The view was beautiful, but the atmosphere was not lively at all and definitely not the vibe we were looking for, so we politely asked to cancel our reservation and chose to dine elsewhere. Despite the place being nearly empty, they charged me a $100 cancellation fee for canceling within 24 hours. I called afterward hoping they might reconsider given the circumstances, but the manager was shockingly rude and had no interest in resolving the issue or showing any level of customer care. It's not as if we took a table away from paying customers in a packed restaurant. Charging that kind of fee when the restaurant was empty is one thing, but the dismissive and hostile attitude made it far worse. Aspen is known for warm hospitality, and everyone else we encountered was wonderful. Unfortunately, this was the worst customer service experience I had there. I would strongly recommend spending your money somewhere that values its guests. read more

Staying here at the hotel seemed a good choice after a long drive to Aspen. The resort is up and away from the town itself and was very peaceful. The dining room is spacious letting you look out large floor to ceiling surrounding windows to have an amazing view of mountains and the valley. Service was attentive and as there were only a few couples eating at 6 pm, a quiet lovely setting. The menu is focused allowing for excellent preparation without the rush. I had the duck and can say it was an amazing choice and fully deboned. No fighting with getting to the meat. Looking forward to staying at the hotel again and enjoying another marvelous dinner! read more

We visited West End Social during a recent trip to Aspen. Our server was very kind and did her best throughout the evening, but unfortunately the overall experience was inconsistent. The restaurant was fairly empty, yet service was quite slow. I originally ordered the duck, but was told they were out of it. When I asked about substituting the leeks from that dish with my bass, our server checked with the kitchen and came back to explain that they were actually out of the leeks and therefore not serving the duck dish at all. It wasn't a big deal, but it did create some confusion. My bass was good, though not particularly memorable, and the broccolini served with it was cold. My husband's steak, ordered medium, arrived very well done. To their credit, the staff proactively offered to remake it, and the replacement was much better. However, it took quite a while to arrive, and I had finished my meal long before he received his. The most uncomfortable part of the evening was witnessing a manager publicly reprimand a server in the dining room. It was awkward for both guests and staff and definitely affected the atmosphere. The restaurant did offer us a complimentary dessert, which was appreciated, and our server remained gracious throughout the evening. At the end of the meal, we also learned that the credit card system was down and had to provide our card information manually, which was one more unexpected hiccup in an already uneven evening. Overall, there were some positives, particularly our server's professionalism and the restaurant's efforts to make things right, but between the kitchen issues, slow pacing, atmosphere, cold sides, and payment problems, the experience didn't quite live up to our expectations. read more

Headline: Stunning views, but a total dining disaster. The 270-degree mountain views are stunning, but they cannot save this poorly managed restaurant. Our experience was completely unacceptable from start to finish.The venue is old and outdated, which I would happily overlook for great food and service. Unfortunately, we got neither: Massive Food Shortages: They were completely out of halibut, all fish, and chicken. What restaurant runs out of basic proteins? We were told to order immediately before we even ordered our drinks so that we could secure the fish and chicken. It didn't happen. Terrible Service & Timing: We waited a good while to be greeted. Our server, John, poured our champagne into standard wine glasses and never returned to refill them. When entrees finally arrived, five meals were room-temp, and the steak came out 5 minutes after everyone else's. Bugs Indoors: We dined indoors, yet a fly landed straight in our Hamachi Crudo alongside other flying insects. Terrible execution and zero basic hospitality. An incredible experience--the atmosphere was perfect, the food was delicious, and the view was simply stunning.

As it turns out, the best food in Aspen was hiding in plain sight. My partner and I just spent a glorious week at the Aspen Meadows Resort for a conference. When we were not attending related events, we met friends in town for dinners at rather well-known restaurants -- all were just fine. Quite good, even. But not... great. Then, with a bit of luck and a determined snowstorm, we found ourselves having to stay in Aspen for two additional days. Luckily, we were welcomed back at the resort and, hunkering down with the weather, decided to simply stay put and have dinner on property at West End Social. Due to the weather, we practically had the place to ourselves, which was genius, as we were able to spend even more time with our utterly delightful and endlessly competent server, John B. What followed was easily the best meal we had in Aspen. The pâté was insanely delicious, the pork chop was the best my partner has ever had, and the focaccia (the focaccia!), wildly delicious -- crackling at the edges, deeply earthy, and, I suspect, lifted by a whisper of cornmeal. The only tragedy was that we found ourselves unable to cross the finish line to dessert. And so it was that we came back again the next evening. We ordered an entirely different assortment of dishes (save the otherworldly focaccia), and once again -- perfection. My job back in Massachusetts is to write about local food, farms, and chefs, which is to say only that I think about food -- a lot. And so it is that with total confidence and unbridled enthusiasm I can say -- West End Social, with its gorgeous space, exquisite food, and outstanding people who make it all happen -- is a gem. read more

Everything was excellent except for the duck. I've never had bad duck before in my life. This was the first. I still remember it like it was a nightmare. The duck tasted purely of salt. I asked for it to be taken back and made less salty as salt is the only thing I can taste. Unapologetically, I was told my the waitress that it had been brined. If they remake it, it will be the same way. My cholesterol took a hike eating this dish. The chef sent out a weirdly warm pear sweet sauce to mask the saltiness. Don't order the duck. read more

The West End Social is an spectacular Ambiance. Our server was very knowledgeable on both the menu and suggested four great drinks. We started off with the sour dough olive bread with lemon butter and the truffle fries. Just the right amount of seasoning! (Just wish there were ketchup or bbq sauce for the fries) For dinner, we had the waygu beef steak, roast duck, and gnocchi....everything was perfectly seasoned, steak was cooked just right. Food in Aspen is incredibly expensive, and there was a great Monday apres deal that our group, who was staying at the resort for the conference, was eager to take advantage of. $21 for a gourmet burger and a beer between 3-5. Two of us arrived at 445 and were seated first, followed by two families we were with that included 3 small children and a baby. Our initial host, Mitch, was incredibly accommodating. When our new server arrived to take our food order at 455, he was hesitant to give us the deal, but he honored it and also allowed us to order off of the regular dinner menu as well. That was incredibly kind and accommodating. Unfortunately, they could not split the check at the end due to their pos system, which will be a massive headache for us, hence the 1 star removed. While this isn't an ideal place for families, I appreciated their sensitivity and kindness to us. read more
