    Thee breakfast!

Cool retro vibe. Pork belly bacon was great and not overly indulgent. Good breakfast.

Upon arrival, there was a wait list. We placed our name on the list to receive a text/call. The wait was less than 10 minutes. I think that was awesome for it to be during brunch hours on a Sunday without a reservation. They do have a buffet option upstairs with a mix of breakfast but also soul food lunch options. I said I will most definitely return to try it! The establishment used to be a hotel but is now renovated into a restaurant. I love the glass front kitchen window, to see how the chefs are showing their phenomenal skills. The seating is somewhat close on the lower level, similar to an old school diner. However, we opted for the bottom level seating to dine from the menu. Even though our server was new, she made sure she answered any questions we had about food selections to ensure excellent service. The food was delicious and seasoned to perfection. I was sort of nervous at first with the peppers for the waffles, so I requested it on the side. However, I tried it once it arrived and I wasn't disappointed. It was odd but with the eccentric spin, it added a new texture from the every day "chicken and waffles." The potatoes were seasoned to perfection and cooked enough to give a little crispness. My friend said thr French toast were buttery and tasty.

I found this gem through Door Dash and I have never been disappointed. Today I tried their chicken and waffles and it was delicious! I've also have had the catfish and french toast! Definitely a diamond in the rough!!

Wonderful food and a wonderful experience! The restaurant is very small, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm! The people who work there are so nice! They greet you with a smile at the door and you never stop being appreciated. My wife and I got Thee Breakfast. I got the pork belly, early potatoes, scrambled eggs, and spicy honey biscuit. She got the same thing with turkey sausage. It was amazing. The biscuit itself could be a meal. The eggs were tasty, the potatoes were seasoned to perfection, and the pork belly hit the spot. Our server, Deidre (if I spelled it right), was sweet, prompt, and friendly. She even complimented my wife's eyebrows the moment she greeted us. My wife just had them done the day before which really made her feel good. We can't wait to come back. Historic location, but the food and the people make it all worthwhile.

I really enjoyed my experience at Hen & Egg, overall the service was great our waitress was very attentive and the food tasted like an elevated home cooked breakfast. My only complaint would be the food had a bit of a burnt grill after taste so I would keep an eye on that in the kitchen but even with that I would come back again! Rate: 8.5/10

Walked here from the Folk Festival, and it was worth it! I had THEE breakfast with port belly, grits, soft scramble, and a biscuit. My sister enjoyed to chicken and waffles with sweet peppers and blueberries. The food was great and the waitresses were very nice. Very calm vibes while we dined. They have a buffet that we are coming back to try.

Shrimp and Grits. This was after I ate part of it. It was full of shrimp!

Overall Rating: (4.5/5)So close to perfection. As someone who's constantly recommending Elvie's to everyone, here's my one small critique: If the Duck Fat Fries aren't available as the side with the Steak Frites, I'd love the option to substitute them--or, at the very least, not be charged extra for a side of garlic aioli to enjoy with the fries. For an entrée that's already on the pricier side ($$$$), that little touch would go a long way. That said, thank you for now accepting brunch reservations, keeping Happy Hour alive, and consistently delivering exceptional service and outstanding food. Those are the reasons Elvie's remains one of my favorite restaurants in the city. We'll definitely be back!

Parking was tight and hard to to manuever but they did have a cart available for rooms that are further away - partially broken. 2. In downtown area, kind of dingy and run down - but somewhat charming w many old craftsman homes around. 3. Could have used some hanging baskets and annuals for more color and charm - would help brighten the mood of the run down area of town - 4. And wish theyd answer the phones. We left messages almost everytime we called (they were good about calling back). This leaves one feeling disconnected from a warm hospitable experience.

This review is strictly based on my Shrimp Po-Boy which had the worst fried shrimp I've ever experienced. It was cooked beyond belief and felt like chewing rubber. Breading was probably tasty had the order been properly cooked but could not tell. I had my wife taste a piece, she confirmed my opinion. Bread was buttered and grilled but did not have the feel of a real po-boy bun as if it were on the old side which is strange as the place is a bakery. I don't know what dressing was used, tasted like plain mayo. This is a strong do-not-ever-order recommendation. Fries were good, probably cut fresh. If I ate in, the order would be sent back to the kitchen. My replacement would likely have been better but QC on the takeout was lacking. I understand it's a popular spot in Jackson and was certainly full when I picked up the order. My meal, sadly, was quite forgettable. Other meals that were part of the order seemed OK but, in my eyes, uninspired. Edit: Heard from the manager with with an apology and offer to make up for the issue to my local relatives since I'm only a visitor to the area. I'm convinced that this was a one-off issue and greatly appreciate the manager reaching out. I'll give them another try on my next visit and will update things accordingly.

We started eating here probably 30 years ago when it was the OG. Mike always got the crawfish enchiladas and I got the habanero cream sauce pasta with grilled shrimp. He got fried shrimp tonight. The shrimp were jumbo and fried perfect. The "depot" fries are frozen crinkle cut. He subbed the Mac and cheese for the okra. It's more of a less sauce old fashioned Mac and cheese. I got my old habanero cream sauce pasta. It was served in the tiniest of bowls but the amount of food was good. Why not serve it in a normal sized dish? I would rather have the 4 jumbo shrimp they used to serve back in the day rather than the smallish medium shrimp. The sauce was thicker than I prefer but flavor was decent. I'll try something different next time. The cocktails were delicious. Again, the service and speed of things was incredible for a party of 17. My biggest negative was the music is ridiculously loud. Serving food to 17 people with that music was diabolical and we could not even visit. The group was great but the volume needs to be turned down. Def recommend for a large group but be prepared for music that is concert volume.

The shrimp and crab ceviche was probably a 8/10 ( could've been a 9/10 but it had cucumbers in it). It had a tad bit too much lime juice or lime taste. The shrimp and crab dip was delicious! 9/10. That was delicious. Also got the lobster and crawfish dip ok and one can never go wrong with calamari which was also good. For dinner, I had the salmon and grits and kale. It was ok because not quite what I was expecting - I was expecting spicy and it was too sweet for me but might be my fault for not fully reading the description and being focused on the Cajun seared aspect of it. It was still good though. Nothing superb but filling and loved the crunchy kale on top. Really liked that they were open on a Monday and they were fast. At one point, too fast because one of my co- diner's dinner came too soon while still eating their salad. For dessert, we got the cinnamon roll cheesecake and shared it. I only had one bite because it was too rich for me but it was very tasty and good. Unfortunately, we didn't get the oysters which is THE item to get here but it was otherwise a good visit.
