This is actually an eye-glass store and the so-called doctor is not professional at all.

Decided to give it a try because everyone has different experiences. Overall, I would say that my family had a great experience with our eye exams, very thorough and efficient. I would rate the doctor as 5 star. The front desk people are not great and maybe I just also had bad luck with them. Our first time as a family here and found that I had to make call multiple times to get a call back, they do not respond to text message (though they direct you to use text) and seemed unfamiliar with insurance/unwilling to figure it out. Therefore, it was fine overall - we got what we needed in the end, but will probably would not go back.

Avoid this Optometrist. Dr. Kim-Eye Institute of Reston…read more I had an extremely frustrating experience with Dr. Kim at Eye Institute of Reston, VA, and would not recommend them to anyone looking for quality eye care. From the start, my eye exam felt rushed. When I struggled to see the letters clearly, the doctor switched to shapes instead of taking the time to ensure an accurate prescription. After the exam, she had me try on the prescribed contact lenses, but I couldn't see well with them. Instead of adjusting the prescription, she decided to keep it the same as what I walked in with. Another challenge was the eye machine used for the exam--it kept fogging up, and the doctor repeatedly wiped it off with a cloth. This happened during both of my visits. I asked about it the second time, and she told me to try breathing through my nose. I also inquired as to whether warm temperature in the office could be causing the fogging, and she responded, "I guess." The equipment looked more like a temporary plastic station rather than high-tech machinery, and I've never had this issue at other optometrist offices. When I picked up my glasses, I immediately noticed something was off, almost like a smudge. I voiced my concerns, but was advised to try them for a couple of weeks. After struggling with them, I returned for another exam, but the doctor still couldn't get my prescription right. At that point, she mentioned cataracts, which had never been brought up before, and referred me to a specialist. When I asked to return the glasses since I couldn't see properly, I was told they have a no-return policy, even though they failed to provide me with functional eyewear. I left messages requesting a resolution, but no one ever called me back. I spent a significant amount of money on glasses that I cannot use, and the lack of professionalism and care at this office is unacceptable. If you value your vision and customer service, I strongly recommend going elsewhere.

This place is awful. My wife is a customer here (or WAS) and recommended I make an appointment for…read moreone of our younger kids who wants to make the leap to contact lenses. The first sketchy element is that the link my wife kept sending me kept taking me to a google search with an alternate name. It appears that they do business under two different names which is kind of shady. But the big problem is that when you try to schedule an appointment on their website, it asks you to choose three different times. This is really bad because in this area many people have jobs and families and you can't just bank on some random time MAYBE being available. So I tried to call in the morning and nobody answered. I tried to call again in the afternoon after I made the appointment and again nobody answered. This was for an appointment the next day. I got two auto-texts saying "sorry we missed your call" so I replied to the texts saying I have a job and four kids and I can't be left hanging on these appointments, and this is a bad first impression after my wife recommended this place. I get a call back FIVE minutes after that text from a someone sounding like a sorority chick who just got dumped by her boyfriend. Huge attitude immediately. She's like "Those are just APPOINTMENT REQUESTS, SIR! We have ONE appointment at 7:45am tomorrow." Okay, well the appointments I thought I signed up for were 2:15, 2:30, and 2:45. So I calmly asked why the website listed 12 appointments for tomorrow and 18 for the next day if none of those were really available. And she just kept replying to everything I said by getting increasingly loud and obnoxious so I finally said, "well I guess I will go to another practice then," and before I could even say thanks and bye, she hung up on me. After this conversation, a lot of stuff is even weirder as I think about it. If the appointments are "just requests," then why were there "no requests" listed today, "12 requests" tomorrow, and "18 requests" the next day? That's totally nonsensical because if nothing is guaranteed then why list ANY times that are definitely not available??? And if you're going to list some times, why not list them all? Still the worst is just the rudeness. If your instant response to someone texting that you made a bad first impression but TRYING TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION BY SETTING A FIRM APPOINTMENT is to call them back in a haughty tone, then perhaps you should not be employed in customer service. Or, maybe the front desk person was out today and I was called by a doctor. But that just makes things even worse. Anyway, imagine potentially gaining 5 new customers (the rest of my family) and instead losing one (my wife) with just one phone call! Amazing. Anyway btw I got an appointment at MyEyeDr in the Boro same day today and they were actually nice...

If I didn't pay for it, "...then we might have to dilate your eyes..." to continue the exam. I didn't appreciate the implication that I "might" require my eyes to be dilated...but that if I paid an extra $39 then I wouldn't. Doubt I'll be going back there. And it's unfortunate because I've been going there for years without this exam. Anything to make more money I guess.

I am someone who is almost never late, but I drove 45 minutes to this appointment, then…read moreunexpectedly had to spend 15 minutes parking (because the parking situation is awful), which made me 10 minutes late. I called from my car, intending to explain that I was there but having trouble parking, but no one answered their phone. When I walked in, I immediately apologized, explaining that parking had taken a lot longer than I'd anticipated, but Dr. Hartzell told me that new patient exams take an hour and so she didn't know if she could see me. (Note that she says in response to another review here that she allows a 10-minute grace period for all appointments, and I had walked in exactly 10 minutes late.) I said OK and left, and she followed me out in the hall and said she wasn't saying she wouldn't see me, but it would mean that the appointments after me would start late too. OK, well, what am I supposed to say to that? Either see me or don't see me, but don't chastise me and expect me to feel good about staying at that point. So at that point I just continued to leave, because I didn't want to see a doctor who started off a relationship that way. Medical care is a very personal thing, and I don't think most people would feel comfortable putting themselves in a vulnerable situation with a doctor who takes that manner with people. If you read other reviews here, you'll see people with similar complaints about her manner. If nothing else, they should warn people when they make appointments that they will need to allow 15 minutes for parking; generally people won't expect it would take that long. Edited to add: See the doctor's response to my review, which is absurd -- "It is always a good idea to plan time for parking and walking from your vehicle to the medical building" is incredibly condescending. Obviously responsible adults plan for parking and getting to the building! But people don't assume they'll need 15+ minutes for parking unless they're warned about that in advance (which this office doesn't do -- and why don't they, when multiple people have suggested it?). I agree with other reviewers who found her rude and condescending. Strongly recommend avoiding.
