lady was very short with us. She was very snippy and said the towels needed to be returned by check out or we are fined $20 for each towel very rude experience! Furniture and everything in there was dated. Worst experience I've ever had at a hotel. I made a reservation 2 days in advance for 7/3/26 - 7/5/26 but they stated check in starts at 4pm. I sent a message to hotel management to see about a 12-1pm check in if possible. They responded with an approval email for a 12-1pm check in but when I arrived the lady at the counter said 1). I can't check in before 4p because the system won't allow her to do it, plus the rooms were being cleaned but she will call me when the room is ready. 2). Around 1:40p and said the room was ready but when I tried to check in she said her system was down and that I'll have to fill out the paperwork. Fine. I gave her my ID and she says because I'm from Missouri I have to pay an additional $200 fee and it can only be cash. Now I'm on I've league scholar but I know when I'm being played because as soon as I walked out, a $253 transaction was attempted on my account from Best Western Plus. Now how is that possible if the systems were down as she said prior. Never going back to that hotel. read more

Went online to reserve a room for Thursday May 30, 2024 thru hotels. Com paid for accessible room w king bed. Got to hotel and elevator was broken, they made me pay for new room on ground floor but KC or Casey the Manager refused to refund the online reservation for an accessible room upstairs w/broken elevator. This hotel observes its ADA compliance selectively, especially as it relates to trained and registered service dogs. I filed a complaint with the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division in early October 2024. If they selectively exclude trained and registered, and properly labeled service animals, my question is what will they do with the next wheel chair occupant? They established that basis/example in this case. Now, by not being held accountable, they can board the people they want and deny people they don't, specifically, the disabled. read more

Horrible customer service/Front desk clerk March 2024 Horrible customer service, the front seat woman was very rude can't socialize in the lobby, breakfast is terrible, drug addicts hang around the hotel horrible place to stay. The entire hotel is dusty. No wonder why my allergies are bad right now. The drug addicts are allowed to be in withdrawal in the lobby but others cannot socialize in the lobby. When we asked the reason for not being allowed to socialize it is because of their policy but a policy was never provided and was told the police would be called even after we paid for the rooms and were quiet customers. Worst customer service I have ever experience. Hotel cancelled my reservation with out calling then would not honor my price- I was charged doubled. I was then quoted one price and the clerk put additional day on my credit card without asking. Room smelled, beds were hard, pillows flat, curtains had mold on them. Bugs bugs and more bugs! Very dirty. Staff dosnt' care! Elevator is broken which is not big deal but you have to use the stair well that's filled with stink bugs and centipedes!!! One of the worst hotels by far on my road trip from east coast to west coast. This hotel from the start smelled like cigar from the moment you stepped into the lobby. We thought it would be better once entering the room to only find out this cigarette smell was even stronger in the room. We had to go out to buy air freshener and disinfectant spray and pretty much had to remove dust from all furniture. To top it off, the toilet was dirty with a yellow-brown ring of moss, the side of the tub had orange moss growing, and the blankets were stained with who knows what! We've stayed here twice now. First time the room wasn't bad just smelled because of the old carpet. This second time is the last. The lamp by the beds doesn't have a top on it so if it gets bumped the shade won't stay on. The lamp on the desk the lightbulb is hanging on by a thread so fire hazard. The light on the wall by the door flickers for awhile after being turned off. The phone is the room looks ancient and shockingly doesn't work. But the deal breaker is that we were told the first time we came that for housekeeping to come in and clean the room that our dog would need to be in a crate so we went out and got her one. We don't usually want housekeeping to come in so the first stay wasn't an issue. Unfortunately our second stay our son leaked through his diaper and so we rushed off to a funeral but left our dog in the crate and the sign on the door saying please make up the room. We come back and nothing has been done. Apparently they have a policy that if they hear barking and the door isn't answered then they won't clean the room. Had to ask for sheets so we could make the bed ourselves. Will NEVER stay here again. Go to the Comfort Inn instead. They are in the middle of remodeling and they are cheaper than this dump. read more

Stay here last night since I've stayed here better. The room was clean and the restroom was tidy. This morning when my daughter came back to the room with breakfast a little critter must have smelled the aroma so it crawled out to from under the TV to see what it was...the critter was a roach...a nasty filthy roach! I HATE ROACHES! When you see one you know there's a whole bunch more somewhere near. Don't think I'll be staying here anymore. The staff at this Best Western was rude and dismissive. I have stayed at this location many times and the service has been wonderful. The person working the desk and "Ann" the "manager" said that my reservation was wrong; and refused to put on a mask; and ultimately refused me a room. They also called to another hotel to refuse me service as well. I had just driven 6 hours with my reservation number and name of the clerk with whom I had made the reservation. She said "well it's wrong"! When I asked about the mask rules in Illinois the clerk said: "well I guess you are going to have to move to Illinois to find out"! Is this what our future looks like? I hope they get the necessary customer training they need. I don't agree that the "customer is always right", but that is why we have conversations to get clarity and understanding. We took a mini weekend vacation to Alton to see a friend's band, Boarderline, play at Fast Eddies Bon Air. We usually stay a Hampton Inns but they don't have one in Alton. We picked the one that looked the nicest. Walked in to a nice clean environment, staff was friendly. They gave us a room. When we got up to it it smelled of smoke. We went back down to the desk and she gave us another room with no problem. The room was nice and clean. The shower was nice and I liked the soap, bath and body works. My husband and I wanted a get away for the night and reserved a room at Alton, Illinois. When we arrived we were told they needed a $150 cash deposit since we live about 5 miles away. I started to protest and said we would go somewhere else but the clerk told me she had already swiped our card and a refund would take 7 to 10 business days. What a racket! My husband and I are in our 50's...they were afraid we would have a party so they required the deposit. What if our heat or water was out and we had to stay somewhere? Am complaining to corporate about this. The Hampton right behind us doesn't have this policy. Wont be staying here again. The room was $114 plus tax, cant believe this is going on. Worst service I have ever received. I was staying for work. I went downstairs for coffee in the morning when I got locked out of my room. I went back to the front desk 3 times to be given newly swiped keys to try that didn't work. On the third try I asked that we try something different. She then came up with me and tried a "clean" card that didn't work. Then told me they would have to call the maintenance man. And at this point I am very worried I am going to be late for work and ask how long this will take? She says she doesn't know he has to drive in. Then the GM comes and acts as if i have just been completely irrational, which i had not been, frustrated yes but that was it. Then she proceeded to tell me that i was not welcome to stay there the remainder of my stay and she was calling the cops which was absolutely crazy because i had done nothing! The maintenance man gets there he literally takes the faceplate off and replaced 4 AA batteries so I wait 30 minutes ended up being screamed at by the GM, and being told to leave over changing 4 AA batteries. No staff wearing masks at all, despite statewide mask mandate!! We checked in earlier this month and found two employees at front desk. Neither were wearing masks. We asked them about the Illinois statewide mask mandate that had been in effect for over a week. They looked at each other, laughed, and said that it is just up to the business if they want to implement masks, and they said Best Western is not requiring masks! This is sooo bogus! It's STATEWIDE!! Plus none of the staff, no housekeepers, no kitchen staff for the breakfast, no one wore masks! No signs at front door, so no guests wore wearing masks except for the visiting nurses staying there. Our room was just past the housekeeping office and there were always housekeepers standing in the hall, chatting away, laughing, gossiping, no professionalism whatsoever. In mornings around 7:00 (we stayed two nights) housekeepers were loudly talking and laughing despite the early hour. Complimentary breakfast was never open on time. Employees were smoking right outside the front door. Frankly, room was decently clean and comfortable, but felt every single employee was unprofessional. We even passed the front desk clerk once and he had his feet up on the desk and just waved as we walked by, not even attempting to be professional and put his feet down. There were always multiple employees chatting away in hallways and at front desk. We felt the staff was never professional. Would not recommend this place. read more

The first thing that needs to be said is that the staff here went above and beyond to accommodate my party. Also I love the building itself which is rare for a hotel like this but so what I loved it. I was pleasantly surprised by this Best Western. The room was very clean and and nicely appointed. It looked as if the hotel has some recent renovations. The beds were comfortable but the pillows were a little lumpy. I was impressed with the toiletries that were provided. For the price this was definitely a great stay and I would come back. Horrible experience. Came from out of town with friends. Went to our room on the 2nd floor and the entire floor & room smelled like weed. Went to the front desk only to be told by the night clerk it was not his problem. Called the police & they would not respond because it was a civil matter & the property manager would have to call & make a complaint for them to respond. We back inside & asked the night clerk if he could at least call the police & he said no not his problem & called us all racists. They didn't sit well with my husband so he spoke up & the night clerk threatened to hit my husband. We left & went to the Hampton Inn next door. I recommend the Hampton Inn. I had a wonderful stay at the Best Western in Alton after a long day of work and travel. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. I loved that they had a kuerig machine for coffee! I will never go here again. I am a BW rewards member but this specific one I won't be back to. They have a no smoking policy. However if you are on the floor or in the vicinity of where the smoke was coming from , the manager will go by her nose and if they GUESS it was you they take your 150 deposit. Even if it truly wasn't you. Even claimed it was ashes in the room when I asked to see , I COULDNT BECAUSE IT WAS A LIE. Bottom line they had to blame someone for it without a actual investigation , they picked me and it wasn't right.. there are two others who I have never had this problem with at all.. their procedure is different! I wouldn't recommend staying here AT ALL. If your local you need 150cash deposit on top of the price for the room... there is another on college ave where they do things totally different. We stay here often (10 or more days annually). We have never been disappointed. Staff is very accommodating. Really clean. Above average breakfast. Comfy beds. I now measure other hotels that we stay in against this one and most disappoint in the comparison. read more
