Meh. Showed up looking for a nice bottle of fizz (and said as much). Was ushered into the fizz room and assured that they'd be back in a moment. Was ignored for 5-10 minutes until I walked out. I don't know if it's correlated or coincidence, but I was coming from a day of working in the trades and looked, well, dusty. Either way, I went down the street and bought some Dom elsewhere. I've been coming to Artisan wine for over 15 years. I actually use to frequent both of their older locations located in mountain view, and also in Los Altos; across the street from Mountain View. This hands down is my favorite wine shop. Everyone in the store is super friendly and very knowledgeable about their products. However i must give compliments to James, he is a treasure trove of information. He has lead me along many journeys across different regions and always leads me to a gem. After going to Artisan wine, you will be spoiled with your selection. You will realize that your normal wine shops just dont cut it anymore. Artisan is a gold mine for amazing wines at equally amazing prices! I also find the staff to be very knowledgeable, helpful and passionate about their jobs (the perfect combo). I highly recommend attending one of their weekly tastings if you're looking to learn more about wine or just simply try a variety of incredible wines. Recently, I brought a bottle of Vintage Moet 2006 to a fancy dinner in NYC. I bought it at Artisan for just $70. It was on the restaurant's wine list for $350 and it would probably have been worth close to every penny at that price given how good it tasted. This place is amazing! They are super helpful and informative, and I love the fact that they are welcoming of all wine drinkers across the spectrum. They make time for the newbies as well as the connoisseurs. I also appreciated that you can go to the staff with your likes and dislikes, as well as a price range, and they will provide many suggestions to meet your needs. Contrary to what many have said, I actually found the random boxes of wine and in general "organized" chaotic view in the old locations (El Camino, and Evelyn) to actually be the charm of this place. It gave a very non wine snob feel, and the owners I believe are a sister and brother team who are always friendly and eager to recommend wines based on their own experience. I don't know if they still do free tastings if you hit a certain purchase tier since they have started drawing ridiculously large crowds (esp for Napa, French Bdx, and Champagne) ever since they first moved to the El Camino location, but I recall the owners have been super chill about it - that is, if you buy some bottles and ask about it usually they send you on your way with a glass. On occasions they have special pricing but you need to be on their email list. For example, the latest Nicolas Feuillatte entry level rose champagne was at least 10 to 15% cheaper than anywhere else I can find. I also used to stock up on Stags Leap Artemis there as they have the best pricing for case purchases even including Costco. Not sure if they still stock them anymore. It's one of the better wine stores in the Bay Area, with always competitive pricing and an eclectic selection. read more

I came into this place for the first time and I had a wonderful experience. I was helped right away, the staff was very knowledgable, and their selection is awesome. I also felt that their prices were fair, and their sales prices were more than fair. I think this is a great place when you want to try something new. Also, two little pro-tips for this place: 1. If you are having an event, they give discounts when you buy in bulk. So ladies (or gentlemen), if you are having your wedding and would like champagne for toasts and whatnot, this is a great option. 2. They do wine tastings which I found really fun. Artisan Wine Depot is this crazy little wine (and spirits) store with too many bottles in the space. The people are really incredibly helpful. I've gone in asking to match wine to food at a particular price point (both low, for large parties, and high, for fancier dinners), and they're great at that. I've had people there tell me, well, I'd serve this wine over that wine. They totally geek out about favorites of mine, like single vintage champagne. And they remember - ie, last time I was in, they told me my favorite champagne was out of stock but the had recommendations for what else I could get. They have tastings on a regular basis. There is sometimes a charge, which can be applied towards a purchase. It's a great way to learn about wines. read more

My local wine shop! I feel so lucky that this place is only a couple minutes from my place and has such a wide selection of wine and even some spirits. It's always a pleasure to stop by because everyone is so friendly and chill. The employees are super helpful in providing suggestions, and I really like how they have a large variety of half bottles if you just want to try something. Their prices are fair and competitive. It is incredibly convenient to purchase wine on their website and pick it up at the store. I love to bring wine/champagne as a party gift, and I know I'll always get something good here. It's somewhat of an adventure to browse their large selection since there is just wine EVERYWHERE. Hidden treasures await at every box. I like that they have print-outs with reviews on certain wines, but sometimes you can't find that particular one. It doesn't really matter though because you'll always walk away with something wonderful! Lately I've been lucky to have been invited to complimentary wine tastings for my previous wine purchases. Best wine store, on par with K&L. Every time I go in, I say, I'm looking for X, at $Y per bottle, for Z occassion, and they knock it out of the park. One time I was choosing a wine to bring to a friend's parent's for dinner, and they are super into Italian wines, and I let him know that the friend is in wine sales for a certain company, and he went out of his way to pick a wine that was not in her sales catalog, because he just knew her catalog. I used to go to the old location on VIlla back in the day. When they moved I kind of lost touch. Recently I was eating nearby so I dropped in. Man the inventory is almost claustrophobic. I walked into one of the rooms with the late harvest wines. Chateau Rieussec, Royal Tokaji and some other goodies. However I kept myself in control and raided the beers instead. This place is awesome! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. As mentioned in other reviews, they're very nice and it never feels pretentious. Two things great about their selection: 1) They have interesting, seasonal things - e.g. the front of the store is loaded with interesting sparkling rose today (in the summer). Not just the cheap $10 bottles like at safeway either. 2) They have a great selection of standards (e.g. the big Napa cabs you can find anywhere), but more importantly they have a ton of wines with high RP and WE rankings all over the store with prices. Most wine stores focus on getting you to buy expensive stuff - Artisan Wine Depot makes sure you can get excellent wine at a reasonable price. I'm sure if you wanted you could talk for hours on end about what wine you are looking for and why, and they can help. They also have a lot of new and upcoming wines, and they have a bit of a nice older vintage selection too from time to time. They are not stuffy or arrogant, and they are clearly in the business because they love wine. I especially like the various tastings they do, and they do a great job hosting them. I rarely write reviews, but great service demands it. I popped in here yesterday after work to grab a couple of nice bottles as a team going away gift for our manager's departure. The woman who helped me didn't just immediately steer me to a bottle, but she asked me a couple of thoughtful questions and helped me find two bottles that met our budget perfectly and will surely delight our departing boss. I ended up picking up another bottle as a housewarming gift for a friend + one for me that she had open and let me taste. Who knew New Zealand sauvignon blanc could be transformative? This this is another little wine shop in Mountain View. They have a decent selection from all over, from French Wine to your standard domestics. Prices are competitive to other wine shops, but selection is limited, although good for a store of this size. That said, it is fairly cramped with pretty poor signage. I don't have claustrophobia, but this place does make me feel like I almost do. At times, it almost feels like Artisan Wine Depot is trying to compete with the bigger stores like Bevmo, K&L or Beltramo's in terms of variety, but can't do it in a adequate fashion due to much more limited space. I personally prefer Beltramo's or K&L down the highway due to their better organization and more open feel. That said, people here are friendly, so Customer Service isn't really lacking. They may want to rent a warehouse or some storage space somewhere, as that would allow them to offer an increased selection and allow them to greatly improve their organization. read more

Their inventory is Very good, but most of all come there for their expertise and wine selection, especially when I want to try something different or getting a gift for a friend from a variety that I am unfamiliar with . Guess I could go to Costco and grab some $50. wine, but not sure if that is any good (no one there to provide any guidance or alternative selection), and with Artisan know that they could provide a better wine recommendation at the same price.
