This place may not be huge, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in flavor and charm. There are a handful of tables that comfortably seat 2-4 people, a row of individual counter stools, and one larger table that can fit a group of six. Parking is easy and free in the lot right next to the restaurant, which is always a plus. I also absolutely love their retro-style motor lodge sign -- it sets the tone before you even walk in. Chef Wallace truly knocked it out of the park with the Nesters Fried Egg and Chicken dish. Paired with a side of cheesy grits, it turned into one of the most flavorful and texturally satisfying breakfasts I've had in a long time. The dish features crispy fried chicken, soft-centered eggs, jalapeños, fresh herbs, sunflower seed dukkah, shallots, toasted pepper, and a beet remoulade that ties everything together. The batter on both the chicken and the eggs was cooked perfectly -- crisp without being hard, and tender without being underdone. Dip it into the bright pink beet remoulade and it's a match made in heaven. The sunflower seed dukkah added a subtle crunch that elevated the entire plate without overpowering it. I was fully expecting the jalapeños to bring serious heat, but they were marinated in something slightly sweet, which completely caught me off guard in the best way possible. Every bite had balance, contrast, and depth. I honestly could not get enough. If you're in Jackson, this is a must-eat dish. Don't debate it, don't overthink it -- just order it. The service was also very good, attentive without being intrusive, and rounded out an already fantastic experience. Upon arrival, there was a wait list. We placed our name on the list to receive a text/call. The wait was less than 10 minutes. I think that was awesome for it to be during brunch hours on a Sunday without a reservation. They do have a buffet option upstairs with a mix of breakfast but also soul food lunch options. I said I will most definitely return to try it! The establishment used to be a hotel but is now renovated into a restaurant. I love the glass front kitchen window, to see how the chefs are showing their phenomenal skills. The seating is somewhat close on the lower level, similar to an old school diner. However, we opted for the bottom level seating to dine from the menu. Even though our server was new, she made sure she answered any questions we had about food selections to ensure excellent service. The food was delicious and seasoned to perfection. I was sort of nervous at first with the peppers for the waffles, so I requested it on the side. However, I tried it once it arrived and I wasn't disappointed. It was odd but with the eccentric spin, it added a new texture from the every day "chicken and waffles." The potatoes were seasoned to perfection and cooked enough to give a little crispness. Wonderful food and a wonderful experience! The restaurant is very small, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm! The people who work there are so nice! They greet you with a smile at the door and you never stop being appreciated. My wife and I got Thee Breakfast. I got the pork belly, early potatoes, scrambled eggs, and spicy honey biscuit. She got the same thing with turkey sausage. It was amazing. The biscuit itself could be a meal. The eggs were tasty, the potatoes were seasoned to perfection, and the pork belly hit the spot. Our server, Deidre (if I spelled it right), was sweet, prompt, and friendly. She even complimented my wife's eyebrows the moment she greeted us. My wife just had them done the day before which really made her feel good. We can't wait to come back. Historic location, but the food and the people make it all worthwhile. read more

It's was 10 out of 10. Food is great, service is great, and it's clean and nice on the inside.

We stopped by a couple Sundays ago; coffee is delicious, breakfast was great, and the customer service is top notch!

I really enjoyed my experience at Hen & Egg, overall the service was great our waitress was very attentive and the food tasted like an elevated home cooked breakfast. My only complaint would be the food had a bit of a burnt grill after taste so I would keep an eye on that in the kitchen but even with that I would come back again! Rate: 8.5/10 read more

I wanted to be able to give this establishment a better review. It's nice and clean, very great service. The food however was a let down for me. I had the fried chicken. I was either re-fried or fried too long because it was burnt on the edges. I kept the sides from the menu, the field peas and ham hock fried rice. They were both disappointing. Flavorless. I don't mean not salty, just no real flavor. My husband enjoyed the shrimp and grits. read more

The food is pretty bland. This is the same food he served at Hope. I was hoping it got better. This is one place I would never recommend nor revisit. The food was cold, stiff, and unbearable to eat. The service was subpar, The ambiance was drab. I even purchased his seasonings and they were pretty bad also. I wanted to support but the awfulness of the food makes it so hard. I heard bad reviews from the museum location, the catering at Hope, and now this location. Please save your money and go to Another Broken Egg or even Waffle House. This isn't worth your money. I've always enjoyed Chef Nick's restaurants through the decades. My hopes were high. I got the chicken and waffle. My friend got Thee Breakfast. Chicken and waffle had potential. Chicken breast was fried great. Good crunchiness. The waffle was an eggo waffle, crumbly texture. Almost like a wheat bread. The chantilly cream and fresh fruit would've been enough sweetness but the blueberries inside the waffle were overpowered by the sugar crystals and syrup drowning the waffle. I believe it's a bad idea for the cook to put syrup on the waffle because people like different amounts of syrup and this had too much. My friend said Thee Breakfast had a good portion size and presentation. Just overly seasoned. I tasted his potatoes, and they were just potatoes. The eggs were good. Lots of stringy, melty cheese. The grits only come with cheese on them. The toast was really delicious and crispy throughout. The fresh pressed juice was DELISH. We got the red one. Juicy and refreshing. I want this place to stay, because it's definitely a cute, small, downtown spot. I'll go back in a few months, and hope to try better menu items to update my review. read more

My family and I visited this restaurant for Mother's Day brunch. The staff was beyond friendly and frequently checked on guests. The atmosphere of the buffet area felt like a family gathering; very cozy and welcoming setting. We didn't feel rushed as we talked and enjoyed each other's company while eating. Back to the food! The selection was almost perfect...would have loved the addition of waffles or pancakes and some sort of sausage or breakfast chicken filets. Bacon was the only "breakfast" meat. And it was delicious by the way. The hashbrown casserole was chef's kiss!! The food wasn't cold either!! They had an omelet station! Everything was a 10/10. Today was my first time having lunch at H&E. I usually do the Sunday brunch which is always wonderful. But today, I was totally disappointed with lunch. I ordered the smoked wings, cabbage and cornbread. The wings were burnt, cabbage wasn't the usual delicious fried cabbage and cornbread muffins were gummy.
