Draeger's had Magic Hat #9, which means that Magic Hat got some sort of West Coast distributor. But Draeger's is expensive, and BevMo is cheap. I stop in to see if they can make Magic Hat appear for me... This is a chain store, right? So I expect to be told no luck. Instead, the manager pulls all sorts of computer magic to see what stores has it and tells me he will order it the next day. So now (this) BevMo has Magic Hat #9 (in the big bottles), because I asked for it. Score! Now I can get it at a cheap enough price I can drink it *all the time*! I suppose with alcohol sales, customers are either really pleased or really frustrated. In my case, I was definitely pleased. I worked with James Higgins, the store wine expert to plan beverage service for my wedding. He provided not only quality and timely feedback and service, both in person and through several emails, but selected some pretty top flite wines/champagne within my budget. The only reason I'm docking a star is because they forgot to figure in soft drinks. My caterer had to run out and get that. read more

Shopped at the new Menlo Park BevMo on it's opening day. Everything was great until I checked out. They wanted to see my ID. OK, I'm being carded. No they didn't just want to see my license, they wanted to scan it. I asked why. They have a policy of scanning licenses for every one under 50. Under 50? They were serious. I explained that I was over that particular age and would happily show, but not give, them my license. Funny. That hadn't happened at any other BevMo. Opening day jitters? Reading the rulebook a little too literally? We'll see. read more

Just had a very disappointing experience with Bevmo. They would not except my boyfriends IL license in the morning, so we came back later that day to buy the specific beer he wanted with my CA license. But by then they were all sold out. The guy at the counter was very pleasant and helpful. As we were about to leave I saw the manager (or I think that is who he was) and decided to mention that I was a bit disappointed with my Bevmo experience so far. I was going to ask whether he would look up when/if they were going to get more of this beer in so I didn't have to make another pointless drive to Menlo Park. Especially since I had to be there with my CA ID. Once I approached him and mentioned that I wanted to tell him that I was disappointed so far and explained that was the second time we had been there that day and we were walking away empty handed again. He then got really defensive and told me that the policy was posted right on the cash register about out of state ID's! His tone was incredibly rude and I was shocked that he was reacting so aggressively. At that point I told him that his tone of voice made me want to walk out of the store and take my business elsewhere. He pointed at the door and said 'go then!' I lived in New York for over 8 years and this is more rude than any customer service experience I had while I was there. I will not be returning. The 2nd star is because it looked like they had a wide selection, and the guy at the counter was nice. My recommendation is to drive the extra mile to Willows Market. I would never buy anything from this store. Why? Because they have the beer in front of their huge greenhouse windows! The beer is in full sun throughout the day, so much so that it becomes warm to the touch. Anyone who knows anything about beer will tell you that light and heat are the two worst things for beer. The same for wine. They obviously don't care about keeping their products in decent conditions. Better to hit K&L, Beltramo's or Willow Market if you want to get some stuff that hasn't been sunbathing. read more

Good selection, but PITA management at this location. Some good wines, usually the good wines sell our really fast, so if you find a bottle you like go back and get more the next day, Beer selection is very good and usually fresh. But if I have the time I go to the Redwood City location - friendlier and better trained staff, and fewer crazy policies like refusing to return printed bevmo club coupons (they don't realize emails can be printed multiple times...) and mandatory swiping and recording of drivers licenses to invade privacy (and i'm well on the wrong side of 40). Seemingly the management enjoys seeing how obnoxious they can be to their customers before they go back to Beltramos. Fortunately, Redwood City BevMo is just a few miles up El Camino. read more

I had a terrible experience at the MP store. I came in on the last evening of their Labor Day sale with a coupon for $10 off. I wanted to buy 2 bottles of a flavored brandy. They only had one. I asked the manager, Nick?, what he could do to help me out. *I suggested a rain check: NO. *I asked if he could have a bottle transferred from another store: NO. BevMo's policy doesn't allow for exchanges between stores to accommodate customers. *I asked if he could give me a discount when they had more in stock: NO. He isn't allowed to give discounts. I asked which nearby stores had that brandy in stock. His initial answer was: NONE. Upon pressing the issue, it turned out that Los Altos had 3 bottles. *I asked if there was a feedback form I could tell BevMo management about this issue: NO. I would have to go online to complain. I told him this was terrible customer service. He said he could be fired for relaying complaints to management. He basically was telling me he had no control over satisfying a customer. I left and bought the bottles at Los Altos, but I'm looking for an alternate discount liquor store. read more

I've shopped at 6 different BevMo stores, and only found one in Danville, that had good customer service. We had to empty out another case of wine, which I thought would bring attention to us, (nope), and load up the case with the brand we wanted. We were not mixing up, same brand, same type of wine, same year, etc. Then load the damn thing from the floor into the cart, along with several other items. Then we're the only people at the check out, wait until, the girl, was done with her ipad, cell phone, before she even noticed. Get a lot of shop lifting here? One would have to wonder, as I don't think they realize when they have customers. read more

This Bevmo has the worst customer service. I was waiting for someone to ring me up for the longest time. I see is 3 employees just restocking shelves and finally one of them comes to ring me up. After ringing me up he leaves while my credit card is charging. Eventually the receipt comes out and still no employee. So I had to raise my voice at him and asked him if i need to reach in a grab it myself??? He comes back and gives it to me but with a look in his face that will make me never go back to that Bevmo! read more

This is where you go if you want to pay a lot more for the same bottles of wine you can find 5 miles down the street for a lot less, at the really big wine store. One example is a bottle of 2013 Faust Cabernet which is $60 at this Bevmo, marked down from $70! (WTH?) At the big store down the street the exact same bottle is $43-$45 (depending on quanitity purchased). That's a pretty big spread. Is it the zip code? Get real Menlo Bevmo. Your cliental may be wealthy but they didn't get that way by wasting money. read more

Normally enjoy going to this store and we've bought a lot of wine, beer and spirits from here over the last two years, staff are very friendly and helpful. Having said that we recently ordered a small keg for our rehearsal dinner (week in advance) and we were called on the day of the dinner to be told that our keg hadn't been delivered, that they could get another one but that the distillery had decided not to sell the smaller ones anymore (so we'd have to pay the difference). Went to the store to have a chat with the manager but he basically said it wasn't his problem and the best he could do was take 5% of the price - so our expectations weren't met, the order was delayed which meant we had to move a lot of other stuff around in the middle of wedding planning and then we were asked to pay extra....walked out and called another store, had the keg/size I wanted to buy 30 minutes later. I'll probably go back because its local but I don't feel as though the manager at this Bevmo has a good feel for what customer service is. read more

Me and my acquaintances, all 16 and 17 years of age entered a Bevmo store in Moreno Valley, CA to purchase Leninade (non-alcoholic) and Jones Berry Lemonade Soda (also non-alcoholic), however when we attempted to purchase the non-alcoholic beverages we were denied sale because we were not of legal drinking age. However the beverages did not contain any alcohol. The cashier stated that to enter the store, one must be 21 years of age or older. In this case, the consumer should be carded upon entry to the establishment, instead of being denied sale after time was wasted searching for the Leninade and Jones Soda. Bevmo should change this policy as, for example, Target sells alcohol yet you do not have to be 21 to enter a Target store, so why should one have to be 21 to enter a Bevmo? read more

I typically wouldn't write a review on a chain business, but I just had a very frustrating experience with the Menlo Park Bev Mo. We got a keg (and tap) of Stella for our wedding reception. Well, we came to find out (at our reception) that the "expert" at Bev Mo gave us the wrong tap!!! (domestic rather than international). So, $200+ beer was was unavailable for our guests. Thank god our bartender fixed the problem. Tonight I went to return the keg and tap and get our deposit back. First of all, they were not helpful when we walked in nor did they offer to help carry it. Then I told them that they gave me the wrong and they essentially said, "it wasn't me" and were not at all apologetic! Super bummed about the crap service as it is the closest Bev Mo to me. In general stay away from Bev Mos, this place is the worse for check out counters and you never know which one to go to. And they are selling expired beer and other things. I was just there and noticed that the Bud Light still had NFL logos on the boxes well what does that tell you, it expired. The date said enjoy before 110 days, and the date was October 12, need I say more. This place does not have the best prices, if you live here go to Beltramos just up the street or even K&L. I also have bought flat Pellegrino from this place and when they have the 2 cent wine deal they are just expelling inventory of wines that no one bought last year. My advice AVOID, don't fall for the discount scams because they don't add up. Been watching this for almost a year now and its marketing hype. The selection here is pedestrian if that is who you are, you are fine here. I have the simplest of taste, I only want the best service, selection and prices, it's not at BEVMO don't be fooled. What is interesting is my German friend won't shop there because the name sounds stupid. At first I thought this was strange, but in the end he was right! Who would have known. read more

I have shopped at this location in Menlo Park many times, yes they scan your ID, not a problem, but tonight I came in with a friend of mine, I was asked for my ID, then the woman at the counter wanted to see my friends ID (she didn't bring her wallet with her), she then called the manager ''James" over and he asked her birth date, she gave it to him, he then looked at me and asked if I was purchasing the item for a minor, I said no, I'm purchasing for myself, I then said this was bullshit and he told me he would not sell the items to me. I asked for his supervisors contact information 5 or more times, he walked over to another counter and then said he was not going to give it to me. I have never been treated so badly, he was rude to me and I understand that I did say this was bullshit, I didn't say anything to the clerk or to him that was offensive or directed to them, he was not professional himself, with his tone and the questions he asked me, I gave my ID and I am 32 years old, I had the money to pay for my items what was the issue. I have been in contact with many lovely employees at this location but this evening this was a terrible experience. I will pursue contacting the higher management if the policy has changed at BevMo and they will now request ID from every person you come in the store with, then this should be displayed in the store where customers are aware of this. Would caution you AGAINST USING this branch for WEDDING. My fiancée and I live locally but are having an out of town wedding. We know people that have done the same and have had no problem doing wine tasting locally and purchasing from another Bevmo branch. They initially said that would not be a problem and set up a tasting. HOWEVER, they gave us a list of wines that would be on an upcoming 5c sale so we tasted those and made our selections. When the sale actually started these wines were NOT on sale. Instead of apologizing or trying to help us the week before the wedding, they told us that bc we were not buying wines with them, we were wasting their time and would be wasting their inventory if we tried to taste wines that were actually on the sale. Their customer service was so horrible - callous, accusatory ('you should be happy you got to taste more wines than allowed last time') - all to a bride right before her wedding! Horrible, horrible experience with incredibly rude staff. To make a mistake is one thing - it was inconvenient but it happens- but it is how one responds to it that matters. read more

I was just in BevMo this afternoon with my sister. We are both in our 30's. They asked for my sister's i.d.- she was purchasing the beer-- and then they wanted to see my i.d. as well. I was completely taken aback. In all my years of buying alcohol and even at BevMo in RWC & other locations, I have NEVER witnessed or been a part of this kind of screening. When I shop with my husband they have never ever asked for both our i.d's. I asked to speak to the manager just to get some clarity around this and he went through their policy and said there was even a sign on the front door that reads no one over 21 can ENTER the store. This was a horrible experience even though I am of age. I find it ridiculous and unnecessary. I wonder if they would card everyone who was male in line. This felt to me like profiling and then on top of that they swipe your data into a machine. I bet the whole reason they have this "policy" is to capture as much data they can from everyone who enters the store. I find it especially interesting that they will not allow anyone under 21 to enter the store but they sell non-alcoholic items. Next time I am going in to only buy some cheese and I will put up a FIT if they don't card me! Then I'll go buy my beer across the street at Safeway. read more
