Not a bad place for your boozing needs in downtown Bellevue. I admit I'm a Total Wine fan through and through, and my recent visit to BevMo reminded me of so. While doing errands around the area I needed to pick up a nice bottle of scotch and some Michigan beer for my friends for Christmas. I would've gone to Total Wine if I hadn't been on such a time crunch, so ended up going to BevMo, which is near where I live. The place was super quiet on a Sunday. I was the only customer in there for a bit until someone else visited. Meanwhile, most of the employees were shelving and seemed preoccupied. I wandered around, searching for different gifts, as the items were organized by different categories. After standing around, in what seemed like looking at the same shelf for 10 minutes or so, an employee came by to ask if I needed help. I asked him about the different scotches and he suggested some around my price range. I then asked the same employer for a particular brewery from Michigan and he pointed at all of the options for me, including individual bottles and one that was nearly out of stock, which I ended up buying. Overall, BevMo isn't a bad place for alcohol. But being a Total Wine customer, it just doesn't compare. The selection is not nearly as much and staff didn't seem as interested to help. Plus, Total Wine does tastings on the daily. You can't beat that. read more

The staff are attentive and ready to help. I was just looking around. They didn't have the wine I wanted in particular, it was a kind of Japanese wine, but I got something else to give a try. Definitely cheaper than the one at my usual western grocery store. It was easy to find the sections I was looking for because the place is organized in a way that makes sense to me (I was looking for wine by country). But for my tastes I'll have to stick to asian grocer. I go here when the grocery store's beer selection has me bored (which is usually the case). They have a good selection of beer and they usually have special releases grocery stores don't. It might be more expensive - I don't really know. Lots of people complaining about customer service. I've always had a great experience there. I also heard one guy ask an employee for a recommendation for a good lager - he pointed out the Kona Island Longboard and emphatically said it was great. Having overheard the conversation, I picked one up, too, to give it a try. Anyway, everyone there seems nice and knowledgeable to me. It is worth noting... they WILL card anyone with you (probably not a little kid) - that includes your wife, your teenage kid, etc.. and they have to be 21. So, that person should stay in the car if they don't have their ID. At a different Bevmo, my wife literally had to go outside to the car to get her ID once. It was completely moronic. If I were buying alcohol for some underage person, I sure as hell wouldn't bring them inside with me anyway, so this is a dumb rule in the first place. read more

They almost always overcharge you. They charge more than the displayed prices. For example, yesterday a Newcastle case said $16.99 but rang up as $18.99. The time before that they charges more than the displayed price for both bottles of rum. read more

This is my first yelp review EVER! My experience at BevMo was that great today! Brian helped us pick beer for our upcoming wedding and we cannot thank him enough for all of the advice and help he gave us today. He spent over an hour with us and the entire time he was extremely friendly and fun to work with. The store manager Jeremy was also very knowledgeable and friendly. I love BevMo!! I belong to their club so that I can save money on every purchase. I get their emails. I even go online to see what specials they are running. The only bad thing about BevMo is that there isn't one within an hour's driving distance of my house. That means every time I DO see a BevMo in another town I get all excited and have to make a trip inside. I was working in Seattle for the weekend broadcasting a dance competition and found this BevMo just a couple blocks from my hotel. Because I flew to this event, I wasn't able to BMOB (bring my own (adult) beverage) and didn't want to pay the outrageous prices at the hotel bar. This BevMo was a godsend. Three friendly employees, two girls and one guy, all greeted me as I entered the store. I don't know if it was the beautiful sunny morning, the perky greeting, or the sounds of Build Me Up, Buttercup playing over the sound system but I was immediately in a good mood and couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. One of the girls followed up with "That yellow looks great on you!" She's my new favorite, just saying. I started browsing trying to decide what to purchase. I didn't want to buy anything in a container so large that I'd have to leave it in the hotel room when I checked out, but didn't want to buy those little airplane sized bottles either. While I was browsing the aisles, the guy came over to offer his help with "Ma'am let me know if there is anything I can do for you!" He was so nice, I forgave him for the Ma'am. LIttle hint guys... unless a woman is actually holding hands with a child that looks like her always go for the term Miss rather than Ma'am. We know we're old, you don't need to remind us. I finally settled for a mid-sized bottle of Jack Daniels and figured I could find someone in the ballroom to share it with. When I got up to the register, I didn't have my club card with me, but they were able to look me up in the system using my phone number. When they carded me, they all laughed and said they weren't surprised I was form California, whatever that means. The girl behind the register let me know that they were out of smaller bags and said that the big bags were really big. I asked her what the plan was and she said that there was really no law in Seattle against carrying bottles of unopened liquor down the street. You're not going to believe this, but she totally talked me into walking out of the store holding the bottle of Jack Daniels out in the open. After the first block it didn't even seem weird. I enjoyed my little adventure to this BevMo so far away from home. I come back to Seattle every Easter weekend so I'm sure I'll be repeating this performance again next year. Maybe I'll bring my own bag next time, but I can't say for sure. I like to live life a little on the edge! read more

9 AM on a random Friday. Im in line for free swag (yay) and tastings at the new Bellevue Bevmo. So, why is it awesome? Well, lots of booze for pretty reasonable prices. Plus glassware, cigars, cheese & cracks, tastings, etc. It was a bit of a mad house when I got there since only the first 500 customers got a door prize, but even full of people it was easy enough to navigate. Their beer selection is large -- but I wouldn't say necessarily inspired. A lot of basics and a few star bottles here and there. I was happy to see all my local distillery favorites here though -- Dry Fly, Woodinville, Fremont Mischief, Oola. Hooray for the little guys being represented in a major warehouse sort of store. Free samples of wine and beer were had (Hey Elysian rep, you were kind of rude fyi!). The staff had their hands full, but all of them were friendly, knew where to go, and all had helpful suggestions for anyone who had questions. What makes this even awesomer? It is right by my work, so when I need to grab something quick on a break or when the work day is done I can pop in and out of here super easy. Thanks Bevmo! You guys are swell. read more

Who doesn't love free gift baskets and beer/wine tastings at 9 am on a Work Day? I remember hearing that they were opening today, so Kate S and I skipped out of work to wait in the line to be 2 of the first 500 people in the store. We did it! I used to go to BevMo a lot in college in CA, so I was excited to see them opening so many stores in Western Washington now that our liquor laws are into the 21st century. They have pretty much everything you need: Beer, Wine(some are 2 for 1), liquor, mixers, cheese, crackers, etc. Their prices aren't the best in the area, but they have a really good selection, and are close to my work, so I will definitely be in here for all my specialty alcohol needs. Lots of good deals though if you have their card. They even have Growler fills at this location, and lots of local stuff. I don't think it's as big as Total Wine and More but it is a great one stop shop for all your booze needs(Which I guess is like the old Liquor stores, but open late and on Sundays). read more

I've been here several times now since it's right by my massage place but I prefer Total Wine. When stepping into the store, you feel a bit overwhelmed by the people offering to help you and it continues throughout your time there - almost like they're babysitting you in case you have devious intentions. The prices tend to be ~$2-5 higher on booze than Total Wine and not as large of a selection. They do offer complimentary wine tasting on some days, which I haven't checked out yet. You can also get your growlers filled here but there's no counter for you to hand out while you wait - you stand outside the fridge while they take your growler inside and bring it back filled. I'll be back out of convenience but it's not as fun and relaxed of a shopping atmosphere as Total Wine. read more

I have been talking up BevMo since I moved to Washington in 2008, I do not think my friends could appreciate fully what I was talking about until BevMo *finally* made its way to the PNW. BevMo is fantastic, it not only has every type of alcoholic beverage and mixers one could need, but also all of the accoutrements for your fabulous soiree. This store has everything you need in one place, booze, wine, beer, non alcoholic drinks and snacks. The Bellevue store has tastings, you can check it out on the website. I live very close, so I am excited to walk over and do this one evening! I also noticed a growler station in the store, I am not a beer drinker, but nice to know it is there for future reference. The store also has some great gift baskets and "airplane" size bottles, which I stocked up on for Christmas gifts, they were a hit! The staff at this store is very friendly and the checkout is fast. I needed some help finding a bottle of wine for a gift, I was a little embarrassed since the wine I was looking for was cheap, but hey, that is what she wanted! The wine guy gave me some options of other bottles she might like, which I think is great, I will remember that for when I am looking for myself. I am rarely as adventurous when gift giving! I am giving this four stars instead of five simply because of the size of the store, it was smaller than what I am used to seeing. I don't know how I missed that a BevMo! was right in Bellevue as of about a year ago!! Since moving to WA from CA where BevMo! stores abound, it was rough...especially because we also moved up here before alcohol was in supermarkets too! Things are definitely changing, and I'm glad that BevMo! made its way to Bellevue! This place has a really nice selection and I love the little info tags that describe a lot of the items so you can get an idea about what it will be like before purchasing. The staff is usually well-versed and can be helpful in directing you towards something that could be good as well. My husband has recently started a whisk(e)y and scotch list of different ones he wants to try based on reviews and what he's heard from friends and family. BevMo! is definitely a great spot to look for some of the items that the supermarket doesn't carry. Yes, there are other big liquor stores around now too, but I think there's just something about going to a BevMo! that is reminiscent of living back in CA for me. You can, of course, get a membership and save some $$ and hear about deals -- we may need to restart ours now that we know there's a shop so close!! I am sad to write this, as I have truly loved BevMo and their fantastic deals. Back in July (it is Nov 26), I asked about a specific whiskey, Pappy Van Winkle, while we were stocking up for a party. They said that I should call on Sept 1st when they start their wait-list for the exclusive bourbon. I called the minute the store opened on 9/1/13 and they said I WAS THE FIRST ON THE WAIT-LIST! I was so happy! My husband has been talking about this whiskey for the last 5 years and I was elated to give this to him as his Christmas gift. They said they'd call when the shipment came in in November. Come today, November 26th, I get a call to say that they received only one bottle of Pappy, BUT I was not going to receive it as I was the 5th on the list. I tried explaining that I was the 1st on the wait-list (from Sept 1st), but the nice guy on the phone (who really was nice) just said that I was the 5th on the list and there was nothing he could do. Not only am I bummed about not being able to give this bottle to my husband for Christmas (so sad and disappointed), I am also bummed that I cannot go back to the store that obviously lied to me. Now I will take my business and referrals to "Wine and More" down the street. read more

For the purpose of this review I will be comparing BevMo with the Olympia Total Wine since that is my frame of reference. Compared to TW BevMo is quite a bit smaller and could use better signage on the wine aisles to help find specific wine types. They also could use some staff that aren't at the registers to help you find what you are looking for. I had picked up some ginger ale in their craft soda section that I thought was 3.99 but rang up at 8.99. My eyes are not as good as they were at 20 but BevMo uses a font on their shelving that is not very good. There is also a major upsell at the register to sign up for the BevMo club, did I mention there is a big upsell to sign up? I opted not to since they require a phone number to sign up and I get enough crap on my phone and there is no BevMo within a 45 minute drive of my house. Even after declining to sign up the guy at the register was still asking me again if I wanted to sign up. The lack of good signage, help in the aisles and the extreme upsell of their "club" will make me drive on by BevMo in the future. read more

Went to BevMo! on New Years Eve very happy to still see them open at 9pm. The staff was friendly, the store was clean and well stocked and the prices were decent. The staff is eager to help and was friendly when answering questions, which is much appreciated. I've frequented BevMo! ever since I turned 21. Their stores in the Bay as well as this store are normally stocked really well with all different kinds of liquors, wines and spirits. Hell, I was excited when I heard they were coming up here to WA. HOWEVER, if you are going to require that my companion needs to show their ID even though I am the one purchasing it, then you are on my Shit List. And then to be notified that they card everybody even if they buy soda? C'mon now. I have even bought product from this store multiple times and we were never required to each show our ID's. Supposedly, their company policy dictates that anybody under the age of 50 needs to be carded. The store employees told me that everybody gets carded. So what would you do if a mother or father brought their kid into the store and wanted to make a purchase? So kudos to you Bellevue BevMo! for following your misguided company policies (when the time feels right). Obviously, your legal department got involved and F-ed everything up. I'm going to Total Wine and More as well as Costco from now on. read more

This place frickin rocks. If only we had a place like this in the Midwest. However, it's y thinking they exist due to the REDICULOUS alcohol taxes. A $15 bottle of (insert alcohol here) will pretty much put you back $20-23 based on the mL size & tax %. Each of the girls who were working when I came in were super helpful. I"ve been going to BevMo for years, and I've always been a big fan. Of course, up until this year, that's always been at the BevMo's down in California where I was living. This particular BevMo is adequate. However, I kinda feel bad for them. Why? Well, when you've got a costco-sized wine store (Total Wine and More) less than a mile away that serves as a virtual goliath in the liquor industry, it's gonna be tough for BevMo to compete. BevMo's selection is decent. And if TW&M weren't up the street, I'd say it was great. Mostly I go here for wine. Not because their wine selection is *the best* but because when BevMo throws their 5 cent (or 2 for 1) wine sales, there are some fantastic deals to be found. The staff here was friendly enough, but sadly, they didn't seem all that knowledgeable - at least not the ones who I asked about various wines and wine makers. I have to agree with a couple of the other reviewers on here. BevMo is fine. Mostly at their bigger stores. This particular store is just sorely undersized, and as a result, kinda lacking in the inventory that you'd otherwise hope to find. Hopefully they'll find ways to make up for this here in the future. read more

Its also cozy and easy to navigate. Wine slats toward domestic so a recommendation in this location demographic would be to have more French and Champagne choices. She asked if she could help us find anything and my husband asked about the high-end rum selection, she asked what rums specifically and when he gave a few brands he liked, she interrupted/cut him off and said she was aware they existed..? And said they didn't have them. Super weird. Like... Do you want to maybe suggest something else? And why did you ask if you're going to interrupt mid-sentence? She's either having a bad day or she's really shitty at her job.
