My wife and I stayed at the Best Western Plus Steeplegate Inn in Davenport, Iowa, during our recent vacation to the Quad Cities. We selected the Best Western Plus Steeplegate Inn in Davenport after a thorough search for hotels with three stars or above and the best rates. This hotel stood out for its competitive rates and quality. Despite ongoing renovations, the hotel offered excellent value for money, with rates significantly lower than other comparable hotels. While I have given the Best Western Plus Steeplegate Inn a five-star rating, it's important to note that this is not a reflection of it being a five-star hotel. I would categorize it as a three-star hotel, but I am giving it a five-star review based on our positive experience. Despite some areas that could be improved, our overall satisfaction was high, considering the room cost us only $263 for a three-night stay, which was an excellent value for the amenities and service provided. Here are some of the favorable aspects that contributed to our five-star rating. Our room had a King-sized bed that was not just comfortable but also came with tons of pillows for a restful sleep. We had a microwave and a mini-fridge with a tiny freezer for our convenience and a super comfortable stuffed leather chair with an oversized rolling ottoman for relaxation. The mini-Keurig/coffee station was a nice touch, and the vast and lovely body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion dispensers in the shower added to the comfort. The sizeable, beautiful corner closet, thick walls, and a nice desk with handy plugs were all well-thought-out amenities. The hotel lobby was clean like our room was, and certainly impressive looking, with an ATM, mini-store to purchase any needed necessities such as charging cords, a full-sized coffee station with disposable cups, and plenty of lush oversized furniture. They had a nice full fitness room with weights, treadmills, exercise bikes, and more, which we appreciated but didn't get to use during our trip. There was also a fully enclosed courtyard in the middle of the hotel, which was quite lovely. The indoor atrium was enormous, with extremely high ceilings and superb acoustics. The swimming pool, which was gated with a cute little white picket fence with a latching gate, was small and kidney-shaped, with a range of 3 ft to 5 ft deep water, which was comfortably warm. There was a jacuzzi, but unfortunately, it was boarded over during our visit and unusable. There was also a minimal gaming area with several arcade games. A highlight of this hotel is the absolutely fabulous bar which is attached to it called 1 Hundred West that has live music, fantastic food, occasional live music, and out-of-this-world drinks (I mean, really, the drinks were high class. The hotel may have been about a three-star hotel, but 1 Hundred West is a five-star bar). The best part was the bartenders, including Matt, who has a great sense of humor and lovely mannerisms and makes a mean Manhatten, and Anthony, who was an absolute delight to speak to and a pleasure to be around. Anthony is truly dedicated to his craft as a bartender and is a very kind-hearted gentleman who knocked our socks off when he made our drinks (be sure to try his grasshopper!). The bar is a great place to visit whether or not you drink, and it is immaculately clean and has a modern, sleek look. We had an absolute delight at the bar and can't recommend it highly enough if you're in the Q.C. area. The person who checked us into the hotel was charming and attentive. We never used room service, but it was available, as were wake-up calls, free Wi-Fi, hardwired internet, and complimentary amenities available by request at the front desk, such as toothbrushes, shaving cream, razors, sewing kits, combs, and other essentials. The hotel also boasts a coin laundry on the bottom floor, but we did not visit that during our trip. There were, however, a few minor downsides to the hotel. Although they were in the middle of renovation and had that posted, there were some parts, such as ceiling panels in the hallways, that fell through and needed to be repaired, which detracted from the overall pleasantness of our stay. There was a shower but no tub, and the lip of the shower at the bottom was only about an inch tall, so no matter how hard you tried to be careful, water splashed out all over the bathroom floor, so improvements could be made there. Also, I noticed there were no safety handles in or around the shower or bathroom, and as I have severe back issues, I nearly slipped several times, so if I had any feedback for the rooms, it would be those in the bathroom. Other than those issues, our room was very nice, extremely roomy, and came with many amenities and lovely decorations. It had a very classic and clean, open feel. We believe that addressing these issues could further enhance the guest experience. read more

So adult pool time is 9-10pm. We waited till adult time. Get my suit on and head down and still lots of youngsters in the pool at 20 after 10. After swimming a good 10 minutes I ask them if they are over 18. No. Dad says "are they bothering you". I say"yes". He says take it up with the front desk. I say "you want to go that way". No response. So I get out of the pool and go to the desk and when the guy shows up I ask him to ask them to get out. He says he's just been out there and told them the pool is closing. I asked if he was going to leave it open another hour so I could have my adult swim. No. Pool closes at 10. I said so there actually is no adult time and he says no because there haven't been many people in it today. Then he told me I should've come to him earlier. Okay, well wtf do you have a time for adults??!!! Also, we had our "privacy please" sign on the door the entire time we were there and they still came in! I have been a loyal Best Western member since the 90s and I've never come across a place like this. I do not recommend. read more

We stay here a lot! Unless you go back to the way you were, we will not be back as there are other hotels! Our visit in May was terrible! I told you in my post a year ago to go back to the way you were and you went downhill! I gave you five stars then just to Hope you would! Now you get one Star! This hotel used to be wonderful and clean and the people used to be friendly and now the beds go into the middle and are old and it smells, and the breakfast sucks and the bar closed and the only person that was friendly was the day manager! If you need my help getting you back in shape, let me know. I would definitely work with you for a good three months for a good stipend, but I would get you back on track because other people that stayed there that we ran into at breakfast said the same thing, as this hotel is going downhill fast unless that's what you want it to do! read more

Paid $200 for a king bed with pullout sofa for one night. Upon checking in room was not clean. There was urine on the toilet and there were white stains on the sofa couch. All were able to be cleaned with a washcloth. There was no additional linens in the room to function with the sofa bed had to walk to the front counter and ask for this and was told that they had no extra pillows, but had blanket blankets. The entire hotel is in need of major updates, including the courtyard which has broken and creaky deck boards in addition to the which have on all of the molding around the floor. Both the shampoo dispensers were off the wall and laying next to the tub and overall very disappointed with this stay for the price that it . read more

Overall a great place to stay, right off the interstate so very convenient, gas station at the end of the road. King room was very nice, good amenities, good lighting. A little outdated on the plugs for phones etc. Had to pull night stand out for plug in, no usb on lamps or anything like that. Bed wasn't to my liking but I admit I am picky (I travel alot) The breakfast is good, some arcade games and plenty of seating, lota of parking. I gave 4 stars cuz they really need some new towels. Very scratchy and worn. But overall was a nice place to stay read more

Not impressed. Water for jacuzzi came out green so I passed on that. There were ants, everything in that room was slightly sticky. One of the dispensers in the shower was off the wall, but worse, the exhaust fan was shockingly loud. The heat/air unit was loud. For how big the room is the TV was so small and clear across the room. No modern outlets for charging phones without being plugged into a charging base and then the outlet. This place was foul. I'm not sure where the great reviews come from. The place is run down, wires exposed in the ceiling, kids running around ruining the environment for everyone, weird lotion marks on the carpet everywhere. Not even a blanket on the bed, just sheets. It was just gross. We checked out within 10mins of checking in. They offered to move us to another room, we declined, as that doesn't change the state of the hotel nor does it change the crowd. I was told to check in with booking.com as that is where we booked. I called them and they said the property was refusing to issue a refund... for a room we didn't use. Stayed in room 130. Avoid this room like the plague. Room is right next to a door that leads outside. Great you think- easy access to your car. Sure, but the trade off is hearing that door slam shut all night. Every time someone goes in or out it slams shut. No chance of getting any restful sleep. Also the hall way smells like curry. I assume the owners live in the hotel and live in that wing of the hotel. If you like curry no big deal. Room was sort of clean, but hairs not belonging to me greeted me on the sheets. Had a queen room so we switched to the other bed. Room was $140 bucks. Not worth it. I get it has a pool and pool table and perhaps it's a fun spot for a birthday party for kids. We really enjoyed our stay at the Best Western Steeplegate in Davenport. The rooms are clean and comfortable. It was just right for us. The staff is friendly and courteous. They made sure we had everything we needed. The free buffet breakfast was very tasty with a selection of western or regular eggs, waffles, bacon, sausage links, fresh fruit, yogurt, toast and cereal. The word " Feast " doesn't quite do justice to the Thanksgiving Buffett!! Sorry, should have posted this review sooner. Due to a variety of factors we decided not to prepare Thanksgiving Dinner at home, but instead to try the Steeplegate Buffet. Wow!! Should have done this years ago. This is the start of a Family Tradition (I hope!)! No more cooking for me!! No cleanup afterwards!!! Delicious, unlimited choices for all courses from appetizer to dessert. Our waitress was fantastic!! And made sure everything was great!! I didn't think to take pictures of the well displayed food, manned carving station or dining area. Did take picture of menu though. We are Hampton Inn folks. This time through Davenport we chose to first eat at the Red Lantern, then hop down the road a bit to make our morning escape. We chose the Best Western Plus Steeplechase as the reviews were so positive. We have family in DC area, and they have a pup, so we thought, "Hum. We can check that box!...For when they travel to visit us at Lake Okoboji.." Talk about surprised! We entered a hospitality PLUS....CLEAN... and quiet property! They have an on-site restaurant (we had eaten earlier, but they had many diners on this Tuesday night... they offer a wonderful, full breakfast in the morning. Eggs, bacon, sausage, you make waffles, biscuits and sausage gravy, fruit, yogurt, breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal, freshly baked pastries... I could go on.... DELICIOUS! And well staffed for your requests and cleanliness. The rooms were comfortable, well appointed, clean and spacious! All the staff were friendly and accommodating! Happy staff =happy guests! The pool area VERY INVITING! They enforce quiet hours and a perk for us adults-offer adult swim in the evenings. We will be back! read more

DO NOT HOST AN EVENT HERE!!! We hosted our wedding reception here back in July and it was an absolute disaster!! they had the heat on in the event room to 80 when we arrived and when we adjusted the thermostat, hotel staff came back around and turned it back up. it was so hot in the event room, we had family members leave very shortly after the wedding party arrival. the hotel staff was incredibly unhelpful and rude, refused to follow through on what we'd planned with their event planner- which left months before our wedding and we were never contacted. the only good part was the wait staff, even though there was 1 server and 1 bartender for 150 people. they were kind and on top of everything all night. we've attempted to go through corporate, called and spoke to the hotel manager, and they all refuse to give us any sort of compensation even though we spent over $3000. I will NEVER return to this awful establishment and highly recommend avoiding it. I waited to post this in hopes that they'd make things right but our calls are never returned. read more

Yesterday, my mom and I made an impromptu trip to Davenport to visit my grandma in the hospital. While on the road, we called the hotel and Hannah did an amazing job helping is make the reservation. Once at the hotel, check in went smoothly. The room and bathroom were nicely decorated, big tv, and the beds were very comfortable. The guy at the bar was very nice and he gave us half price on a bottle of wine and made a delicious grasshopper milkshake. Today, breakfast was good. Options of: scrambled eggs, cereal, sausage, bacon, bsgels, coffee, and Orange juice. Quan did a fantastic job helping us with an email issue we were having and check out was easy. DON'T STAY - DEFINITE HARD STOP - DON'T STAY!!! We wanted to spend a nice weekend in the Quad Cities last weekend and found that the Best Western Steeplegate had jacuzzi suites. We are out of town guests and didn't know much about the area, but THOUGHT Best Western was a reliable brand. WRONG!!! There is so much wrong with this hotel (room) it isn't funny! Unbeknownst to us, the hotel was being renovated and wasn't told about it until we complained about: 1) The room smelled wet and moldy 2) Carpet was buckled - TRIP HAZARD 3) TV didn't work - when "fixed" they STRETCHED a surge protector from interior wall to TV, leaving the cable hanging above the ground - CODE VIOLATION!! 4) Room's telephone flashed the entire time we were there. Couldn't turn it off or call front desk about it - all buttons were stuck! 5) The toilet in main bathroom moved every time someone stood up. 6) ONLY 1 "Regular" coffee was given and was told that they didn't have anymore to allows us to have 2 cups of coffee - we had to share. 7) THE JACUZZI WAS DISGUSTING!!!! Mold and rust on grout and all tub jets!! VOMIT!!!! What has been marinating in those areas??? GROSS!!! read more

Meh. It was an alright spot to stay it was clean and the pool area looked nice. There is a restaurant and bar here as well. Looks like a nice venue for a get together. There was some sort of event being held perhaps a wedding? Tons of people and it was pretty noisy but once we got to our room we couldn't really hear any of it. Our room had a faint smell of smoke which bothered me but I was too tired to make much of a complaint. Slept great and had a nice breakfast so I don't have anything negative besides the smoke smell. Decent place to stay and seems like a nice venue for an event. read more

One month later on a return visit was still broken.Air-conditioning wasn't working in room during heat wave so we were moved to another room with mold in the bathtub. There is a restaurant located inside the hotel which makes dining convenient for dinner time. My room had everything I needed except for lotion. Overall, great stay. AMAZING pool; sucky breakfast. This Best Western was very comfortable and well-appointed. Davenport was a little scary (it looks very depressed,) so finding a nice, clean and comfortable motel was a great relief. The swimming pool is hot! In a very good way!! I could have swum all night long! This is my dream pool!! We were promised a hot breakfast and instead got a bag with a bottle of water, granola bar and muffins. Ick! Some of our bags had a nice granola bar and some had cheap and crappy ones. Regardless, it was hardly a hot breakfast and SO MUCH WASTE!! It was better when they let us pick out what we wanted - instead we got muffins we didn't eat, and too many granola bars. Ugh. read more

I really like this hotel. I have to come to Davenport about 4-5 times a year and I stay at this hotel every time due to how close it is to the office and the fact that it has a good restaurant and bar in the hotel. The rooms are always reasonably priced and are always very clean and in working order. The staff is always friendly when I check in as well, which is pretty important after you spent a day traveling or working on computers. read more

Staying at a hotel is always something that makes me a bit nervous. You never really know what to expect. You hope for the best but often find yourself disappointed in some way. We always read reviews on hotels before we book and were surprised when this hotel had so many really nice reviews. Upon arrival the front desk staff promptly greeted us- check in was a breeze and the staff thus far have been absolutely professional and accommodating. Because of an error on my end the room we booked (for a week later than we were actually staying ) wasn't available however the staff was able to quickly fix and upgrade us to a room we were super excited to get to stay in. The king suite with in room jacuzzi was clean, fresh and comfortable. I'm the type of person that rips the sheets off the bed to check for cleanliness and inspects every inch of the room to make sure that we will be safe staying and let me tell you this hotel does not disappoint. We are very pleased all together with every aspect of our stay! It's 3:00 am so we haven't had the breakfast yet but if it is anything like the rest of our stay, it too will receive a great review. We will absolutely be staying here again. It's not too far from our home so it will be a nice little get away when we want to get away from home :) keep up the great work, Steeplegate! We stayed at this hotel over the weekend for a friend's wedding (reception located in the hotel). I recently had an amazing Best Western experience in Waterbury, VT and couldn't help but be curious to see what this location had in store for us. Kudos to the Stonegate for seeming to pull off not only an on-site restaurant but a sports bar and event space as well. The facility is on the outdated side of things but clean. Our room was very spacious and suited us well (pretty handy to crawl our way back up to the room after the wedding shenanigans of the evening). The most impressive part of our stay, similar to Waterbury, is the full breakfast spread. I'm not talking Holiday Inn egg rounds, I'm talking scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, roasted seasoned potatoes, biscuits and gravy. Yum. I thought $120 seemed a little high given the location but the breakfast sendoff helped ease the pain. read more

Love this place period. The location down a dead end road was a little funky but once there it's nice. Very large location with all sorts of amenities. Inside and outside 'courtyards' pool table and arcade games, pool and two full restaurants. The room was nice, clean and big. Fridge, shower etc all worked great. 2 sinks, comfortable...no complaints. Ate in the 100west room for a great dinner. Meal was good, but the bartender was a true class act professional, a wonderful bar keep with skills and also very attentive server for our meal. Front desk staff was very polite and helpful. Breakfast was on real plates, cups and silverware!. They had a great selection and everything was fresh and hot, one of the best we've had. If your passing thru Davenport this is the place to stay. read more

The Food puts it over the top! Check in quick and painless with friendly staff. Hotel is unique 5 sided shape allowing for parking all the way around. It left us lots of room to park our truck and 50' trailer plus a lower truck parking area. The interior of the hotel rooms has tables and chairs for relaxing & the pool is separated by a white gate. Now for the best part! We dropped our bags and headed to the bar & grille as they would be closing soon. We got a bucket of beer which we needed after driving all day across Nebraska. My husband loves the sausage & cheese plate appetizer and I get the chicken, bacon, green apple, cranberry, pecan salad! Both wonderful and waitstaff courteous and attentive. The room & bathroom were both clean - no funky smells. Snuggled into comfy bed and pillows. Amazing food again - Breakfast is in their restaurant beautifully laid out with real china, silverware, and juice glasses (no plastic here) serving eggs (cheese & salsa available) bacon, sausage, potatoes, little pancakes with a big pile of whipped butter plus all the regular items waffle maker, breads, cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc. We travel 3 weeks a month and stay in hotels around or below $100. This hotel was way out of my expected zone for the price. This was our 2nd stay and will definitely stay again when passing through. read more

We decided to call it a night and stayed at the BESTWESTERN Plus Steeplegate Inn. We had another wonderful experience with the front desk staff who were really helpful. We arrived late around 8:45PM and the one of the hotel's restaurant THE PRAIRIE GRILL closes at 9:00PM. The lady in the restaurant ( I think her name was ALICIA) was really really helpful, jolly and accomodated us even though we only have a few minutes left before the restaurant closes. She even happily told us to take our time and keeps checking on us to make sure we are doing okay. We ordered sirloin steak with mashed potato, fettucine alfredo, grilled cheese sandwich, mac & cheese and fries which are ALL SO DELICIOUS. The other restaurant (1 HUNDRED WEST) closes at 11:00PM. The rooms were very nice just like what it says on the website. They have a indoor heated pool that closes 10:00PM for kids under 18 years of age and 11:00PM for adults. Check the website for all the amenities of this great location here in Davenport, Iowa. This location will be one of our stops again soon. read more

Not too shabby for a Friday night fish fry! I was in the Quad Cities for family stuff and my hubster's grandfather took us here for a fish fry. We had the all you can eat fish- deep fried and steamed. And when they say all you can eat, they mean it! I think between the 6 of us, we had a TON of fish. The breading is odd...but good! Being from WI, I expect it to be beer battered and this was different. It was good though. It came with all you can eat fries, coleslaw, and raw veggies. I believe the price was about $13. Not bad at all. The waitstaff was SUPER fast and polite- catering to my grandfather's every need (and he is a demanding old one ;) ). I had a bourbon old fashioned with it and it was strong! Just like it should be! Bottom line...It's lent and you need fish in the quad cities- go here- fast, inexpensive, and great service. read more
