    Hungry?
    David B.

Real time review I just ordered my food and now they are on the clock. As I wait I see a lot of to go meal going out. This is our first time getting an order to go here . The lady behind the counter is on the move and doing the work of about three people. They speak real Chinese here so I'm excited this place looks legit lol. She is speaking to the cooks in Chinese and my personal translation I think she is telling them to bust a move lol. There is a small herd of people waiting.I placed my order when I came in the door so I could make my on real time assessment.I've been waiting ten minutes so far. If the food is awesome it will have been worth the wait. I hope she speaks some more Chinese to them cooks because I Was hungry when I walk into the restaurant lol. I just heard one of the cooks yell back in Chinese and once again my translation is "I'm busting a move back here good food takes time " lol Once again this is my translation .I can tell you that the food is reasonable priced. I just heard a Christian song playing inside. That alone I will give them three stars right off the jump. I'm serious not delirious .Twenty minutes and our food has arrived Boom! Lol we ordered chicken and mixed vegetables and that was the meal of the night. Delicious and loaded enough to feed two or three people. Very generous and tasty.we also had the general chicken that was also delicious. I put some of their hot sauce on mine to make it spicy Boom! Crab Rangoon's,egg rolls and teriyaki chicken that was good as well.Bottom line this place is Authentic and superb.God Bless all my fellow foodies Always

The food is so good that I was halfway done before I remembered to take a picture.

The food is the best in the area. The prices are reasonable and reflect well with the food. The service is always great. My go to is their shrimp fried rice- spicy!

This is always my go to spot for excellent Chinese food especially the chicken wings. The past few times not so good. This time with the chicken wings are the worst ever. Couldn't even bite into it.

I've been going to this restaurant for over 10 years. It's always clean and I like that the food is hot and fresh. Even though they have changed owner a few times over the years, they've been consistent.

    The hot and sour soup

Went here for lunch, and although I did not have one of their reasonably priced lunch specials, what I did have was pretty darn good! I had the General Chicken (their version of General Tso that was not spicy at all, but had some tang and a little bit of sweet, which was what I was looking for) w/lo mein noodles (I like that they let you sub instead of rice, a lot of places I have been to will not), a side order of crab rangoons, and hot and sour soup. The chicken was good, the lo mein noodles as well, but the crab rangoons were a little lacking (sorry to say, I have had better). I did not care for the egg roll that came w/my meal, but then I am super picky about my egg rolls. The rest of the members, especially the kiddos, seemed to love them. The standout to me here was the hot and sour soup! I am very picky about my hot & sour and this one was superb! Fantastic ingredients, just enough spicy heat to clear the sinuses and a wonderful array of mushrooms! Honestly, I could have had just the soup and noodles and been happily satiated. As a family of 6 we still had 3 boxes of leftovers to take home in the end, so needless to say, the portions here are pretty huge! The seating area is pretty small and there are more booths than tables, but thankfully there wasn't a lot of people there, so we were able to combine 3 of the 2 seater tables to accommodate our party.

As a Bay Area foodie, I'm always searching for Chinese food that gives me that same feeling I get in San Francisco or Houston's Chinatown. Lam's comes close. The ingredients taste fresh, everything is made to order, the proteins are tender, and the flavors have depth without being heavy or overdone. This visit, I ordered the scallion beef, and it was excellent--tender beef, plenty of scallions and onions, and beautifully seasoned. I asked for something spicy on the side, thinking sambal or hot chili sauce, and they brought me chili crisp. Perfect. And yes, I know sweet and sour pork can sound cliché, but theirs deserves some respect. It's made with cubes of tender pork, bell peppers and pineapple, and the sauce isn't cloyingly sweet. The quality of the pork makes the dish. I'm already looking forward to the leftovers. Other favorites include the string beans with ground pork and the beef with broccoli. Both are stellar. They also have an extensive dim sum menu. It's ordered from the menu rather than served from carts, which means there's plenty more for me to work my way through. There's something comforting about eating here. Seeing families gathered around the tables enjoying Chinese food sometimes makes me a little homesick for meals out with my mom. Food has a funny way of doing that. The restaurant itself is clean, comfortable and nicely air-conditioned, with a large live seafood/lobster tank. Service is friendly and fast. Portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and there's an easy parking lot right outside. Lam's Kitchen has earned a permanent spot in my rotation. I'll happily keep making the drive to Matthews and eating my way through the menu. Life is too short not to eat well. Get out there and find your next meal.

We thought, "Well, at least we should get great service since no one else is here." Unfortunately, that was far from the case. I have a serious crustacean allergy, so before ordering, I simply wanted to confirm whether the crab was imitation crab. Our waitress seemed to have no idea what I was asking and, even more concerning, showed very little interest in the fact that I was asking because of a food allergy. Food allergies should always be taken seriously in a restaurant. I ordered the orange chicken, expecting it to be flavorful and tender. Instead, the chicken was so dry it was almost impossible to eat, and it tasted like it had been fried in old grease. I ended up sending it back. The service made the experience even worse. When our waitress originally brought the food to the table, there was absolutely no grace or care. She practically slung the plate onto the table and nearly dumped the entire thing. There was no apology or acknowledgment. After I sent the chicken back, she went into the kitchen, and we could hear her and the cook yelling back and forth. It was honestly wild and extremely unprofessional. Thankfully, we were the only customers in the restaurant. After that, our waitress essentially disappeared. We were never offered drink refills, and no one even asked whether we wanted a box for the leftover sushi. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. This place used to be great, which makes the experience even more disappointing. I would definitely recommend reading the recent reviews before deciding to eat here. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I can understand why the reviews have changed so much. Wish I could give zero stars.

That's a problem if the cook can't identify peanuts and cashews. This time I ordered the Twice Cooked Pork and received thick planks of overcooked pork. Maybe the cook was confused and was attempting to season and cook it like Pernil because this one was made with red food colouring and cayenne. I also ordered my fave moo shoo chicken- which came with the 'pancakes' but no duk sauce. This is a big oversight for this dish. And also no rice. Friday afternoon - peak lunch hour, this place is tucked away a bit, but when we came in the doors, every table was occupied (except 1).... Which worked out for us. Menu and photos of the dishes online looked entreaging and I am so glad we tried this place. Staffers were quick to seat us (at the last table available), but very quickly you can tell how fast/efficent the service was here and the number of customers they crank through. No noodles this time, but I will definitely be going back if I find myself in the Matthews area for whatever reason. Eggplant w/Garlic Sauce is definitely a must try and their mongolian beef was tasty. Both dishes came with rice (and we shared). Intreagued to try the rest of the menu!!

I'm inclined to believe this was intentional and that they know what they're doing. The cucumbers were not good at all. It's important to note that the fried tofu add-on was excellent. They used soft tofu and it was fried to perfection. The service was standard. The food was brought out quickly. I don't know what I was expecting coming from the Bay Area. I think this place "works" but if you've got a real hankering for good Chinese food, this is not for you. (To echo what Evan Z. wrote. Thanks for the review, it definitely helped levelset expectations!)
