Then this week he put a 5' picket fence to each side of the tall fence to meet Gwinnett county code and to protect our dogs since we just put a pool in. I needed to replace our old & sagging 20 something year old fence and got quotes from five fence companies to do the work. Some were too high and some wanted me to buy all the materials up front which I didn't like. When Michael Thomas with Better Decks & Fences came out to measure for a quote I liked his style, just straight up & no BS. He gave me a fair price & I felt confident his company would do a good job. After I gave the go ahead they wasted no time, his super hard working crew completing the job in a day & a half. They cut through 2 of my buried drainage lines and mentioned nothing to me. I got suspicious with all the pieces of plastic pipe in the pile they threw in my woods and then the water in my garage confirmed it. I wish I still had the picture I had taken of how they connected the fence to my house. 2 of the bars were connected to a bracket by 1 screw 1/2 hanging off a piece of my cedar siding and the bottom bar wasn't connected at all. He said because it was concrete he couldn't connect it. After a bunch of back and forth and pictures sent to the company he magically appeared with tapcons (cement screws). Just pure sloppy and lazy. They also created this "nook" at the end of the run against my neighbors fence. I didn't say anything at the time even though it was painfully obvious it went onto my neighbors property as there is literally a stake in the ground with a pink flag on it 3 feet away and it looked totally ridiculous. I didn't think I'd have to baby sit these guys but you do. I reached out to see what it would take to right the situation and they blew me off over and over. I ended up doing it myself. Sad part is I thought I had a really good rapport with Mike but man he treated me like I didn't exist after he got paid. Angie picks up the phone and is very good at sounding like she cares but I've come to learn it's an act. You can only tell someone you'll get back to them so many times before it becomes obvious you couldn't care less. With a crew that does slop work, an owner that doesn't know how to treat the people that pay his bills, and a receptionist that will lie to you repeatedly, I can say with confidence it would be impossible to do worse going with someone else... read more

Great experience from the initial quote to the final completion. All employees from Angie that takes the calls, Mike the owner, and the gentlemen that were on site to build the fence were extremely personable and professional. The quote was much more reasonable than other quotes I received, and the end result of the fence far exceeded my expectations. We had a little extra material left, and Mike agreed to use it to build a cover for our trash can. In a day where many contractors are flaky and dishonest, these folks were a breath of fresh air. Looking at the reviews we assumed we would get amazing service and quality. BOY WERE WE WRONG! We were told be Katie that workers would be out between 8-9am to begin work. We finally called at 9:15am to find out where they were, only to be told that an EMAIL had been sent at 8:36am to inform us they wouldn't arrive till 11am. Why weren't notified by phone call is a mystery, they would have no issue calling us later about payment. Workers finally arrived closer to 12pm with Mike. Mike proceeded to talk to someone else on his phone while having my husband explain what we wanted and where. Mike did not measure (and later admitted to his own guys) and just spray painted wherever he thought was ok. He then left his workers alone at our house. None of these workers spoke English so when my husband went out and saw they were putting up posts in the spray painted areas that were not where we wanted, he called Mike. Mike was impatient on the phone and instead of taking care of the issue, told my husband to go tell the workers. Of course, him not speaking Spanish, and them not speaking English made for a difficult time. Eventually, after talking to Mike once again later, 2 guys came out who said they worked for Mike. My husband showed them what he wanted and how what was being built wasn't correct. They agreed and told him that Mike had called them saying he had "f%!*ed up" and had not measured and needed them to come out and help fix it. My husband felt bad for the workers and asked for them to only move 2 of the poles so they would be flush with the other fence. They only moved one leaving us with a fence that bows out on either side and is not straight. He went out later to discover that they did not bring the fence to the house on one side, but did on the other. Leaving us a nice gap in our fence. They also used 2 small boards instead of a full board, creating an un-uniform look. My husband called Mike once I got home to explain our displeasure but continued to cut my husband off, bullying him, asking him "are you happy?". We kept saying no and to explain that we were not but continued to get cut off with that same question till my husband answered yes. Mike then hung up. We then waited for Monday to explain our displeasure to Katie on our fence, but weren't together to return the call. The next say my husband called in to pay and was never once asked how we liked the fence or service. I would NEVER recommend Better Decks & Fences to anyone. This was poor and unprofessional service and crap quality. My husband should have been told to tell the workers what to do, Mike should have measured and done his job correctly in the beginning. The specialist came to our house and took the measurements. So, it's been 2,5 weeks, and we haven't heard from them yet. I called them a week ago and was promised to be informed about what had happened, but they never called me back. It's either customer service that sucks or something really happened, but I do not have a clue, so it's kind of weird. Bad experience. read more

Couldn't say enough great things about this company. We had our decks done by another company and WISHED we would have used Better Decks and Fences!! They fenced our huge backyard PERFECTLY!!! Over 650 feet of fencing was done in about 3 days. First day was taking down our old fence 2nd day was posts 3rd was finishing. It looks perfect!! Not rushed, the workers were exceptionally nice, when they said they'd be at your house working they would, no trash was left in the yard... I mean our whole experience was perfect. I had a great experience with the team at Better Decks and Fences. We have a beautiful fence that should last for many years. I got a few estimates and they came in a little less than the other guys. Mike was very responsive. The only reason I am giving a 4 and not 5 was on the first day of install I was supposed to meet a foreman that never showed and I had to go to work. Better Decks and Fences is a first class operation. Their price is right in the middle, but their quality and customer service was excellent. My fence job had a few complications and a couple kinds of fencing, but Michael was more than happy to do exactly what I wanted, even though I made changes as they were building the fence (swapped some 4x4's with 6x6's). These guys are true pros and are easy to talk to and work with. The fences look great and the gates don't sag. I am very pleased and plan to have them back to install another 130' of fencing. Best of all, they do their best to stay on top of their backlog so your installation will be complete sooner than most companies will return your call. Very happy customer. Mike promised a professional job and it only took him and his crew to build the fence twice to finally get a fence built. I'm not sure I would use the word professional with this company. The price was pretty good. However, the company lacked the ability to pay attention to detail. They were building the fence on someone else's property (fence was torn down and had to be rebuilt) and the 2 by 4's they cut "on the post" were just barely nailed onto the 4 by 4 that was just placed in the cement. So, they did come back to fix the problems (somewhat). However, I wouldn't say I'm satisfied with their skills. They can do a good job, you just have to watch them and know where your property lines are. Don't guess b/c you are responsible. I got a survey prior to any work being done. My neighbor didn't and it cost him extra. read more
