Lailey Vineyard is modern, chic and rustic as the same time. The tasting room though a little bit small but this means that no bus load of people will be arriving for a tour or tasting? The tasting cost $1/$2 each which I prefer as I have more flexibility in picking the wine that I am interested in sampling. After trying a few, we ended up with a bottle of 2010 Cabernet Franc ($25) which has a really fruity and floral profile. The staff here are quite knowledgeable though can be a little more enthusiastic. The tour which last for 45 minute like a good value $5 which includes 4 tasting, maybe next time.

Very disappointing visit during Sip & Sizzle. Served a cherry cheesecake that tasted like it was bought from a cheap grocery store. Paired wine was average at best. Staff was luke warm and not very engaging.

Service and ambiance were perfect. Very good reds. The wine pourer ( I can't remember his name) was so fun to talk to about their process.

Their small winery and parking lot means you will never see a bus there and the tour is very personal.

We drove up to Niagara-on-the-Lake as I had good things about that area. I asked a local what wineries recommended and was told about Peller. There are about 40 wineries to choose from in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Peller Estates ended up being an excellent one. We drove up to a large estate with fields. Bartender was friendly. We asked about wine tastings. Bartender mentioned how Canada has ice wine, which American wineries don't have. She let us sample it to see if we liked, which we did and opted to just get the ice wine. Wow, that was a delicious white wine! I wish we had that in the US. But in general, much of the US climate is too warm for ice wine. The grapes are out there to freeze solid. Ice wine needs to be picked below 18 F (-8 C). In Maryland where I live, winter can get cold, but it's inconsistent, some years barely any days below 18 F in Baltimore. Ideally, you want multiple days in a row for a more sustained freeze instead of rushing out for the few hours it might get down to 15 F. On the flip side, it can be too cold in northern Minnesota (where it easily gets below 5 F or -15 C often, which is the lower temp limit) or upstate NY. Also, heavy lake effect snow like that often occurs in Buffalo is problematic. It's a specific microclimate of the Niagara peninsula near Lake Ontario, where it gets cold but not extremely cold too often, not many heavy snowfalls. In the US, near Lake Erie is the sweet spot for ice wine in southwest NY, northern PA, & northeastern OH. Also, northern Michigan near Great Lakes as well as the Finger Lakes region of NY. The lakes moderate the temperatures in the winter if winery is positioned south of the lake, but needs to also be in an area not prone to be slammed by heavy Lake Effect snows like Buffalo. We wanted to sit on the outside, but there was a private event being setup. We sat at a nice table inside the beautiful estate. Afterward, we brought our glasses back to the bartender thanking her and saying the ice wine was excellent. She took the glasses back and said here are 2 clean glasses to take with you thanking us for our visit. This was an excellent experience. Highly recommend a visit to Peller Estates!

Food 4/5 Service 3/5…read moreAmbiance 5/5 Food: I came here as a part of a work event. Our company had the whole event space booked. We had a set menu with three courses. Our first course was a green salad with currants. That was delicious actually. I really liked the currants. The next course was a choice of either chicken or squash (not many options!). I had chosen the squash but because of my food allergies they ended up giving me a mushroom dish. I love mushrooms so I didn't mind. That dish was actually quite tasty. The last course was a dessert which was a seasonal crumble with ice cream. They gave me a shaved coconut & berries dish due to my food allergies. The food was okay but my mind wasn't blown. I tried a bit of both the red wine & white wine but didn't like the taste. Then again I'm not much of wine drinker. Service: Some of the servers looked like the would rather be anywhere else than at the event. My server was great though, he was very attentive to me because of my food allergies. However, one of the servers dropped a carafe of boiling hot coffee on the ground. It hit me a bit, the guy next to me got some in his eye & another guy across from us was also hit. I was not happy about that. The server was really apologetic & went to get some ice. Took her forever but she finally found some & gave it to the people who were affected. I smelled like coffee after that. Ambiance: The vineyard is really lovely. We got there just before the sun started setting & it made for some amazing views. The dining hall is nice as well with it's high ceilings & floor to ceiling windows. The group washrooms were clean & pretty also. I'm not sure if I would come here again on my own. My impression of the food & service is tainted by the coffee being spilled on us. They were really apologetic & everything but sometimes first impressions are everything. I'm not often in the Niagara on the Lake area & if I were I wouldn't make a special trip to come here given my past experience here.
