Lovely winemakers with a passion for wine, Lime Berry will delight sweet wine lovers but will leave…read moredry drinkers underwhelmed. Right off the bat - this place is closing at the end of the year, as the very engaging and wonderful owners sold their winery/vineyard. So if you want their wines you better get them before the end of the year. The winery is hosted in a small barn on the property with plenty of outdoor seating. They make about sixteen wines and seem to favor making sweeter wines. The wine tasting was a very reasonable $3 a person and is guided as either a dry tasting or a sweet tasting. I'm not a fan of sweet so I tried the dry listing, and overall found them fairly average. To be fair, they were out of two dry wines, the Chardonnay and Dry Riesling, so maybe those were the better wines to taste. The Dry Vidal Blanc lacked any complexity in taste and the Semi Dry Vidal Blanc is more sweet than dry. I purchased the Heart of the Lake because of the interesting story behind the one grape which is brand new and unnamed after being developed at nearby Cornell University (this is the only winery that makes wine out of it). The dry reds weren't too much better - boring wines without any sort of boldness, they both tasted flat with just a hint of possibly developing complexity. So yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the wines here at Lime Berry, and I'm a little confused with all the overwhelmingly positive Yelp and TripAdvisor reviews. It makes me wonder if I missed out on some of the good dry wines or that this winery's strength lies in their sweeter wines. Whatever the case, go for the sweet wines but skip if you want dry.

We purchased 3 items, but once we got home in Tampa, we realized the finish on the Lake Canandaigua Lazy Susan was damaged, under where (I think) the original price tag was but I can't be sure since it was removed and wrapped for us. It's still a beautiful piece and we are definitely going to keep it on display, and of course use it. However it's a disappointment as we purchased this as a memento, and it wasn't inexpensive. We know none of our guests would be rude enough to comment on it as the piece is very unique.

We came here to see Peter Pincus' ceramics show. The way they had the place laid out was ideal for perusing and each piece was better than the next. They get a cool mix of artists in this space so it's worth a stop if you're in the area or on your way back to Rochester following a few winery stops. They also have space upstairs, which features smaller pieces - lots of drawings and paintings hanging on the walls. On the first floor they have a very small store with some random supplies, books, knick knacks and gifts made by local artists including some jewelry on display. Whether or not this is something they do, it's a cool space for an event. I think they plan to host classes in the future which would be a nice addition.

I have been to 3 or 4 exhibits here in the past year (photography, watercolor, ceramics), and have been wowed by every one. They showcase a great variety of mediums, and there are usually multiple exhibits on display at a time, upstairs and down. They also have an artist in residence, and on our latest visit, we were able to meet him and get a first-hand introduction to his present project, which was really fascinating. I love to visit the gallery as part of an afternoon outing. Usually we end up spending an hour or so in the gallery appreciating all the exhibits, then we go across the street to Warfield's for lunch or dinner. Warfield's has great food, a focus on local beer and wine, and a changing, seasonal menu. It's a great way to spend an afternoon. The current exhibit featured in the downstairs gallery is of alternative photography and is definitely a must-see. As a photographer who practices several alternative styles (wet plate collodion, kallitypes, palladium printing, cyanotypes, tin types, etc) I was blown away. The subject matter, size of the pieces, different styles from photo gravure to cyanotypes to tin types, all of it is amazing. And coming up on April 1st, one of the featured artists (tin type master and alternative photography innovator John Coffer!) will have a free workshop, which is by reservation - so go see the show and sign up!

Lillian Taylor and the Bully Hill family make this is a personal experience offering the finest of menu choices (many from local harvest when possible) to the extensive wine offerings bottled on premise. The Bully Hill wine shop offers tastings, and purchases from the grapes harvested from their vineyards. This is an experience that you should not miss, it's personal and inviting and local. Today I enjoyed one of their house specials- Strawberry Basil Chicken Salad. The chicken salad was prepared with large chunks of white meat chicken on a bed of greens with a fresh, buttery croissant. Simply divine! Our usual hostess greeted us warmly and showed us to our table with the awesome lake view. While you order at the front counter, servers deliver your food table side. The waiters on the floor are very attentive to check in and fill beverages. While I enjoyed ice tea on this warm day there is a full list of wines and specialty cocktails available. I had a wonderful time talking with the two artists of this shop, and I would definitely return the next time I'm in Penn Yan. From needle-felting, handmade ceramic jewelry, hand-painted Adirondack chairs, and beautiful mosaics, this was a lovely visit. I left feeling quite pleased, and stole off with some of Macy's loveliest earrings. Crissy and Macy, the owners, were a wonderful pair to get to know, and it was a treat watching them in action. I'm going to be commissioning Crissy for a needle felted hummingbird, so I will update with that photo later! If you're debating the visit, it is for sure worth your while. Crissy and Macy are very friendly and laid back, you don't feel any sort of pressure to buy, and its worth a stop just to see the artwork!

My friend and I went for a session at Kelly's place back in November and I honestly needed this! I…read morewas sad the ceramics studio in Ithaca had closed due to the pandemic but Kelly was gracious enough to open her home for a session. There are two wheels and she guided my friend and I amidst great conversation. The space is small and cozy but enough to be distanced while working (we all wore masks). She chooses the glaze on her own and I loved my items when I picked them up. Kelly is a very sweet person and I thoroughly enjoyed the session + her company :)

She's incredibly talented and the quality of the products she makes is out of this world. You can tell how passionate she is by the products she sells, and there's just something special about drinking coffee, tea, or hot chocolate out of a handmade mug. (I highly recommend her wine cups, too!)
