Visited for a second season in a row on our first night in town and it did not disappoint. Having a little wait to secure a table in the main dining room enabled us to more experience their lounge. A large homely room with fireplace to have drinks or desert with the in-house DJ spinning his tunes behind us. I would suggest adding in time to sit and have a drink before dining - it will add to your enjoyment of the evening. The main dining room has that feel of being a place to see and be seen - New Yorkers will gravitate here in abundance. The chef has a storied career having worked at Guy Savoie before joining Daniel Boulud at Danielle in New York before heading to Venezuela and the St. Barths. Chef saw Aspen as a logical move as his customers in the Caribbean were always discussing going to, coming from or when they were next heading to Aspen - so what not ?! Food is very tasty and in the environment very conducive to a good time. I do however think the mixology program could be a little stronger - a fancy glass is great presentation though the content is the key ! read more

This over rated establishment has terrible service & sits on top of some stores where the restaurant barely fits & the ambiance is in a strip mall. It looks like they got discount furniture & a discounted rude staff. They have the French attitude like we don't like you & you are lucky to be here so if you don't like it, go elsewhere. They really don't care about there customers & the attitudes show. The food, it depends on the day, it has a wide range from very good to very bad. There is no consistency w/there food. I would skip this place & find a more soothing, welcoming & consistently good place such as Steakhouse 316, Element 45 (amazing ambiance), Casa de Angelo (amazing place) or Cache Cache where you can find better food!! read more

I've been coming here for years, after tonight I will never be back. We ordered 2 fish entrees, 1 being $78 (Chilean seabass) and the bass with shrimp ($61). When it was brought to the table I asked the waiter why is this portion so small. He said for the bass it's because it comes with shrimp (2 tiny shrimp) and literally the smallest piece of bass, 2 bites at most. The seabass for $78 he didn't even comment on, this was maybe 1/4 LB at most. No one came by to ask how our meal was. The bass was extremely over cooked. We told the waiter and manager that it was over cooked and portions were way smaller than in the past. They removed the $61 bass/shrimp entree from the bill. Very surprised they didn't comp this meal (excluding the 2 drinks we had). Never will be coming back, such a shame this was one of my favorites. read more

This used to be a great place. Things have changed. After making a reservation 30 days ahead, 14 days later the restaurant called and said they were adding a charge of $150 per person minimum (so it would have been a $600 minimum charge for our party of 4). Instead of telling us this when we made a reservation, they waited 2 weeks until all other reservation options were unavailable in aspen over the Christmas break, then they called and told us about how much we would be required to spend. Then, when I talked to the lady responsible for telling people about this bad late policy, I was frustrated with her and she cancelled my reservation after I asked to speak to a manger. Forced spend is very bad idea. Allow optional generosity. I have no problem making a donation to people who are struggling during the pandemic, including restaurants asking for help from their patrons. But the way they handled this makes me think poorly of this place and their management. I won't be returning, neither will my aspen friends, and that's a shame, because we used to like it there. News spreads fast in aspen. We don't support bad people. read more

We had our first of several dinners in Aspen here last night. I will say I thought the ambience and service were impeccable. The wine list was a bit precious, but we understand the costs of running Aspen's restaurants are precious too. The cocktails were perfect. The food was for me delicious. My hubby was two for two in disappointing choices. I had the burrata and duck. So good. Excellent flavors. He had ...well, he cannot remember now. I know he had the elk carpaccio, which was disappointing. The thin slices of elk meat were wrapped around a medley of some vegetables and marinated. Everything overpowered and covered the elk. He had a beef entree which he ate but was not complementary of. Yelp hasn't published my edits of this review. Not sure we'll be back, though the location and service were excellent. read more

fun vibe, younger crowd and nice atmosphere. the patio with the clear tenting and lights was pretty. food was very average for the price. I didn't think it was possible to have too much black truffle but the $160 black truffle risotto proved me wrong, it was so overpowering and rich I felt like I was going to vomit after just a few bites. We made reservations and this place welcomed us very nicely. Every bit of the staff was absolutely wonderful and on point. We sat outside with the enclosed patio during Jan weather. the heaters were great. Everything we ordered was recommended by the waiter. Of course the lamb was amazing as they are known for. The pricing was expected being an upscale, super amazing environment, but not ridiculous like BOSQ. The portions were bigger and more filling. We held our wedding reception dinner at Betulas for over 100 people. From day one Laurent and his team did everything right. We had a great plan going into the dinner and the entire staff as always did an outstanding job. People loved the food and wine choices and the service from the wait staff to the team behind the bar was attentive and excellent. Music provided by Savy Fontana kept people on the dance floor and rocking until after midnight. This was just another reason why on our trips to Aspen we always reserve at least one night for dinner at Betula. I've been in and out of Aspen for 2 1/2 years and recently just moved here. Although I had heard about Betula over my time here, I finally got to experience it this past Fall. Great experience overall. However, our server was super underwhelming. Anniversary dinner -- we tried ordering appetizers / multiple plates to share (so we could taste as much as possible), but were told by our server: "I have to take your entire order all at once b/c I need to give the kitchen a heads up of what's coming." In response to us asking if we could just order 3-4 things to see if we'd still be hungry for more, our server said "it depends on the other reservations." We were only there for 45-50 mins in total. A quick turn at an expensive restaurant. As a former server, all of these comments resonated as kinda ridiculous. I mean, as a server/waitstaff/kitchen, do what you have to do on the backend to maintain flow, but to openly communicate & restrict how customers order is simply asinine and resonated as rude, ESPECIALLY considering the price point here ($$$$). I can only describe this communication as "rookie" + awkward. We felt rushed, which killed the experience a bit. Also, instead of being prompted/sold a 2nd round of drinks, we had to ask her when she finally came back around. The bread server + dish deliverers were far more attentive and accommodating than our primary server -- she just didn't seem present at all. Finally, after ordering 3-4 shared dishes, we were still hungry and ordered the half chicken entree to share -- it came out very quick and was cold (seemed to be prepared earlier and not reheated properly). That said, all the food was really delicious. Fun and upbeat atmosphere in Aspen! The appetizers were well thought out and prepared. We had the ceviche and peach salad. Both fresh and bright. The Chilean Sea Bass was popular at our table. One of the best seafood dishes I've ever had. Fresh and moist. The wine perfectly paired. Deserts we decadent with the Soufflé and fresh peach desserts that were amazing! Ate here while on a honeymoon. Made the reservation about 2 weeks in advance (for a Friday night). We were seated at a perfect corner table outside. The hostess and waitstaff were friendly and accommodating. The manager stopped by our table to greet us, which was nice. The food was very good. There were some items I am not used to seeing on menus here in Colorado - grilled octopus for example, and Soufflé for dessert! We read this restaurant's reviews and went in with high expectations. The restaurant was crowded, loud and a little stuffy. It had white table cloths, which I appreciate immensely, but other than that the experience was miserable. The server was borderline rude, uninterested and constantly rushed us, despite there not being any seating after us. We wanted to order appetizers first and then decide on dinner but the server said this would not suit her and that she would only take a complete order. Plates and glasses were taken off the table with food and wine still in them. We did not even start eating the amuse bouche before the server removed the plate. The food was not good. Mushroom soup was a flavorless brown mush, salmon was bland and the black angus pecancha was uneatable. We left 80% of our food on the plates. No one ever asked if the food was ok or if we need anything else. Bread service was sparse - we were really counting in it after the disastrous entrees as we came in pretty hungry. I do have to say that the grand matinee soufflé was good. I really don't understand how this restaurant has 4.5 stars (yelp and open table). This is a mediocre restaurant, at best, with uneatable food that poses as fine dining. A waste time and money.! read more

This restaurant should be avoided unless you can't get a reservation somewhere else. Order carefully and ask if the dish you are ordering is salty or fatty. Scallops (salt) and lomo saltado (fatty cheap meat) are nearly inedible. On a more positive note, the salmon wasn't bad. read more
