Pretty large selection of beer here, but it's not the best selection out there. (For that, go to Willows Market in Menlo Park). The beer turnover here, however, is not very good. I've been here a couple times in the last several months, and I've seen mostly the same breweries and labels (maybe 10% change?). But my biggest issue with Holly Market is the cost - Their prices are the highest I've ever seen in the Bay Area. Four-packs of micro-brew pint cans run about $2 more than they are anywhere else, including Whole Foods. And if you grab a 4-pack of a double or triple IPA, you'll be paying at least $4 more than other places. I asked about this the last time I was here, and the guy said, "Higher alcohol beers are more expensive," which in general is true; but not THIS much more expensive. It seems to me they are using that as an excuse to double their already-high markup. I've actually cancelled more than one purchase here when I saw the actual charge pop-up on the register. (Note: They don't post prices for most beers). I was going to give Holly Market 3 stars, but based on the unusually-high Yelp rating...and abnormal number of 5-star reviews from newbies (We know what that means!) I really tried to work with this business but the owner refuses to order things that I know are available. Three times he's wasted my time trying to order. I show him the product. He says ok. I returned on the delivery day. Three times he lies and says he can't get it. It's not available. I went to the brewery and purchased directly and spoke with the owner. There's no reason why this business owner goes through the motions to say he'll order for you and then fail to do except some passive aggressive way to annoy people. I continued to shop here a few more times for my husbands beer tastes but there's so many other options and shops to work with. I just really resent the lying and wasting my time. read more

I have loved you guys and shown support for so long. I come in all the time. I come there tonight, Sunday, May 26th, 2024 at at 9:50PM and you close early! I was met at the door and told to leave. I only wanted 6-Doughballs....even after you increased your price per unit, I kept coming in and buying from you guys! I kept coming back because I choose to support local business, even though it's so much cheaper to buy from big name stores. I watched (6)-people walk out of the store as I attempted to walk in, only to be told the cashier closed the register for the night.....it wasn't even 10PM! So disappointing....Albert and Luna, you're super cool and I'll miss you guys.... I'm that upset. I patronized your store because you guys are normally so easygoing and are super cool and chill and I've been trying to help out the local scene. I felt like an IDIOT begging to come in, like I'm some regular that should receive special treatment, hoping I would be recognized, but I got turned away AND than I realized it wasn't even 10PM - staff closed early! We went to the San Carlos art and wine festival and we're enjoying a band that was performing. It was starting to get hot and we were starting to get thirsty and I happen to glance to my right and there was the holy market. This is just a littleplain looking market, but it is so well stocked. We got some snacks and several types of beverages, alcoholic, and non-alcoholic. The man at the counter was very pleasant and accommodating. It's a great storm. There must be a distilled water shortage. I went to 3 store and called another 2. Holly Market doesn't usually carry it but the since the water guy was there they helped me order a case for arriving the next day. They truly are just the best here. The last time I was there I was looking for cranberry juice and camomile tea. I bought the juice but they didn't carry the tea and nice man behind the register gave me a few teas from his personal stash. These folks are life savers! Just dropped in to use the ATM and grab a beverage but even in that short time I couldn't help but notice how clean and tidy the store is. Possibly the cleanest and tidiest convenience store I've ever been in. Right away I could sense that there's pride of ownership. While I was there at least 3 other regular customers came through and addressed the gentleman behind the counter by name, including a middle-schooler who rolled up on her scooter. I can tell that this is a store that is appreciated by the neighborhood. I'd go out of my way to drop in again, as it's not far from work. Even the parking lot was clean! Probably the most expensive liquor store I've ever been to. They were selling a bottle of whiskey for $140 that cost $92 normally at total wine and more. They have a big selection of craft beers, but $20-$30 for a 4 pack is just crazy. read more

This is a great little liquor store in San Carlos. It's conveniently located just down the road from the freeway and near downtown. The selection wasn't the biggest ever, but it was good. I've lived in East Carlos for almost 10 years. It's only in the last few years that I have started to swing by Holly Market on the corner of Laurel Street and Holly. It is a secret gem that I think deserves more attention and more patronage. Did you know that they offer dry cleaning services? My wife and I use them all the time and they do a great job. They have partnered with Dynasty Cleaners in order to provide such a great service at a great price. I bring in my dry cleaning to Holly Street market and while I'm there I can pick up my milk or whatever items need. Convenience. I hear they're going to partner with Nob Hill pizza and offer half-baked pizzas. When that happens, customers can come in and drop off their dry cleaning, pick up a bottle wine, AND a great pizza! This is a 30-year-old institution that has withstood the pressures of development. And they're looking to improve their offerings to include more gourmet items. If you have often driven by the store I encourage you to stop at the corner of Holly and Laurel and check it out. This is a local store that's going to partner with local vendors like Dynasty Cleaners in Nob Hill pizza in order to bring us great offerings all in one place. Best local market of all time! If you like a huge variety of great beers, wines, and liquors this place has it all. However, that's all obvious and kind of a no brained, but the real discovery here is that they do dry cleaning for almost 1/2 the price. At first I was very skeptical and worried about handing over several tailored shirts to a market place, but it turns out that the laundry operation they are running is extremely well operated. Beer! OMFG! For a hole in a wall, shithole-from-the-outside looking market this place has some amazing microbrews. Like seriously amazing - Stone Brewing, Green Flash, 21st Amendment, Lagunitas, Dogfish Head, etc. Seriously! And the prices are very reasonable. Definitely one of the better kept secrets for decent beer procurement here on the Peninsula, especially if you like IPA's as much as me. And they accept credit cards too. In a day an age where world class customer service is touted by every business around, Holly Market truly deserves the right to make that claim. But first the basics... 1) Wine and beer selection is vast while being the cheapest around 2) Ron always has great deals on wine, much cheaper than the likes of Safeway, NobHill, Molly Stones etc. 3) Absolutely ideal for last minute, go to convenience store for anything and everything - they always have the most random items I need: draino, salt and pepper, raid, cold medicine, brie cheese, you name it. 4) They even do dry cleaning, and its cheap and always on time! But the main reason I love this market is the friendly family faces I'm always greeted by and the WORLD CLASS customer service. Here are two stories that exemplify what I mean: 1) Recently, I asked Ron if they were planning on getting anymore of the seasonal Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale anytime soon, as its my wifes favorite. He told me they ended that seasonal beer, yet he reached out to all of his wholesalers just the same, found one last case, bought it, and now keeps it behind the counter just for me so I can buy them one six pack at a time. 2) My wife and baby were recently locked out of our house, without their cell phone (we live across the street). They walked to Holly Market, and Ron took care of them in every way imaginable. He lent her his cell phone to call and text, he gave them food and milk (for baby) at no cost and also went above and beyond in every other way possible to make sure they were taken care of.
