Today was my first time in this grocery store and it just happened to be here at the right time and right place. It's a medium sized grocery store that has more Latin flavors than just average grocery food stuff. I was dying of thirst thirst because of the excessive heat, and the only thing that I wanted was a juice or cold ice tea. There was a large cooler filled with just Arizona Ice Tea, however I didn't see the diet tea anywhere. There is a small kitchen area which was interesting, and I noticed a lot of fried chicken there. There is no bakery which would have been good to pick up a muffin or something small to eat. This store is very basic, no fris, and very few modern amenities. I only noticed one employee in the store and he was busy stocking shelves. This store is clean and it serves customers for the basic necessities that they are looking for. read more

Getting in and out of here, may the odds be in your favor. Horrible location logistics wise, as Telegraph, N Kings Hwy, and 495. The parking lot on the weekends is jammed. Definitely go weekdays. Would like to say thank you to the kind employees. They work hard and are always helpful. Being a single dad is great, but sometimes got to be careful budgeting. This store helps with meats, bakery, vegetables, and fruits. They have a wonderful selection. Store is clean enough, and while crowded, the prices make it worth this. Happy to go here and there. Bestway Supermercado is a local grocery chain that offers a good selection of latin eats, along with produce and meats. I came here to get some large-sized tortillas, which they had. Their meats looked fresh, and I was surprised that their short ribs were super competitively priced! There's also a hot food counter that had fried chicken, plaintains, etc.; I may have to check them on the next visit. The registers move along quickly, and the staff are friendly. A spur of the moment decision lead me to Bestway Supermercado, and I have to say that the experience wasn't all that bad. I often hit a Latin market on Rt 1, so I'm not new to this type of shopping experience where the smells of real food hit you as soon as you enter the doors and strange but exciting items can be had just a few coin. Yes, this place is pretty much the same; however, it is well-lit and stylistically, its layout seems a bit closer to Safeway. Still, overall, it was a pretty nice experience. Just ok if you need an item or two...SERIOUSLY check the dates on anything you purchase! They tend to be expired or close to. A large produce section which you can at least give the eye test, they sell fresh seafood but I won't test those waters. read more

I bought shrimp 2 days ago and I couldn't make it so I put it into the refrigerator and the next day I went to take it out and make food and when I opened the bag a disgusting smell comes out. I don't like a few hours inside a fridge should do this to shrimp because it also had white spots all over. I went to complain today and the manager said to bring him the bag, I threw it away yesterday because it was so unsanitary for me and my family. He said without the bag there's nothing he could do and left in the middle of the conversation. I was upset with the whole situation because how can a store that makes a lot not be able to return $15 for something that is their fault. read more

I went here about 3-4 years ago when I was turned off because one of the items that was marked down on sale rang the regular price and when I pointed it out to the cashier, she looked at me like I was lying, stomped off to the aisle, ripped off the tag and angrily told me it was an old price but fine, we will just ring you up the sale price as she proceeded to angrily ring the items I have as if it's my fault. I went back a second time, about 2 years ago, as I was in a time crunch and this was on my way from work and bought meat. When I cooked the meat, it tasted like nothing. Like it was frozen, thawed and re-frozen. It also had a bad smell so we ended up tossing it in the trash. (I should have read the reviews and saw one of them that said to avoid the frozen and meat section). Yesterday was the last straw - I went in as I needed ingredients for tacos and picked up a cabbage as well. Cashier rang me up as she was talking on her cellphone. I saw that she rang me up for broccoli and I told her so, she changed it, still on her phone, not acknowledging me at all. I put in my ATM/credit card and told her I wanted to pay credit, she told me "no, ATM only. put your pin" to which I said yes but can I elect to use it as credit as that's my preference. She yelled at me that "No. ATM only. Your card is an ATM so you need pin!" I told her yes, I can but I can also use it without putting my pin and it will be used as a credit card as it does have the Visa logo in there. She still insisted as she proceeded to yell at me: "No. ATM! Need pin number!" I tried to fish for cash but was short so I didn't have a choice at this point & all I wanted was to go home after a long day at work so I put in my pin to complete the transaction. Oh and she had her phone to her ear the entire time, talking to somebody. Once may be a fluke but three times? I think that means I need to take my business elsewhere. read more

If you're looking for a place with cheap cuts of meat and fresh produce, look no further. Don't be scared of the name, embrace it! I have a friend who refuses to shop here because he thinks it's "all Spanish stuff", which is borderline racist---but that's another story. I went in Bestway for a few beers and came out with four bags of groceries! I love the ethnic items at low prices and when I saw how fresh all the meat was, my face lit up. The fishy smell you might notice coming in is from all the fish in the back sitting out. I'm not sure I'd get any fish from here but the cuts of meats looked colorful and fresh. The staples of a meal weren't pricey, it's all the processed stuff that's a little bit more. Everything is easy to find, they have a variety of beers (some imported), and there's even a yummy food truck in the parking lot on warm days. If you need something quick for dinner and pass this before Wal-Mart, give it a try, you'll be surprised. read more

I've been in here a couple of times to grab a few items. They have an excellent selection of dried chili's and other Latin ingredients. Additionally, it is extremely convenient to my boyfriend's apartment so for getting last minute items, this is definitely a good place to go. The produce is only so so and honestly I can never see myself buying the beef, chicken or pork here, but then I see some of the reviewers are fans so perhaps i should give it a try. I wouldn't say it's the best way for everything, but for cheaper produce, spices and a ginormous selection of Cotija cheese varieties, you've come to the right place. All of the other boring supermarkets like Whole Fools (I mean "Foods"), Giant, and Safeway, feel artificial after shopping at Bestway. I had no idea what type of grocery store this was, so I just never saw this as an option for grocery shopping. But I wish I'd checked it out sooner. The produce selection is huge. They even have bulk options available at really great prices. Although I didn't see any organic selections for fruits or vegetables. I was in and out and found everything I needed fairly quickly. This is my go-to store for barbecue meats: full packer briskets, whole racks of ribs (beef and pork), whole chickens and wings, and a decent selection of fresh head-on fish. Just bag it, hand it to the fishmonger for cleaning and scaling, and tip a buck. Also got some nice offal like tripe, hearts, chicken feet, and the occasional frozen pigs head. Good selection of Latino foodstuffs, beans, masa, manteca, broad selection of dried spices and chilis, and their vegetables are fresh and reasonably priced. They even have some Carribeean items. Definitely doublecheck the freshness date on perishables; I was about to pickup some frozen octopus when I saw that they'd expired over a month ago, but you can get some sweet deals on about-to-expire veggies and fruits, which they shrinkwrap and place at the end of the potato aisle. read more

Do you know how hard it is to find green platains in VA? It's hard man! The struggle! Giant has platains that are "green" but they're soft inside and sweet and not ideal for when you want to make tostones. They also have fresh guayabas! OMG I haven't seen guayabas in NY for months! And they have the little yellow ones and the green sour ones! And golden apples!!!!! And tamarind!!! And ginups!!!! This is the mecca of Hispanic food. you would think that the prices here would be cheaper than your average safeway, but it's not...even though it's owned by koreans. try lotte or h mart instead. i was disappointed when i only wanted 1 carrot and a small head of cabbage...there were huge bags of carrots for sale and the cabbage were all wrapped in saran wrap. no thanks. and yes, it does smell here...but the good side...they did sell logan's chorizo here. but still does not entice me to go there again. read more

So you want to save money on your grocery bill this is the place to go. They have all of the american, latino and many asian vegetables. For example we got 15 limes for a $1, 50cents per avocado, Talapia is $2.99/lb. The dairy and dry goods aren't really any cheaper. As far as the chicken look at it very closely. Despite our chicken being labeled to expire in 10 days when we looked closely at home we noticed it looked gray and indeed when we opened the bag is was spoiled. The staff are super friendly and helpful, affordable prices on produce. Yes it is an older store, yes there is a slight odor, but what fish market does not have a slight odor. The best is the prepared food behind the Customer Service desk 3 pc fried chicken $2.99 seasoned better than KFC yes I was Shocked! and the Fried Seasoned Pork aka chicharrones $4.99 OMG! and they give you A LOT, the chicken legs are JUMBO! they sell out of their hot foods daily it is just that good a great cheap lunch alternative Don't judge a book by its cover. Most of time I've shopped here the place is stocked and usually has what I need. Avoid the frozen foods esp the veggies. The frozen green beans I bought had freezer burn, so it was completely unusable. Meat is cheap but you get what you pay for. Who knows where it's sourced from. I go here for the produce (plantains, cilantro, etc) mainly. There is a teeny tiny section of Asian products which is great if I need fish or soy sauce in a pinch when I can't get out to LA Mart or Global Foods. read more

I wish i could give a 0 star rating. They are notorious for having spoiled meat, fish and poultry for sale. I have bought all 3 on different occasions and they were inedible!! Once i unwrapped the food, the smell was hourandous and the staff don't care that they sell almost rotting food to customers. Great prices for produce and hard to find Central American American foodstuffs. The Seafood is right up front so you can eyeball it for freshness. That said the Clams and Mussels are kept up front long after their peak, so examine carefully. The meat and poultry sections sometimes have questionable items so proceed with caution. The worst part is the frozen food meat and seafood items. I have noticed that they seem to relabel the items that have not moved after the expiration dates. The most amusing items were the pig heads that were relabeled at least 3 times over th course of the spring and summer before they finally disappeared. read more

Yeah, the meat section here is a lil' susspeck. A previous review by Aisha M. warns of the possible freshness foul, and I would heed it. Seafood, though, is fairly priced and you can just eye-ball it for freshiocity. Now on to the positives! Bestway is largely a Latin market, with ingredients for everything from tortillas to pupusas (more on this later). You may need to need to brush up on your espanol if you choose to interact with the staff for more than 10 seconds. But it also has Asian owners, so you can see that represented in such vegetables as... oh crap, i don't really know any Asian veggies. Oh wait, like eggplants and cilantro and the skinny Vietnamese chili looking things. Even more important are the different Asian condiments/sauces available here, like the srirachi mouth destroying chili sauce, delicious Silver Swan soy sauce (from the Philippines, woot woot!) and other stuff. A friend of mine from Cali was really interested in going to shop with me here when I told her that there are taco and pupusas trucks outside of the store. This pleased her tremendously for some reason. Mobile taco dispensing units outside the store--nice touch, eh? They could clean up a little bit more though. Happy thanksgiving! No not really - this supermarket will rip you off and then act like they didnt do anything. I went to pick-up a few veggies and one of the items was not priced correctly. Instead of honoring the price tbat was on the card the cashier charged me by the pound. Then to add insult to injury the cashier acted like i didnt know the difference between collards and spinach. Dont get me wrong tbey have beautiful veggies but when you price an item - honor that price. Will i still shop here?- probably, but lesson learned take pics of all signs. Store does not "rip customers off" as stated in a previous review. Bestway will honor a price If they've made a mistake and product scanned a different price AS LONG AS it's for the same exact item as listed on sign or label. If a label is moved due to children running their fingers along aisles- store has no control and will NOT honor the price. read more

I love Bestway! The spices & produce are so inexpensive & great quality. I grew up in California & still can't bring myself to pay most East Coast market's prices for produce but I can get avocados & mangos at Bestway for almost as cheap as in California. I don't know how they do it! read more

I often shop here mid day when the store is not crowded. Very clean store and a good line of products, but the customer service SUCKS! Last week several employees looked me in the eye and did not speak. This doesn't include the cashier who didn't say anything during my checkout so I spoke and she mumbled something.
