Fairfax location is nicer. They'll offer quicker service, working A/C, and more inventory, kiosks and parking.

The room would argue about it for years afterward--whispers in corridors, quiet bets placed over drinks, elders insisting they remembered a detail others swore never happened. But in the moment itself, there was no order. Only urgency. Only pressure. Only a body reaching the edge of what it could hold. Hagrechaun did not announce the birth with thunder. There was no omen in the sky, no tremor in the streets, no bell rung by those who claimed to know when history shifted. The city did what it always did when something important happened: it continued breathing, unaware that its rhythm was about to change. Inside the room, time slowed. Not stopped--slowed. Like a held breath that refuses to release. The woman lay on the narrow bed, sweat cooling too quickly against her skin. Her hands clenched and unclenched, searching for something solid in a world that had begun to blur at the edges. She had known this moment was coming. Known it in the way bodies sometimes know truths before language can catch up. Her body had tried to decide. It failed. The pain came in waves, but pain was not what made her scream. Pain was familiar. Pain could be endured. What tore the sound from her chest was the knowing--the sudden, unavoidable clarity that there was no clean outcome here. No correct choice. No version where everything survived untouched. Two heartbeats. One body. The room smelled of iron and warm cloth and fear carefully disguised as professionalism. The midwives moved with practiced efficiency, but their eyes kept flicking toward one another, measuring, calculating. Their hands hesitated a fraction of a second too long. That hesitation mattered. Styles P stood to the left of the bed, arms crossed, posture loose but alert. He had been silent for most of the labor, watching more than speaking, listening not to the words exchanged but to the spaces between them. Silence was where truth hid when people were trying too hard to sound certain. His eyes moved from the woman's face to the hands at her stomach, to the way one midwife's jaw tightened every time the monitor stuttered. He read the room the way some people read maps--noticing where the lines bent, where the margins thinned. On the other side stood 40 Fold. He was calmer than anyone had a right to be. Breathing slow. Hands steady. Already organizing the chaos into steps, into sequences. If this, then that. If not this, then something else. He believed--had always believed--that survival came from order, not instinct. That panic was just a failure of preparation. He watched the same room Styles P watched and saw something different. Where Styles saw risk, 40 Fold saw process. Where Styles listened for what wasn't being said, 40 Fold focused on what could still be done. Between them, the woman cried out again. Not louder this time. Lower. Strained. The sound scraped something raw in both men, though neither showed it. "They're coming together," one of the midwives said, voice tight. "They're tangled." Styles P uncrossed his arms. Just a shift. Barely noticeable. But it was the first movement he'd made in minutes. "How long?" he asked. The midwife didn't answer right away. 40 Fold stepped closer to the bed, eyes on the readouts, mind already rearranging possibilities. "You separate them," he said evenly. "You prioritize oxygen. You keep pressure steady." The woman's eyes fluttered open. For a moment, her gaze was sharp, piercing through the haze. She looked not at the midwives, not at the ceiling, but directly at the two men standing on either side of her. She smiled. It wasn't joy. It wasn't relief. It was recognition. "She knows," Styles P said quietly. 40 Fold glanced at him. "Knows what?" "That there ain't a right answer." The midwives exchanged another look--this one unmistakably fearful. The rules of birth were breaking down. Procedures assumed one life at a time, one path forward. The room was not built for this kind of decision. And decisions, when delayed too long, become verdicts. The woman's breathing hitched. "If no one moves," a midwife said, barely above a whisper, "we lose one." Or both, the silence finished. Styles P stepped forward. Not rushing. Not grabbing. Claiming. "He needs awareness," he said, nodding toward the child closest to his side, though neither child had fully emerged yet. "The world he's walking into don't come straight. It lies. It doubles
