But I didnt see any flights. While the service was fine, I did sort catch them lounging around in on the couches on their phones while on shift. I get its slow but its just not a good look. The location is right at the end of a street so there are constantly cars making u turns and coming in and out of parking. So sitting outside isnt terribly ambient. We stopped by before turning in, ordering the Fromage du Jour (a selection of domestic and imported cheeses), a Charcuterie plate (with thinly-sliced cured meats, pate de chevreuil, stoneground mustard, cornichon, and purple cabbage kraut), and the Marinated Olives. We were hankering for some food and this place didn't really have things we wanted (fair, it IS a wine place after all!) Was in the area so decided to swing by Wine Room. It was pretty crowded but we were able to grab a bench and side table in the back. Receipt labeled as "baby table" haha. Wines range from $17-$25 a glass. Staff can be a bit difficult to wave down during peak times. Front is more modern, whereas the back room is a bit more dated and cozy. Parking can be tough. Such a cozy intimate spot! I came here after work with a group of 6. Although we had no reservation, we were quickly sat in the sofa area near the fireplace. Our server was great and kept checking in on us as we finished our food and drinks. Our favorite wine was the risling. It had a great flavor profile, it wasn't too dry, nor too sweet and was quite refreshing. For food we got the spicy italian panino, a burrata dish and a prosciutto dish. We ended up loving all the dishes, but my favorite by far was the panino. We ended up placing two additional orders of the panino. I've been a regular at Haberdasher in downtown SJ because I appreciate a classy ambiance with a historic 1920s speakeasy twist, so when I say that The Wine Room is a sophisticated elevation of that, take note. I would say it feels like a tavern for wealthy noblemen in 1800s England. Allow me to say where it fell short for me, and then I'll sing my praises. The wine... tasted like wine. I don't have a particularly refined palate when it comes to that. The charcuterie board was a collection of expensive items that I am personally not into: miniature pickles (too sour), meat pâté (bland), and what I think were pickled red peppers. There was no cheese, which was highly disappointing; however, if that style of charcuterie suits you, go for it. The music did not match the ambiance at all. They really should play piano or smooth jazz, because the 2010s pop was honestly annoying. DESPITE ALL OF THIS, the crowd was the real pull. Everyone was either on a first date or was an interesting adult. This makes for fun people-watching and stimulating conversations. People were very willing to walk up and talk to strangers. I saw many people doing so, I felt welcome to do so, and people approached me to converse. We walked to the bar but caught someone serving food. He was super helpful and picked a nice bottle for us and helped us order some appetizers. The French Chardonnay was super yummy. Crisp and refreshing. Strong apple notes. It went well with the cheese platter we got. It is a very small place and completely understaffed. So do take that into consideration. Tried it out on a Sunday night, will not come again. The amount of wine in our glasses was so tiny, it was more like samples. (for $20 each) The amount of cheese on the cheese plate was tiny, too. The bread that came with the cheese plate was cold, right out of a fridge, 2 slices of Acme walnut bread and 1 slice of regular supermarket white bread. That's the best they can do? A tip to the restaurant: either do big pours and small cheese plates, so that people order some other food, or small pours and large cheese plates, so that people order a second glass of wine. I've been coming here for almost 10yrs and the customer service here gets worse every time. I met up with a friend here last night and I practically had to beg for water after trying to find parking and walking in the cold for 15mins. It's always a bad sign when you have to ask for water at a bar or restaurant but even after I asked the server made a point to deliver someone else's order and then start fixing the fire place next to where I was seated after asking for water. So I asked for water again thinking maybe he accidentally forgot but he said no I heard you but you need to wait. At that point I was ready to go somewhere else but the vibes were good and we were now on our 2nd rounds of wine. The service here is really bad and it's all because of the staff, maybe they think because they have been here so long they can treat people rudely but I would recommend the owner train them on proper customer service or hire new people eager to work. We paid $125 for 4 drinks and was willing to stay and buy more but with the poor service we left and went somewhere else. read more

The Wine Room was my pick! Ambiance: So cozy as usual, nestled with students, cute dates, and professional people in every corner sipping some of the amazing wines. We opted to go and sit in the inside library, the place which is perfect for hosting small friends and family get-togethers, and corporate socials, and have been invited as a premier guest for a top financial corporate San Francisco company. Wines: One of the solid wine lists that you can expect, starting from Napa Valley to European collections. This time, the Executive insisted on ordering a full bottle of red. I kept strong to a glass of my favorite Rose bubbles from Reims, France . So delicious, creamy, tastes of strawberry- just mind-blowing and transporting me back to Champagne, France. I chose a fine delicate pour of Pinot Noir from France for my host after tasting the Pinot.. I was surprised by the quality and the flavor profile by the French Pinot- I wish I could have some, with some bites. Apparently, my host wasted quite much of the Pinot, which he thought the wine was bad. 100 percent not! I calmly asked my host to leave it when he asked me to drink it up, leaving to uncomfortable silence. They have changing menus so best to go there and check out what they are offering!
